When the character Silk was first teased back in 2014, I was super intrigued. The first images of her were in shadow and you were led to believe this was a new spider-villain. I had hopes that she would be a reimagined Madam Web (The Hostess Ad character, not the creepy old lady). But instead what we got was Cindy Moon, a new character with Peter Parker's same origins. In fact, she was bitten by the exact same spider. Cindy had been raised in isolation (that's why Peter had never heard of her prior) and the two share an intense pheromonal draw to each other. Her first costume is spun out of her own silk and is a pretty iconic look. She quickly adopted the more traditional costume we see in the comics, but I'm glad this impromptu outfit was finally merchandised because it's very cool. This Funko Pop was an SDCC shared exclusive available at Hot Topic. There were three new Spider-Lady Pops released in July and I will be reviewing them all in the next few days. POP Funko - HUNTRESS!
I saw Birds of Prey on Saturday night and I loved it. It seemed to take inspiration from some of my favorite movies: Scott Pilgrim, Kill Bill, Zombieland, and any other fast-paced wacky adventure you can think of. It was fun and entertaining (and I even appreciated the gore). Two of my very favorite comic characters (Cassandra Cain and Huntress) made their silver screen debut and (potentially) became known to the masses. If I was to cater Huntress' movie debut to my personal preferences, it would have been very very different. But that's not saying I didn't enjoy her quirky irrational violence and Drax-like social cues, I just love the cheesy comic version more. I have been waiting for a Huntress Funko Pop forever. Once we got the main Bat-Ladies like Batgirl, Harley, Catwoman, and Ivy, Huntress was the very next character on my list. It was a long wait, but this figure is perfect. The colors are bright, she's in her iconic Batman: Hush design. Now I want Bluebird and Black Bat! Let's Check out Helena below!

Funko Vynl - BATGIRL & POISON IVY!
I'm still on the fence about these new Funko Vynl figures. It's not a natural thing for me to be drawn toward super-deformed stylistic toys at all. Over time, Funko Pops and Dorbz have worn me down and I now accept them wholeheartedly. But these Vnyls actually remind me of all the reasons I was initially so resistant in the first place. But it didn't hurt that one of the very first offerings of this line was an SDCC Exclusive 2-Pack featuring Batgirl and Poison Ivy. I'm pretty much addicted to Bat-Family females so I was completely unable to resist this set when I found it in Hot Topic. But the second most appealing set (imo), the NYCC Lion-O and Mumm-Ra set failed to impress me when I saw them in TRU this morning. I actually really enjoy the Batgirl and Ivy set though, so I assume I'll continue to be a selective collector of this line. I hope Cheetera is next. Then Catwoman, then Jem, then the Sorceress.. yeah, with the right character selection I could get totally hooked on these. Let's check out Babs and Pam below!

Rock Candy - WONDER WOMAN & DIANA!
I tried to go back to the movies to see Wonder Woman for a second time this past weekend but the showtimes just didn't work out for my schedule. I'm still reeling over the fact that there was a really great DC movie. And that is was a female-led movie is just icing on the cake. I don't want to count my chicks before they're hatched, but I'm super excited for the Gotham City Sirens and Batgirl movies now. They could be equally great if given the same creative respect as this film had. After I left the theatre opening weekend, I really had to limit myself with Wonder Woman movie collectibles. It's my collecting impulse to horde plastic representations of all things I love. But I really restrained myself and limited my purchases to the Mattel Multiverse and these Rock Candy figures. I think I'm going to be a completist with DC and Marvel Rock Candy. I'll skip necessary repaints, but original sculpts are too tempting for me to pass up. These two figures are gorgeous and do not disappoint. Let's check them out below!

Rock Candy - WOMEN OF MARVEL!
I've had this group of Marvel Rock Candy figures forever but have been delaying posting them out of sheer laziness. I'm really impressed with this line overall and I'm so glad to see it growing in leaps and bounds. It seems like every few weeks there's a new announcement, and I'm already finding myself being very selective with my purchases. If I manage to find the exclusive Gwenpool and Red She-Hulk Rock Candys in the next few weeks I'll want to post on them right away and I didn't want to be caught too far behind with this first Marvel wave. The Rock Candy line started a little over a year ago with a DC Wave and was followed up several months later with this first batch of Marvel figures. I was a little bummed when I realized that, yet again, the Marvel figures must be bobble-heads. But I found that by jamming some tissue up in the head you can make it stay still in a normal position and overall I'm very happy with this group. (I'm still shocked there wasn't a Masked Captain Marvel variant though). Let's check them out!

