1/144 Soviet 'Shchuka' class submarine - Zvezda

1/144 Soviet 'Shchuka' class submarine - Zvezda

The Shchuka-class submarines (Russian: Щука), also referred to as Sh or Shch-class submarines, were a medium-sized class of Soviet submarines, built in large numbers and used during World War II. "Shchuka" is Russian for pike.

The Shchukas suffered heavy losses during the war. The Baltic, Black Sea and Northern Fleets lost 60–70% of their submarines. However, the submarines of the Pacific Fleet did not suffer any losses to the Japanese due to the tranquil nature of the theatre (military operations commenced only in the autumn of 1945 when the Japanese fleet largely was defeated). Three submarines were, however, lost to non-combat reasons. In all, 35 Shchuka-class submarines were lost, the vast majority during World War II.

From the image shown on the Zvesda catalogue, the design of the conning tower (sail) of this boat would appear to represent one of the 10 Series X Shchukas of the Pacific Fleet - there is no markings visible on the submarine.  However, in the image below  shows the same design along side the Soviet Cruiser 'Komintern' which was part of the Black Sea Fleet...

It is not known if parts to build all major variants will be included in this kit.

Kit Length 39.6 cm

Future Release: 2021

Mikr-Mir also did the alternate version of this submarine:

1/144 Fairey Battle - Zvezda

1/144 Fairey Battle - Zvezda

A nice new model of a type we haven't seen in this scale before, though aimed at wargaming, we have seen these modeled very nicely indeed! Flown by a the Royal Air Force, Belgian Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force, Free Polish Air Force, it should prove popular.

its already No.6 on the Hannants best sellers this week list - which hardely ever happens for a 1/144 - except for the boring airliners ;-)

1/144 AH-64 Apache Helicopter - Zvezda

1/144 AH-64 Apache Helicopter - Zvezda
First sight of the new Apache from Zvezda. The price is more than is 2-3 times the cost of the aircraft released so for. So unless they have upped their game on the quality and detailing of the kits this seems a bit overpriced. On this basis  it will be cheaper to by the Revell versions (although, I concede that might not be up to the rigours that wargaming subjects a model to?) http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ZVE7408   Lets hope this is a pricing error on the hannants site?

The other recent 'Art of Tactic' wargaming series aircraft kits come out from Zvezda have been very reasonable. Interestingly they seem to be branding the cold war series items as "Hot War".

1/144 "Art of Tactics" Gaming Pieces - Zevezda

1/144 "Art of Tactics" Gaming Pieces - Zevezda

It looks like 2013 will see Zvezda expand its "Art of Tactics" gaming range in two ways: a) expanding the "Great Patriotic War" series, b) adding  "Modern Era" Series. The benefit of this is we get some more 'cheap and cheerful' 1/144 aviation kits!

1/144 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I - Zvezda

1/144 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I - Zvezda
Designed for the Zvezda "At of Tactics" wargamer series, these small kits are issued seperately in their own right. It will not match the quality of the Sweet Hurricane kits, but these Zvezda kits are very cheap with a low parts count (9parts)!

1/144 Lagg-3 & Bf-109 by Zvezda

1/144 Lagg-3 & Bf-109 by Zvezda
It has been interesting to note the creation by Zvezda of Russia of a new series of budget price 1/144 kits. First came the Sturmovil IL-2, then the Junkers Ju-87. Now, we have the Lagg-3 and Bf-109.

Ok, so the Bf-109 isn't going to win any hearts, but the Lagg-3 is currently not available with the possible exception of the True North Metal items, and even then the Zvezda items still look better?(in some respects, also no worse than some of the earlier minicraft kits!)

I think the Lagg-3 and future Soviet VVS WWII aircraft could find their way onto some modelling benches, in a bid to fill holes in peoples Soviet Aircraft collection.

Although, Zvezda are selling these as kits with decals and stands, they are initialy intended for use with thier new 'war game' system. This war game is system called the 'Art of Tactic' and is currently released in Russian, but looks like it could be released in German and English too!

Available: January 2011 ( IL-2, Ju-87 )

Available: March 2011 ( Lagg - 3, bf-109 )

To be confirmed:
Ju-52. Li-2 (DC-3) - hopefully still 1/144 (?),
and
more Soviet VVS Fighters!? (La-5)

The following site gives more insight into the Zvezda "war game" called
"Art of Tactic"
http://art-of-tactic.com/

some of the artwork here would suggest more Soviet VVS fighters to come....

1/148 IL-2 - by Zvezda

Звезда 1/148 Ил-2!
Zvesda 1/148 IL-2

An interesting kit has come to my attention, it appears that it may be part of a magazine series in Russian similar to the 'Del Prado' or Ixo/Altaya style approach where a magazine and a model/kit are sold as a package. It is not clear if this is a one-off special, or part of an on-going series?

The kit is simple and cheap by all acounts, please see the link below for more photographs.

The kit appears to have been made by Zvezda and is approx 1/148, again not clear is this is a common size or a size to fit the package?

Obviously, Google translate does not provide all answers!?
So if you have any further information?
