It's taken a while, but thankfully we finally have a deluxe movie-accurate Shatter figure. The original designs sent to Hasbro in advance the movie weren't finalized, and therefore the first handful of Shatter figures were not screen accurate. This is most evident in the face, the first toys of which were covered with a red faceplate. While this is not a bad design at all, it didn't enable all the great expressions that the silver exposed face allowed. Luckily Shatter is a triple changer and therefore probably warranted two deluxe figures eventually, so I'm actually glad the two in my collection look so different. I know we'll likely never see this character again, either on screen or in the toy aisles, but the Bumblebee movie renewed my faith that the Transformers movie franchise can introduce really great cinematic females. It would actually be amazing if the Arcee design from that oh-so-brief Cybertron scene would get an action figure, but I have high hopes for her in the sequel. Let's check out jet-mode Shatter below!

Transformers Titan Changers - SHATTER!
I never would have a expected to have a Titan-scale 12" Transformer that actually transforms. I thought the Quickshadow figure from a couple years ago was the best we would ever get. But then the Bumblebee movie products rolled out and they included this 12" Titan Changers Shatter. I pretty much only pay attention to female Transformers characters, so I realize transforming Titans may have been around for a while, but this is all new to me. So when all the Bumblebee movie product starting appearing on the shelves, I was eagerly hunting this figure. Unfortunately it never appeared anywhere that I could find. I ended up ordering her from the Walmart website last week before she disappeared forever. I'm glad I finally bit the bullet, too, because she's a pretty cool action figure. Her construction appears a little cheap upon inspection (most of her body is hollow from the back, like a jello mold). But the overall look, transformation feature, and low price point make up for it. Let's check out Shatter below!

Transformers Studio Series - SHATTER!
I really thought the Bumblebee movie was fantastic. I loved the slow character development, I loved the awesome cameos, and I loved that the plot did not culminate in an eye-rolling, world-ending, catastrophic event. Apocalyptic threats in movies are a dime a dozen these days and they make all the blockbuster films just blur together for me. But Bumblebee is different and I hope they credit the box office success to these factors with and give us more films with a similar formula. The inclusion of the new character Shatter was just icing on the cake. I love female villains and something about Shatter reminded me so much of Crasher from GoBots - who both terrified and thrilled me as a child. The previous toy offerings of Shatter were too simple for my tastes, so I was really looking forward to this Studio Series figure. I really like the figure overall, but I'm disappointed that she features her concept art head instead of the cinematic version. Hopefully some 3rd party add-on will come to the rescue. Transformers Bumblebee SHATTER (Car & Jet)!
I just saw the Transformers: BumbleBee movie today and one of the major highlights for me was the original female Decepticon, Shatter. I read online that she was inspired by the G1 character Nightbird, and I guess I can see that in her face, but otherwise she seems like a wholly unique creation. Shatter and Dropkick (voiced by Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux) formed a classic brains vs brawn that I loved. If the movie had used classic well-known villains, I would have spent the entire two hours nitpicking the performance. But as it was I could just sit back and enjoy the movie. These initial two toys aren't a great example of modern Transformer engineering, but I wanted to celebrate this character so I picked them up. There is a 12" Titan and a Deluxe Movie figure coming out soon that should hopefully make up for them. Overall I'm just glad there was finally such a significant female presence in the TF cinematic universe. Let's check out these first two Shatter offerings below!
