Charlie Musselwhite - Live Bremen, Germany 2010

 Charlie Musselwhite - The Media Club
Bremen,  Germany
April 22, 2010
Soundboard or FM Source @320

Mississippi-born Charlie Musselwhite was a legendary blues-harp player in the tradition of Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson. One of the few non-black--he was a Choctaw Indian--blues-harmonica players to come out of the Mississippi Delta, he grew up in Memphis, TN, where he met up with Will Shade, Furry Lewis and other blues players. He relocated to Chicago in 1962, having learned the finer points of playing the blues-harp and guitar in Memphis, and worked with such blues legends as J.B. Hutto and Mike Bloomfield and many others. Musselwhite has released over 20 albums, as well as guesting on albums by many other musicians, such as Bonnie Raitt's Longing in Their Hearts and The Blind Boys of Alabama's Spirit of the Century, both winners of Grammy awards. He also appeared on Tom Waits' Mule Variations and INXS' Suicide Blonde. He himself has won 14 W. C. Handy awards and six Grammy nominations, as well as Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Monterey Blues Festival and the San Javier Jazz Festival in San Javier, Spain, and the Mississippi Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts.

James McMurtry - St. Mary Of The Woods - 2002

James McMurtry - St. Mary Of The Woods
Studio recordings @320
{Out Of Print}
Available for $30+

Texas singer/songwriter James McMurtry imparts a high degree of literary insight to (perhaps inadvertently) parallel his famous dad, novelist Larry McMurtry. In any event, the vocalist’s penchant for intertwining his wry wit with cleverly articulated, Southern fried lyricism provides a distinct edge throughout. One component of the artist’s appeal resides within his understated delivery amid his ensemble’s non-intrusive but effective brand of Texas style country-rock. Essentially, McMurtry is an insightful storyteller who utilizes rests between verses. He lets you soak it all in prior to moving on. McMurtry seemingly mirrors an underlying C&W musical approach – where rhyming hooks and finicky notions coalesce with straight four beats and rowdy guitar parts. His band provides sympathetic support while also turning up the volume in spots.

Folks, this isn’t all about the typical twang and schlock oriented stuff, such as lovers' reuniting or - drinking moonshine in the backwoods of Texas. McMurtry’s craft is far beyond that! No doubt, the artist and a few others are reformulating the tried and true into some sort of nouveau spin on familiar territory. Recommended! ~ Glenn Astarita

Don 'Sugarcane' Harris - Cup Full Of Dreams - 1973

Don 'Sugarcane' Harris - Cup Full Of Dreams
Studio recordings @320
{Out of Print}

Beginning his career as the guitar playing half of the 1950s rock duo, Don & Dewey, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, put down the guitar and picked up the violin after the lack of success for Don & Dewey (oddly enough the group's songs became hits for other artists such as the Righteous Brothers and the Premiers). Classically trained as a violinist, Harris' skill at improvisation began attracting attention from the rock world and soon he was appearing on records by John Lee Hooker, Frank Zappa and Johnny Otis. In 1970 Harris joined forces with British blues musician John Mayall when the latter was forming his first all American backing band. In addition to joining the backing bands of Mayall, Zappa and others, Harris also recorded a series of albums for labels such as Epic and Polydor. After a lengthy battle with pulmonary disease, on December 1, 1999 he was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment at the age of 61. ~AMG

In 1955 Dewey Terry and a couple of friends started doo-wop band The Squires. The band included Dewey Terry, Don Harris, Lee Goudreau, Bob Armstrong, Chester Pipkin, Leon Washington and Don Bowman. They recorded various singles on various labels. From 1957 on (until about 1967), Dewey Terry and Don Harris continued as a duo: Don & Dewey, releasing various singles on Specialty Records. 1970 saw the first Don & Dewey album release, compiling most of their singles from previous years.

In the late sixties, Don 'Sugarcane' Harris, started playing with and doing sessions for various artists, including Little Richard, Johnny Otis and John Mayall.

In 1969, longtime Don & Dewey fan Frank Zappa, got Don 'Sugarcane' to join his band. Zappa recorded "Hot Rats", "Burnt Weeny Sandwich", "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" and "Chunga's Revenge" with Sugarcane Harris in his band.

In the seventies, Sugarcane Harris recorded and toured with a.o. John Mayall, the Pure Food & Drug Act and made a couple of solo releases. In the early eighties, he played with Tupelo Chain Sex.

The last years of his life, Sugarcane toured with Dewey Terry again as Don & Dewey.

more of those love-songs

They just seem a little weird...

