Chris Youlden - Springtime In Texas (Unreleased 1990 Album)

*THANKS TO THE ORIGINAL POSTER

Damn.......Chris is gone. Now I loves me some Savoy Brown without Chris, but if I want the best version (IMO) of Savoy Brown I go to the albums he's on. Can't find a lot of info on this, and at first I didn't think it was Chris Youlden, but no, no from what I can ascertain this is Chris with Top Topham (from The Yardbirds) fronting a band called Bluesprint. Any and all info you can provide would help on this post.

*REBOOTED ORGINALLY POSTED 10-5-19
*LINK 2 NOW FIXED
You know, I don't like doing re-posts. I guess my thought is why didn't you get this the first time? Now I understand that you may be new here but at least you could do is give a reason why you want a re-post in the comments. Speaking of that, maybe after I have re-posted something YOU'VE REQUESTED it would be nice if you could leave a little something in the comments section to let me know my work wasn't in vain. I'll never understand why our comment section is thread bare as compared to other sites, that post stupid and inane headers. Maybe if I post a header that says "The Rolling Stones Suck" I could maybe generate up a little interest here, but I doubt it. But as always download this and go on your merry way.  After all that bitchin then I post a wrong link, I apologize

I guess there are up to 7 volumes of this but I only have these 5. See various scans.

Lard - The Power Of Lard - 1989

Lard - The Power Of Lard (EP)
Studio recordings @ 128
Out of Print

$100+ at the 'Zon

Jello Biafra fronts Ministry
First release 1989
This was the first of many musical projects jello biafra would involve himself with after the break up of the original Dead Kennedys

 Lard is one of several sometime-side projects helmed by the Ministry duo of Al Jourgensen (guitar) and Paul Barker (bass) -- in this case, notably fronted by legendary Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra, along with, initially, drummer Jeff Ward. Founded in 1988, Lard was first brought to the public's attention via the following year's The Power of Lard EP, and even more so by 1990's inaugural full-length The Last Temptation of Reid. Both featured a unique blend of industrial and punk, matched with Biafra's typically political lyrics; but the band's already sporadic touring and recording schedule (this was, after all, a side project) was curtailed even further after the shocking suicide of drummer Ward in 1993. Lard wasn't heard from again until 1997's critically acclaimed Pure Chewing Satisfaction LP, and then again in 2000, via the '70s Rock Must Die EP -- both recorded with Ministry mainstay Bill Rieflin on drums. Jourgensen has since stated that Lard still has one final album in them, but just when this will be recorded, and whether Barker will be involved following his 2004 exit from Ministry, remains to be seen. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Where would we be without Jello and Lard. Well, we'd be in the same place, but we'd have no Jello. And no Lard. And that would not be a happy place. Oh At least we've got Lard to explain it to us. ~Anon

The Urban Voodoo Machine - In Black 'n' Red

From the ORIGINAL FBS archives...
The Urban Voodoo Machine
In Black 'n' Red

Studio recordings @320
{Out of Print}

With their lurching sea shanties, debauched murder ballads, messed-up tangos and whiskey-soaked gypsy stomps, some reckon they're from the same stable of stallions as Tom Waits and Nick Cave; others point out the last gang in town swagger of The Clash and the hellbound blues that John Lee Hooker first dragged out of the swamp. Featuring between 7 to 12 musicians playing - guitars, drums, fiddle, trumpet, banjo, washboard, upright bass, gong, mandolin, accordion, harmonicas, saxophone and even empty bottles & tie racks to build their unique Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop N Stroll.

Track List:

Mason Casey - Reefer Smokin' Man {2000}

With Mason Casey, there are no Harmonica Blues cliches, just straight, sharp, heavy modern blues.

"I grew up in upstate New York. Worked in tree care business and then as a stone mason for twenty years. All the while practicing and learning the blues harmonica. Got first harmonica as 18th birthday present. A friend gave me the Muddy Waters record " Hard Again " and I got hooked on that funky electric harmonica sound. I saw J.Geils band in concert and said that’s the kind of rockin’ blues I want to play. I was practicing all the time.

I decided at 35 years old to get out of my home town and try to make it as a full time musician. It was very hard my first year and I was homeless for 4 months. I was sleeping in my car and at friend’s houses : it was crazy ! I got a place after a while and started getting some gigs in NYC, at Dan Lynch, Finnian’s Rainbow and Manny’s Car Wash.

