My post of Leela (as Clobberella) from Futurama last month made me think of other toys I might have of Katey Sagal. I have a figure somewhere of her signature Peg Bundy role, but I forgot about this Sons of Anarchy Gemma that I picked up years ago on clearance when all the Toys R Us stores were closing. Sons of Anarchy was a show on FX that aired 92 episodes over 7 seasons from 2008-2014. I don't usually watch violent television dramas (like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Justified, The Wire, etc). I get that it's a super popular genre, but I just gravitate towards sci-fi and comedy. I've been tempted to start watching this show several times over the years purely because of the cast, but even the few YouTube clips I watched tonight while typing this reconfirm that I don't have a stomach for violence and crime. But at least I can appreciate that there was enough of a cultural impact to inspire a cool toyline and get another Katey figure in my collection. Let's check out Gemma below!

Mezco 5 Points - LOIS LANE!
If you have never watched the Fleischer Studios Superman series from 1941-1942, I highly suggest you do. Although people generally refer to this as a television series, they were actually a series of nine 10-minute theatrical shorts (Household televisions wouldn't become common until the mid 50s). There is a stark art deco style similar to Edward Hopper and other realists on the 1940s. The influence of this series can be seen in the works of later animation powerhouses like Hayao Miyazaki and Bruce Timm. And even in the past twelve months we've see three representations of the Fleischer Superman design in the toy aisles. The first of which was this Mezco 5 Points "The Mechanical Monsters" box set which thankfully included Lois Lane. Lois has had a ton of designs over the years. She is a plainclothed character, so no single look was necessarily iconic. But to me, this brown, green, and yellow skirtsuit will always be the best. But I'm always partial to retro aesthetic. Mezco 5 Points - BTAS CATWOMAN!
I have a lot of hope for the Mezco 5 Points line. I only own four currently, but I really appreciate the quality sculpts and solid feel of the figures. They are more expensive and less-articulated than similar retro-inspired lines, but there is something I find super appealing about the character selection and final product. This Batman the Animated Series line breaks some new barriers by offering individually-carded figures in wonderfully retro packaging. Previous releases were only offered as convention exclusives or in large playsets (The Julie Newmar Catwoman was released in a 7-pack with a Batmobile for $130). I'm looking forward to the Harley Quinn in Series 2, but sad for (seemingly) cancelled Josie and the Pussycats and Birdman figures. I truly think the single-carded business model will increase sales and popularity for the line. I'm certainly more excited now. I hope to see more BTAS ladies, as well as all the Burton and Schumacher characters. Let's check out the BTAS Catwoman below!

Mezco 5 Points - CATWOMAN!
In the next 30 days I'm predicting the announcement of a Julie Newmar Catwoman from McFarlane Toys. And based on the Eartha Kitt figure we already got in that line, I'm expecting this to be the pinnacle Julie Newmar Catwoman toy. In the meantime, I would say that high honor belongs to the recent Mezco 5 Points Catwoman from the Batman Classic TV Series box set. This collection has an intimidating price point at $139, but I find it's very much worth the price. Included are seven 1:12 scale figures (six of which have alternate heads), a great Batmobile, and a detailed cardboard diorama of the Batcave (interior) and Wayne Manor (exterior). I picked up the whole set plus an extra Catwoman on eBay to display both heads. This figure easily has the best Julie Newmar likeness so far, although not perfect. But I have a hunch she has a face that's hard to capture. We should see how McFarlane fares soon enough. I'm very excited. Let's check out Catwoman below!

Mini Mez-Itz - GOTHAM CITY VILLAINS!
Back in 2013 there was a"Girls of Gotham" Mini Mez-Itz set shown at Toy Fair. This set marked the first time we would have seen Poison Ivy and Batgirl in this format and I was very excited. But then the street dates came and went with no products on the shelves. Eventually Batgirl and Poison Ivy were released individually at conventions and I assumed we would never see a box set like it. Then I randomly stumbled across this set at Barnes and Noble last week. This lineup actually makes me happier than the original Gotham Girls set because the redecos are significant enough to make my want them all. Catwoman is a purple repaint of the comic version, Poison Ivy is her classic comic deco (i.e. normal fleshtone and no vines), and Harley has a new puckering face and a noticeably brighter red paintjob. I'm not usually a sucker for color variations, but these hit all my buttons. Hopefully this bodes well for lots of future Mini Mez-Itz on the shelves. Let's check out these three ladies below!

Suicide Squad Mez-Itz - HARLEY QUINN & KATANA!
Mezco has been making me nervous lately with their dwindling displays of Mini Mez-itz at shows and conventions. I get that their One:12 Collective has become their new flagship line and between them and the tried and true Living Dead Dolls, Mez-Itz are kind of lost in the shuffle. But I love these things so much that I raise my hopes every time. Luckily this Suicide Squad pack and an unexpected Gotham Villains set showed up in the past week to satiate me for a good year or so. I'm hoping they start doing Batman the Animated Series or the rest of the 1990's Batman films. All I know is that I want a lot more Batman characters in this format. This Suicide Squad set is especially interesting to me because these are the first figures I've bought that have had accessories (Harley's baseball bat and Katana's katana). This makes me think the line is evolving which makes me very happy. I can't wait to see what the future holds. Let's check out Harley Quinn and Katana below!

