Skål's wrap up post "Release the Chaos"

Another OWAC in the books. This one was pretty awesome. I feel like I painted up quite a few of the units I have really been wanting to paint for a really long time. I will be using these units for games of 2nd as well as 3rd edition 40k. While I feel like I have accomplished quite a bit, I have only put a small dent in the pile of Chaos I want to get done. With that, the shirt is a hint at what I will be working on next OWAC as I feel like I need to do part two of my Chaos Forces.

Yesterday, I had a package arrive, and much to my surprise, it was a lovely painted miniature from Bill. Thank you very much dude, he will be added to my Dwarf army as a "taller" dwarf.

Of course, I had to do one more red light photo and I really wanted a photo of the big guy amongst his crew.

These Bloodletters will be a big part of next year's Chaos forces. I may have to paint another 10 just in case.

I think you get a true measure of the size of the Nurgle Chaos Lord when he is standing among his followers. He is going to be an awesome sight on the table and a force to be reckoned with.

I was so happy that this tribute to my Maryland gaming crew came out. I had envisioned them. It was awesome that my buddies chose the Renegade that they wanted to represent them on the field of battle.

These classic Nurgle Marines were so awesome to paint and I think I am going to have to paint a few more units of them to have the Nurgle tide roll over all who oppose them.

To all of the challengers that completed this grand OWAC, congratulations, to those that have fallen I raise my horn to you Skål.

Khârn the Betrayer will rise next OWAC.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Khorne is with me. (From my shirt in the photo).

Nurgle Chaos Lord (Skål's Leader month)

This month was a hectic one, to say the least. I ended up getting moved from Alabama to South Carolina (can I get a "hell yeah"). So the ability to get anything painted quickly came to an end only a few days into the month. Luckily for me, I had the perfect model to paint up. I'm not sure who produced this resin model but I remember picking it up at my LGS back in the 90's when I was getting into Chaos marines. A quick painting session using the airbrush and some sweet Blood for the Blood God technical paint, a dab of fluorescent green on the drip for a pop of color and I was done.

Till next month

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Wildcard month! (724 pts) Tarkus!

Bet you weren't expecting a scratchbuilt baneblade this month!  Actually, this has been sitting around unpainted and in need of repair for decades. It is from the Baneblade pattern in that old White Dwarf.  I originally built it as a salvage vehicle/stage for my harlequins in 2nd edition, but the game went to 3rd before I could finish. Here are a couple mandatory progress pics of it after I repaired and primed it, first white then blue.

Since I won't play any Emperor loving troops, because he's a sexist dick,  there it sat.  Until I picked it up & dusted it off for my Rainbow Warriors. I decided to be somewhat faithful to my Harlequins, so the Tarkus paint job,  if I can ever use it as Harlequin salvage it will still fit!   And this falls under allied forces for the Rainbow Warriors, the Baneblade Tarkus!  And of course the turrets are fully mobile.

The Tarkus on one side is from the official alternate art used in the original ad copy BTW.  The other is from the Gatefold album cover.   I actually wanted to put more scenes from Tarkus on this and originally did, but it looked busy and muddy, so I did armor and rainbows instead.  I ended up painting that top turret 3 times, LOL!  I painted 2 different versions of Eruption, which is just too dark, so more rainbows!.

Also this month I did the last terminator I need for that Space Hulk list, Spitfire with a flamer, and a chainfist companion Purple Dart to fill out another squad for my 12 squad challenge.  Next month I will go down the actual list and show the finished terminators!   I actually have everything for the series of Space Hulk games now, and a few more besides!

Baneblade 634 pts  Tarkus with Party Cannon!
2 terminators  42 pts each    84 pts
flamer 6 pts

total 724pts

Also, a great sendoff for Pride Month, going out in style!

Lissanne's Rainbow Warriors- Three is the Magic Number (200 pts) Leader month

This month, I decided to do my command figures, in order to get some sort of buffer back.  THEN I got a great opportunity to have a solo gallery show in a widely seen gallery.  The condition being it is open when I sit there.  Fortunately, despite a heavy workload, my plans didn't completely fall apart.  And as there can't be really extravagant basing either, since these are for Space Hulk, that helped too.