Met Popa Chubby at Manny’s. He saw me playing at Finnian’s and he liked my harmonica style and my act. He let me sit in with him sometimes and I asked him if he would produce a demo CD. He did and took it to Philippe Langlois at Dixiefrog and he said "let’s make a CD" and we made "Reefer Smokin’ Man" in 2000.

I live in Holland now and play music all around Europe, and do session work when called, (the latest CD of soul legend Wilson Pickett " It’s Harder Now " and also on Don Covay’s latest CD

The TKK is probably the koolest band ever. Not really heavy nor soft music. Just despicable in their own way. So sleazy and evil that they're just fantastic. I can still pull this album out and listen to A Daisy Chain for Satan and never get tired of it. Not since 1990 has this album gotten boring or dated.
Very dark, gothic-esq, but still includes their seventies/funk/devil disco feel, which you have to love,  nobody has ever done better, or even came close to their style. "Days of Swine and Roses," is a classic track, with its quintessential gothic/dance melodic beat and disturbing lyrics.."Christian Zombie Vampires".

In the same sort of vein as Lords of Acid, KDFDM, or Crystal Method. Some of their other recordings are also out of print. I will post if requested.

Powerman 5000 - Mega! Kung Fu Radio {1997}

Powerman 5000 - Mega! Kung Fu Radio
Studio recordings @320
Out of Print

  Before Powerman 5000 went in an industrial metal direction, they crafted a unique sound like no other and defined the variety of nu metal at its core. They blended hip hop, their own stoner-sounding rapping, knockout metal grooves, funky bass, 70's metal style soloing, varied percussion, and more in a seamless mix. Incredibly fun too, perfectly both creative and entertaining. It's like Clutch making a nu metal album.

Mega!! Kung Fu Radio is booming with personality, infectious hooks, heavy grooves, high energy, and Spider One's deadpan delivery of abstract lyricism. What separates Powerman from other rap metal bands is how perfectly they play in both genres. They aren't just rapping over metal riffing, they're blending chunky metal grooves with funky hip hop rhythms seamlessly like they were meant for each other. It's a perfect way to get a metal fan into hip hop, or vice-versa.

I love this whole album, so it's hard to really highlight any particular song, describing the sound as a whole is a lot easier. However, Organizized, 20 Miles to Texas 25 to Hell, Standing 8, and hidden track File Under Action are some particular favorites if I had to choose. File Under Action is the purest hip hop track on the album, with a perfect use of a droning atmosphere and effective placement of guitar riffing and feedback that's made ultra-heavy whenever it appears. Spider One carries great flow throughout the album, but this is among his best performances.

The 90's were an incredibly creative time for music, and Powerman 5000 shows some of the best part of that for both the world of metal and hip hop.

Miles Davis - The Black Album {Unreleased}

Miles Davis - The Black Album
Unreleased studio and live tracks
recorded between 1983 and 1989
Very good studio soundboard
Studio Recordings @224

**Enclosed Notes**
Between 2001 and 2002, Warner Brothers were working on a boxed set that was to include everything Miles Davis had recorded in the studio during his time with the company, 1985-1991, including many previously unreleased studio outtakes, plus some particularly noteworthy live material from the same era. The box was to be called The Last Word, and was initially earmarked for release on Rhino Records in September 2001, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Miles’s death.

In July 2002, the now-defunct ICE newsletter reported:

Originally slated for release August 2002, Rhino pulled [Miles Davis’] The Last Word from rotation stating: “We deeply regret the fact that we will not be releasing [the box set] on August 20,” David Dorn, VP of Media Relations for Warner Strategic Marketing, told ICE. “Our commitment has always been to offer consumers the best possible audio and video products for the best possible value. Due to developing circumstances beyond our control, we felt that this box set would not, in its finished form, meet our standards, or the standards our customers expect from our products.”

Even then, a four-CD set had been sent out to the press and to retailers.

At miles-beyond.com, in a note dated February 2005, Paul Tingen explained why The Last Word project stopped and ends his notes with this:

The banning of my liner notes turned out to be only the beginning of what went wrong with an increasingly ill-fated and ultimately doomed project. Prince, perhaps still motivated by resentment towards Warners, refused to give permission for the release of the three tracks written by him for Miles that Matt Pierson (head of jazz at Warners) wanted to include in the 6-CD set, and similar legal issues held up the release of much of the material from the memorable all-star La Villette concert in Paris in 1991.

