One more glorious step towards the Young Avengers in the MCU! The Young Avengers comic is one of my favorite superhero team books of all time. In the story, the Avengers were missing and Vision initiated this failsafe protocol where a group of backup Avengers were gathered to form a replacement team. They are all young versions of the classic characters, often with some familial pedigree. Cassie Lang, the daughter of Scott Lang, joined the team as Stature. In the MCU and Disney+, there have been 8 or 9 Young Avengers characters introduced so far in unrelated projects. So, in my mind, a Young Avengers series or film is definitely coming. Cassie Lang has made a handful of MCU appearances, but it was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that we first met her as a young woman in a costumed role. She never adopts a codename in the movie, but in the comics she has been: Stature, Stinger, Ant-Girl, and Giant-Girl. I kind of hope she gets a new name to add to her collection. Black Panther Marvel Legends - OKOYE!
I love when Marvel Legends plans a female character as the Build-a-Figure for a wave. It's a pretty rare occurrence and I believe this Okoye is only the third. The first being 2015's Jubilee, and the Mantis from earlier this year. I appreciate that they find a way to squeeze in extra female characters, but so far they've seemed like very necessary characters who I would think would warrant a main spot in the wave. But I understand the tooling considerations and politics involved, plus I don't actually like having to splurge for an entire wave just to complete an additional figure. But when it comes to a spectacular figure like this Okoye, I'll do whatever it takes to get her in my greedy little paws. The new Hasbro method of using an advanced face-scanning for the movie figures is pretty amazing. Although I love seeing talented sculptors getting a chance to flex their artistic muscles, I can't argue with the results the machines are producing, especially if it means fast release schedules! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 - MANTIS!
One of the biggest surprises for me in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 was the heavy female presence. As popular as heroines have become in the print comics over the past few years, the movies have still been quite a boy's club. From all the advance merchandising, I had a clue that Ayesha and Mantis would have decent roles in the movie, but I had no idea that almost every scene would have such a strong female presence. Mantis is a character that has a bit of a convoluted history in the comics. Her origins, powers, and appearance have fluctuated quite a bit from her appearance in 1973. In the film, her origins are still a mystery, but her powers seems to be limited to empathy and telepathic suggestion. But considering how much they developed Nebula in her second film, I'm hoping we'll learn a lot more about Mantis in Avengers: Infinity War and GOTGv3 (both of which she's been cast in). This figure is extremely well made. The likeness and execution is practically perfect. Let's check out Mantis below!

Marvel X-men Legends Infinite Series - JUBILEE!
Jubilee has never been a favorite character of mine. When she first appeared I thought she was a cheap knock-off of Boom Boom, but then I quickly realized she was intended to be another Kitty Pryde-type character in the X-men roster. I thought she was silly and pretty much just ignored her until she became the focal point of X-men the Animated Series back in 1992. She was pretty hard to sweep under the rug at that point. But everyone seemed to love her so I tried to give her a shot. It took decades for me to warm up to her. Literally. It was while reading 2011's Wolverine and Jubilee mini-series that I finally saw what everyone else did. Of course at this point she was a vampire on the run with a kidnapped baby (which was a bizarre turn of events), but for the first time I enjoyed her. Of course I found that a quick way for that hard-earned respect to be rendered obsolete is to make her Legends figure a nearly-impossible-to-complete exclusive build-a-figure and then package her torso with the criminally shortpacked Storm. It was a frustrating, yet bountiful, year for Marvel Legends. Let's check out Jubilee below!