Mini Mez-Itz Batman Returns CATWOMAN!
I love Mini Mez-Itz. The only trick to collecting them is harnessing your inner patience. It seems like the average figure gets delayed multiple times - sometime years late. But they almost always come out eventually (the only exception has been a few minor variants, like the unmasked Batman '66 Catwoman and Riddler). This Batman Returns Box Set was originally slated for last September, and honestly a delay of eight months is not that bad compared to previous waits. This is now the 4th (distinctly) different Catwoman Mez-Itz released (I say distinctly because there's a slightly redecoed comic-version Catwoman out there that I don't count). I'm hoping now that we'll get a BTAS version next. The only remaining Bat-lady on the horizon is a Suicide Squad Harley Quinn due out this Summer (supposedly). Although with the deadline of the movie's opening date, they may actually make it out on time. In the meantime, let's check out this awesome Batman Returns Catwoman Mini Mez-Itz below!

Mortal Kombat - KITANA!
Fighting games don't have a good track record for sensible female costumes. Fetish lingerie with boots seems to be the status quo. (How this ever became the standard getup for a formidable female warrior boggles the mind). Mortal Kombat X is the sixteenth game featuring Kitana. I haven't played video games in years, but I was definitely a gamer 22 years ago when Kitana made her first appearance. To be honest, the girls in the early years of Mortal Kombat kind of annoyed me. This is mostly because they were just multi-hued versions of the same character. Jade, Mileena, and Kitana reminded me of the Chipmunks with their minimal color-coded differences. I wanted variety dammit! Over the years their looks have evolved independently into the impractical mass of straps we see today. Don't get me wrong, this action figure is really well made and looks great. And I don't regret picking her up for a second. I just think no fighter would be caught dead trying to spar in this outfit. Mezco Mini Mez-Itz Keychain - POISON IVY!
I've been waiting for this little green vixen for years. I've become a big fan of Mezco's Mini Mez-Itz format since I bought my first Catwoman keychain back in 2012. Unfortunately the release schedule for figures is painfully slow. We first saw Poison Ivy on display at Toy Fair 2013 - supposedly in a "Girls of Gotham" 4-pack to be released in August 2013. Needless to say that never happened. The Batgirl and Harley Quinn were eventually released singly (as convention exclusives and blind boxes). So the only missing lady was little Miss Isley. Luckily the fine folks at Mezco found a way to get her to us as a 2015 SDCC exclusive (you can easily order her at mezcotoyz.com). Now my Gotham Girls are finally complete! I'm really excited about this. Now we just have to endure the long wait for the Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman supposed due early in 2016. We'll see about that though. Mini Mez-Itz Batman '66 CATWOMAN!
I've fallen in love with Mezco's adorably weird Mini Mez-Itz toys. I now own five and I'm looking forward to getting many more (Girls of Gotham set, I'm talking about you). I'm especially excited about this particular figure because she marks the third Catwoman in the series (and as I'm always fond of saying, "it takes three to make a collection"). I first saw these figures several years ago at Toy Fair and I've been nervous about getting them ever since. I've never known Mezco to show a product and not release it, but for some reason the Mini Mez-Itz can have some crazy delays. I'm constantly getting press release information about their Living Dead Dolls and Breaking Bad toys, but the Mez-Itz kind of fly under the radar until they surprise you in the toy aisles. Also, the supply of Julie Newmar Catwoman products seems to be dwindling down lately, so any new representation of this look are much appreciated. Photos from NYCC 2014!
If I was to be perfectly honest, I would have to say that this year's New York ComicCon was the most disappointing toy-wise than it has been in a long long time. There was a lack of vendors. Mattel was absent; Hasbro is continuing the tradition of setting up shop several blocks away (and by appointment only); and DCC showed us nothing new. And on top of that, my favorite small vendor seemed to be a no-show as well. This is a booth that usually has tons of large bins of loose action figures in little baggies. You have to be patient to get close enough because this booth magically turns everyone into kids digging for buried treasure. I always look forward to spending a good hour there, and I was sad that I couldn't find it (although it may have been there for all I know.. I was an unplanned mess this year tbh). Despite my overall disappointment on the toy front, I still enjoyed myself and found a few great gems to share. Let's check them out below!

