Power Rangers - PINK & YELLOW SPACE RANGERS!

Power Rangers Legacy Collection S3 & S4 - Space Pink and Yellow - Bandai 2017

Power Rangers in Space is the sixth American season of Power Rangers from 1998. It is based on the Japanese series Denji Sentai Megaranger. I like pointing this out because there is a major discrepancy between the two series that I find amusing. The original Japanese version has a computerized/digital theme with lots of microchips and lights. (I swear my old Texas Instruments computer in the 80s had the same color strips that they wear on their chests). The American interpretation of this theme was... space. I guess the helmets could sort of be viewed as space helmets. But for that matter, all iterations kind of look like spacemen. Power Rangers in Space is also known for giving us the Psycho Rangers. I love the trope of evil doppelgangers so I'm excited to see these in Legacy toy form.  I'll be interested to see if the Yellow and Pink Psychos come on a female buck. The television versions definitely looked all male, but I hope they'll break the rules for the toys. Let's check out the Space Rangers below!

League of Legends - PROJECT FIORA!

League of Legends - Legacy Collection 01: Project Fiora - Funko 2016

I've been nervous about the fate of Funko's Legacy Collection over the last year. I've loved every figure I've picked up so far: Three Magic the Gathering figures, Four Game of Thrones, and Two Evolve. I think the production quality and sculpt has been amazing on each one, but nevertheless they seem to all have been shelfwarmers. The Evolve figures in particular seemed to sit untouched until they were clearanced. There have been plenty of figures since then: Skyrim, Fallout, Five Nights at Freddy's, Book of Life, etc, but honestly they've all been off my radar until this recent League of Legends series was announced a few weeks ago. I thought League of Legends was some new thing. I'm totally ignorant of all things gaming. So when I tried to research it and found myself wading through 7 years of intense data, I was quickly overwhelmed. I'm sure her backstory is interesting and complex, but I'm fine admitting that she's just a pretty face to me. She is such a cool looking figure. Let's check out Fiora below!

Power Rangers - MMPR PINK RANGER!

Power Rangers Legacy Collection Series 2 - MMPR Pink Ranger - Bandai 2016

The Power Rangers Legacy series is going strong. This second wave adds the Blue, Black, and Pink Rangers to the previously released Red and Green MMPR from Wave 01. (Yellow and White will be released in Spring of 2017). This Pink Ranger is easily the most iconic of all the female Rangers so I'm glad she was released early in the line. Bandai is pretty smart to stagger the different rosters between the waves. There are 40 iterations of Power Rangers to draw from so they really need to pace themselves. I'm actually pretty curious to see how well the line sells after the Mighty Morphin' team is complete. They already completed Ninja Storm and started Power Rangers in Space. And by this time next year we should also have a complete Power Rangers Zeo team as well. I know MMPR will be the best sellers for the collecting market, but hopefully the less popular themes will hit those nostaligic notes as well. There are a lot of weird Rangers I'd love to see in the future. Let's check out the MMPR Pink Ranger below!

Power Rangers - NINJA STORM BLUE RANGER!

Power Rangers Legacy Collection - Ninja Storm Blue Ranger - Bandai 2016

Bandai's new Power Ranger Legacy Collection is off to a great start. When these were talked about at recent shows and conventions, I wasn't grasping how robust of a line this would be. For starters, the 6-7" scale seems so impressive and new for Power Rangers figures. Also, they aren't messing around with the word "Legacy" - Ninja Storm was the Power Rangers theme in 2003 and this Blue Wind Ranger happens to be one of my favorite Rangers of all time. This first wave consists of Blue, Red, and Yellow Ninja Storm Rangers, and Green and Red MMPRs. I only bought this one figure so my knowledge is incomplete, but I know that by buying the three Ninja Storm figures, you have all the Build-a-Figure pieces to create the Storm Megazord. I have a feeling the two MMPR figures don't let you create a full Dino Megazord, but I'm not certain about that. Bandai has made promises that this line will be consistent and long-lasting. I can't wait to see it all unfold. Let's check out the Blue Wind Ranger below!

Evolve - Funko Legacy Collection - MAGGIE!

Funko Legacy Collection: Evolve - #04 Margaret "Maggie" Lumumba - Funko 2015

Funko's Legacy series has some of the greatest potential of all the collector lines out there. I think this is because the assortment of properties is so random and unknown. When we hear news from Hasbro, the only surprise factor in in the character selection. But Funko seems to dabble in a little bit of everything. With all the billion and a half licences they have, the possibilities for future Legacy figures seems limitless. That potential of course depends on the success of the various random Legacy lines as they are released. I'm really hoping to see Dark Crystal and Fifth Element at the very least. This figure of Maggie looks pretty creepy. Something about her makeup and hair makes her look ruthless and crazy. I kind of love it.  Maggie is a hunter character alongside her pet trapjaw (i.e. a big alien beast) named Daisy. The figure itself is great. Her paint and articulation are practically perfect. I hope this series is successful! I'm a big fan of the two figures I've purchased. Let's check out Maggie below.

Evolve - Funko Legacy Collection - VAL!

Funko Legacy Collection: Evolve - #02 Valerie "Val" Wolski - Funko 2015

I want nothing more than for Funko's Legacy line to be long and prosperous. There are enough properties to go around and they have produced some pretty great figures already. The only worry I have is about their license selection. Game of Thrones and Firefly seem like no-brainers. But Fantastic Mr. Fox, Book of Life, and Evolve don't seem like especially profitable choices. Hopefully the outrageous success of POPs and the myriad of other Funko products can float this line until it really finds its groove. Evolve is a videogame released for Playstation and XBox earlier this year. I don't personally play games, but this one sounds really interesting. The game enables 4 players to be hunters on the alien planet Shear, then a 5th player is the alien monster they are hunting. It sounds as if the title comes from the ability of the 5th player to kill other monsters and animals and absorb their traits -- evolving it into a bigger, badder beast. It sounds fun (and I would always play the monster!). Let's check out Val below!

Game of Thrones - ARYA STARK!

Game of Thrones: Legacy Collection #9 - Arya Stark - Funko 2014

I fully intended on skipping this figure when I first saw her. I thought she looked too boyish -- which is pretty amusing since this is Arya in boy-drag as Arry (during her adventure from King's Landing toward the Wall). Eventually I picked the figure up on clearance after the holidays but I'm just getting around to writing her review now. I'm definitely glad I didn't pass on her because the more I have her in hand, the more I appreciate the execution of this figure.  While she doesn't look much like actress Maisie Williams, the likeness is still passable.  If this line continues I hope we see another Arya in one of her other (upcoming) transformations.  Who knows, I think she's a good candidate to sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the series.  My personal theory is that the remaining Starks will join together and use their suppressed warg powers to control Daenerys' dragons.  I think that has some clout. Only time will tell though.  (By this time next year we should have the sixth book.)  Let's check out Arya!
