Hogs & Kisses Card by Samantha Mann

Hogs & Kisses Card by Samantha Mann | Oink Stamp Set, Hills & Grass Stencil and Essential Alphabet Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Hogs & Kisses!

Today we are starting out a new year of projects with an adorable pig card created by Samantha!

To create this whimsical card she stamped the fun little piggies from our Oink Stamp Set and colored them with watercolor marker, giving them fun spots and pink cheeks! She also used a white gel pen to add little accents. She cut the pigs out using the coordinating Oink Die Set

For her card she created a grassy landscape using our Hills & Grass Stencil with distress inks. She added water splatters for a bit of texture. Then she used our Essential Alphabet Die Set to cut out the custom sentiment "hogs & kisses" and layered black cardstock behind it to make it pop!

What a fun way to add a big bold message to your card!  She added the pigs around the letters, adhering them with a bit of three dimensional tape. So cute!

Hap-pig Birthday Card by July Guest Designer Rachel Alvarado

Hello crafty friends!  It's Rachel here and I'm back this week to share a fun slimline birthday card with you featuring some adorable little birthday pigs!

Pig Birthday Card by July Guest Designer Rachel Alvarado | Oin Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

For this one layer card, I combined both the Oink Stamp Set along with the birthday hat from the Paw-some Birthday Stamp Set.  I absolutely love these sweet little pigs!  My 8 year-old daughter is obsessed with pigs, so I created this card for her upcoming birthday.

Pig Birthday Card by July Guest Designer Rachel Alvarado | Oin Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

I first trimmed a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb Card Stock to 3.5" x 8.5".  I also trimmed a piece of basic white card stock to the same size and quickly stamped a rough draft/template of my card.  I used this template along with my MISTI when stamping my final design.  I masked my images as I went so that the pigs appeared behind the hats as well as some pigs in front of and/or behind each other.  I don' t always create one-layer cards but I find that the fussy cutting is actually relaxing for me, so on some nights when I'm watching tv with my husband, I stamp all of my images onto a piece of Gina K Designs Masking Magic Sheets and cut away lol.

Once I was done stamping and all of my images were covered, I then blended the background with Peacock Feathers, Salvaged Patina, and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Inks.  I splattered this area with both watered down white acrylic paint as well as diluted Peacock Feathers Distress Ink for added interest.  Once dry, I then trimmed my piece down to 3.25" x 8.25" and layered it with pieces of teal and white card stock.

Copic Colors Used: (Pigs: E0000, E000, E00, E11, E13; Hooves: E25, E29; Purples: V20, V22, V25, V28; Teals: G000, BG11, BG34, BG49; Ears: RV00, R81, R85).

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!  If you liked this card and want more inspiration, feel free to check out my Instagram feed.  Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Herd it's your Baa-thday Card by Zsofia Molnar | Oink, Baa, Neigh, and Moo Stamp Sets and Frames Squared Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Farm Animals Birthday Card!

Today we are sharing an adorable birthday card by Zsofia that features cute animals from several of our farm themed products! She used the cow from our Moo Stamp Set, the pig from our Oink Stamp Set, the horse from our Neigh Stamp Set and the sheep from our Baa Stamp Set. She colored all these adorable farm friends and cut them out using the coordinating Moo Die SetOink Die SetNeigh Die Set, and Baa Die Set

Then she created a fun square card for these cuties using the stitched scalloped square and the rounded square dies from our Frames Squared Die Set to make a window frame. She layered the frame over some checkered paper and then tucked an animal into each corner. In the center she used added a decorative die cut shape in light blue and a circle in black, also from our Frames Squared Die Set. The sentiment is from Baa Stamp Set and was embossed in white on the black circle. It's so fun how all these critters surround the sentiment!

Farm Themed Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans

Farm Themed Baby Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Baa, Oink, Cluck, Moo and Loveable Laundry Stamp Sets, Gingham and Cloudy Sky Stencils, and Land Borders and Circle Frames Die Sets by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook

Welcome Little Boy!

