Slide guitarist Sonny Landreth is known in guitar circles as The King of Slydeco. Landreth comes from the deep south of the United States, from Louisiana where the local music style is zydeco. Landreth began his career in 1979 as a member of Clifton Chenier's Red Hot Louisiana Band. Chenier was then the zydeco artist in the New Orleans music scene.
Landreth plays with The Goners (Kenneth Blevins on drums, Dave Ransom on bass and Steven Cohn on organ, accordion and vocals) a number of songs from the early 90's albums (Blues Attack from 1981, Down In Louisiana from 1986 and Outward Bound from 1992).

And from the first song, Common Law Love, the zydeco blues blasts out of the speakers with beautiful interaction between Landreth's slide guitar and Cohn's accordion. In the second song, Webb Wilder's Meet Your New Landlord, Landreth lets his slide guitar whine, screech and scream in the intro before the cheerful and very danceable music breaks loose.

It goes on like this throughout the album with Speak Of The Devil (by the Pirates Of Mississippi) with beautiful organ playing by Cohn and with the banging Blues Attack that fully deserves that title. In all those songs, Landreth shows that it is not for nothing that he is counted among the greatest slide guitarists in the music scene by colleagues/fans such as Eric Clapton, Robben Ford and Mark Knopfler.

The live concert closes with two of his most famous songs, the exciting Bad Weather and Congo Square (the square in New Orleans where the slaves who worked on the cotton fields used to gather on Sundays to dance to the zydeco music).
