Slaaneshchild's gruesome leader month !

Hum hum... this OWAC is coming to an end... so this is the month I decided to paint the most infamous of all, the Great Unclean One himself !

I had this miniature from a friend and I didn't like its head. It is the alternative head, not the one with horns. He looks particularly stupid so I decided to change it.

I "sculpted" him a new face... A big eye with three eyes (boils) in it and a plaguebearer horn. He will be the "Leader of the eye collector legion" ! I can imagine what infamous reciepe he is going to cook with eyes of his victims....

Now I am prettyyyyyy I deserve a kiss !!!!

Isn't he so cute ?

I am pretty proud of him. He is "Conjonctivus, supreme leader of the eye collector legion".

But a leader won't be a proper one without an herald !

Here come Lord Bubonius, the zealous, a daemon prince of Nurgle. You've all recognized the oldhammer GUO, I just added wings from an Acheron miniature from Confrontation. I just love to imagine him gifted by wings that can't bear him !

This mighty herald will come with his mignons... 7 bases of nurglings.

We have a strong father/son relationship

And of course.... family pictuuuuuure !!!!

Next month, I will paint a leader on chariot and my altar/baggage train. It will be my wild card !

See you next month !

Skål's Blessing's of Nurgle (Troop, Rank and File choice)

In the shadow of a desolate world, Death Guard warriors, embodiments of decay and pestilence, descended upon the unsuspecting Imperial Guard regiment like a plague unleashed from the void. The Death Guard Marines, their armor corroded and dripping with vile ichor, advanced relentlessly through the toxic mists, their presence suffocating hope itself.

The Imperial Guard, valiant but outmatched, stood resolute, their lasguns trembling in the face of inevitable doom. With stoic determination, they formed their ranks, their commanders barking orders amidst the chaos, trying to hold back the encroaching tide of death.

But the Death Guard cared not for mortal valor. With baleful weapons and diseased might, they tore through the Imperial lines like paper, spreading contagion and despair with every step. Plague-ridden shells burst amidst the ranks, dissolving flesh and bone in seething cauldrons of corruption.

The battlefield became a grim tableau of carnage, as the Death Guard's inexorable advance left nothing but ruin in its wake. Against such overwhelming force, the Imperial Guard's resistance faltered, their valiant stand shattered by the relentless march of the Death Guard

As the last echoes of battle faded into the toxic haze, the Death Guard stood victorious, their triumph a testament to the unyielding might of Chaos. The once-proud Imperial Guard lay broken and defeated, a grim reminder of the unforgiving nature of war in the grim darkness of the far future.

This month I dove into my Rogue Trader Chaos Marines with the glee of a Nurgling playing at the feet of Father Nurgle. I had quite a few ideas in my head of how I wanted these marines to look.

This is the first time I had ever used Contrast paints and I was super happy with the basic results of them. Of course, I only used them as the beginning of my paint job as I needed to add highlights, shadows, and gore, lots of beautiful gore.

I loved painting all of the gore, tentacles, and gross bits.

As the unit was not 10 marines strong (seven being the blessed number of Nurgle) I needed to add a few more models to reach the 10 model count. I could not think of a better thing to add a few bases of Papa Nurgle's little blessings in the form of a few bases of Nurglings. I love these little guys. The way they are presented in the stories, they are always such happy little disasters.

In the grim chaos of battle, Nurglings, mischievous manifestations of Nurgle's rot, capered gleefully at the feet of the Death Guard marines. Amidst the carnage, these jovial daemons scampered, their infectious laughter echoing amidst the din of war. Oblivious to the bloodshed around them, they tugged at tattered banners and frolicked, spreading contagion with each playful touch. The Death Guard, embodiments of decay, paid little heed to the antics of their diminutive allies, their attention fixed on the grim task of spreading Nurgle's blessings. Together, in the maelstrom of war, they heralded the inexorable advance of decay and desolation.

I also had a lot of fun painting up my offering which can be seen here receiving his marching orders to support the dwarven effort on this year's OWAC. I sculpted the Bugmans Beer mug to match my unit of Bugmans Rangers. I also left the base blank so that he could be properly based by his new commander.

"Forget no insult, my sons, as I have never forgotten those of my father, of the Emperor, nor those of Horus. Forgive no slight or grievance. Hold your bitterness deep within, and there let it fester. Let it roil and squirm and churn, until you are filled with bile so poisonous that all you touch falls to ruin. Thus shall you serve Nurgle best. Thus shall you spread his virulent gifts across the false Imperium, and watch its final rotting..." — Mortarion, Daemon Primarch of Nurgle

Welcome back to all of the returning painters. You know the drill, wait till the last two days and paint your ass off. To the fresh bloods, paint early, paint often, you are never ahead as Chaos is always present.

Till next month, I raise my horn to all of the challengers.

SKÅL

(This just seemed fitting for my Nurgle month)

The daemons return (430 points)

Hello everyone,

we're here! End of February.
The daemons are here again. I painted much less than last time but anyway I made good progress on them.

