Roping Horses

11x15 watercolor and India ink on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper done this afternoon.  The photo I used was a full body view of the cowboy's horse so I cropped into it quite a bit and edited out background and foreground clutter, then added an extra horse.  Splattering was done on the main horse when paint was drying so some spots are blended while others such as the black ink, are not.

Saddle Up!

12x18 watercolor of my brother's profile on a white horse, first painted 5 years ago and now doing more of these macro or cropped view closeups of western art. See Happy Trails image posted 10-17-10. My brother has this painting hanging in his O'Donnell, TX ranch house.

Happy Trails

11x15 watercolor, copyright 2010 Kay Smith, of my brother's backside. I changed the horse's color to white with grey tail instead of sorrel. This painting was done while in my New Mexico mountain studio cabin a few days ago.

Remember the theme song Roy Rogers and Dale Evans had for their TV show about happy trails?

After Vernita Bridges-Hoyt invited me to be part of her new blog about the Chisum or Chisholm Trail I realized I'd gotten away from doing much western art. So get ready! More is coming. To view Nita's new blog go to chisolmtrailart.blogspot.com/
