1/144 World Tank Museum Vol.1 (German Blitzkrieg 1940) - F-Toys

1/144 World Tank Museum Vol.1 (German Blitzkrieg 1940) - F-Toys
Well it has been a long time waiting, but finally we get a new WTM series. Interestingly the Sd.Kfz was part of the much delayed WTM series revealed many years back, so there could be some hope of seeing the British and Soviet tanks that were also part of the cancelled set?

Well these items are welcome, in particular the Flak 36 as it can be used for the basis of some interesting conversions....

The other surprise is the coperation of F-Toys and Kaiyodo (owner of WTM Brand), lets hope this means we will start to see many more of these items in the coming months! What this means for F-Toys own Battle Tank Collections series who can say. As long as they are producing armour then the name doesn't really matter.

further images are on Dameya's Page

Three colour options for each of the following (inv DAK), and possibly some bonus figures with one or more of the Panzer I.

1/144 World Tank Museum Kit - Planned Releases

1/144 World Tank Museum Kit - Planned Releases
The June 2013 edition of Armour Modelling magazine has an interesting feature on upcoming releases (Late 2013?). I think at this stage they will follow the recent format of WTM kits of being issued unpainted but in various colours of plastic, though if this was a return to the prepainted WTM items of old then all the better!?

Images used with permission of Dameya (Source)

It is interesting that the 8t was first spotted way back in 2006 and reported on this blog
http://kampfgruppe144.blogspot.co.uk/2006/07/takara-wtm-10-part-2.html, it would be interesting to see some of the items on that post also released one day.

While this 88mm does not have the sophistication and quality of the Strategist 88mm, it will be a more economic and could allow for some interesting customisations.

Also do not forget there are KG144 and CGD figure sets that would complement this release!

1/144 German 12.8cm Flak 40 Zwilling - CGD.

1/144 German 12.8cm Flak 40 Zwilling - CGD.
The  new 1/144 German 12.8cm Flak 40 Zwilling from CGD. This vehicle is fully painted in Panzergrau scheme and weathered. Minor assembling required.

12.8cm Flak 40 Zwilling - This was a twin gun variant of the 12.8cm Flak 40 single gun version which started development in 1936. Production was by Rheinmetall Borsig. The Zwilling version was used primarily for use on the Flak Towers, with some mounted on rail trailers for limited mobility. The single gun version already weighted 26.5 tonnes, so the Zwilling version was impossible to be used as a towed artillery.

The gun used a charge four times as powerful as the 88 Flaks and could fire a 27.9kg warhead to a ceiling of 14800 meters. The warhead reached its target one third the time required by an 88 an was effective against high speed targets.

Designed using Official Archive Drawings

The 12.8cm Flak 40 Zwilling required a crew of 21 to operate excluding the Geschützführer, although 10 of which were to just bringing the ammunition form storage to the gun during firing.

This model features a traversing bracket on a mount to be fixed on a concrete platform. Guns can be elevated in sync with hydraulic pistons.

Although I have focused on on or two of these Draisines from Brengun in the past, I thought it opportune to review the series to-date. Curiously the series has been joined by a 'Kugelblitz' varient Draisine of the "What If" variery, the other t3x items represent historical vehicles.

1/144 Flakpanzer IV Ostwind Turret for Conversion

1/144 Flakpanzer IV Ostwind Turret for Conversion
"Ostwind" - (East Wind) was developed as a successor to the "Wirbelwind" in an attempt to provide increased firepower against aircraft attacks for armour columns. A rapid firing 3.7cm Flak 43 was mounted in an open topped six sided turret nicked name "Keksdose" (Cookie Tin). The open topped design was adopted because of the heavy smoke generated by the gun during firing. The vehicle used the chassis of the "Work Horse" of the Wehrmacht, the Panzer IV. Because of the delay in production caused by Allies bombing facilities, only about 40+ vehicles were built.

Available in painted Panzergrau, Dunkelgelb and Unpainted. Turret Only!!

This set contains one turret. Panzer IV chassis NOT included. Gun can be elevated. The turret pivot is 2.5mm in diameter and come with a ring adapter to enlarge the pivot to 5.7mm diameter. Should fit tanks from other manufacturers too.

Depending on which Panzer IV chassis you used, the turret pivot and the adapter might need to be cut short for fitting. Compatible with WTM, Dragon or 21st CC Pz.IVs

1/144 8.8cm Flak auf Sonderfahrgestell - Matuo Kasten

1/144 8.8cm Flak auf Sonderfahrgestell - Matuo Kasten

its been a while since I posted an item coming out of the Matuo Kasten workshops, but here is an impressive item to add to your array of Whermacht Flak Panzers!

