Lady Jaye has always seemed like one of the simpler characters to be made into a cartoon-accurate toy. She has a classic 2-tone green military uniform, a short haircut, and her signature weapon is a classic (looking) javelin. But her first figure inexplicably had a hat, a single-color bright green uniform, and they turned her simple javelin into some sort of gun. It was still a great toy and probably the best of the vintage female figures, but you never realize how off it was until you see this new Super7 ReAction+ version. Before this, the closest thing to a vintage-style cartoon-accurate Lady Jaye was her 5th version from 2006, but that was in the era where all the figures had disproportionately small heads. This new figure is perfection. It makes me excited to see their take on an update Scarlett - who suffered the most from the limitations of the 80's toy design. If this Lady Jaye and the previous Jinx are any indication, she will be great. Let's check out this classic Lady Jaye below!

Super7 ReAction - LADY JAYE (DIC)!
This figure has been a long time coming. In 1989, when DIC Enterprises took over production of the new G.I.Joe cartoons, all the main characters got redecos (Some more extreme than the others). The main female trifecta of Scarlett, Baroness and Lady Jaye all had simple color swap changes from the Sunbow designs. Eventually the new Baroness and Scarlett designs were reflected in the Hasbro toy lines, but Lady Jaye was not invited to the party. Perhaps it's because her muted-green DIC design was too similar to her classic army greens, or maybe it's because her action figure was already being re-released in camo and stealth versions, but either way, the new design was never represented in plastic until now. I found this figure last Sunday at Target. The news of her didn't hit the toy sites until the next day, so it was a true shock when I saw her on the shelf. Her Ultimates figure in this deco was unfortunately canceled, so I'm glad Super7 was able to get her out in some form. Let's check out Lady Jaye below!

G.I.Joe Classified - LADY JAYE!
Lady Jaye is probably my favorite G.I.Joe character. Even though I love outlandish costumes and gimmicks in my adventure properties, Lady Jaye stands out as being one of the few characters in a military unit that is actually wearing army greens. Typically I would find this boring, but like me and my lack of tattoos, the normalcy makes her a standout among her edgy peers. I also love that she's butch. I feel like they amplified her relationship with Flint and even had a full episode of her running around in a pink frilly nightgown just to soften her, but you couldn't disguise how tough she was. She also managed to convince me that exploding javelins were a standard weapon like the guns, crossbows, and swords the rest of the characters were wielding. She was iconic. This Retro Card repaint of her Classified figure is a nice variation. Her green outfit is a brighter hue like her vintage toy and her face paint is better. Her missing hairpiece is the only real downside. Let's check out Lady Jaye below!

Super7 ReAction - LADY JAYE!
Lady Jaye is my favorite Joe. I like that she dresses in traditional military greens, but she has a super-unique arsenal of weaponized javelins. She also is super tough and no-nonsense (dare I say butch?). I feel like her relationship with Flint was exaggerated to soften her sometimes abrasive demeanor, but it didn't detract from her heroics, rather it gave her more depth and made me like her even more. My problem lies with the fact that so many of her toys are wearing a hat. Hats are fine. I wear hats all the time. But I've never seen Lady Jaye wear a hat in the cartoon, so this bothered me immensely. I can handle discrepancies between cartoon and toy with costumes and accessories. It's just inevitable. But when you mess with the head and hair, it's really hard for me to overlook. This Super7 ReAction figure perfectly captures her animated look and is probably is the best looking Lady Jaye figure ever produced. But I expect the upcoming Ultimates figure will steal that title. G.I.Joe Classified - LADY JAYE!
Lady Jaye was the first real tough girl I admired as a kid. Other characters had their moments of fierceness, but they always reverted to damsel mode far too often. But Lady Jaye seemed tough to the core. She's even tough in that weird episode where she finds out she's related to Destro and spends most of the episode running around his haunted castle in a pink nightgown. I also really enjoyed her relationship with Flint. It was taunting and playful and very unlike the other relationships in the show. When I think about G.I.Joe, one of the most iconic images in my head is of Lady Jaye in battle and how she would attach a weaponized head to her javelin and toss it. I was never very impressed with guns. I'm more a lightsaber and crossbow kinda guy. And this javelin thing was a whole new type of weaponry to obsess over. I also remember her filecard saying she went to Bryn Mawr College, which I lived just a few hours from. Just one more reason I always felt a connection to her. Let's check out Lady Jaye below!

KRE-O G.I.Joe LADY JAYE (with Lego Hair)!
As much as I have been loving the Kre-O mini-figures over the past few years, a major bone of contention for me has been the hairpieces for the G.I.Joe ladies. Scarlett's hair was a masculine looking bit of plastic that barely stayed on her head and Baroness's hair is ill-formed and keeps "squeezing together" to rise up off of her scalp. The most recent travesty has been Lady Jaye: who just doesn't come with hair at all. Instead she comes with her trademark cap that her vintage figure wore (despite the fact that any hat-wearing interpretations of Jaye have always had plenty of her signature brown wisps showing from underneath). This Kreon version is just weak. Way back when I reviewed Scarlett and Jinx, a reader mentioned that people have been using Lego parts to replace Scarlett's awful hairpiece. Luckily I remembered this and immediately began searching for a good hairpiece for Lady Jaye. It took a lot of research, but I think I hit the jackpot. G.I.Joe: Retaliation's LADY JAYE!
Lady Jaye has always been my favorite female Joe. She was consistently just as tough as the boys, she threw exploding javelins, and her outfit was much less "costumey" than most of her teammates. She also had a secondary talent as a master of disguise (which according to the blurb on the cardback, it looks like she utilizes in this upcoming film). What's not to love? In the movie she is played by Adrianne Palicki, who most of geekdom knows as Wonder Woman from the cancelled 2011 NBC show. I'm excited to see her take on the character. She looks very different from her cartoon counterpart, but not in a bad way, just different. This action figure is pretty decent. She comes with tons of accessories (but no stand), she re-uses the body of Renegades Scarlett (which is an amazingly articulated figure), but unfortunately the head suffers from an odd sculpt and overly-simplified paint. This is a shame since most (if not all) of the accessories are re-used and the body is a straight-up repaint of Scarlett. So the head is the only thing they needed to put effort into.
