The pale walkers of Lord Gon'orr'hoeae by Slaaneshchild - Introduction Post -

Hi all !

So here it comes... the seventh OWAC !

Time to complete my never ending Slaanesh army... Wait you said seventh ??

SEVEN !! The sacred number of the Father of Plagues.

It is more than a sign ! I HAD TO paint my nurglate miniatures this year. So this time, your favorite Grim Reaper of the OWAC will exchange pink painting and leather gloves for pale putrid flesh and rotten scars.

The army in all its beauty :

I have always been fascinated by Adrian Smith's artworks in Realm of Chaos especially what he did for Nurgle. I love this illustration and I want to reproduce the same "mood". Tons of plague flaggellants, escorted my daemons, led by a lord on palanquin and a Great unclean one.

Maybe also a great unclean one on palaquin because I love the idea of palanquin with tons of nurglings rampaging everywhere and everything.

Here are the miniatures to paint :

42 plague bearers: I might use some of them as masters of plagues (riding beast of nurgle) because I think I have too many of them

I also have 3 plague toads and 3 metal beast of nurgle :

7 knights of Nurgle and 14 pestigors, they will be led by Knightmare miniature's champion of nurgle

Classic GUO and his little brother

Tons of nurglings...

A lord on palanquin...

I also have 28 frostgrave cultists, still on sprue, actual warriors of nurgle that I will use for bitz I think or maybe plague ogres and I plan to make a conversion for Valnir the Reaper, a special character from the 5th edition.

No chaos warriors planned because I have tons of them in my Slaanesh army and I want something fresh and new. Infantry will be plaguebearers and cultists.

I hope you will like them, can't wait to paint them !

My offering is a cultist of the red redemption as I am planning to sand them to use them in this army (I used them, long time ago with WordBearers)

Cheers !! Drink the cup of plagues down in one darling !!

Jaakko and Slargash - Wrap-up

Jaakko and Slargash! What is best in life?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you

and to hear the lamentations of the opposing player.

The rollercoaster ride they call Old World Army Challenge is finally coming to a halt. I really didn't realise what I was getting into, but I'm really glad I did take part. Staying on a project consistently has not always been my strong suite (I used to struggle finishing a single team, gang or a warband), but luckily I have found out that being accountable to someone does the trick. There were some difficult times during the spring but you (yes, you reading this) and the OWAC community kept me pushing forward.

And so my childhood dream army managed to materialise from the lead pile:

Slargash and the Mad Spell twins

Chaos warriors including Helwud and a full command strenghtened by the army standard. The unit standard bearer is actually a conversion I made from a Warhammer 40k fan sculpt (#dressawilly by the Still Tower).

Marauders - I painted two more and did a partial repaint on some old models (not shown in the picture) and the unit size will set into 16 models.

I painted two more ranks to this unit this month to make it 20 thugs. I still have a handful of them and might paint another unit or bulk this one at some point.

Chaos hounds must be my favourite thing on the list. I kept hunting for more models during the challenge and there's further eight in the post while writing this post.

Minotaurs - In reality Lord Duherst and Ox-Roar are used as character models and they both have a small unit to accompany them.

Cavalry - The thug horse are now lead by Jaek and are in desperate need of more models. I hope to bulk this unit at some point. In the initial pledge I also had a unit of 5 marauder horse with hand weapons and 10 marauder horse with spears. I was inspired more by other models in the end of the challenge and most of them are still untouched. I painted some to show you the style I will paint them to, however:

I was not supposed to have any trolls. I ran into the marsh troll model that is featured in the chaos army list in Warhammer Armies and here we are. I have a definite soft spot for the art in that book and I'm weak. (Grog Stuntycrusher was presented in April, but he was actually finished during May.)

The war altar accompanied by three cultists. The secret powergamer in me is really glad I painted this one.

The rest - a chaotic host, mercenary giants, blood-greed tokens and a small daemon to be summoned.

Army list according to WHFB 3 ed (not counting miniatures painted after the previous post):

- Slargash the Defiler, lvl 20 sorcerer: 240 pts

- Quel'lequeck Mad Spell x2, lvl 10 sorcerers: 170 pts

- Chaos warriors x 18, full command + chaos champion + army standard: 1679 pts + banner

- Chaos marauders x11, standard: 468 pts

- Chaos thugs x11, full command + marauder leader: 143 pts

- Chaos hounds x18, handler x3: 459 pts

- Minotaur x9: 360 pts

- Thug horse x6, full command + chaos champion on a chaos steed: 285 pts

- Troll x4 + discipline master: 330 pts

- Chaos war altar x1, cultist altar guard x3: 90 pts

- Jabberwock: 200 pts

- Hydra: 200 pts

- Gorgon: 110 pts

- Giant x3: 750 pts

- Daemon: 0 pts

- Blood-greed tokens: 0 pts

Total: 5484 pts, 101 models (adjusted model count: 127 models)

Some of the shields. I had the idea that followers of chaos paint their own shields and so ended up with a lot of variation. The thugs have generally more simple and crude shields and warriors (touched by chaos) are more into art (and I can blame the thugs for poor results!). Marauders have metal shields with verdigris. A few of these are from this month.

Seems that my gnomes have some avenging to do

What next? I hope that the future will include more OWACs. The plan is to finish this army in the following months and, if I have the opportunity, I would definitely enter with something else. I have an all old citadel squat army gathering dust and painting it next has been in my mind. However, after painting the orc banner for my marauders I have been toying with the idea of collecting an orc horde. On the other hand, Bretonnia would also be cool - or maybe halflings. I think we will just have to wait and see!