In my initial blog post, I pointed out I am working from a very specific list of terminators for a series of Space Hulk games.  In the list, there are 2 different command figures, a Librarian and a Chaplain., These figures don't pair to make a command squad in 3rd, but I decided to do them both in my command month. In addition, I decided to do a (non-list) Hero, Rainbow Dash.  Gotta have Rainbow Dash!

Years ago, dissatisfied with the tiny terminators,  I sculpted my own body for my Khorne terminators.  Terminators were supposed to be midway between Marines and Dreadnoughts, and the wearer sits inside them.  So large.   I used doggie juggernaut heads for Khorne, and they look wonderful and scary. So scary, that when I fielded them, even the Space Wolves found something else to do on the far side of the board.  Ah well...

But I have a few bodies I cast still laying about. So, proud hero Rainbow Dash.  I had a spare pair of Exarch wings I bought off the bits man many moons ago, perfect for this!  Add a unicorn head, and a bolter I cast from an unreleased metal giant bolter I got from GW, & here is my scratchbuilt offering of the month.

More Rainbow Dash

The chaplain and the librarian are conversions so they have sister heads and weapons proper to that aforementioned Space Hulk list.  Also, I was given a bunch of weird paints for Xmas, one was called Mirror Black. So I decided to try for a mirror black chaplain.  I like to use my presents!
So,Aspect of Luna unicorn of Death-Chaplain Midnight Strike.

As for Mirror Black, read shiny shiny black.  And stinky.---meaning I turned out to be allergic to the paint.  So it took more time than I would have liked.  It looks nice, but I won't be using that paint again.

Lastly, Aspect of Celestia unicorn of Life-Librarian Dawn Wings.  I had decided to do this one in a NMchrome last year, as I have done 2d chrome many a time and wanted the practice on 3d objects.

Well, I should have looked more closely at the figure, as not only is it heavily converted to fit my army list, but less than half of the fig is armor, and a lot of that is in shadow.  Still, I like the way it came out.

So....
Rainbow Dash hero
Chaplain Midnight Strike
Librarian Dawn Wings

Since they are individual command figures rather than a command squad, I'll just take the 200 pts for leader month and call it done.

Not sure if I will do my 4th Rank and File or Wild Card extravagance next month.  I have 3 terminators already done for R&F, but the rest of April is busy.  We will see.

Darkness Falls (Skals Eldar Troop month 526 points)

Rank & File #3

Chaos, darkness, confusion, loss of time, mad rush the last three days. No I'm not talking about the Grim Dark I am referring to the craziness that was March. I built and painted 20 Pirate Dark Eldar in two days. Yep two days. I have to say it was like opening a time machine when I dove into the Dark Eldar army box. It was pretty awesome, I had some great music playing and I was simply focused on building and cleaning the Dark Eldar. I had already worked out my paint scheme so that was the easy part once I sat down to paint.

While picking up models for this army last year I stumbled across a lot of Dark Eldar Raiders and Ravagers. While they were already built and painted the price seemed to be worth the effort. Below you can see a before and after the new paint job. I was pretty happy with the way the Raider turned out and it fit the feel I was going for (you may see a few more over the next few months)

The color scheme for the Eldar "Pirates" was an easy decision for me. I always remember the Cabal of the Black Heart. That striking black armor with that high contrast green edge highlighting was always the scheme I wanted to do if I ever did Dark Eldar.

The last addition to my force this week was a Harlequin Solitaire. The stories of how these lone Harlequin roam the universe living amongst other races was something I always wanted to see. So I figured why not have this one join the raiding party of these pirate Eldar.

Points wise for this month we will call the two units of Pirates and two Pirate Captains 188 points
The Raider will count as a Falcon at 198 points
The Solitaire will clock in at a base of 140 points

Total for this month 21 troops and one tank for a total of 526 points
Till next time
