Haunted House

8x5.5 watercolor and ink on Strathmore Visual Journal for mixed media finished today.  Initial ink sketch done yesterday with Pigma Micron 01 pen from life using a small Halloween resin house.  I ignored local color and made up my own including an eerie sky.  Also made up the foreground of the tombstone, pumpkins, black cat, and man's head.  All 3 ghosts were made up as were the other creatures of the night haunting the roof.  A fun little piece.  Boo!

Al's Kitty

6x4 watercolor and ink line on paper, a magazine insert, that I grabbed to sketch after meeting this fat, fluffy black cat. It belongs to Al, a retired golf pro, who is our neighbor in New Mexico.  A WWII veteran, Al takes care of the strays, and when I need my DH gone awhile, Al takes him to a golf course for a lesson.  This solid black cat of his suns herself on our condo steps so was there to greet me with a friendly purr. Now will have to post this on Facebook's 30 Cats in 30 Days Challenge as started by Valri Ary.

Mousetrap

8x5.5 watercolor on Strathmore Visual Journal mixed media paper, drawn with Pigma Micron 03 pen today while getting my hair styled.  I actually did two more sketches while waiting, so who says that's a waste of time...I can't wait until my mom sees this one as she has a phobia of mice.Image is COPYRIGHT 2013 Kay Smith.

The Cat's Meow

11x9.5 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper with Daniel Smith paints; a cat who is busy talking a blue streak to someone, probably about his dinner.  In the photo which was black and white, the cat was actually a grey tabby, but I've used artistic license and made him black using all the darks on my palette except black.  I used quinacridone burnt orange, gold, violet, magenta; midnight blue, manganese blue, thalo green, ultramarine, alizarin crimson, green gold.  Happy Halloween, everybody!!!

Magic Garden Kitty

11x15 watercolor of Kathy's (from WetCanvas) black cat Juliet. I changed the background to be that of a magic garden atmosphere in which she is dreaming of her Romeo.
