A wonderful thing I discovered in the past few months was the Toys R' Us Experience pop-up in Macy's department stores. With the loss of the main TRU stores, as well as K-Mart (and a ton of individual Walgreens and GameStop locations), there have been a palpable void in my toy hunting grounds. But then this pop-up came into existence around the 2021 holiday season and gave back a tiny smidgen of what was lost. If you haven't been to one yet, it reminds me of the toy section at Kohls, but five times as large. Almost every time I stop in, I find something that's not in Target or Walmart. A recent find was this Yavin 4 Leia figure. I actually think this is the most attractive of all Leia's outfits. It's simple, regal, and iconic - plus I really like the necklace and belt. In A New Hope, she wears this at the Rebel stronghold on the moon Yavin 4 as she awards Luke and Han with medallions after they destroy the Death Star. It's kind of a cheesy ending to such a groundbreaking film, but I still love it. Let's check out Leia below!

Star Wars - PRINCESS LEIA (EWOK VILLAGE)!
Princess Leia truly did have a bizarre number of costume changes throughout the original Star Wars trilogy. Even as a child, I was always left wondering when she had time to change - and where was her luggage? But no outfit raised more questions for me than this Ewok Village outfit from Return of the Jedi. She wears this the entire time she is in the Ewok Village on Endor and I wanted nothing more than to see little Ewok tailors creating this outfit out of thin air. Even the twine in her hair seemed elaborate and detailed. Obviously the Ewoks are skilled at many things, so hair and clothing are not unthinkable, but if there was ever a need for a fashion montage, it would be Leia being groomed, measured, and cinched by a bunch of fussy Ewoks. I've been fantasizing about this for almost 40 years. This figure marks my ninth Black Series Leia - all in unique outfits, and all very iconic. I can't wait to see what version is next. Cloud City is top of my list, but I'm down for anything at this point. Let's check out Lea below!

Star Wars - PRINCESS LEIA (ENDOR)!
My favorite of the original Star Wars movies is Return of the Jedi. It was one of the first movies I saw in the theatre and I became absolutely obsessed with ewoks. It actually started when choosing toys at Kay-Bee. My mom would say we could each pick one "Star Wars guy" (or a matchbox). We lived deep in the woods and I was a nature and animal fanatic, so Ewoks were a predictable choice for me. And of all the Star Wars movies, the forest moon of Endor had the most relatable setting to me. Imagine idolizing characters for two movies, then finally seeing them in an environment that looked like your backyard. It made me feel connected. And my jealousy when Leia first met Wicket was palpable. I was the weird kid who dreamt of discovering his very own bigfoot, mokele-mbembe, or E.T. in my woods. But I digress. I've been waiting for this version of Leia since the Black Series began. It's not the most glamourous or memorable look, but it is definitely the most nostalgic for me. Let's check her out below!

Star Wars - PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA (HOTH)!
I've had this figure open and photographed since I bought her way back in early December of last year. I've always found it extremely tricky to photograph characters with a lot of white on their costumes. So this Leia (and Storm from the last post) spurred me to dive deep and figure out the intricacies of my damn camera (as well as adjusting color balance in post-editing) to properly review these characters. I re-shot her and I'm much happier with the washed-out photo set I created last year. This Leia is actually one of my favorites from my 6" Star Wars Black Series collection. I always thought this was a great functional look that still stayed true to that classic Leia color palette and her hairdo is second only to the side-buns. We've received six different Leias in this line so far and I can only think of three more offhand (Cloud City Rust Gown, Endor Speeder Bike, and Endor long hair celebration look). And I hope we eventually get them all because it would make for a pretty awesome collection. Let's check out Hot Leia below!

Star Wars - PRINCESS LEIA (BESPIN ESCAPE)!
I'm loving how the Star Wars 6" Black Series is on a roll with getting us all the Princess Leia variations. I was always overwhelmed by the Leias in the 3.75" collection so I never even attempted to get them. But with the 6" series, I am getting in on the ground floor and I'm excited to see how far the line goes. I'm not even completely aware of all the outfits she appeared in, but my favorite movie was always Return on the Jedi so I'm looking forward to her camouflage Endor outfit, her long-hair Ewok festival outfit, and her award ceremony gown. And I think in time that we'll see all of these. Unfortunately we now deal with an issue of the first two Black Series Leias being awkwardly out of scale: Slave Leia being too small and Boushh Disguise Leia being too large. I would love apology figures someday, but not before exhausting the variations we haven't seen yet. Then again, the Padme Amidala wardrobe could completely derail the current Leia momentum. Star Wars Toybox - PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA!
These Disney Store Toybox figures are getting better with each purchase. Last year's Rey figure was pretty weird looking - enough so that I questioned if I would really buy any future figures. But then the Black Widow figure was revealed and I suddenly had renewed interest in the line. This newest Princess Leia figure is keeping the momentum going. She embodies this great blend of modern animated styling with classic movie details. Now I'm really excited about future figures. I'm guessing we'll eventually see a Queen Amidala and Hera Syndula. But I'd also love to see some more obscure choices like Oola, Darth Talon, and Shaak Ti. The Marvel line has teased a new Wasp figure, but I also expect a Captain Marvel and Gamora figure in the near future. Not forgetting classics like She-Hulk and Spider-Woman which would be awesome. I should also mention that the Toy Story and Incredibles lines both have females in them as well, but I'm limiting myself to Marvel and Star Wars. Let's check out Leia below!

