DH-88 COMET
The de Havilland DH.88 Comet is a two-seat, twin-engined aircraft developed specifically to participate in the 1934 England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race from the United Kingdom to Australia.

Development of the DH.88 Comet was initiated at the behest of British aviation pioneer Geoffrey de Havilland, along with the support of de Havilland's board, being keen to garner prestige from producing the victorious aircraft as well as to gain from the research involved in producing it. The Comet was designed by A. E. Hagg around the specific requirements of the race; Hagg produced an innovative design in the form of a stressed-skin cantilever monoplane, complete with an enclosed cockpit, retractable undercarriage, landing flaps, and variable-pitch propellers.

A total of three Comets were produced for the race, all for private owners at the discounted price of £5,000 per aircraft. The aircraft underwent a rapid development cycle, performing its maiden flight only six weeks prior to the race. Comet G-ACSS Grosvenor House emerged as the winner. Two further examples were later built. The Comet went on to establish a multitude of aviation records, both during the race and in its aftermath, as well as participating in further races. Several examples were bought and evaluated by national governments, typically as mail planes. Two Comets, G-ACSS and G-ACSP, survived into preservation, while a number of full-scale replicas have also been constructed.

 BERNARD 191 L’OISEAU CANARI
The Canary Bird is a French great raid aircraft, which was named because of its bright yellow colour. It is derived from the Bernard 190 T designed by Jean Hubert , Chief Engineer of the Bernard Aircraft Company .

The Canari Bird made the first nonstop French crossing of the North Atlantic, the June 13 , 1929, driven by Jean Assollant , René Lefèvre and Armand Lotti . The crossing took place from Old Orchard Beach (Maine) north of Boston to Oyambre, near Comillas ( Cantabria , Spain ), setting a record for the longest trip over an ocean (5,900 kilometers ). The Canary Bird is also known to have transported the first stowaway during the crossing, Arthur Schreiber .

Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet
The Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jet is a light attack jet and advanced jet trainer co-manufactured by Dassault Aviation of France and Dornier Flugzeugwerke of Germany. It was developed specifically to perform the trainer and light attack missions, as well as to perform these duties more ideally than the first generation of jet trainers that preceded it. Following a competition, a design submitted by a team comprising Breguet Aviation, Dassault Aviation, and Dornier Flugzeugwerke, initially designated as the TA501, was selected and subsequently produced as the Alpha Jet.

Both the French Air Force and German Air Force procured the Alpha Jet in large numbers, the former principally as a trainer aircraft and the latter choosing to use it as a light attack platform. As a result of post-Cold War military cutbacks, Germany elected to retire its own fleet of Alpha Jets in the 1990s and has re-sold many of these aircraft to both military and civilian operators. The Alpha Jet has been adopted by a number of air forces across the world and has also seen active combat use by some of these operators.

1/144 Dornier Do-17Z-2/3 'In Finland' - Mark I

1/144 Dornier Do-17Z-2/3 'In Finland' - Mark I

Dornier Do-17Z-2/3 'In Finland' The Do-17 was a German light bomber, designed in the early 1930s. It was originally intended as a fast six-passenger mail plane and its V1 prototype flew in November 1934. Following tests and design improvements in-line and radial engine powered aircraft were
evolved, represented by the Do-17E/F and Do-17K/M/P, respectively. The most recognised and mass-produced variant was the Do 17Z series, with the Z-2 bombers and Z-3 long-range reconnaissance planes. Due to its fuselage outline it was dubbed the ‘Flying Pencil’.

The Do 17 was a four-seat, all-metal monoplane powered by two Bramo Fafnir radial engines. It had a shoulder wing configuration and twin tail fins. Its long thin fuselage was fitted with a stepped cockpit and a glazed nose. Its bombload was 1,000 kg and it was fitted with six machine guns. The Z-3 variant had reduced bombload, while carrying two recce cameras.

Do 17Zs were produced by four factories and in total some 880 aircraft were built.
The Do 17 was used throughout the war, and saw action in significant numbers in every major campaign theatre as a front line aircraft until the end of 1941.

The Finnish Air Force received 15 Do 17Z aircraft (a mix of Z-1/2/3 variants) in January 1942 which equipped their No.46 Squadron. The last airworthy operated aircraft were eventually scrapped in late1952.

Colour schemes included in the kit:
1) Dornier Do 17Z-2, CQ+HG (W.Nr. 4187), Luftwaffe, Tampere airfield, Finland, February 1942
2) Dornier Do 17Z-3, White DN-60 (W.Nr. 2818), 1/LeLv 46 (Squadron), Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat), Pyhäselkä airfield, summer 1942
3) Dornier Do 17Z-3, White DN-64 ‘Ace of Spades’ (W.Nr. 2822), LeLv 46 (Squadron), Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat), Helsinki-Malmi airport, April 1943
4) Dornier Do 17Z-3, White DN-52 (W.Nr. 2608), PLeLv 43 (Bomber Sq.), LeR 4 (Flying Regt.), Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat), Luonetjärvi airfield, summer 1947

This injection-moulded kit contains 63 parts and eleven clear parts (the cockpit canopies, rear ventral gunner’s window etc.). A comprehensive decal sheet is included.

