Nathan’s leader month plus a few friends (395 points)

Ah the finish line is in sight. This month I did my army leader and finished off the rest of the witch elves. A pretty meagre haul to be honest so in June I’m going to paint up the remaining cold one cavalry plus my cold one chariot. Anyway here is the points value of my May figures:

- 1 Witherwitch (Level 20 wizard) on cold one with hand weapon - 325 points

- 5 witch elves with light armor with two hand weapons and poisoned attacks - 70 points

Here they are:

Nathan’s last rank and file month (260 points)

Well as the post says it is my last rank and file month. I nearly took a mulligan as I haven’t actually finished all the witch elves that I want to paint up (five more are on my painting desk and will be finished by the 10th of May) but I did end up painting enough figures to meet the monthly requirement. All up I finished these:

- 7 witch elves with two hand weapons and light armor (77 points)

- 1 death dealer (Level 15 hero for witch elf unit) with two hand weapons and light armor (131 points)

- 1 crossbowman with light armor, shield and hand weapon to get my unit of crossbow men up to 15 (13 points)

- 1 helldrake - +3 shock elite on cold one with hand weapon, light armor and shield (39 points)

Here they are:

Pokrzyw's Druchii - Month 1 - Rank & File - blood and tears (401pts)

"From the bloody temples of Khaine bloody sisters come to battlefield. Come closer to the enemies, beginning lethal dance of daggers and lust.. Each time they start dance earth must run with blood of victims.. "..

Plans for January:

Witch elves were planned to enter OWAC 7 with bang. 12 witches plus the cauldron of blood as the primary objective gave solid base for the army. They are really strong in combat, but immortal beauty of marauder miniatures is also legendary.

In addition, a sorcerer with another unit of 10 witches was a nice attachment, depends on available time.

Realisation:

January was really hard - work at morning, evenings connected with searching for my friend's dog that ran away in last days of 2023. Still not found. But.. I started with Couldron - I love the shape of this all miniature - the best one even compared to the newer version.

Witches were pain in the ass.. unfortunately i use skinny-pinky primer, that was a terrible mistake. All ladies looks like they spent too much time taking sunbath. GW Contrasts & speedpaints from Army Painter helps me reach the primary and big part of secondary objectives.

Final Result:

I'm really happy with final effect - two units - 12 and 10 witches with supporting cauldron is a nice core of the army (401pts)
Force of blood, hair, daggers and ti.. tears

Tomato soup for tomato god!

MC Death Hag

Unfortunately lone sorcerer left, but maybe there will be occasion to paint also that one..

The last part for January gift!

This year I've prepared old fashioned dwarf from eighties. Redugal Ironbeard - dwarf fighter. Very small comparing to the modern miniatures, but it is the essence of being the dwarf. For me it is one of the most important minis in my life. He was representation of  my character for WFRP adventures  when I was teenager. Maybe it will not fit for the army of the donee, but the history about  interaction of Redugal with the army can be told, and brave warrior may be used as a filler for the unit..

Nathan’s evil Dark Elf horde - introduction post

I love this time of year. Ordinarily that would simply be down to Christmas being close (hours away as I type this) but to add to the joy is another OWAC! This year I’ve decided on doing a Dark Elf army. I love the third edition figures and had cleaned and undercoated enough of them for an army years ago. It is time for me to get them painted - or at least enough painted to meet the challenge. The plan is to paint these units:

- 14 witch elves including hero;

- 12 dark elves with crossbows including hero;

- 16 dark elves with double handed swords including hero;

- 1 bolt thrower

- 8 cold one rides including hero and sorcerer army commander;

- a cold one chariot (my wildcard month hopefully)

- temple dog rider (I’ve already painted the temple dog!); and if time permits

- a chaos dwarf whirlwind for my chaos dwarf ally contingent which I painted some years ago.

With the high price of dark elf figures in third edition that will be worth well over 1000 points. In all likelihood closer to 3000 but I will figure that out at the end of the challenge. Anyway here are some pics:

Lissanne's X-Elves, Dark Elf April Bloodbowl team

Introducing my Dark Elf team, the X-Elves.
There is always one month you rush a bit on, this time I planned for it.  This is a relatively easy team to paint in order to get a head start on the rather difficult wood elf team I am working on for next month (and doing well on).  They are lovely figures, but fairly new.  However, I don't care much for the old GW team, and these are really nice sculpts.  And I had an good idea of how I wanted to paint them.  So, here are the X-Elves.

