Dog and Boy at the Beach

6x8 watercolor on Masters Touch 140 lb cold press paper done over the past weekend as part of another WetCanvas event. Participants have 2 hours to select their image then render it. As hosted by Rousay, I cropped the ref photo to focus on the boy and dog playing and changed his swim trunks color from navy to red. COPYRIGHT 2023 Kay Smith

Booming Surf

6x6 quickie, brush only, done yesterday afternoon in about 20 minutes using a 1″ flat synthetic sable Liquitex brush and Daniel Smith watercolors. The surf is pounding the shore in this imaginary marine scape. When dry splatters using sepia and a mix of neutrals including Cheap Joe’s Coastal Fog completed the miniature 6×6″ in my Masters Touch sketchbook, 80 lb. paper. COPYRIGHT 2023 Kay Smith

Surf's Up!

17x40.5 acrylics on gessoed board done last week along with Yvette St. Amant's online Intermediate Abstracts course. Layering of colors was emphasized and I used white, cream, bisque, navy, medium grey, mint green. Mine was done in a horizontal format rather than vertical as this is going inside a bathroom window. Sea Sand Summer

11x4 mixed media on 140 lb cold press paper done today, the first day of August, a day I like to think of water, lakes, ocean, the sand and enjoy the rest of summer. I used acrylics to make marks on the paper then used a small palm tree ink stamp, and watercolor to fill in the background. More acrylics used at random with stencil. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

11x14 poured acrylics on canvas done yesterday in a class on the subject, very messy but worth the effort for this abstract seascape.  Silicone oil and Floetrol were mixed in the paint.  No brushes or predrawing.
