Nathan’s leader month (1415 points plus a friend)

April was spent painting up my leader which is a greater daemon of Tzeentch. To that I added a disc/screamer of tzeentch. I also managed to finish off my greater daemon of slaanesh to go with the genestealer suit army I painted a number of years ago. I must admit that I found all three figures difficult to paint - not because the sculpts are a problem (they are great IMHO) but they have lots of difficult to access areas. But I got there in the end and I’m happy how these ended up. Here they are:

The Lord of change and disc add up to 1415 points. The Keeper of Secrets will be another 900 points to my slaaneshi forces. Onto May and my pink horrors.

Nathan’s rank and file #2 - more blue horrors

The title says it all really - I managed to finish ten more blue horrors. Seven more and I’m done. But those seven can wait a month as this month I’m working on my leaders for something a bit different. Anyway here they are:

Onto March we go!

Nathan’s last lot of blue horrors - March rank and file number 3 - 795 points

The title says it all really. At one point I was looking to do my command figures but I ended up holding those over till April. For March I did nine more blue horrors and a champion on a flying disc. Here they are:

Bit tricky working out the points values for these as in third edition blue horrors had no points value. A pink horror is worth 140 points so maybe one could say a blue horror is worth 70 points each. 9 of them would be 630 points which does seem to be a bit too high. The champion is equally hard to work out a points value for because your points value in the original Realm of Chaos books came down to how many rewards you had. I’ll give him 6 rewards which is worth 150 points. Finally the disc is easy to value - those are 15 points each for a very rough total of 795 points.

My plan for April is a couple of Lord of Change figures and a few other odds and ends. Time will tell if I get those done.

Nathan’s rank and file month 1 - Blue Horrors of Tzeentch (1,400 pts)

The title says it all really - month one (and the plan is also months two and three) has had me painting blue horrors. The original Kev Adam’s horrors are great figures that ooze character which makes then great fun to paint. Here are the ten I got done in January:

So there we have it - ten mean, nasty little buggers that only arise when you “kill” a pink horror. Which is quite cool, even if it was (at least partly) designed to help GW sell more figures! Thankfully they can also be used on their own in the latest version of Warhammer which is how I plan to use them. But in units of nine of course as that is Tzeentch’s number. And last but not least here is a pic of my pledge figure which will be heading off to the US shortly:

So onto painting some more blue horrors I go…

Nathan’s daemons of Tzeentch intro post

I wasn’t sure I would sign up to challenge number nine after failing challenge number eight (with a khorne army of all things) but the call went out and here I am. I’ve picked an army I collected for Warhammer the Old World which also fits this theme so I reckon I won’t end up in the field of bones this time - and that army is daemon’s of Tzeentch. The vast majority of the figures are third edition era with a handful of the metal screamers thrown in for good measure which I will count as discs of Tzeentch for the purposes of this challenge. Enough of my crapping on - here are the pics:

A couple of test pieces

Most of the army

Greater daemon and champions

And the artwork to inspire me!

Well there you have it. As I paint up the figures I will work out the points cost although for the horrors I will need to split the values as technically blue horrors had no value in third edition as they arose when a pink horror is slain. It expect it will be well over 3000 points as a Lord of Change alone comes in at 1400 points. That is third edition for you - massively unbalanced but the figures look great.

Nathan’s leader month

A leader month has helped me avoid the pile of bones - or at a minimum delay it. I am happy I managed to finish off my bloodthirster which I’m quite happy about as it is a figure I’ve wanted to paint ever since I got the original real of chaos book for Christmas back in 1989. Add to that a couple of leaders and standards bearers and we have a leader group. Here they are:

Not a nice doggy

Army commander on juggernaut

Banner bearers

And another pic of the banners

Two warriors on foot with a Khorne renegade added in for good measure

I haven’t worked out the point value for these as the point values for champions in the Slaves to Darkness book depends on the number of rewards you give them. It is well over a thousand as a bloodthirster on its own is worth 1150 points.