Dark elves in our D&D game have a wide variety of skin tones, and it is reflected here.
Names were easy.

                                                   Assassins Wolverine and Cyclops

Runners Rogue and Gambit

                                                  Witch Elves Nightcrawler and Mystique

                                                      Blitzers Sunfire and Phoenix

                                                    Blitzers Banshee and Longshot

                                                         Line Jubilee and Havoc

                                                      Line Quicksilver and Storm

                                                   Line Dazzler and Psylocke

I use the expedient method of having different hair color for the different positions, so they are easy to see what is what when playing.  And here is a back shot.

And for this month's old school minis, since every month should have some old school minis, I present the start of a new team, the Mighty Ducks, a Hobbit team.  Alas, I only have the 4 hobbits.  I was given these little ducks from (I think) Jason Lye, and as soon as I saw them I knew I wanted to use them on their helmets!  They think it makes them look taller.

Someday I will find more hobbits for my Blood Bowl team, but it's a good start.  I have an ent for this team previously painted, but it doesn't count.  So just 5 on the team so far.

And the whole month together- 16 dark elves and 4 hobbits. So 20 figs.

As for next month's wood elf team, here is a preview.  If I don't get all 16 done, I will come very close and finish the rest in my Wild Card month,   Harlequin style is always HARD!  So I have been picking at them every month.   I have pretty much painted everything in my large Blood Bowl tackle box now, which was the point of this OWAC to me!

Shadespyre's February Post - Rank and File (II) - (Still still unnamed) Dark Elves (662 points)

OWAC VI - Rank and File (II) - And Now For Something Completely Similar...?

February

Here at CAMRA* HQ, we believe painting should be a joyless, shoulder to the wheel, grinding experience, and so for month two I have painted EXACTLY THE SAME MINIATURES AGAIN. Well, not quite - the Mengil in this unit has a different shaped sword blade, because the original was missing. Woo.

And almost the same ten crossbowmen. I'd apologise for the out of focus pictures, but if you want to know what they look like, just nip back to the January post...

Something I WILL apologise for is the continued plain grey bases. This is down to logistical issues - I actually ordered a bunch of supplies from my usual vendor at the end of November, and finally cancelled the still unavailable order towards the end of January... I have since over-compensated by purchasing way too much wintery basing stuff which I shall have a go with next month, begging our munificent (and handsome, wise and kind) Overlord's indulgence.

I also had some thoughts on theme and shield designs and things, but I'm still feeling my way with that. I'm loathe to interrup the painting process by overthinking these things too early!

Now I imagine most of you are bored stiff by now, what with there being no NMM or game board or round-based frippery to look at, so here's a bonus unit - Witch Elves!

20 Witch Elves in a mix of the four different poses. No command group because there aren't any minis for one - I'm sure I'll add a Hero to lead them later on. Sadly neither great swords nor shields are available to them in the 3rd edition list (though crossbows are!?), so this unit will have to be armed with merely poisoned dual hand weapons.

I did consider giving this unit a variety of pink / purple hairdos, but I think the white hair makes the unit stand out more from the rest of the army. And it might look nice with the snowy bases, but who can say right now?

Army List Additions:

Scores for January:          662 points    50 models

20 x Dark Elf Warriors    (Standard Bearer, Musician)                               242 points

10 x Dark Elf Crossbowmen       (Shields)                                                       140 points

20 x Witch Elves (Poisoned Attacks, Additional Hand Weapon)              280 points

Running Total:                  1044 points    80 models

(Chances are I'll end up adding a champion to each of my close combat units, but that's for another day.)

I've now met (actually, surpassed) the minimum unit requirements for a legal army. Nice.

Coming Next:

I'll be honest, this month really has been a grind, but Onwards! I said last month I needed to get my originally posted army finished during March if I was to be able to include all the fun stuff I'd like to further down the line. And so I hope this time next month I shall be bringing you 20 painted Cold One riders AND a bonus unit AND some wintery bases.

AdamH’s OWAC VI Jan Post – The Hag Graef Griefers

Month one, my first “troop” month and I almost failed right out of the challenge. I was away for most of December and half of January so my preparation time was zero, I did manage to undercoat my models before I left but that was it.

I started painting on the 16th of January and unfortunately I think it shows in the final products. I am normally quite a slow painter, even more so when I don’t know the scheme so I had to really push myself hard to get these done in time, and as I am writing this post on the evening of the 31st I don’t think I could have cut it much closer.

