One of my biggest theories for the recent Star Wars trilogy was that Rey would turn to the dark side and become a Sith lord. I love storylines where characters change their allegiances. My favorite Marvel heroes (Spider-Woman, Firestar, Rogue, Scarlet Witch, etc) all started out as villains. Even Polaris spent most of her early adventures on the wrong side of heroics (albeit through mind control). Going from good to bad is more rare, but in some ways it's more exciting. I just had a hunch when we first met Rey that she might go bad. Then in the lead-up to The Rise of Skywalker, two things happened that seemingly solidified my theory. First, the Second Sister Inquisitor figure was teased, and I thought it was Rey in Kylo-Ren-esque armor (but alas, it wasn't her). Second, a trailer showed Rey in a dark cloak with red light saber. I was so excited. Of course, we all now know that was a pretty misleading dream sequence. But either way she makes for a cool toy. Let's check out Dark Side Vision Rey below!

The Rise of Skywalker - REY!
I have had this review sitting as a draft for about 14 months. Back in Fall of 2019 when I purchased and photographed this Rey, I was a little burnt out on Star Wars figures, especially Rey. Don't get me wrong, I loved all the new movies and I adore Rey, but I have posted a lot of reviews for this character. And although this specific figure was a big technical improvement over most of its predecessors, the articulation was identical to other Black Series figures and this costume was already the subject of 9 Rey posts (of 14). But some real incentive came today when I was editing pics for an even newer Rey figure (the Dark Side Vision version) and I saw this old post still sitting as a draft. I'm a little obsessive about having posts like these be in the correct order so there was no more procrastinating. This Rey is mostly notable for her face sculpt. Hasbro is constantly upping their game with face scanning/printing technology, and this is easily the best Daisy Ridley likeness so far. Let's check out Rey below!

Galaxy of Adventures - REY!
I'm unexpectedly ecstatic about this new Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures line from Hasbro. I am only vaguely aware of the Disney animated mini-episodes featuring an assortment of the most popular Star Wars characters. Last year I noticed the tie-in wave of 3.75" figures on the shelves in tubes with animated-style graphics. But the figures inside seemed like the same old style I had seen a million times. But then a couple days ago I came across this new 5" impressively articulated, adorably stylized series of figures at Target. I love how Rey has this mischievous grin and big ears. It's almost as if Hasbro was as let-down by the Toy Box Rey as I was and decided to give us an apology figure. I can't wait to see what future characters will be included. At the very least I know we'll see a Leia since she is featured in so many of the Galaxy of Adventures illustrations. I'm excited for what other surprise releases we'll see this time next week on Force Friday. I'm already planning out my hunting route. Let's check out Rey below!

Star Wars 6" Last Jedi - REY (ISLAND JOURNEY)!
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. During NY Toy Fair week it seems that every time I sit down at my computer I end up Googling for new reveals or unauthorized photos for hours and before I know it I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. It's a frantic and obsessive few days for me and it's honestly getting worse every year. But alas, I'm back to normal now (until SDCC of course) and really itching to get back into regular posting. I picked up this new Rey figure in Target a couple weekends ago and I'm really impressed with the new face sculpt. I thought the Jedi Training Rey was really great, but in comparison it's honestly pretty weak. It should be really interesting to see if things improve even more when Episode Nine comes out. I wonder if we'll see Rey in a sleek all-black outfit like Luke wore in Return of the Jedi. I feel like her costumes have really paralleled Luke's in the original trilogy so far so it's not a crazy thought. This is the fifth 6" Black Series Rey so far, and it's definitely my favorite. Star Wars Toybox - REY!
I'm kind of excited to see what the future of this new Disney Toybox series brings. While I'm not a huge fan of the stylistic design of this Rey figure, some of of the other Infinity characters looked pretty cool. So far, the sculpts of the Toybox figures have been based off the Disney Infinity video game collectible figurines. I always thought a lot of the character designs looked really weird and angry, like this Rey for example. But other characters, like Captain Marvel, Spider-Gwen, Gamora, and White Tiger look pretty awesome. The insert inside the packaging hint at ten additional figures on the horizon (spread across all three branches of the line: Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars) and four of them appear to be female. The production quality is really great so my hopes are high for some fun new figures. I bought this Rey just to check out the articulation and overall quality, and I'm very impressed. The plastic has a certain animated quality to its texture that's hard to explain. Can't wait to see what's next. Let's check out Rey below!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi 12" - REY (JEDI TRAINING)!
I have a small backlog of Star Wars reviews to post and I'm desperately trying to get them all posted before The Last Jedi hits theatres this weekend. There have been times when I used to post almost every day and I have no clue how I did it. But considering I'm about to enter my seventh year doing this blog there were bound to be some changes. I no longer live in a third floor walkup alone with excessive personal time, I have somehow accumulated a massive amount of responsibility at work, and I actually get tired now. Don't get me wrong, I'm still up past 2am most nights of the week, but I used to be a 4am guy. I've had this 12" Last Jedi Rey photographed since the day after Force Friday, but I've always been more excited to post about something else, so poor Rey gets pushed to the back burner again and again. But this is truly a nice looking 12" figure. The face and body proportions have been improved slightly since the Force Awakens figure and the result it terrific. Let's check her out (finally)!