Next up, chaos dwarves…

Nathan’s mulligan month

I had to take my mulligan in February as I didn’t get my leaders finished. So why would I have anything to post you ask? Well I thought I would share with you good people some pics of khorne figures I painted up over the last few years that my current work will join. Here they are:

Nathan’s beastmen of Khorne - month 1 rank and file (199.5 points)

Well the title says it all really. For month one I managed to paint up 14 beastmen; here they are:

In terms of points these add up to 199.5 points as an individual figure with light armor and a shield is 14.25 points each. I already had a couple of these painted from when I did a chaos army for the OWAC some years ago so I have two full units. Next month I’m doing the leaders month and will add a banner for them.

As I’m painting up khorne figures I thought I would also work on some of the 40K stuff I have  -here are two I finished this month:

And finally my pledge mini which is an old citadel cyclops who will go out in the mail next week. Here he is:

Nathan’s intro post - army of Khorne OWAC VIII

The new year beckons, as does another OWAC. This time I’ve chosen to do a khorne army; funnily enough I looked at doing a khorne army for the second OWAC but dropped it because heaps of people were doing chaos for that one. Since then I’ve purchased a couple of war machines that I couldn’t have done in that challenge anyway. Here are the pics of the figures I hope to paint up this time around with most being arranged into units of 8 as required in the Slaves to Darkness army list.

The full army

Thugs and beastmen

Chaos dwarves including the rare arse cannon

Daemons, cultists and champions

The chaos altar and whirlwind

A chaos dwarf juggernaut with crew

I’ve actually painted a handful of figures for this army that I will slot in as I go along as they help ensure my units meet the 8 figure (or divisable by 8) requirement in the army list. If I paint all the figures in the pic the list will look something like this:

- 8 thugs with light armor and two hand weapons                                             78 points
- 16 beastmen with light armor, shields and hand weapons                               230 points
- 8 chaos dwarves with heavy armor, shields and double handed weapons       122 points
- 8 chaos dwarf berserkers with double handed weapons                                  128 points
- 1 chaos dwarf bazuka with heavy armor                                                            67 points
- War altar on a wagon with 8 chaos cultists guards                                            180 points
- Chaos dwarf whirlwind                                                                                       50 points

I must admit I have no idea what the arse cannon or juggernaut are worth but I’m sure I can figure out something. The bloodthirster itself is worth more than a thousand points and the champions point values are determined by the rewards they get - I will roll up the champs when I’ve painted them just to see what rewards and followers they get as that is all part of the fun of doing a StD army!

I’m going to have to paint the juggernaut in stages as it would be extremely difficult to paint fully assembled - so with that in mind I will add the towers once the base is painted. I might even magnetise the second tower so it is easier to add and remove figures from it. The optional war machine (unpictured) is an armorcast cannon of khorne that I bought last year; whilst it is technically for 40K it fits into this army quite well so if time permits I will paint it as it has been cleaned and undercoated. I’ll add pics of my painted daemons of khorne if I manage to complete the challenge…

Nathan’s Evil Dark Elf Army - wrap up post

Seven old world army challenge’s done and dusted. I know I’ve completed all of these - any others? Anyway I’ve spent July painting up some additional figures to include in my army which has been good as I managed to get them done. Exception being the crew for the chariot but the important thing for me was getting the chariot done itself. Enough crapping on from me - here are the figures including the Bryan Ansell inspired army pic:

Megadeth shirt circa 1988 and dodgy handbars moustache is appropriate for the wrap up post!

Unit of crossbows I painted up prior to the challenge

Temple Dog I did prior to the challenge - rider is new though

Last lot of cold one riders

The very rare dark elf chariot

I have to note how happy I am painting all these figures, especially the chariot. The latter isn’t the best mini citadel ever did (the sculpting is pretty rough) but I still think the model is extremely cool. If only I could get my hands on the alternate crew which appear (from the pics on the net at least) to be far better than the crew that were sold with the chariot…