There are a few details I had to just admit to having to come back later to complete, and some highlights that weren’t as smooth as I would like. The worst part though is I feel the scheme isn’t that great but I didn’t have time to do much about it.

Anyway enough talk, time for pictures:

I don’t think it helped that I am generally not that jazzed about elves in general.

I like the Witch Elf models but the rest of these were pretty meh to paint.

However that just means it is all uphill from here! I have some great teams coming up that I do love the models of, and with a couple of exceptions have some ideas for schemes.

Anyway one more thing from me before I sign off for the month, I owe our glorious leader a tribute, so here is the 13th member of the currently unnamed Skaven team who will be sneaking their way over the pond soon enough:

Here is to next month’s contribution (which I am also a little worried about since I have another week away from tomorrow and it is a short month), something both a little darker and more colourful with a chonky boi addition!

JohnR's Month 3 - Rank and File (1063.5 points)

Another month of painting, another month of wrestling with the camera trying to get decent photos :)

I started with the dark elves this month and their contingent is pretty much done. 5 doom steeds, 18 witch elves, an assassin and the contingent commander to add to the crossbows done in January.

Dark elf characters. On the left is the contingent commander: Baron Susrucha. He was sent to the empire of the Hobgobler Khan as an ambassador by a minor Naggaroth noble house. However the house was wiped out in one of the interminable internecine struggles of that dark kingdom and Susrucha has found himself adrift in a hostile land. He's joined the Axis of Evil while he works out his next move. He's very loosely based on Hasekura Tsunenaga.

5 doom steeds led by a level 5 hero.

The witch elves. I took a few photos of the unit on its own but they were all cr*p. At least this one shows the shields (which are drawing pins). Their hair also got a bit 'Bubblegum Crisis' but I think it looks pretty cool and adds some colour variation to the army. Also I never repaint anything: once it's done, it's done.

I finished the dark elves with some time to spare so dipped into the reinforcements / lead pile and painted a unit of plague monks for the skaven. Plague monks are pretty bobbins in 3rd. If I remember correctly they don't get frenzy, can't have more than basic hand weapons and are limited to a unit size of 20. They're led by the plague priest Derek (front right with warp scroll) and include 2 censer bearers.

Derek loathes Aksys. He suspects that the names the skaven have been given are not, as Aksys giggling told them, those of mighty human heroes but rather some kind of joke. Jabberwock or not he thinks they should slit the old codger's throat in his sleep.

This month's output:

17 witch elves: standard and musician, crossbows and poisoned weapons:     374 points
4 doom steeds (+2 shock elite): light armour, lance, shield, barding:               164 points
Level 5 witch elf hero: light armour, shield, crossbow, poisoned weapons:       56 points
Level 5 dark elf hero: lance, light armour, shield, warhorse and barding:          63 points
Level 10 dark elf assassin: light armour, poison, additional hand weapon:        94 points
Level 15 dark elf hero: light armour, shield, crossbow, poisoned weapons:     137 points

19 plague Monks: standard and musician:                                                          94.5 points
2 Plague censer bearers:                                                                                      80 points
Level 10 skaven hero:                                                                                         50 points

The army so far. Not sure what I'll paint next month - work and home life have got a bit hectic and we're supposed to be going abroad for the last two weeks of April. So if I haven't posted by then it'll probably be a mulligan lol.

Mariano´s Wood Elves - Glade raiders (Sister of Thorn) - 240 pts

Rank and File month #I

Mounted witch elves? No,  Sisters of thorns

Not to be out on the fisrt month - Objective accomplished!!!

I´m back with my Wood Elves army. After last OWAC my hype was so high and after 6 months my hype still on the top so I´m totally focus on finish my WE army.

On December. I spent a few weeks biulding my miniatures for this OWAC and my first impresion was that I could add some witch elves to give me more models variety to the army.  Here you have a catalogue pic:

The originals ones before they desert Dark Elves
army and join the Wood Elves army

They were built to be giant hawk riders but before the end of December I was reading some stories about Wood Elves, looking for inspiration, and I saw the Sister of Thorns, they were perfect! So I modify, again, the miniatures trying to adapt them to be horse riders. I have a pic before primming them

And here you have the result

What have I done this month...?

6 Glade Riders with light armour, musician and standard bearer - 240 points

240 on the month.

240 for the total.

And this is all for the first month. Hop
e you like them