Here's an Excellent Concert from Cheap Trick (One of my Favorite Bands!)
You may or may not already have it?
IF You Don't - I strongly recommend getting it!
It's a Really Good Sounding show and It's got an Interesting Setlist...
It was recorded in 1977 (Before the Big At Budokan Blowout!) and the bulk of the show is made up from songs from their 1st couple albums...
With a few Exceptions:
"Please Mrs. Henry" (Bob Dylan)
"Down By The Bay" (The Move)
"You're All Talk" & "Loser" (Unreleased - At That Time!)

I really like "Southern Girls" & "Downed" Myself!

Let Others Know What You Thought about this D/L...
and Whether They might Want to Get It as well... And Why?

NEW LINK: 2/16/21

And it makes me wonder...

This is an Oddity to me, anyway...
I've read a couple reviews:
One said it was Odd and Strange - The Other called it Killer!
You're gonna have to decide ForYourOwnSelf!

Anyone remember Santa Esmeralda? They had a Big Disco Hit with "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" (made famous by The Animals)...Sometime around 1977-78. The Original LP Version was a touch over 16 minutes long!

Well, To me this is quite similar...
Only it's Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love," together with some Originals on the Flip Side.

Side A:
A1a  Intro: Stairway To Heaven (Jimmy Page, Robert Plant)  0:56
A1b  Stairway To Heaven (Jimmy Page, Robert Plant)  8:16
A2  Stairway To Love (Armando Noriega)  0:56
A3  Whole Lotta Love (Jimmy Page, John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant)  6:11
A4  Finale: Stairway To Heaven (Jimmy Page, Robert Plant)  1:00

Side B:
Wonderful Medley
B1a  Wonder Dance  3:30
B1b  Wonder Love  1:26
B1c  Wonder Man (Wonder Woman)  3:00
B1d  Finale  4:36
B2  The Wonder (Armando Noriega)  2:33

This is a Vinyl Rip, since it's Never been Officially released on CD, as far as I could tell...

IF You Do decide to D/L It:
Please Tell Me Why?  What You Thought about It?  Etc...

Thanks to the Original Poster!

Here's a Different Vinyl Rip
(All 1 mp3 File: Side A - couple seconds pause then - Side B)
THANKS to the Original Poster!

Harvey Mandel - The Snake {1972}

Harvey Mandel - The Snake {1972}
Studio recordings @320
{Out of Print}
Available at Amazon for $45+

Self-taught guitarist Harvey "The Snake" Mandel is a musical innovator whose guitar style comes out of the electric Chicago blues of his youth. He helped to develop playing techniques such as two-handed fretboard tapping, and the use of sustained and controlled feedback during the mid-'60s. He has played with everyone from Charlie Musselwhite (who nicknamed him "the snake") and Canned Heat to Jimmy Witherspoon, Bob Dylan, John Mayall, and the Rolling Stones.

*My Note*
A really good record with a truly horrible cover.

Track List:

All you need is faith, to hear the diesels hummin'...

This is The Georgia Satellites very First release from 1985. It was a 6 track demo produced by Jeff Glixman (Kansas, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, Etc.) in Atlanta, Georgia. They were actually named Keith and The Satellites just prior to this recording. But after Band member changes, they changed their name. Then, After these Sessions, for all intents and purposes, they broke up...
Keep The Faith was issued on vinyl by a small UK record label, Making Waves.
Then, American record labels took interest and Dan Baird enlisted The Hell Hounds (Rick Richards, Mauro Magellan, and Rick Price) to reform the band.
By 1986, they were signed to Elektra Records and Glixman produced their First album - You Know The One, The One with THAT SONG that became a BIG HIT! Going all the way to #2 on the Billboard Charts...
It was released on CD in 1994 (but has went OoP) and was released in Australia this year, according to DISCOGS. I couldn't find any links to purchase anywhere and According to the Band's Official Website it was only listed as on Vinyl...?