Star Wars Elite Series - REY (JEDI TRAINING)!
I am really growing quite fond of the the Disney Store exclusive Star Wars: Elite Series die-cast action figures. I'm sure they don't sell a fraction as well as the similarly scaled 6" Black Series toys from Hasbro, but that doesn't seem to stop them from being produced. I got scared when I saw a ton of Elite figures (mostly Rogue One) on clearance for just $5.99 earlier this Summer, but sure enough they still pushed out a Last Jedi line for Force Friday. I hope the line stays successful because I would love a Leia or two and some Ewoks, if not a whole slew of Expended Universe female Jedis. (Also, I think a Marvel line like this would sell like hotcakes). This Rey figure is a major improvement over the Force Awakens version. The face in particular looks a thousand times more like Daisy Ridley then the first figure. I wonder if they are using the same new face-scanning techniques that Hasbro is now employing. Star Wars 6" Black Series - REY (JEDI TRAINING)!
If you asked me a month ago if I was going to dive deep into the Last Jedi merchandise, I probably would have said no. But then a few more interesting figures were slowly announced and my interest stirred up a little. Then the final nail in the coffin was my friend Brad wanting to do Force Friday midnight shopping. For those of you who haven't partaken in the event, it's like Black Friday for nerds and it's wonderful. I love Star Wars as a property, but I have never been fanatical about collecting the toys. Yet if you get me lined up outside a store at midnight with a bunch of fans, you will see how quickly I assimilate and fill my shopping cart with cool stuff. I was honestly planning on skipping this Rey - mostly because I thought she looked too similar to my Force Awakens figures, but in person I could see the differences and improvements and couldn't resist. Now I must put the brakes on before I double my Rey collection, but it's really hard when you see the quality first hand. Let's check out Last Jedi Rey below!

Star Wars Die-Cast - REY & CAPTAIN PHASMA!
I have a real fondness for 1:28 scale figures. They remind me of the 80s so much: DinoRiders, M.A.S.K., Starriors, Air Raider, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, StarCom, there's probably more but I forget. It was a unique scale at the time and I ate it all up. So fast-forward to a couple weeks ago when I was in San Franciso for work and stopped into the Super7 store (and spent wayyyy too much money). My favorite discovery were the diecast miniature Force Awakens figure from TakaraTomy. I have lots of tiny figures, and lots of diecast figures, but aside from my Eagle Force Goldie Hawk, these are my only combination of the two. So far the only females are Rey and Captain Phasma. But with so many Rogue One figures in the set, I'm sure we'll see a Jyn Erso eventually. Not to mention the matriarch Leia. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for more now that I know they exist, but in the nature of most imported toys, I'm sure any future figures will totally sneak up on me. Star Wars The Force Awakens - REY!
There has been an interesting trend in recent years where the big toy companies (Mattel, Hasbro, Bandai, etc) have been maximizing their profit potential by offering lesser-quality versions of their hot sellers to discount stores. These assortments almost never include female figures so I haven't paid much attention. But then I was strolling through Big Lots back in November (the day after election day if I recall correctly) and I found this pretty stunning little figure for $6. She only has four points of articulation (neck, shoulders, and waist), but she has a unique scale (somewhere between the 5.5" Black Series and the 6" Elite Series), and a great sculpt. I'll totally keep my eyes peeled for similar figures in the future. I've read a lot of vitriol aimed at these figures from the collecting community, but you won't hear that from me. I think they're pretty sweet. In fact, if they do a Leia I'll be ecstatic since it will probably have only sculpted clothing (Yay for no cloth!). Let's check out the limited articulation Rey below!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 12" - REY (JAKKU)!
I didn't realize this figure had been released until I saw a listing for a 12" Jyn Erso before Force Friday and wondered if there had even been a Rey. There were a ton of her on eBay for way too much money, so I never thought I would get her. Half the joy is the low price point (they are often under $10). But then I found her in a K-Mart a week later and instantly snatched her up. I'm glad I did, too, because despite a few minor paint flaws, this figure is by far the best I've seen. Post Force Friday, I've seen this figure stocked in a lot of stores, but there is something really wrong with the paint on 90% of them. Like the flesh color is decomposing into a white powder. This will probably mean the good ones will be hard to get. If you're hunting her, try looking at K-Mart since they appear to still have earlier production batches. I picked up the Jyn Erso the other day and will be reviewing her shortly. Hopefully they make a classic Leia someday. But for now, let's check out this 1:6 Rey below!

