When Super7 first announced the SilverHawks license a few years ago, they mentioned all the types of product they were planning to produce. While the Ultimates line gets the lion's share of attention (and the SilverHawks Ultimates have been amazing) I was personally even more excited by the ReAction figures. Of course, it took them nearly three years to finally make them, but they are amazing and very much worth the wait. In all the different vintage-inspired toylines I collect, the goal is always to assemble a Ladies of the Eighties lineup. And with some of the lesser-produced ladies, like Jem, already in the line, ReAction is ahead of the game. I predict we'll even see the TigerSharks ladies in the next few years. I suspect the delay of this SilverHawks wave had to do with the perfecting of the metallic deco. While I truly appreciated the pearlized gray animated look in the first Ultimates figures, the multi-colored metallic just looks so much better. Let's check out the ReAction Steelheart below!

SilverHawks Ultimates - STEELHEART!
Every so often I get my hands on an action figure that reminds me exactly why I'm in this glorious hobby. To me, there's a seemingly simple recipe of nostalgia and aesthetics that makes for a perfect toy. Yet for some reason, the balance is usually off. But this Steelheart toy color variant figure fills me with so much joy. Right off, the purple chrome finish is beautiful. The vintage toy was more of a dark violet metallic, while this is more medium lavender, but I like the new color better. I thought the face sculpts and paint of the first (animated) release was perfection, but this version has slightly more simplified and stark facepaint, and it's even better. I was nervous about her metallic paint chipping or scratching so I was pretty gentle with posing and swapping her parts, but I had zero issues. She has me excited for potential new figures to add to my Ladies of the 80s collection. Fingers crossed for Octavia from Tigersharks, Nightshade from C.O.P.S., and Shaya from Power Lords. SilverHawks Ultimates - STEELHEART!
A little over ten years ago I made a post about the 1986 Steelheart figure from Kenner. I was just revisiting that page and reminiscing about how badly I wanted SilverHawks figures in MOTUC style back then. I would explicitly pine for them in the comments section regularly. I always imagined a shelf of perfectly-represented 80's Ladies: She-Ra, Cheetara, Jem, Steelheart, Octavia, Baroness, etc... all in a similar scale and animated design. And for the first time I think this is not a ridiculous concept. The SilverHawks Ultimates line is the first of these resurrected properties that hasn't had any form of reboot or modern renaissance. Yet they seem to be selling well. This gives me hope for TigerSharks and other dead (but nostalgic) properties. At the same time, this line makes be nervous because there hasn't been any news of new figures in 14 months. And at the very least we need Copper Kidd to complete the main team. Plus Flashback, Melodia, and Moon Stryker would be awesome. Here's hoping for SDCC reveals!

Vintage Goodness: SilverHawks STEELHEART!
SilverHawks was one of those fantastic late-80s properties that combined toy and cartoon culture and became an instant hit. Rankin & Bass created SilverHawks as an outerspace counterpart to ThunderCats. (Rankin & Bass also developed 1987's TigerSharks, which is a personal favorite of mine, but unfortunately produced no female action figures). The SilverHawks were a team of cybernetically-enhanced heroes in the galaxy of Limbo who fought against the evil Mon*Star (yes, he has a star instead of a hyphen). SteelHeart is the codename for Emily Hart, the sole female of the group and twin sister of Will Hart, aka SteelWill. She is the technician of the team and is often seen tinkering with their spaceship(s). All the SilverHawks have cybernetic wings, facemasks, and a robotic bird companion. Unfortunately these figures don't display their masked variations, but all-in-all, they are some of the best 1980s cartoon-based toys out there. The likenesses are great, the action features make sense, and the sheer playability is amazing. On to the review!
