The most feral of them, first regiment of the army, 6 minotaurs with two handed weapons, Slaaneshchild's January post, rank & file

Beware monsters out of the wasteland.... first start of this new army, a unit of 6 minotaurs... the backbone of my army.
I wanted them to be different but with some find of uniformity. You will recognize one minotaur for RoC, one from Avatar of War, one from Reaper (I think, the skeletal one), and the three last ones are convertions of my own.

The standard bearer was made with an ogre from Fenryll Miniatures (old fashion resin), a keep of secret head and a Knightmare miniature standard sculpted by the almighty Roberth Breseus

The one on the left is again from Fenryll Miniatures, with a GW minotaur head. A classic, easy to make.

And the last one but not the least is made with daemon legs I had in my bitz box for 25 years, a rat ogre torso and a daemon prince head. Pretty disturbing. Of course his big claw is from a GW beast of Slaanesh.

All packed... ready to rampage the old world in the name of the Dark Prince !!

And that's it... that was fast.

6 minotaurs with two handed weapons and standard................................. 308 pts

As it was really fast... I might start painting something new...

EDIT !!!

So... I did something new... I had the time to paint my very own "Tarasque". It is inspired by a monster from medieval folklore from Provence (where I am from). It was supposed to live in the swamp between Arles and Avignon.... eating some villagers until a knight came to destroy it. He then founded the city of Tarascon (inspired by the name Tarasque).

The miniature is, according to Shadespire, a Grenadier Miniatures Tsin Dragon. As I think I am going to play it as a chaos gorgon, I wanted a weird color scheme, something really unnatural.

Here comes the beast !

Jaakko and Slargash - Rank & File #4

Slargash was humming with satisfaction - his troops were on the march. The thumping sound of steel boots and hooves brought terror to the hearts of peasants unlucky enough to cross their path. Last weeks had proven to be beyond his wildest expectations as he had seen his forces grow with creatures he hadn't even known to roam these parts of the Northen Wastes. The gorgon sent by those nice still, still, still unnamed Dark Elves was a particular surprise. He was eager to send them all to battle... but no, he was not to take part. He had been teased to be Slargash the White for too long. Next time he'll command his forces on the battlefield he will be coloured in full and they will call him Slargash the Defiler, Slargash the Great, Slargash of Many Colours!

And hello from me too! It has been a very pleasant month. I really enjoyed painting these models even though I didn't finish everything I intended. I claimed I will paint the army standard this month but there's nothing to worry, I have started the banner and will finish it sooner or later. And the above story is also true, those Dark Elves really sent the gorgon and the painted part of this Chaos army will march to its first battle tomorrow!

Here is my month:

I finished 16 Chaos Warriors including a standard, a gorgon (aka a medusa, not a steel bull) and two trolls.

This month in points:

- 16 warriors with standard: 1258 points

- Gorgon: 110 points

- 2 trolls: 130 points

Total so far 3137 points, 72 models

Until next month - Slargash has to keep waiting as I have other plans for May!

Iannick's Curses of May (350 points)

I must take you into my confidence and warn you. There is a curse which says that all persons present at the opening of a Pharaoh's coffin and who gaze at the face of the mummy therein, shall die. You have been Warned!

This month is a thematic month of curses, for I have painted Mummies and a Gorgon! The funny part is it seems my mummies were indeed cursed! When I started the challenge I couldn't find 3 figures of the classic 3rd edition Citadel mummies I knew I bought a few years back. Now this was very unusual as I'm a neat freak with my collections (a place for everything and everything in it's place), bordering on OCD! And yet after looking everywhere I couldn't find the models. Damn! Fortunately a member of the OWAC graciously offered to send me some. But bad luck struck again and they got lost somewhere between continents (once again I've very rarely lost packages. Canada Customs sucks, but usually it does, eventually, reach it's destination). I couldn't believe it, the curse was real!

But I really wanted to include mummies in my force. I'm a big horror fan and mummies have always fascinated me, and I used to watch on late TV the old Boris Karloff movies. One of my main criticism of the new post 4th edition undead force is indeed the absence of the classic mummies (now part of Khemri, but even then the models don't have that old school vibe to them). So I dug in my collection of bare metal and found a trio of Reapers mummies. Quite nice models, really, if not for their lack of poses. I like their height and their style. If not for nostalgia's sake I probably prefer these ones to the Citadel ones.

Anyways, mummies are expensive rank and file troops in 3rd edition, and are about as close to tanks as the Undead will get. Tough SOB's, really, and at 80pts a pop quite expensive!

That doesn't make for a very productive month, so at the last minute I also added a Gorgon to my month's tally. This model is from the classic and timeless Citadel Night Horrors, sold as "Medusa". It's an incredibly simple figures, and to me that fits very well with the Medusa myth. Gorgons don't need to be imposing monsters, and such a simple and small figures conveys even more the terror of her stare.

Still, a small month in figures counts, even though these four are worth 350 points! I intend to make up for this month's small productivity in June, and the plan is to paint a unit of Zombies as well as my Plague Cart (one of my favourite model ever).

  • 3 mummies : 240pts
  • 1 Gorgon : 110pts
Folks, ONE MONTH LEFT IN THE CHALLENGE!!