Blood doggoes or flesh hound:

I kept them really simple. They have really funny heads, specially the one on the left.

Little rotten babies or nurglings:

These little buggers are really fun. I mixed lots of base paints. There is even one eating his own poo.
Fun guys, lots of variety.

Big slimy or beast of nurgle:
This one is mainly green sludge. I like the goat like eyes. The dendrites weren't easy to do but globally the result is ok for me. It's a big beast ready to wreak havoc.

So that's it for the points of this month:
5 doggoes - 175 pts
6 bases of nurglings - 180 pts
big beasty - 75 pts

A total of 430 pts.

Then the bonus of the month:
The Nurgle pallanquin!

I really enjoyed painting this guy. I used most of the month to paint him. The nurglings on the base were pretty hard to paint. I wrote two chinese letters on the banner saying "unclean". But we can't really see them on the picture. A real classic from the realms of chaos.

Thank you for watching and take care.
Sybou :)

Paul's Gribbly Beasts - Wrap up post

Well here we are, the end of a long but rewarding road. My Chaos Beasts of Nurgle army is complete (for now) and I managed to finish everything I had planned for my first OWAC and a little bit more. Am I chuffed with this result? You bet I am!

Here's the break down of monthly points values....

Month One: Total 200 pts
2 x Beasts of Nurgle 75 pts each = 150 pts

5 x Beastmen 10 pts each = 50 pts

Month Two: Total 200 pts

Beastman Lord = 200 pts

Month Three: Total 265 pts
5 Beastmen - 10 pts each = 50 pts

2 Minotaurs - 40 pts each = 80pts

2 Plague Bearers - 35 pts each = 70 pts

1 Troll = 65 pts

Month Four: Total 235 pts

5 x Chaos Hounds (8pts each) = 40 pts

3 x Minotaurs (40 pts each) = 120 pts
1 x Beast of Nurgle (75 pts each) = 75 pts

Month Five: Total 654 pts
Beastman Shaman Champion = 134 pts

Beastman Hero = 130 pts
19 Beastmen = 190 pts

2 Musicians, 2 Standard Bearers = 80 pts
2 Beastmen Champions = 120 pts
Chaos War Altar = zero

Month Six: Total 354.5
5 Nurgling Bases (30 pts each) = 150 pts

5 Chaos Goblins  (2.5 pts each) = 12.5 pts

8 Chaos Warriors (24 pts each) = 192 pts
Grand Total : 1908.5

A few more shots of the whole army as it would actually be fielded, with the addition of a few more Plague Bearers and a couple of Trolls that were already painted to make those units legal. This would push it above 2000pts and with magic items etc., and the Beastman Lord upped to a Shaman Lord, I could probably field 2500 pts in 4th/5th edition. I'd like to say thanks again to everyone involved for making this such a great challenge as there is no way I would have this army painted and playable in six months without the OWAC. Special shout out to Iannick for all his hard work running it :)

So if we were lucky enough that there was a third OWAC what might my plans be for next time?

I'm tempted by a mixed force of Humans, Dwarves, and Halflings as a Dogs of War contingent, but I'm not sure my current mix of models would conform to army list minimums, although it would be loads of fun to paint.

High Elves might also be an option, as I am falling behind in my ongoing project to complete the Elven Host I started when I was 14. I'd want that to be an entirely new contingent to my existing largely infantry based force, so that would be fun to plan and paint, but then it might be more fun to add a force of Wood Elf allies which I've always said would only come after my High Elves were finished (so never at this rate). That's another great thing about the OWAC, it really gives you license to indulge and enjoy all that mental army building that so many of us enjoy. I'm sure I'll come up with something completely different by the time it comes round again :)

What next for the Gribbly Beasts? Well, they are going straight into foam storage and carrying cases...

...

...

... ready to go to BOYL next weekend! WOOOHOOOOOOO! Nurgle's Rot on Tour 2019! :D

Paul's Gribbly Beasts of Nurgle - Month Six (354.5 points)

The Watcher saw the corruption everywhere it looked as the war band moved across the land. The very ground heaved with a multitude of tiny multicoloured demons, aping the forms of their larger cousins, capering among a moving carpet of blood filled maggots that seemed to be spontaneously generating in the morass of the warband's passing.

The change had touched every living thing for miles around, as witnessed by the crooked forms of the Goblins that had started tailing the main force, their number slowly growing as the changes they endured made it impossible for them to stay with their old tribes, and impossible to resist the call of Chaos.

The great armoured warriors were the last to come to the Gandfather's banner. That was only right. Only the greatest Warbands could force these aspiring champions to put aside their own ambitions and fight together for the greater glory of Chaos.

The Warband marched onwards, destined to cause carnage and corruption to any in its path! The Watcher watched... and was pleased. This was prophecy fulfilled, but this was not the end...

Whoop! and, indeed, Booom! Six straight months of OWACateering and no mulligan. I am exhausted and exhilarated in equal measure.