Star Wars 6" Black Series - GENERAL LEIA ORGANA!
This was the first figure I grabbed off the shelf on Force Friday. I was the 6th person in the TRU doors at midnight (they only let ten people in at a time) and luckily all the other fans in that group were after 3.75" figures, so I had the 6" section all to myself. In Force Awakens, I thought General Organa was the most interesting carry-over character from the original trilogy. Han Solo, Chewie, Tarkin, C3PO, etc. were just continuations from their previous appearances. They hadn't evolved the way you would have expected in a world rebuilding after the fall of the Empire (Luke obviously has been through a lot, but we barely saw him). But Leia took the cake as far as cool character advancement. The leadership skills and tenacity shown throughout episodes IV-VI culminated in Leia becoming a General in the Resistance. Her powerful and authoritative presence in the movie seems like such a natural progression. I'm excitedly yet solemnly looking forward to seeing her final role in The Last Jedi this December.

Star Wars 40th Anniversary - PRINCESS LEIA!
Princess Leia is one of the most recognizable fictional females of all time. Whether she's in her iconic metal bikini or the trademark hair buns, her image is known across the world. That's why it is so surprising that there has never been an action figure that captures her likeness well until very recently. This 40th Anniversary figure has the most amazing Leia face sculpt I've ever seen. She also comes on an amazing Kenner-style retro cardback. Unfortunately she's also wearing a lumpy potato sack for her robes. I will never understand cloth outfits for toys in this scale. I just bought an E.T. figure from NECA last week and he is cloaked in a sculpted white blanket that is flexible, removable, and looks great. I wish Hasbro would take a cue from NECA and re-release this Leia with sculpted attire. I would buy her in a heartbeat. In the meantime I will play around with pinning back the bulky sections and dusting off my needle and thread skills - cause that face deserves a better presentation. Let's check her out below!

Star Wars 6" Black Series - BOUSHH DISGUISE LEIA!
While the Star Wars films aren't known for having a wide array of female characters, the characters they do have tend to run the gamut of roles. We saw Princess Leia as a snarky rebel leader, a skilled fighter, a metal-clad slave, and my favorite, a knight in shining armor. In a nice turn of events during Return of the Jedi, Leia dons the outfit of recently killed bounty hunter Boushh to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hut. I'm glad this was the choice for the second Black figure Leia. (Next I want Hoth or Endor!) I had a real tough time finding this figure when she was supposedly hitting the shelves this past summer, but luckily she (and her whole wave) seem to be heavily stocked in Walgreens right now. Hopefully everyone seeking her out can find her as easily as I did. I'm trying to post all my backlogged Star Wars posts this week before The Force Awakens comes out. It's probably going to be weeks before I get to see it in the theatres, but I'm already excited.Let's check out Leia in her Boushh disguise below!

Star Wars: The Black Series - PRINCESS LEIA!
Princess Leia is the Queen of Geekdom. I personally was a fan from the moment she first she mocked Luke on screen, but for the moviegoers who might have been withholding their adoration, the moment she emerged in her infamous Frazetta-styled metal bikini as a slave in Jabba's lair hooked the rest of the world. The bikini even has its own wikipedia page. Despite her high status in geek culture and my own love of her, it's pretty surprising that this is my first Leia action figure ever (not counting a few Galactic Heroes I found in a dollar bin). I guess I was holding out for the best... and honestly I think that was a great decision. This figure is beautiful. I'm not a fan of the sloppy cloth skirt or the too-stiff chain and ponytail, but overall those really aren't big detractors. I'm excited for the future of this line. Hopefully we see many more figures in this scale and level of detail, but knowing this franchise, any more females will be far far away.... Let's check out Leia below!