POP DC Super Heroes - NEW 52 POISON IVY!
Of all the main Batman-family women, Poison Ivy is the one that most often gets forgotten in the merchandising department. Until the recent DC Superhero Girls figure, it had been almost ten years since the last action figure of her was in the mainstream stores (from The Batman), which in turn was the first in almost ten years (since the Batman & Robin movie). Of course comic shops got a decent amount of specialty figures in those years, but poor Pamela just didn't get the same exposure as the rest. Funko has definitely been doing their part to right that wrong though. In the past three years they've released nine Poison Ivy collectibles in almost every product line from their portfolio. The newest is this surprise New 52 Poison Ivy Pop exclusive to Hot Topic. Much like the New 52 Harley last year, word about this Pop hit at the same time she showed up in stores. I love that kind of instant gratification. I saw a post on Facebook and I had her in my greedy hands 30 minutes later. Let's check her out below!

POP DC Super Heroes - NEW 52 HARLEY QUINN!
Harley Quinn is clearly one of the all-time favorites over at the Funko Headquarters. I'm honestly shocked there hasn't been a Harley themed Legion of Collectors box yet. This Hot Topic Exclusive New 52 version is the 10th original sculpt in POP form. To go down the list: Harley with Gun, Harley with Mallet, Arkham Nurse, Arkham Knight, Roller Harley, and 4 Suicide Squad (Plain, Prisoner, Nightclub, and Dr. Quinzel). I think that's all of them. And I won't even touch on all the repaints (which I've officially given up on). This costume is my least favorite Harley look of all time. It's from her 2012 Suicide Squad squad appearances after the big DC reboot. I hate it so much. Yet somehow Funko has a way of making it tolerable. First with the SDCC Rock Candy figure, then the Pint-Size Heroes, and now this exclusive POP. Don't get me wrong, I still don't ever want this costume coming back, but I kind of like my little blue and red Harley collection. Let's check out the Hot Topic exclusive New 52 Harley below!

POP NYCC Exclusive - BATGIRL!
This time last year I was frantically planning my Black Friday POP hunting. My mind was blown away by the first Batgirl POP in 5 years being unveiled in the GameStop Black Friday blind box sale. Then I discovered the rare Gold variant (which I never actually got) and that just sent me into a collector tizzy. I must've stopped by 10 GameStops trying to get them both. It felt very much like Charlie trying to find the Golden Ticket in Willy Wonka. But now a year later there is so much more Batgirl product than I ever could have expected. We recently got a newly sculpted Burnside Batgirl, we have this amazing NYCC exclusive, we are getting a BTAS Batgirl soon, and we got Batgirl Impopsters of Harley and Ivy. And that's not even mentioning the Classic and Burnside Rock Candy figures and the multiple Pint-Size Heroes. This NYCC Batgirl is a great sculpt. I hope it gets variants because this black-and-yellow look is not a common look for Barbara. I'd love to see this in the classic gray and blue colors. Let's check her out!

The Bat-Family Ladies of PINT-SIZE HEROES!
The folks at Funko must spend every day eating cotton candy, making friendship bracelets and having sing-a-longs. The sheer amount of cuteness coming from their headquarters and flooding the stores is almost unbearable. Just at a time when I was seriously reconsidering my Funko Pop habits (sheerly out of concerns for space), they came and unveiled a perfectly tiny and adorable line of all my favorite characters. I'm really smitten over these little guys and I desperately hope there will be tons more in the future. The Spider-Man boxes are starting to show up now with a handful of cool Marvel ladies... but I already want more. There's something really nice about blindbags that are really easy to squeeze for your favorite characters. And if that doesn't work, there is a tiny window in the corner of each bag that will give you a peek at the color of the figure inside. (But be warned the Marvel set has a card inside each bag which makes the process much more difficult). Let's check out the Pint-Size Bat-Ladies!