1/144 Dornier Do-17 "Flying Pencil" from Mark I

1/144 Dornier Do-17 "Flying Pencil" from Mark I
Previously only available in 1/144 as garage kits, or the Amercom Do-17Z issued model, this welcome injected kit fills a hole in many peoples early war (and Spanish Civil War) collections.

Designed in the early 1930s, it was one of the three main Luftwaffe bomber types used in the first three years of the war. The Do 17 made its combat debut in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War, operating in the Condor Legion in various roles. Along with the Heinkel He 111 it was the main bomber type of the German air arm in 1939–1940. The Dornier was used throughout the early war, and saw action in significant numbers in every major campaign theatre as a front line aircraft until the end of 1941, when its effectiveness and usage was curtailed as its bomb load and range were limited.

1/144 German experimental VTOL aircrafts 4-in 1 - Anigrand

1/144 German experimental VTOL aircrafts 4-in 1 - Anigrand

http://www.anigrand.com/AA3010_German-VTOL.htm

In late 1950's, the West Germany issued an requirement for the VTOL fighter, attack and transport aircrafts programme. The idea being that in case of Soviet attack, the VTOL would support dispersal of combat aircraft assets to small and easy concealed operation base. A renewed interest in STOL and VTOL aircraft led to a re-evaluation of Focke's concept, and Dornier was given a contract to develop Do.29 capable of demonstrating the tilting-propeller system. The concept was proved to be successful in flight testing. In 1959, Heinkel, Messerschmitt and Boelkow formed EWR to build the VTOL fighter aircraft, designated VJ-101. In 1962, follow up on the NATO requirement, the VTOL transport was issued. The Dornier began work on a demonstrator which was given the designation of Do.31. In 1963, German government decided to work on another ground-attack fighter, the VAK-191. When the high cost, technical difficulties were realised the Luftwaffe and NATO ceased trials involving VTOL aircrafts which resulted in the cancellation of these projects and further use of these aircrafts were limited to research purposes only.

1/144 Dornier Do-27 - Miniwing

1/144 Dornier Do-27 - Miniwing
This latest release from Miniwing brings us a nice little light utility aircraft that has been widely used by military forces around the world. Also of interest, is regard as the first mass produced aircraft by German industry following the WWII at around 630 aircraft. Notable (or infamous?) users as covered by one of the decal schemes were the Portuguese with their retreat from empire colonial wars of the of 60s. It would appear that Miniwing have stayed away from the playful Zebra scheme as used by naturalist and campaigner Bernhard Grzimek who contributed to the Serengeti National Park being created!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_Do_27
http://www.do27.com/do27_en/

The kit conforms to the Miniwing signature format and feel being cleanly cast and no obvious air bubbles, panel lines on fuselage are finely cast and provide a good balance between finesse and detailing.

This kit comes with two schemas:
Bundesmarine,  MFG-5 Kiel-Holtnau, January 1967
Força Aérea Portuguesa, Nambuangongo, Angola 1968

1/144 Dornier Do-17z Kits by Petersplanes

1/144 Dornier Do-17z Kits by Petersplanes

Peter has been busily beavering away on his excellent line of 1/144 aircraft originally seeking out opportunity for under represented seaplanes, the range has also been extended to cover aircraft flown by the RAF and in particular RAAF (Royal Australian Air force) and with the Do-17z marks a move into other under represented aircraft with one of the 'elephants in the room' being a lack of a Do-17 Kit.

Peters Planes can supply this model to you in two formats:

1) "WarGamer" - this is the simplest option available cast for those who require their models to be either robust or similar to build in this case a mere 9 pieces and to be shown stand mounted.

2) "Gold Series" - this is for those who prefer more of a challenge or wish to put the time and effort into a more complex build, often with a choice of marks or variants available with which to complete your kit. The Gold series as seen also come with other value added parts such as white metal props and the option of solid canopies (or, do be used for heat basing vac canopies) and two sets of vac form canopies (in case of trimming 'issues')

Both kits have been mastered using 3D CAD Software and a master produced to then undertake a more tradition casting process, a vacuum pump is used remove the trapped air from the mold to ensure that no bubbles are present in the final cast. I think that you can tell that this provides a nice degree of detailing on both formats of the kit as can bee seen from the photos above, and collective both options produce a very fine looking aircraft.

Peterplanes recommend 'Gator Glue' or similar PVA glue for the vac-form pieces with your favoured glue for the resin cast items (CA etc)

A set of decals are provided also.

1/144 Dornier Do-19 "Ural bomber" - Unicraft

Unicraft are planning to produce the Dornier DO-19 "Ural bomber, for some time on 2010 or 2011.

Actually a pre-WWII design, that flew as a prototype but did not go into production.

There was a 4 Engine Bomber competition, which luckily once the military sponsor died the armaments programs shifted back to Tactical Fighters/Bombers!