Mezco Mini Mez-Itz Keychain - HARLEY QUINN!
Harley Quinn is amazing. I've always been a little biased towards the lady villains, but to me she is so much more interesting than her main man Joker. I just picked up the introductory issue of her new ongoing comic series this week and I'm excited to see a new side of her (I haven't really paid any attention to her in the New 52 yet). I'm really digging her new "rollergirl" look, but these classic court jester duds will always be my favorite. I bought this keychain at NYCC 2013 from the Mezco booth. I think it was a convention exclusive, but I can't verify that and there isn't any indication on the packaging. As I've stated in past reviews, I always chop off the keychain apparatus right away. I'm way too impatient to wait for the regular versions to be released. This Harley Quinn Mini Mez-Itz is the first of two versions that will be made, the second version has a closed mouth with a winking eye and will be released in the DC Universe Blind Box assortments (already showing up on eBay). Mezco Mini Mez-Itz Keychain - BATGIRL!
Mezco Mini Mez-Itz are one of my favorite designer collectibles on the market. There are so many good choices out there today; Funko POP, Lego, Mini-Mates, etc, etc - but these Mini Mez-Itz are really holding their own. I secretly gauge the momentum of a toy line by the characters they produce - yes, I know every collector probably does this - but I base my judgement on willingness to produce multiple versions of the same character. Usually this ends up being Catwoman. Funko POP has two, Lego has two (almost identical), Mini-Mates has one, but Mini Mez-Itz has two with an additional two on the horizon. The momentum is definitely impressive. Plus the upcoming Poison Ivy and Harleys are really going to round-out the bat-family roster. The only downside to these figures is that Mezco seems to have a pattern of initially releasing them as keychains at conventions, with non-keychain versions released much later. I'm impatient. But I dislike keychains. Luckily I have an Xacto blade and a wide array of Dremel bits.

Mega-Scale ThunderCats CHEETARA!
This giant lady pushed my little photo tent to its limits this week. I also have no idea where to display her in my collection. She measures in at 14" tall and all my Ikea shelves fall woefully short of that stature. Regardless of my shock over her height, this figure is stunning. The original design for Cheetara has never had a new figure until this release. Yes, the new ThunderCats figures were great and the new designs were cool, but nothing can ever top a classic 80's look. I've been tempted by the Mega-scale figures since they first started appearing in TRU a few years ago. But the only thing holding me back was the uncertainty of a Cheetara release. Of course, now the old ones are too pricey. Sigh. Maybe now they'll make a Pumyra so she's not the only tall girl at the party. These figures are nicely made. She seems to be rotocast in a sturdy hollow vinyl and features ten points of articulation. Her leg articulation doesn't offer much variation if you want her to keep standing, but the arms and head can actually work together to give you a lot of different looks. Let's check her out below!

Mini Mez-Itz Variant HARLEY QUINN Revealed!
I was very excited to find this fun variant of the Harley Quinn Mini Mez-Itz figure that we saw at Toy Fair 2013. The Gotham Girls set seen at the show is due in August 2013 and includes the SDCC 12 Catwoman, a new Batgirl, a new Poison Ivy, and a Harley Quinn with a wide grin. Today on Mezco's site, I saw the solicitation image for the first wave of DC Universe Mini Mez-Itz Blindbox figures due out in September 2013. Included among the ten figures are two Harleys. The Gotham girls version is actually the rarer of the two with a 7% inclusion rate. However, a new winking/smirking version is the more common figure at 14%. These figures should be priced at approximately $5.50 each. I wasn't a fan of Mez-Itz at the start, and I still haven't plunged in with the 6" larger figures, but these 2" Mini Mez-Itz are really hard to resist. I only have the two Catwomen figures so far, but there's no way I'm not going to get my hands on all these new ladies. Let's check out the pics below!

ThunderCats Mega-Scale CHEETARA Revealed!
Toy news is always a little stale leading up to Toy Fair. You get occasional announcements, but for the most part, the time between Christmas and NYTF in February is the duldrums of this hobby. That's why I was doubly excited to find this beautiful Cheetara action figure listed on BigBadToyStore today. I love love love Cheetara and we've been teased with a lot of products lately that we will likely never see. Bandai mentioned an 8" classic Cheetara as the final figure in the line, but we haven't heard anything in roughly 18 months so I'm assuming it's scrapped. Pop Culture Shock had released images of a decent Cheetara statue earlier this year that has also now been cancelled. These Mega-Scale ThunderCats figures from Mezco are pretty awesome. I see them at Toys'R Us all the time. They are 14" tall with roughly 10 points of articulation and usually run from $30-$40. So far we have, Lion-O, Panthro, & Mumm-Ra (with variants of Mumm-Ra & Lion-O). Cheetara is due in June 2013 and I can't wait!

Two CATWOMAN Mez-Itz!
I swore a long time I would never buy any cutesy, Super-Deformed, Urban/Vinyl toys. They weren't "serious" enough for me and they just looked silly. Years later I have a small shelf dedicated to these little monsters. Kubricks, Mini-Mates, SHS, Blammoids, Cosbabies, Lego, and Funko Pop have invaded my heroic world and I don't think I will ever look back. I even made room for Imaginext, Little People, and Polly Pocket.. what is the world coming to?? My one caveat is that they have to be small, I don't want giant looming marshmallow men peppered throughout my collection. Because of this, Mez-itz were off my radar until they introduced their Mini line of 2-inch figures. These two Catwomen are my first Mez-Itz and I must admit I am won over.
