David Sylvian is what you would call the genius in the shadows. Since the 70’s he has been involved in numerous underrated projects, let alone collaborating with such artists as Robert Fripp, Bill Frisell, Jon Hassell, and Marc Ribot just to name a few. His childhood was more or less music-ridden and has self-taught himself playing and composing since he was 12. That’s exactly how the nigh absence of outside influence attributes to unparalleled individualism. Each record differs from his next, and nothing sounds uninspired or washed up. Putting all of that aside for a moment, Secrets Of A Beehive, whether or not you remotely care about anything else Sylvian has been associated with, is fluidly, hauntingly, overbearingly, but more importantly, merely powerful. And nothing less.

Last gig as The Doomed (though also seen advertised as The Damned). Gig re-arranged from 21 December. This gig sometimes incorrectly listed as 23 September 1978, 23 October 1978 or 23 January 1979. (Unconfirmed)

Audience recording of a one-off show performed by members of the Damned (Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies and Captain Sensible) and Lemmy from Motorhead. Brian James had left the band, taking the rights to their name with him, leaving them to use the name "The Doomed" as an approximation. Not a bad show, but the recording is a bit rough, although certainly listenable - loud rather than muddy/distorted. They played mainly Damned songs, with a couple of Lemmy's thrown in (Hawkwind's "Silver Machine" and Motorhead's "City Kids").

The old guy returns for a while...

This is in my opinion one of the finest Fleetwood Mac shows ever put on tape. Not only are you getting the group in its prime while riding high on the "Rumours" tour, you are getting a heartfelt, genuine performance as well. The entire group is at peak, with Stevie Nicks as a standout. She has never sounded better. She catapults both "Dreams" and particularly "Rhiannon" into the stars. The girl is on fire, and it shows.

Although labeled as "Mega-rare", this double boot LP along with the Jethro Tull title "A Sack Full Of Trousersnakes" sold out very quickly and was repressed several times. This torrent is taken from a nearly mint first edition on Dragonfly Records. But even if you have this album, your humble seeder believes you have never heard it properly. All copies of this show ran just fast enough to make the performance sound a little sick. I've corrected the speed to make the the album pitch properly. Even though this was just by a small amount, it makes a huge difference in the sound quality.

This album is labeled "entire concert". Well, maybe it is and maybe it isn't. I have heard that "Monday Morning" may in fact have been played and isn't on this two-record set.

Before the band Oingo Boingo, Danny Elfman and his brother Richard founded The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, which was more of a theatrical troupe than a straight ahead band. It has even been said that the very band was formed as part of Richard Elfman's film project. To watch these guys (and girls) do their thing was like watching an NC-17 rated Betty Boop cartoon on acid, a totally rude and hilariously brilliant musical performance experience. The film "The Forbidden Zone" is/was the only cinematic testament to the existence of this wonderfully weird ensemble, which Maestro Danny evolved into the better known new wave big band Oingo Boingo when the brothers parted ways.
One can get sort of an idea as to the energy of this lost treasure of a film from the soundtrack selections. A highlight is Danny's take on Cab Calloway in Minnie the Moocher, which was a staple of the Mystic Knights' original performances. Another is actress Susan Tyrell's performance of "Witch's Egg", which she also penned the lyrics for. There are also the wonderful instrumental intervals, which range from punchy funky cartoonish to surprisingly beautiful (the blatantly Satie-ish love theme), and of course the title theme, the style of which was to determine the rock direction of Boingo.
