This figure sent me on a crazy internet-searching frenzy this week. When I was photographing this figure, I had the sudden realization that she looked exactly like Sarah Michelle Gellar. This idea got so implanted in my head that I couldn't unsee it and created the (fictional) idea that Gellar was possibly considered for the role before Hathaway was cast. We see a fair amount of toys that are based on pre-production design, so my theory had merit (in my mind). Alas, I was wrong and the likeness is just a coincidence. But, wow, there is a lot of fancasting out there for Gellar in the role of Catwoman. For a long time, this S.H.Figuarts figure from Bandai was the nicest DKR Catwoman out there. She has great textural details, excellent articulation, and perfect proportions. Plus she was the victim of some bizarre merchandising practices and was heavily clearanced at GameStop for $30. This purchase started my obsession Mafex, S.H.Figuarts, and Figma (which I had always avoided). Let's check out Catwoman below!

S.H.Figuarts - YELLOW RANGER!
Bandai's S.H.Figuarts line is arguably the best high-end collector action figure on the market today. The most direct competitor is the Figma series from Max Factory, but their character selection rarely expands into Western pop culture. Hot Toys and Play Arts Kai are amazing, but their scale and price exclude them from a lot of collections. S.H.Figuarts, however, wins on almost all levels. They are affordable at anywhere in the $30-60 range. Their 5-6" scale fits in nicely with most modern action figures. And their licences are fantastic: Sailor Moon, Super Mario Bros, Megaman, DC Injustice, and of course the Power Rangers (among others). This Mighty Morphin Power Rangers line may be the first widely-distributed figures seen in US stores, but I've been drooling over all the different Ranger iterations for years. Just go to eBay and search for "SHFiguarts Pink" and you'll be tempted by the variations too. But before you head down that eBay spiral, let's check out this ultra-articulated Trini below!

S.H.Figuarts - SAILOR MOON!
So I've been writing this blog (and loving it) for a little over three years now. I started it not knowing if I would find an audience, and frankly not really caring if I did. I was doing it for me. I love this hobby and when I realized there was a gap in the female action figure representation online, my hobby naturally extended out of my toy cave and onto the internet. It's been a lot of fun and I hit new thresholds all the time. Last week was another first. An amazing reader of this blog sent me a package full of fantastic action figures. You are an absolute star, James! Opening that box made me feel more appreciated than I would have expected. The first of several reviews from this gift box is the S.H.Figuarts Sailor Moon from Bandai. I have a thing for Magical Girl series. I've done reviews of Winx and W.I.T.C.H. figures in the past, and it's always bugged me that I had no representation of Sailor Moon in my collection. That problem is definitely remedied now though! Photos from NYCC 2014!
If I was to be perfectly honest, I would have to say that this year's New York ComicCon was the most disappointing toy-wise than it has been in a long long time. There was a lack of vendors. Mattel was absent; Hasbro is continuing the tradition of setting up shop several blocks away (and by appointment only); and DCC showed us nothing new. And on top of that, my favorite small vendor seemed to be a no-show as well. This is a booth that usually has tons of large bins of loose action figures in little baggies. You have to be patient to get close enough because this booth magically turns everyone into kids digging for buried treasure. I always look forward to spending a good hour there, and I was sad that I couldn't find it (although it may have been there for all I know.. I was an unplanned mess this year tbh). Despite my overall disappointment on the toy front, I still enjoyed myself and found a few great gems to share. Let's check them out below!

The Women of AKIBARANGER!
Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger is a popular spoof of the decades long Super Sentai Series from Japan (aka Power Rangers). This 2012 parody series is geared toward adults who were fans of Sentai as children. In short summary, the three main characters are cosplayers who fight bad guys (which are figments of their imagination), of course, the bad guys begin to take real form and the zany action skyrockets from there. Bandai's S.H.Figuarts is an amazing high-quality, competitively priced action figure line. The amount of detail, accessories, and poseability is unparalleled at an under-$50 pricepoint. The prices can be inflated depending on where they are exporting to, but for the most part they are pretty reasonable for the level of collectible you're getting. The character design in Akibaranger is spectacular. I love the armored hair. I love the clear chestpieces. I love the fun alterations on the standard Sentai look. I love it all.
