O, Canada

Five former prime ministers of Canada, Joe Clark, Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien, Paul Martin and Stephen Harper have called on all Canadians to fly the flag as a sign of national unity on Flag Day during the 2025 United States trade war with Canada and Mexico.

I have cousins in Canada, but irrespective of that fact I see no reason why everyone shouldn't show solidarity and stand up to such blatant bullying - do you?

Let's hear from one of that country's greatest exports...

Times are gone
For honest men
Sometimes, far too long for snakes

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?

Indeed.

Canuck-fest, eh?

Not only would our dearly-missed Princess Diana have celebrated her 60th birthday today, but it also happens to be Canada Day!

Without further ado, let's pay due deference to the land that gave the world William Shatner, Fay Wray, Pamela Anderson, Ryan Reynolds, Bryan Adams, Keanu Reeves, Leonard Cohen, Michael Buble, Alanis Morrisette, Jim Carrey, Avril Lavigne, Donald and Kiefer Sutherland, Joni Mitchell, Mike Myers, Shania Twain, Leslie Nielsen, k.d. lang, John Candy, Paul Anka, possibly the world's first fuckable Head of State Justin Trudeau, and - erm - Justin Bieber, Drake and Slime Dion(!) with this delightful ditty [from a citizen of a completely different former colony altogether]...

About Canada Day.

Here as I watch the ships go by

Heavens.

Bruno Martelli appears to have been elected Canadian Prime Minister!

Here as I watch the ships go by
I'm rooted to my shore
I keep asking myself why
And if there's more on the other side
Here as I see the friends I thought I made
A little bit crazed and knowing now
We've outgrown one another

Star maker
Dream breaker
Soul taker
We're happy now

Now when I see the things I want
I can take the things I see
But I keep asking myself why
And if there ain't just a little bit more for me
Here when it's time to count the cost
I keep measuring what I've lost
And wondering if you knew
It would all end up with you

Star maker
Dream breaker
Soul taker
We're happy now
Here as I watch the time go by
How I'd like to sail away
Leaving all my past behind
But I know I'd only last for a couple of days
Here stands everything I thought I made
It's the only life I know
And I can't even call it my own
I've got no hope, I belong to you

My star maker
Dream breaker
Soul taker
We're happy now
We're so happy now

I am sure the Canadian people are!
