"during the process/after the release of angel.radio, i started working on this mixtape for a couple of months. i gotta say, im proud of how it turned out. angel.radio was fun, but i think that i've found my groove making vaporwave (im not gonna stop making lofi/other stuff fyi).

while sloejams 1 was mostly upbeat and danceable, ive taken the "slowjam" style to heart on here, with most tracks being somber, downtempo and somewhat introspective. some sample video games, some sample older songs, but they all still have that sugar-glazed-sonic-flair in common.

Violinista e multi-instrumenista com formação clássica e um particular interesse por linguagens de expressão contemporânea. Estudou em Lisboa (ESML/NOVA), Aveiro (UA), Berlim (UDK) e Belfast (SARC). Como intérprete, integrou a Orquestra Gulbenkian em digressão pelo Brasil com o maestro Michael Foster e o violoncelista António Meneses. Em ensemble, realizou tour nacional com Benjamin Clementine e também com Sam the Kid+Orelha Negra em Coliseus e Festivais Nacionais. Membro fundador do ainda ativo quarteto de cordas Hotel, criado para a digressão “Her” de Rita Redshoes pela Rede Nacional de Teatros. Integrou diversas formações de música improvisada, tais como o decateto “Abyss Mirrors” de Luís Lopes, o duo com Maria W Horn ou trio com Norberto Lobo e Helena Espvall (Jazz em Agosto). Como performer, integrou a tour de teatro internacional da “Carta” de Mónica Calle e colaborou com José Fonseca e Costa no seu último filme, Axilas, no papel de Maria Pia, mostrado na rede de cinemas e televisão. No âmbito da música contemporânea tocou em diversos festivais internacionais tais como Münchener Biennale für Experimentelles Musiktheater no Gasteig, Outono de Varsóvia e Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik. Como autora, redigiu três teses de Mestrado e uma de Doutoramento dedicada à criação musical para violino e eletrónica. Produziu dois álbuns a solo, “Beetroot&Other Stories” e “Nolastingname”, nos quais se pode escutar o som dos míticos sintetizadores modulares Buchla 200 gravados no EMS em Estocolmo, numa fusão com o som do violino construído pelo Luthier Fernando Lima. A sua música foi selecionada para diversos documentários, curtas, coreografias e peças de teatro com exibição em festivais tais como Monstra e DocLisboa.

Unrest is a word that comes to mind listening to Maria da Rocha new instalment “nolastingname”. She’s been around for a few years, living between Lisbon, Berlin and Stockholm, releasing records with Maria W. Horn (“Pink”, 2015) or on her own (“Beetroot & Other Stories”, 2018). She studied classical music (violin) but her solo musical career steps away from it, putting her foot down on electronic and experimental music.

“nolastingname” was recorded in Stockholm’s Elektronmusikstudion EMS and mastered by Andreas Tilliander, pushing the bass sound to the limit of distortion. It’s not farfetched to think of this piece as a dance music piece or a freeform industrial composition that stretches to different understandings of what industrial means: drone, electro, experimental, noise. In these 32 minutes a lot happens.

Recorded with her violin and a Buchla, Maria da Rocha starts quietly with the violin and then she moves quickly to the electronics, creating vast and opens spaces that have no ceiling. She lets her music breathe and expand in a very unsettling way. She traps you in this infinite space, and it is as absurd as it sounds. It’s that immense space that becomes claustrophobic sometimes, creates anxiety and leaves you on your toes. And when it reaches the limit, it releases extreme beauty. Are we allowed to say that this one is something unique, special? Because it is.

Symmetrical Forest is the debut EP from Stereo Raptor, released as an independent artist.

Started back in 2017, it is finally here after a lot of work, which helped mature what is now the final product.

It represents an earlier phase of Stereo Raptor, in which the main influences were deep/dark dubstep ones, coming from artists like Biome, Kryptic Minds, District, Skream, Truth and many others.

But with time more influences came to the surface, bringing some musical and timbrical subtleties that the EP didn´t have early on. Such influences came from progressive rock and metal (bands like Opeth and Porcupine Tree, etc.), Ambient Drone (Atrium Carceri, Flowers For Bodysnatchers, etc.), and other prominent electronic music artists like Aphex Twin, Culprate and Igorrr.

Compositions and production started back in 2017.

Mixing and Mastering made from October 2020 to April 2021.

All music and cover art created by Eduardo Calçada (Stereo Raptor).

I want to thank my family and friends for the never ending support and love.
