Black Cat at Midnight
9x7 watercolor using White Nights paints on sketchbook paper 80 lb in Master's Touch book, painted last week. The solid black cat's green eyes are all that can be seen except for highlighted hair in his fur. A real challenge, I may attempt him again but on black paper.

Politicians
22x15 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper. Using only black and white photos I drew each fur-person carefully then painted wet on dry using imagination. On right hand side with orange background is a Siamese and that is Jezebel, my first studio kitty.
It was hard to find a sleezy name and many nouns such as Scalawags (too doggish), Jailbait, Devils in Fur Coats, came to mind but politicians seemed to fit perfectly. The cute phrase Cats are Just Tiny Women in Cheap Fur Coats is different, too. I love the one wet kitty on the left. I hope the cat lovers admire this one as it took awhile to do.

Tom Cat and Leaves
5x9 watercolor on Fluid 140 lb cold press paper sketched yesterday and painted today. The tom cat photo was provided by fellow artist Dewi in Thailand and I've added my own fall leaves and elongated shadows. In the photo the fellow had only half his tail so with artistic license I've given him his lovely tail back.

Indoor Cat
12x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done recently of a mostly white cat with some black on its forehead, an imaginary scene of one kept inside, looking out and possibly wanting out. With this cat pet portrait I've tried to show some emotion the cat may be experiencing.

Sisterly Cat Love
5.5x8 watercolor and ink line done right before the year ended of another artist's two cats who are sisters. I did the ink sketch first and almost left it alone, but decided to add color to the lovely sweet furbabies.

What's New Pussycat?
11x15 watercolor and India ink on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper, painted this afternoon. I first sketched him in pencil then went over the lines with black ink. When almost dry I began laying in browns and golds wet on dry with 1" sable flat brush. This is Roger, a cat I had years ago, doing his thing: Sleeping! Colors used: Sepia, quinacridone burnt orange and gold, raw umber, UB, Coastal Fog, permanent rose.

Mad Cat
4x6 watercolor cat pet portrait on 140 lb Canson Montval paper with Daniel Smith paints, done today. This orange and white tabby is sure cranked up about something that is irritating him.

Orange Marmalade Kitty
5.5x9 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper drawn and painted last night then retouched and polished loose ends today. Part of WetCanvas! Weekend Drawing Event in which you have 2 hours to draw or paint your subject, this current WDE is hosted by Annie in Norfolk, UK. Her cat Ember, a gray mottled tortoiseshell, was the model, and I've morphed into an orange tabby, working only from a black and white copy. So no orange tabby photos used. This lets me pay very close attention to values.

White Cat "Sinatra" WIP Step 2
Step 2 of white cat named Sinatra showing soft edged delineation of his shoulder, legs, neck and back. Beginning background of a dark but rich tapestry frames behind his head and shoulder. This pet portrait will emphasize values on a white subject and how to paint fur. I dare not mess this up as those blue eyes are following my every move!
