- A super-large transport plane capable of carrying 400 soldiers.
- The kit is 39cm long and 48cm wide.

- The XC-99 is a large reciprocating military transport aircraft developed by Convair of the United States based on the B-36 strategic bomber.

- Only one was produced, and it was in service for about 10 years.
- The wings and tail were borrowed from the B-36 design, but the fuselage was significantly different, with a two-story fuselage and the wings moved to a mid-wing configuration.
- Since this was after the end of World War II and before the start of the Cold War, it was deemed that there was no need for such a large transport aircraft, and only one prototype was built, and the C-99 was never mass-produced.
- However, because it had the largest transport capacity at the time, it was delivered to the Air Force on November 23, 1949, even though it was still a prototype, and was deployed in combat.
- As a result, the aircraft logged 7,400 flight hours before being retired in 1957.

1/144 Boeing RC-135V/W Rivet Joint (C-135) and Convair NB-36H Crusader - Roden

1:144  Boeing RC-135V/W Rivet Joint (C-135) - Roden

RC-135V/W - a specialized aircraft for airborne electronic reconnaissance, developed in the 1970s. The main tasks of the RC-135V and RC-135W are to identify sources of radio signal in the area of potential combat operations, collect information on land, sea and air targets, intercept radio communication between command posts and combat units, and monitor enemy air defenses.

For this very specific work, the  aircraft crew consists of 12 to 16 surveillance operators and analysts for the purpose of operational data collection. Usually the RC-135V and RC-135W perform tasks together with other reconnaissance aircraft such as the E-3 AWACS, transmitting all the collected information to it as a mobile command post through a special encrypted communication channel.

The  RC-135V and RC-135W have been in service with the US Air Force for over 40 years and are the main type used for these operations; and since 2013,  three RC-135Ws have been adopted by the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom.

1/144 Convair Kingfish (1959) High Altitude Reconnaissance Aircraft Project - Fantastic Plastic

1/144 Convair Kingfish (1959) High Altitude Reconnaissance Aircraft Project - Fantastic Plastic

Price: $75.00

STATUS: Available February 2022

About the Design

By the mid-1950s, it became clear to the U.S. Air Force that their U-2 spy plane was becoming dangerously vulnerable to Russian anticraft radar and missile attacks. In 1957 it called upon America's top aerospace companies to develop alternatives.

Ultimately, the contest to replace the U-2 came down to two Mach 3 designs: Convair's Kingfish and Lockheed's A-12. The Convair design incorporated a classic delta wing -- the virtual trademark of the company's post-War jets -- with two engines buried in the fuselage. Its edges were angled to offer a low radar cross-section (RCS), a strategy later incorporated into the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter.

In 1959, the Mach 3 recon jet contract was ultimately awarded to Lockheed's A-12, which would eventually become the celebrated SR-71. Work on the Kingfish continued for a few months, but then funds ran out, dooming it to be an eternal "What If?"

About the Design
During the 1950s and 1960s, the United States military actively pursued developed of a long-range strategic bomber powered by atomic energy. Of all the designs developed during this period, Convair's were probably taken the most seriously. Its NX-2 had two principal variations; one had three nuclear X211 turbojets housed in its rear fuselage, plus two underwing nacelles housing single Pratt & Whitney J75 chemical jets for use during take-off and landing. The second variation had four NJ58 nuclear turbojets placed in pairs, but no conventional jets for assistance.

In 1961, President Kennedy decided that nuclear power for jet aircraft was unfeasible, and ordered the program cancelled.

About the Model
Fantastic Plastic Models' NX-2 will depict the three-engine version of Convair's design, which includes the underwing jet nacelles.

I have soft spot for the stratoliner, as i have a few resin kits of this - one of which appears to have had some inspiration from the minicraft B-17 kits as the minicraft wings area a directly interchangeable with the resin wings.

There where at least
- two resin kit/conversions produced the SASQUATCH MODELS 307 STRATOLINER (I think conversion options options for Crwon B-17 and complete kit options where available)
- a vacform conversion set for the B-307/C-75 by Scratchbilt
- Anigrand C-75 Resin Kit
- F-Rsin Resin Kit
- Herb Deeks  conversion resin kit

1/144 scale  Convair R3Y-1 Tradewind  - Anigrand

Anigrand have posted notice of their next 1/144 issue, and it will be the  US Navy Transcontinental Transport

You may recall that previous releases of the R3Y-1 in 'Tanker' mode, as opposed to this proposed release in 'Transport' mode... enough of a difference to justify a release? Did the original sell like hot cakes?

1/144 scale Convair XB-46 - Anigrand (update)

1/144 scale Convair XB-46
Allies jet power: Target Das Reich
Available: Mar 2010
Price: $68 (USD) + $10(USD) Shipping

http://www.anigrand.com/AA4046_XB-46.htm

Anigrand web link is not working for this kit, but the assumption would be that there will be bonus aircraft!?

http://www.anigrand.com/future_releases.htm

The Convair XB-46 was a single example of an experimental medium jet bomber developed in the mid-1940s but which never saw production or active duty. In 1944 the U.S. War Department was aware of aviation advances in Nazi Germany and issued a requirement for a range of designs for medium bombers weighing from 80,000 to more than 200,000 pounds (36,000 to over 90,000 kg). Consolidated Vultee Aircraft (Convair) responded with their Model 109, a 90,000 pounds (41,000 kg) design which was accepted by the USAAF in November 1944 and designated as the B-46. Other designs resulting from this competition included the North American XB-45, the Boeing XB-47 and the Martin XB-48.