Dorbz NYCC Exclusive HARLEY QUINN!
I honestly had no intention of buying this Harley Quinn Dorbz when she was announced as a NYCC exclusive this year. I'm not usually a big fan of subtle variants, especially when the variation is just a different weapon. But then I saw her at Hot Topic and realized I wanted her to replace my standard edition Suicide Squad Harley. The baseball bat that the standard edition comes with is much more movie accurate, but overall I really disliked that edition because her face was printed on incorrectly. On every Harley I saw in the stores, her eyes were printed a fraction of an inch too high on her head. On her own, you might not notice this error, but when she was lined up with my other Dorbz, she looked really odd and un-dorb-like. But luckily this exclusive mallet version is perfect. I'm hoping we see more DC Dorbz on the horizon. The X-Men lineup looks great. There are now pics of Emma Frost, Psylocke, Storm, and Phoenix on Hottopic.com, but I don't want the DC ladies forgotten. Rock Candy - HARLEY QUINN (New 52)!
When DC launched the New 52 back in 2011, I was left with a lot of conflicting emotions. On the positive side, some of my favorites like Barbara Gordon Batgirl, Amethyst, and Hawk & Dove were all making comebacks. But on the negative side were some really unfortunate costume changes. Some, like Poison Ivy's, really grew on me after a while, but this red and blue ill-fitting corset with clown collar and thigh-high socks is just about the most ridiculous outfit I've even seen on Harley. (Yet somehow it looks pretty cute on a Rock Candy). She only wore this in the 2011 Suicide Squad series which lasted about 30 issues and for the first few issues of New Suicide Squad in 2014 before it got phased out in favor of her Rollergirl costume. Funko made some good choices with their Summer Exclusives this year. Neither this costume nor the Purple Catwoman are iconic enough to be absolute must-haves for collectors, but they are really fun if you have the resources to hunt them down. Rock Candy - CATWOMAN (Purple Suit)!
I've never been a huge fan of the 1990's Purple-suited Jim Balent Catwoman. I didn't like much about superhero comics at all in the 90s and even a favorite character of mine like Selina wasn't an exception. I felt that her constantly gritted teeth, oversized chest, and impractical mane of hair was just silly. The gray catsuit that preceded it and the Darwyn Cooke version that succeeded it were two of my favorites, but the purple one always made me wince. That said, I think this SDCC/Hot Topic exclusive is too cute for words. I'm now a big fan of these Rock Candy figures. They don't really fit in with my collection, but that's never stopped me before - although I'm strictly limiting myself to Bat-family characters for real estate reasons. I expected these SDCC/Summer Exclusives to be impossible to find. But I was able to preorder one for myself easily, and then this afternoon I went into my Hot Topic and they had 5 or 6 of her. Hopefully all my future hunts go so smoothly. Let's check out Catwoman below!

Funko POP Marvel Heroes SPIDER-GWEN(S)!
Funko is just killing it lately. In the past month the presence of Funko products in my personal collection has practically doubled. Not only have they been producing all my favorite characters in rapid succession, but they've been surprising us with last-minute exclusives. Just when I thought I was done hunting down all the Suicide Squad Harleys, I was on the prowl for all the Spider-Gwens. Luckily it didn't take me long at all. I need to save some energy to hunt down the Golden Girls, Dark Crystal and Labyrinth POPs in the next few months. Not to mention all the SDCC exclusives that I have no clue how I will get (if anyone is going to SDCC and planning on standing in line for exclusives - and would love to do me a favor - please drop me a line ;)). Spider-Gwen has only been around for two short years but has already had a decent amount of merchandise. And in the next year we're getting a ton more from Monogram, Kotobukiya, etc. It's going to be an exciting year. Let's check out the three newest Gwens below!

Funko POP Suicide Squad HARLEY QUINN(S)!
I had a crazy day yesterday hunting down all the Harley Quinn variants before they became impossible to find. I'm officially limiting myself to sculptural variants (metallics and black & white repaints are just taking up too much space). I was in Target yesterday afternoon when I randomly stumbled across the standard Suicide Squad Harley Pop. I was ecstatic because I didn't expect her until later in the Summer. Then I looked on the back of the box and saw that there were two variants available as well. As soon as I got back to work I discovered that these were exclusive to Hot Topic and GameStop (I and *just* discovered a second ago that there's a Walmart Exclusive Dr. Quinzel-- arghh!). Anyway, it took some store-hopping, but within a few hours I had them all. The GameStop ones had showed up last Friday and were already hard to track down, but the Hot Topic ones were newly delivered and were in abundance.