My eternal gratitude belongs to our Benevolent Overlord Iannick and moderator Byron who made this happen! Without the challenge Slargash would definitely still be gathering dust in his bare undercoats.

Congratulations to all participants! It has been a pleasure to follow your projects grow.

Bondage and wrap-up with Slaaneshchild - Wrap up post !!

So here it comes, the final bondage, the cherry on the cake, the wrap-up post !

As complained, I (really) tried to make some nice banners as I am supposed to be not so bad at drawing, but it was a huge fail. Not really about the drawing in itself, but the paper I used was to hard, the painting was ugly too, and the banners were really too big compared to the miniatures.

So unfortunately, I cancelled this "project" and decided to make my wrap-up pictures with the help of my girlfriend.

I am pretty happy with the result, it seems so much in less than six months ! And the terrains were painted in the same time, I surprise myself :D

The horde is so big it was hard to capture in one picture,  but of course I made detailed pictures too.

Behold my mignons !!!

Speaking of army list and points :

2 daemon Princes : 555 pts

1 princess on palanquin : 160 pts

23 dark elves witches : 276 pts

6 chaos knights : 480 pts

6 centaurs (marauders horsemen) : 198 pts

18 chaos marauders with additionnal weapon : 234 pts

12 dark elf scouts : 156 pts

4 dark elf assassins : 224 pts

1 heroïne on war hydra : 357 pts

1 heroïne on cold one : 142 pts

3 chaos trolls : 135 pts

3 dragon ogres : 264 pts

12 mounted daemonettes : 720 pts

6 fiends of slaanesh : 180 pts

12 bestigors : 192 pts

for a grand total of..... 4273 pts !

Plus trees, temples, hills etc....

More pictures !!

Beware the attack of the dachshund of Slaanesh

True Evil Wrap-Up Posture

Princess on Palanquin and followers

And... As this project is the same army I started in OWAC IV, I decided to picture as well "the complete army", with the miniatures from OWAC IV (yeah I am very jealous of Mariano so I try to do the same !)

Remember this horror ? MOUahahaha

Legionnaires on Slaanesh steeds

chaos warriors and beastmen

the mighty Kegoxx

the altar of flesh

My precious !!

I hope you like them !! Next year, I am struggling with different projects:

- continuing this one (I have tons of miniatures to paint)
- painting a Nurgle army (they are waiting in my boxes)
- painting a renegade imperial guard dedicated to Slaanesh (but I think I will paint them this year this semester)
- building a renegade for of random miniatures for Warhammer. Like one sorcerer with skeletons, some goblins, some humans... could be fun too !

Cheers !!

Slaaneshchild.

Jaakko and Slargash - Rank & File #3

Slargash's worst fears seemed to have come true - all work had ground to a halt. The almost maniacal flurry of miniatures walzing through the painting area was only a distant memory. No pot had been opened, not a drop of paint had been applied for weeks and Slargash felt panic creeping into his cold leaden heart. "Hide those horses", he snapped to the Mad Spell twins. "We are not taking chances - I'm not going to tolerate another year in my bare undercoats!"

It has been a tough month. I assumed it would have been smooth sailing coming from February, but it was not going to be the case. I was quite exhausted from the first two months and needed a short break from the challenge. That's all nice, but when you find yourself going through a few epidemic illnessess and add a work trip to the mix you surely sense trouble. I had to really force it and burn some midnight oil but managed to paint the bare minimum to avoid using the wild card month. Now I feel in my guts why they call this a challenge.

This month in points:

- 10 marauders:  390 points

Total so far 1639 points, 53 models

Next month I will try to finish the final compulsory Rank & File month consisting mainly of chaos warriors. Hopefully this will also include my army banner and some surprises. Wish me luck!

PaulM's - OWACIV Chaos Wrap-Up (1215pts)

OWAC IV - Wrap up

Like Eisenhorn, I don't know how to smile

Hello youse.

I finished it...sort of. I must admit that though I enjoyed the community aspect, I found this year's challenge somewhat of a struggle. Mainly, I think, because I fell out of love with the army about half way through. Regardless, I'm rather pleased with my little force (army is too generous a term). Even If I do have my own personal Field of bones in the form of 5 knights, a Jabberwock and a Beastman Bray-Shaman that never saw paint, which has also meant that my duel purpose army (3rd and 6th) is only legal in one of those editions due to my laziness!

Still, not to be deterred I've started amassing a small selection of GW, Harlequin and Grenadier Wood Elves for next year, because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. Though maybe I'll actually do all the cleaning up, basing, undercoating and such before the challenge starts; like a certain Canuck Overlord suggested previously. Might avoid a lot of frustration...

My final army list is as below (with pictures):

Kagan the Hollow (Chaos Champion)                125pts

The Hollow Lords (14 Chaos Marauders)            546pts

Frak'gor Brakentusk (Lvl 10 Beastman Hero)    110pts

The Wormsore (Beastmen)                                     190pts

Korrag's Kompany (3 mercenary ogres)                114pts

The Retch Twins (2 trolls)                                        130pts

Grand Total:                                                         1215pts (or about 800ish in 6th)

Congrats to all my OWAC IV compadres, commiserations to those that found themselves amongst the bones. Onwards to next year! (maybe)
