Wow! These guys are quite prolific, after releasing their first album Horror Chronicles in February of 2021 they are already back with their 2nd full-length offering in just over a year. I really liked the previous release from Thempest as it was more straightforward and even slightly technical death metal. Now, after a 7-year absence, they have returned with their new album and a new more "atmospheric" sound and I am not sure that it is to their advantage. I preferred the more traditional approach of the previous album.

This is currently my new favorite technical death metal album for 2022. I'm not sure that it will end the year in that spot but for now, I am thoroughly enjoying this, their 6th full-length album in 10 years. I started listening to them back in 2012 with their debut Liberation Through Hearing. While I haven't posted any of their material in between then and now I feel that they have remained fairly consistent over the years and have created their best work since their debut with The Masquerade.

So, I know of this band from their 2017 release and I really respect the people at Transcending Obscurity Records and their opinion and dedication to all forms of metal and death metal especially but I get the impression that they are trying to sell this release as one from a band who have left their "core" roots behind but that certainly isn't the case here. Just embrace the "core elements" because this is good!