Having made strong start to the month getting everything base coated within the first week, progress then slowed to absolute zero until the last few days of the month when heat wave and stomach bug be damned I was going to get this thing put to bed.

To be honest this has meant I had to rush some models I'd been deliberately saving until last so I could enjoy them (note for future challenges - it doesn't always work that way and probably best to space them out) but where as the repetition of the colour schemes had been beginning to wear me down at the beginning of the month and contributed to no progress being made, once the pressure was on having the colour schemes predetermined was a big help in getting stuff done.

As I think was mentioned on one of the fb groups recently, it doesn't always have to be a work of art, sometimes you just have to have a good recipe, and that has absolutely been my mantra for this army - stick to the recipe. This month that has probably meant not making as much of the four classic Chaos Champions as I should/could have, but hey, they are painted and look very much part of the army... for now at least, even if chomping at the bit to split off into their own warbands given the slightest chance! ;)

To balance out the four Champions, I included some sculpts in this unit that I felt represented Chaos Marauders who had just stepped up a pay grade. However in researching this post I discovered it was even more of a promotion! The bearded Axe Man turns out to be Chaos Thug sculpt 021307 from the 1988 catalogue, and the furry booted harpoon fetishist is sculpt 021310 - thanks CCmWiki! Shout out to fellow challenger Tom Young for a great deal on these Thugs/Marauders turned Warriors :)

A number of these included shield bosses... but no shields. I'm not counting equipment costs for any of my OWAC units, but if I was these guys would be getting Double Handed weapons, so I wouldn't have included shields anyway. That's not to say they won't get them in the future just for completeness, and painting them as part of the armour just doesn't work for me, hence why the shield bosses have been left black.

The beardy axeman on the end (who for some reason I think looks like a Norscan Raider, even if we all know that heavy armour would be totes innapropes for maritime combat) has a doppleganger who is going to be Iannick's thank you mini for running the challenge. As someone who runs painting challenges myself on a much smaller scale I have some sense of how much work this all is so I was very happy to be able to select something that I hope both feels like it belongs to the OWAC but might also come in handy in the odd D&D game now and then. He got painted in a slightly more neutral colour scheme with that double partly life in mind, as well as the beetle-shell blue feeling like it was in keeping with his possible Norscan roots.

The Nurglings were painted in the full cacophony of colours present across the warband, deliberately echoing some of the plague bearers and Beasts of Nurgle in particular. The chaos warriors helped get me over my fear of putting purple and red next to each other in a unit, and the Nurglings helped get me over the fear of putting them on the same base. It is chaos after all, not a colour scheme for a bathroom suite. Although now I'm thinking about brown and avocado 80s Plague Marines as a 'vanity' project...

My plan to paint the little blood filled maggots with Tamiya Clear red over a dark red base, then a flesh coloured dry brush over the top turned out OK. Would have been better if I'd realised I wanted to do that before doing other base colours, but hey... it looks sufficiently gross that both my children actually made a face when I showed it to them. Result :)

These 'Chaos Goblins' really are a hodge podge. Including a 'unit' of five goblins obviously serves no tactical purpose (although I have already acquired more suitable minis to bulk up this unit) and at 12.5 pts for the whole lot it obviously wasn't about bulking out on points (probably the opposite really as I was already over the 1000 pts mark at the planning stage). No, this was always about painting a collection of old minis that I really liked the look of and would almost certainly not get painted otherwise.

Three of the five were damaged in some way, with odd poses or very thin joins making weapon repairs a bit of a challenge, I want to say these are from an early Middle Earth range, but I haven't made any serious investigations as yet (clues welcome in the comments!). I think my favourite is the slightly oriental looking Hobgoblin chap. He got Oni-red skin and off-white hair to play up the slightly eastern mythology feel, which I think has worked.

The next one was bobbling around my collection missing it's head and I have lost count of the number of times I'd picked it up and thought about sticking a white plastic goblin head from the Fantasy Regiments box set to make it into a Chaos Goblin - it was the inspiration for this little unit to be honest. Thanks to research on the beastment last month I now know it is the Broo Attacking body from the Runequest Broo Box Set.

The final sculpt is of course the classic 80s Citadel skull faced Chaos Thug (code 021002 from the 1988 Catalogue), another trade from Tom Young and a mini I have long wanted to have in my collection (Cheers again Tom!). He's had a bit of a demotion down from thug to goblin. Who even knew that was possible!? Perhaps that is why he looks so confused and down on his luck.

So here is June's breakdown:

5 Nurgling Bases (30 pts each) - 150 pts
5 Chaos Goblins  (2.5 pts each) - 12.5 pts
8 Chaos Warriors (24 pts each) - 192 pts
1 Chaos Warrior for Iannick's Thank You present - 0 pts

Total for the month: 354.5
I realised too late that I didn't take a picture of the whole unit of Chaos Warriors in the light box, so here's a pic I took of the whole month's minis with the unit ranked up :)

Right that's me done until the wrap up posts. Massive congratulations to everyone who has made it to the end! :D