Gradually the 6-CD set shrivelled to just 4 CDs, with very little previously unreleased material, which had been kind of the main point of the set. There must still have been a real belief in getting it out, because under huge time pressure Bill Milkowski completed new liner notes in just four days (!), and some CD-R review copies were sent out, without art work. Then some time in 2002 the release was quietly abandoned altogether. Officially no reasons were given. When I queried an insider at Rhino, he would only say: ‘Estate problems.’

So while it is unlikely that you’ll ever get to hear all of the music included in the original 6-CD set, here, at least, is the story of the music in more detail than ever before.

In the meantime, the Japanese Legendary Collection Series released The Black Album, a two-CD compilation featuring some of the unreleased tracks from the aborted The Last Word and other unreleased tracks.

On October 18, 2010, Warner released the two-CD compilation, Perfect Way: The Warner Bros Years. Apart from previously released tracks, the set includes three previously unreleased live tracks - Portia, Carnival and Human Nature - from the 1986 Nice Jazz Festival and two unreleased tracks - Digg That and Rubberband - from the much talked-about Rubberband sessions in 1985, just after he signed to Warner, that featured keyboardist Adam Holzman, Vince Wilburn Jr on drums and Steve Reid on percussion.

For those who are still keeping count, only four of The Black Album’s tracks are officially available. Included here is one still unreleased track from the four-CD Last Word.

Bad Manners - Rare & Fatty 1976-1997
Studio Recordings @128

Bad Manners, composed of vocalist Buster Bloodvessel (born Douglas Trendle), Louis Cook (guitar), David Farren (bass), Martin Stewart (keyboards), Brian Tuitti (drums), Gus Herman (trumpet), Chris Kane (saxophone), and Andrew Marson (saxophone), were one of the many bands to take their inspiration from the Specials and the ska revival movement in England in the late '70s. They quickly became the novelty favorites of the fad through their bald, enormous-bodied frontman's silly on-stage antics, earning early exposure through 2-Tone Records package tours and an appearance in the live documentary Dance Craze. In the early '80s, they managed several U.K. hits including "Ne-Ne Na-Na Na-Na Nu-Nu," "Lip Up Fatty," "Special Brew," and "Can Can." By the mid-'80s, the ska craze was over and the band retired temporarily after the release of 1985's Mental Notes, only to return in 1989 with Return of the Ugly, remaining a live attraction despite a lack of concurrent hits. By the mid-'90s, a third wave ska revival renewed interest in the band. Eat the Beat was released in 1996 and Uneasy Listening followed in 1997, as well as several collections from the band's peak years.

King Biscuit Boy - King Biscuit Boy {1974}

King Biscuit Boy - King Biscuit Boy
Studio recordings @320

CD $40+ at the 'Zon

King Biscuit Boy aka Richard Alfred Newell, the Canadian blues musician noted for his harmonica playing. The name was taken from the 'King Biscuit Time' radio program, and was given to him by rock 'n' roll musician Ronald "Ronnie" Hawkins whilst he was playing as part of his backing band.

This recording has very little in common with the rest of Richard Newell's output, and for good reason. It was produced by Allen Toussaint at his creative apex, and is saturated with his New Orleans funk imprint. Blues traditionalists who enjoy the other Newell albums may not like this one as well, but to those who enjoy the Toussaint-style musical gumbo this offers a gem. It is excellent bluesy R&B. If it is your cup of tea you will want to investigate three other blue-eyed Toussaint productions from the same period: two albums whose titles are the names of the artists, "Browning Bryant" and "Jess Roden," and Frankie Miller's "High Life." Of course, Robert Palmer's first album, "Sneaking Sally Through the Alley," was recorded at Toussaint's studio with the Meters backing, and though not as fully Toussaintized, it is a fine album. ~N. After the seismic 23 months (1959-1961) in which the Ornette Coleman Quartet flipped the jazz world on its ear, Coleman, drummer Ed Blackwell, bassist Charlie Haden, and trumpeter Don Cherry scattered to the winds. In the decades that followed, Coleman jammed with everyone from the London Symphony Orchestra to his ten-year old son Denardo to the Master Musicians of Joujouka. Ed Blackwell drummed for Eric Dolphy and Yoko Ono while Haden wed Spanish Civil War folk songs to jazz. And Don Cherry set about traversing the globe in search of what he deemed “organic music.”

Today, you can find the word “organic” in any Kroger or corner bodega, but in the early ‘70s it was as alien as yoga, world music, and a macrobiotic diet, all concepts that would inform Cherry’s approach to music for the rest of his life....
