Serious Young Insects - House Breaking 1982

Serious Young Insects - House Breaking (1982)
Studio Recordings @192

Out of Print

Serious Young Insects were a short lived Australian pop rock band formed in 1980. The group released one studio album and three singles.

Serious Young Insects formed in 1980 with Peter Farnan on vocals and guitar, Michael Vallance on vocals and bass guitar and Mark White on vocals and drums. Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, described Serious Young Insects as a "quirky, three-piece Melbourne new wave band".

In May 1982, they released the album, Housebreaking, and three singles. Lisa Perry of The Canberra Times praised the album "several times I had to check the cover to see if there were not also some session musos or others contributing to the sounds I was hearing. For a three-piece combo, these lads sure make a good sound". Richard Pleasance, a classically trained guitarist, was a fan and briefly joined the group before it broke up in the following year. ~Wiki

LP Released 1982

*I received a copy of this LP as part of a gag gift at a christmas party around 1987 or so. The fellow who gave it to me hosted an Australian exchange student who brought this record with her. He teased her about it to the point that she gave it to him when she left. I in turn received it from him as a gag when i was about 15 years old and fell in love with it. Years later when I ran across Peter Farnan on MySpace I recounted the story to him and he replied and told me that they had quite a bit of live shows recorded to tape that they wanted to eventually transfer to digital. ~tex d-lux

The Au Pairs were a British post-punk band that formed in Birmingham in 1978 and lasted until 1983. They produced two studio albums and three singles. Their songs
were said to have "contempt for the cliches of contemporary sexual politics" and their music has been compared to the Gang of Four and the Young Marble Giants. The band was led by Lesley Woods, who was once described as "one of the most striking women
in British rock". ~Wiki

We get almost 1,500 hits a day at this blog but no one has much of anything to say. The music we post is getting downloaded like there will be no tomorrow. I'm getting to the point of giving up. There is no satisfaction for posting to a mute audience.

My Bloody Valentine - Peel Session 1988

My Bloody Valentine - Peel Session 1988

When My Bloody Valentine walked on the stage of feedback-pop, something truly magic was finally created in the realm of psychedelia. The mini-album Ecstasy (1987) explored the ambiguity that would make their mature sound so haunting and devastating: ecstasy and terror were two faces of the same moon, and that moon shone day and night. Daydreaming and nightmare became the same state of mind as guitars enveloped naive melodies and drums smashed vocal harmonies. Isn't Anything (1988) went one step further than Jesus And Mary Chain, in that it renounced punk's violence and harked back to the most dilated forms of acid-rock. Kevin Shields' "shoegazing" guitar fullfilled Jerry Garcia's and Jimi Hendrix' galactic bliss, and helped the sweet litanies grind their way into a transcendental trance. Electronic keyboards joined guitar noise on Loveless (1991), the ultimate exploration of textures in rock music. Its stunning chaos can be viewed both as an enraptured "om" to the universe or as a deranged scream in a madman's cell or as a terrified paralysis in the face of a supernatural force. The album changed the meaning of the word "music" by proving the equivalence between "noisy" and 'symphonic", the same way that Einstein proved the equivalence between inertial and gravitational mass.

Dave and Phil Alvin, late of the band the Blasters and longtime mainstays of an American roots-rock scene that absorbs elements of rock, folk, country, and blues, have always had a contentious relationship. Dave’s departure from the band, in the mid-eighties, ushered in a period in which the two brothers kept their distance from each other; Dave pursued a solo career while Phil occasionally reformed the Blasters. Last year, the brothers reunited to record material for “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County,” a musical project masterminded by Stephen King, John Mellencamp, and T-Bone Burnett. And now they have extended the revived partnership with an entire album, “Common Ground: Dave Alvin + Phil Alvin Play and Sing the Songs of Big Bill Broonzy”.
