Marvel Legends - SILK!

Marvel Legends - Silk and Doctor Octopus 2-Pack - Disney Hasbro 2022

When I think about all the characters that haven't been included in the Marvel Legends line yet, I get baffled over a relatively new character getting a third figure in six short years. I love Cindy Moon. She is a great addition to the Spider-Verse that I wholeheartedly support. But when I saw this two-pack shown in a Hasbro livestream earlier this year, I quickly judged her inclusion as a waste of a slot. I have a wishlist of spider-ladies a mile long, and I already have two perfect Silk figures. Of course I pre-ordered her anyway. And in the time since, I've really come to enjoy the modern Silk comic series and also appreciate her new haircut. So I slowly came around to the idea getting a third figure representing her (slightly) updated appearance. What I wasn't expecting was the most gorgeous headsculpt I have ever seen. And that's saying a lot. She has an amazing smirk, a subtly dynamic hairsculpt, and captivating eyes. I would really be kicking myself if I hadn't purchased this one. Let's check out Silk below!

POP Funko - SILK (1ST APPEARANCE)!

Marvel POP! #1064 - Silk (Cindy Moon) - SDCC / Hot Topic Exc - Funko 2022

When the character Silk was first teased back in 2014, I was super intrigued. The first images of her were in shadow and you were led to believe this was a new spider-villain. I had hopes that she would be a reimagined Madam Web (The Hostess Ad character, not the creepy old lady). But instead what we got was Cindy Moon, a new character with Peter Parker's same origins. In fact, she was bitten by the exact same spider. Cindy had been raised in isolation (that's why Peter had never heard of her prior) and the two share an intense pheromonal draw to each other. Her first costume is spun out of her own silk and is a pretty iconic look. She quickly adopted the more traditional costume we see in the comics, but I'm glad this impromptu outfit was finally merchandised because it's very cool. This Funko Pop was an SDCC shared exclusive available at Hot Topic. There were three new Spider-Lady Pops released in July and I will be reviewing them all in the next few days. Let's check out Silk below!

Marvel Vinylmation - SPIDER-LADIES!

Marvel Vinylmation Series 1 & Marvel Junior Series 15 - Disney 2013 & 2016

It's hard to deny the popularity of vinyl collectibles. These days, when you visit a collectible toy store, chances are it will be largely dedicated to vinyls (which can be unfortunate). While the Funko Pop line is the current industry leader, they weren't the first, and they won't be the last. But about a decade ago, it seemed like every single company took a shot on the fad.  One of the more prominent lines was Vinylmation from Disney. They started in 2008 as Disney park exclusives, but soon they were in every Disney Store and all over the secondary market. Vinylmation used the successful blind box formula of a standard quirky mold with unique paint designs. Bearbricks, Dunny, and Labbit had laid the groundwork, and Disney had a guaranteed hit with an iconic Mickey Mouse body and an endless supply of popular licenses to tap into. Of course, even successful toy lines rarely last forever, and by 2017 these were all but extinct. The Spider-Ladies were my obvious favorite. Let's check them out below!

Marvel Legends - SILK (VERSION 2)!

Marvel Legends: Fan Vote 2020 - Silk (Cindy Moon) Version 2 - Hasbro 2020

Spider-Women have come a long way in the last 15 years. For decades there was a few seminal ladies in the Spider-Verse, but starting roughly 15 years ago there has been a steady stream of new female characters: Mayhem, Ashley Barton, Ultimate Spider-Woman, Anya Corazon Spider-Girl, Mania, Lady Spider, Spinnerette, Spiderling, Spider-Gwen, and last but not least, Silk. While Silk may be slightly overshadowed by Spider-Gwen's popularity, I've always thought she has an equally cool design and a much better backstory. Her intertwined origin with Peter Parker was a stroke of genius. The original Legends Silk was released in 2016 and has become one of the most sought-after figures on the secondary market. Then she won the 2020 Fan Vote on Hasbro Pulse and in no time we got this great repaint. While I'm not always a huge fan on repaints, this new version has enough of a visual difference to easily earn her a spot on my Spider-shelf. Let's checkout Cindy Moon Silk below!

Marvel Chess Collection - THE SPIDER-LADIES!

Marvel Chess Collection - Anya, Jessica, Cindy, and Gwen - Eaglemoss 2016

I hope Eaglemoss never stops making comic figurines. They started with the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection in 2007 and soon launched their DC Comics equivalent the year after. When both series ran their course, they began making Chess Pieces of the characters and the series continued. I count about 600 unique figures between DC and Marvel, and they're still coming. I thought I was showing great restraint with this line by only buying my favorite-of-favorites. But I just counted and I somehow acquired 37 over the years (including a purchase this afternoon - Hela). One of my greatest Eaglemoss joys came last year when there was a Spider-Man themed Chess series and they released four awesome modern Spider-Woman: Spider-Gwen, Spider-Girl (Anya), Silk, and a modern Jessica Drew Spider-Woman (which I think is the only representation of this look in plastic so far.. not even a Heroclix or Minimate). Eaglemoss has a knack for reading my mind when it comes to character selection. Let's check them out!

January 2017 Collection of MARVEL MINI-MATES!

Marvel Mini-Mates Series Series 69 and Blind Bag Series 01 - DST 2017

This has been an amazing month for Minimates. It's uncanny how they come in such surges (at least the interesting female characters). We can go through an eleven month dry spell only to have six new figures come out within a week of each other. It can be pretty overwhelming. I'm combining the Marvel Series 69 releases with the first series of Marvel Blind Bag figures for this review. The Mini-Mates Series 69 is dubbed "Most Wanted" and is definitely impressive for including both an Enchantress and Tigra. (Indeed two of my most wanted figures). The Series 01 Marvel Bling-Bags offered us amazing figures of Silk and X-23 Wolverine, a cool unhooded variant of Spider-Gwen, and an unexpected Deadpool 2099. I'm really excited to see what other figures they squeeze into future blind bag assortments. I'm hoping we'll see a Gwenpool, Moongirl, and Riri Ironheart at the very least. Toy Fair always has a few fun reveals and I'm certainly looking forward to it. Let's check out all the ladies below!

Marvel Legends - SILK (CINDY MOON)!

Spider-Man Legends - Venom Series - Web-Slinging Heroines - Hasbro 2016

Silk is one of the many Spider-Ladies introduced in the Marvel Universe during the past few years. However, she slightly predates the rest of the bunch and her origins lead me to think her character was conceived before the whole Spider-Verse event. Cindy Moon was a student in the same lab where Peter Parker was bitten by that fateful radioactive spider. What wasn't revealed until recently is that Cindy was also bitten. Unlike Peter though, she could not control her powers and was locked in a bunker to protect herself and others from the spider-hunting Inheritors. Her release from the bunker acted as a beacon to those dimension-hopping Inheritors and triggered the Spider-Verse storyline. Although somewhat overshadowed by Spider-Gwen, Silk has had two successful solo series and starring roles in two others. Plus getting a fantastic Marvel Legends figure just two years after her debut speaks volumes. I can't wait to see who else we'll see in future Spider-Man waves. Let's check out Silk below!