Galactic Heroes - REY (RESISTANCE OUTFIT)!
For some reason this little figure made me very excited for the next sequential Star Wars film due in 2017. Rogue One looks like it will be a great movie which will totally tide me over, but I'm itching to know what happens next with Rey, Finn, Poe and BB-8. This second Galactic Hero version of Rey features her Resistance outfit that she wore at the end of Force Awakens. It's nice to see that Playskool is continuing to produce new figures after the initial burst of products last fall and winter. In fact, I just saw images of a new (Unhelmeted) Poe and BB-8 2-Pack due out soon. In the meantime though, the only additional female figure on the horizon is a Hera Syndulla (due out any day now apparently). But that's not to say there won't be more unannounced additions. That has kind of been the pattern with recent collectible preschool lines. Maybe we'll get a random Leia and Ahsoka Tano. And then maybe the Marvel line will get on board and we'll finally see a Gamora or Scarlet Witch. I can dream. Let's check out Rey!

Galactic Heroes - REY & CAPTAIN PHASMA!
Sometimes these preschool brands take a long time to jump on the gender equality bandwagon. This current style of preschool Star Wars figures has been around for 5 years (despite a name change), and this two pack represents the first females in the line in all that time. Of course, when it rains it pours and we just saw a Hera Syndulla figure shown at Toy Fair. Plus I'm willing to bet we'll see a Maz, ME-8D9, Wren, and a Leia in the future. Playskool has been doing its best to confuse collectors with their Star Wars lines over the past 14 years. There have been two unique iterations each of "Galactic Heroes" and "Jedi Force." And just last year they upped the ante by rebranding a line (with a recycled name) four years into its run. I'm going to go into detail later on in this post because there is a lot of confusion. Rest assured though, this Rey and Phasma 2-pack are the first Star Wars females in this style (but hopefully not the last!) Let's check out Rey (Jakku) and Captain Phasma in detail below!

Star Wars 3.75" Black Series - REY (JAKKU)!
In all the hub-bub leading up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I was never able to find a 3.75" Rey in the stores. I heard woeful stories from many a Dad trying desperately to find a Rey figure before Christmas. It's a shame there wasn't more product on the shelves leading up to the holidays. I personally didn't find this figure until January 8th, so I feel your pain. There are actually two 3.75" Rey figures (so far) in her Jakku outfit. The other version (the "Starkiller Base" version) is slightly shorter and much less articulated, but at a quick glance they are very similar figures. From the comparisons I've seen online though, I think I made the right choice in grabbing this one. It should be interesting to see what new costumes Rey gets in the upcoming films. Like Leia, I think she's destined to have a variety of unique looks throughout the course of the series. So because of that hunch, I'm going to slow down my Rey purchases. Star Wars Elite Series - REY!
As I type this, there are thousands of geeks sitting in the theatre getting their first glimpse at The Force Awakens. I'm not going to get a chance to see it until next week at the earliest, but I'm still super excited. I watched a bunch of cast interviews this afternoon on YouTube and they made me really curious about the character Rey. Based on some of J.J. Abrams' and Carrie Fisher's comments, it sounds as if Rey is the focal point of the film. Of course, most people know the truth of that by this point, but I'm still in the joyous speculation phase. This Elite Series figure eluded me for many months after I missed her on Force Friday. I felt like a crazy person calling my Disney Store every Monday after they got their shipments in. That never panned out, but one day I randomly stopped in a different location and she was the lone figure sitting on the shelf. Things always seem to work out one way or another. Star Wars 6" Black Series - REY!
Rey is shaping up to be the main female protagonist in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film. She's featured prominently in the teaser trailers, she's in all the magazine photoshoots, there are Halloween costumes of her trickling into the stores, and best of all, she's already received (at least) four action figures! Yeah, so although not much in known about her, she's pretty much guaranteed to be the Leia/Padme of the new movies. This 6" Black Series figure was one of only two items I was able to snag on Force Friday. My version has pretty reprehensible paint masking - which unfortunately seems to be a common problem. It's especially noticeable along her hairline. By the end of this review, I had succumbed to temptation and touched up the hair with brown paint. It's a shame the Hasbro QC is so inconsistent. Marvel Legends has been practically perfect, but Star Wars and G.I.Joe has been sloppy. Hopefully things improve for future waves. Let's check out Rey in detail below!