David Seville-Greatest Hits NEVER ON CD OUT OF PRINT FOR OVER 20 YEARS

 The story of David Seville is indeed a sad tale. A one-time seamstress, with a passion for conducting music. Coming from the out-skirts of Kingville Oklahoma, living in extreme poverty, on a dirt farm, where his mother tried to find appetizing recipes using the plentiful dirt from the farm. In a rare interview from 1955 David was quoted as saying "My mother could take the Caliche from the farm and turn it into one of the finest casserole dishes I ever ate." Having 16 brothers and sisters, money was very hard to come by. David revealed "Christmas was always hard for us, what with not a lot of money coming in from the farm. But I remember, one year, I awoke on Christmas morning and underneath the pebbles and mud that my brothers and sisters had constructed as a make-shift Christmas tree, was a present wrapped in old dixie cups and tar paper addressed to me from Santa. I pulled the tar paper off and lo and behold, the finest stick a man could ever see had been presented to me." "That stick meant more to me then all the money in the world." "I remember long days on the farm when after work, raking the dirt into piles, I would imagine myself as a conductor, conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with my stick as my baton at Carnegie Hall."
                                      MIDDLE YEARS:
At seventeen (no not the Janis Ian song, moron ED)  David with encouragement from his siblings set out to find his fame and fortune (no not the Elvis song, simpleton, ED) in California. While there he struggled to find a music publisher who shared his dream. As luck would have it one day while sitting in the offices of Liberty records, fearing another rejection, Charles Oldmann walked in with his new clients, a trio of family Sciuridae. Mr. Oldmann had been hoping to pitch his family of singing rodents to Liberty. David was taken aback by the beauty of the middle chipmunk named Theodore. "My that's a fine set of animals there, said Seville." "You want em'" Oldmann is reportedly said to have said. "Huhh?" came back the reply. "There yours, that one in the red, with the ball cap, is nothing but trouble, his name is Alvin."  With that Mr. Oldmann got up and walked out of the office. Startled, David was then called into the office. Without encouragement the chipmunk's followed in. "Sir, I have a new song for you, it's called "Witch Doctor." Upon hearing the song the producer is supposedly to have said "Great song but it's missing a catchy hook." With that Alvin asked if they could take a ten minute break and come back with the missing "hook." "Alvin? what is your idea? David said." "Here's your Goddamn hook, idiot." Alvin then said "that middle part should go like this, you fuck, ooh,eeh,ooh,ah,aah,ting tang walla walla bing bang." "WOW you're absolutely right, Alvin." David said. "Of course I'm right, you stupid asshole." And with that their careers took off. Chimpmunkmania could not be contained. Selling out The Cereal Bowl in 1963 in Cambodia in a matter of 10 seconds (never mind the venue held six people is a record that stills holds today)  While on a tour of the U.K in 61' it has been reported a despondent John Lennon managed to find his way backstage and pitched his song wares to David. David heard something in these amateur and primitive recordings and bought 12 of the songs, recorded them and released them in 64' Even though by this time The Beatles had become a phenomena, the release of "The Chipmunks Sing The Beatle Hits." is what has been said to be the impetus McCartney needed to record "Sgt. Pepper" However in 65' cracks began to appear. Always relegating David's songs to b-sides only (no album cuts ever) Alvin began to exhort his authority even more. After reports surfaced that Theodore and David had been caught naked together in a hotel in Montreal, the bad press was something they could not suppress. For years Simon's drug abuse rumors were now being exposed. The incident in Paris where it was reported that Simon stole one of Jimi Hendrix's guitars and sold it for smack has never been confirmed. Perhaps Simon's low point came when he was caught in the act of giving an undercover policeman head in a dark alley. In an unprecedented move Alvin then fired Simon, and brought in Simon's twin sister "Fannie" to tour and finish vocal parts for the upcoming album "The Chipmunks Sing With Children." The Chipmunks gave it one last shot with the epic song "Alvin For President" (included here) but it was all for naught. And from here it becomes the beginning of the end. Simon's life starts to drift, his duet album with Art Garfunkel registered no hits and absolutely no airplay. His collaboration with Billy Idol amounted to some unfinished demos and half baked ideas, but has yet to see the light of day. Meanwhile sick of having to deal with the negative press and rumors of being gay, Theodore committed suicide in 68' Alvin, being the trooper that he was tried to continue with David but his heart was no longer in it. He then retired in 72' He has attempted a few comebacks but they have amounted to nothing. (God this is a long fucking text....shut up I'm making this shit up as I go)

FINAL YEARS
David tried to continue on but the taste of the american consumer's had changed and he was no longer able to maintain the heady lifestyle he had obtained in the 60's. He died suffering from Alzheimer's in 94' at the Music Machine's retirement home for band composers. However he has left us forever with a catalog of memorable, hummable, and catchy tunes to last a life time. I agree that BLACK LIVES MATTER, but so does DAVID SEVILLE'S. See scan

She Asked Me Why The Singer's Name Was Alice...

In the early 80's Alice Cooper kinda took a strange path - kind of a If You Can't Beat 'Em, Then Join 'Em attitude OR a Let the Shock Rock King Show You New Wave Kids On The Block How It's Done...
It started with Flush The Fashion (which I liked as a one-off kinda thing) - but Alice kept goin'...
Now, IF you didn't care much for the Special Forces LP (at the time or even now) maybe You wanna give THIS a listen!
This here is the first mix of the record - and You can compare, if You have the original - But it's much more raw and rockin' to these old ears!
I prefer this version to the final released album...
But, like with ALL music - it's up to each person to decide what they like!