One of 3 prototypes based upon a heavily modified Pz.IV chassis to help counter the threat of Allied air power as early as 1942! However despite support for the Luftwaffe, the various issues and failings encountered in trails lead to the project was abandoned in 1944.

The kits is nicely details and doesnt contain to many onerous parts or micro detailing, so it should go together quite nicely.

The vehicle is featured in on the Achtung Panzer Grille Series page, and Panzer Tracts No. 12-1 - Flakpanzerkampfwagen IV and other Flakpanzer projects development and production from 1942 to 1945
It must be noted that Matuo Kasten has also the larger 17cm Grille on the web site and other Flak Panzers!

1/144 Mercedes Benz L4500A & Flak - CGD

1/144 Mercedes Benz L4500A and Flak Series - CGD

Mercedes Benz L4500A mit 5cm Flak 41 ($22.90 from CGD@eBay )
This is a semi armoured version of a Mercedes Benz L4500A with a 5cm Flak 41 fitted for mid range anti air defense for armour columns. The vehicle had folding anchoring stands to absorb the recoil of the gun. The gun design was not a particular success because of slow transverse speed, and a heavy but not too powerful cartridge. It was to be replaced by the 5.5cm Flaks in development.
This model features a L4500A towing ammunition trailer. Optional anchoring stands allow the model to be assembled in "Up" traveling mode or "Down" deploy mode. The 5cm Flak can be transversed and elevated.

 Mercedes Benz L4500A mit 3.7cm Flak 36  ($22.90 from CGD@eBay )
This is a semi armoured version of a Mercedes Benz L4500A with a 3.7cm Flak 41 fitted for close range anti air defense for armour columns. The vehicle had folding anchoring stands to absorb the recoil of the gun. The gun was an improvement over the 2cm Flak 38, providing better defense against better armoured airplanes.
This model features a L4500A towing ammunition trailer. Optional anchoring stands allow the model to be assembled in "Up" traveling mode or "Down" deploy mode. The 3.7cm Flak can be transversed and elevated. The 3.7cm Flak and its mounting sled can be detached and deployed elsewhere if the customer desires, such on other vehicles such as sWS
.

Mercedes Benz L4500A mit 2cm Flakvierling 38  ( $21.90 from CGD@eBay )
This is a semi armoured version of a Mercedes Benz L4500A with a 2cm Flak Flakvierling 38 fitted for close range anti air defense for armour columns. Side panel of the truck were folded down during anti air operations. Each of the 2cm Flak had a rate of fire of 220 RPM.

This model features a L4500A towing ammunition trailer. The side panels can be folded down so that the model can be operated in travel mode or deploy mode as the real vehicle. The 2cm Flakvierling can be transversed and elevated. The 2cm Flakverling and its mounting sled can be detached and deployed elsewhere if the customer desires, such as for fixed ground deployment.

The development of the VOMAG is an interesting one, based upon the Vogtländische Maschinenfabrik AG (VOMAG) design for the Büssing NAG 900L. The chassis had three axles, two of which were driven, and was powered by a 6-cylinder diesel engine that was capable of reaching 90 km / h. (55 mph).

It was armed with the 88mm Flak 18, but with barrel from the Flak 36.
“Arguably, making it the original and most fearsome ‘monster truck’.....!?”

The Vomag served exclusively with the original Wehrmacht unit of the Führerbegleitbrigade (FBB: Führer escort brigade). It was highly mobile and easy to deploy to ‘hot spots’ across Germany and Occupied Europe. Notable engagements where the defence of German cities against Allied bombing, protection duties at Hitlers HQ the Wolf's Lair (Wolfsschanze) near Rastenburg, before the destruction of the units in February 1945 during the siege of Budapest.

1/144 88mm Flak Zugkraftwagen (FAMO)

The October 2010 Release by Panzer Depot: The German 88mm Flak 37 auf ZgKw 18t
or under its official titile "8.8cm Flak 37 Selbstfahrlafette auf 18 ton Zugkraftwagen", based upon a FAMO SDKFZ 9 with added armour and 88mm AA Gun.

Generally a nice looking rendition, some minor faults, and the 88mm looks slightly out of proportion as the photos give the appearance of a more slender barrel.

It would appear to be another triumph of (brute) syle over function, as only a small number were produced and all were issued to a single unit in Italy

Options: in two styles, and two colour schemes.