Today Ellen has created a wonderful farm themed card to welcome a baby boy! For this card she features several of our farm themed sets together to create an adorable scene! For the farm friends she uses the pig from our Oink Stamp Set, the lamb from our Baa Stamp Set and the chick from our Cluck Stamp Set. She also uses the hay bale and barn from our Moo Stamp Set to set the scene. All the images were cut out with their coordinating die sets (find them all in our farm category).

She used our Circle Frames Die Set to create the circle and scalloped circle that frames the scene. She also used our Cloudy Sky Stencil and Land Borders Die Set to complete the scene.

To make this into a baby card she adds the sentiment "welcome little boy" by combining words from our Loveable Laundry Stamp Set. The word "welcome" was added to a banner that was cut out using our Banner Trio Die Set. Our Gingham Stencil on the background with yellow ink really adds to the sweet baby theme!

How to create this card:

Below we have some instructions from Ellen on how to create this card.

  1. (left photo) Using Distress Ink and the Gingham Stencil I made the base of the card..

  2. (center photo) I created a scene in the biggest frame from Circle Frames Die Set. I started with the grass and the hill. This was created with the Land Borders Die Set. I colored these borders with Distress Ink. For the sandy hill I also sprinkled brown, white and water splatters on top. The clouds were created with the Cloudy Sky Stencil and white glitter gel from Therm O Web.

  3. (right photo) The last step was to color the images with Copic Markers and then assemble it all together.

She features the horse from our Neigh Stamp Set, the cow from our Moo Stamp Set, two goats from our Bleat Stamp Set, and the cute little piggy from our Oink Stamp Set. After coloring all these cute farm friends with copic markers, Andrea added them to a fun slimline card! The scalloped panel for the scene was created using our Slimline Frames & Portholes Die Set. Inside the frame she created layers of hills created with our Hills & Grass Stencil with distress inks. She also added some mountains along the top using our Mountains Stencil.

It's Your Birthday! Card by April Guest Designer Jennifer Hartsgrove

Hi Krafty Friends! I’m back up on the Newton’s Nook Designs blog and YouTube Channel today as April’s Guest Designer!

It's Your Birthday! Card by April Guest Designer Jennifer Hartsgrove | Newton's Birthday Balloons Stamp Set, Oink Stamp Set, Clouds Stencil and Confetti Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
In this weeks project I used Newton’s Birthday Balloons, and Oink Stamp Sets. Plus, I used their Confetti and Cloud Stencils. I also tried some techniques that I haven’t tried before!

Starting my project I used Pixie Spray to adhere the stencil temporarily to Bristol Smooth Cardstock. Then I randomly spread Rina K Designs Electro-Pop Neon Glitz Gels onto NND’s Confetti Stencil in Poppin’ Pink, Orange Glow, Hello Yellow and Screamin’ Green using a palette knife. I then scraped the excess off with my Stencil Pal. I did have a little difficulty with lifting the stencil off my paper, I had some tearing. I tried it several times, and wasn’t able to get one solid piece without some sort of tear. I’m not sure if I need to wait longer to remove, or if I used a little too much Pixie Spray. I was able to get what I needed for my card, and will have to do more experimenting in the future. That being said the pieces that didn’t have any damage, were absolutely gorgeous!

It's Your Birthday! Card by April Guest Designer Jennifer Hartsgrove | Confetti Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
I stamped my images onto Copic friendly Cardstock with Lawn Fawn’s Jet Black Ink. I then decided to pre-cut the images out, I wanted to use flock on my balloons and thought this would be the best course of action.

My color palette:
  • Newton’s Fur – Y35, Y38, YR15 and YR16. Ears: R20
  • Piggy: R20, R21 and R22. Hoofs: N0 and R01
  • Cake: E35 and E37
  • Green: YG06
  • Orange: YR04
  • Yellow: Y18
  •  Hot Pink: RV04

I have wanted to experiment with flock for a while, so I thought these balloons would be a cool place to check it out. I used the same colors as the Glitz Gels.

I first used Deco Foil Transfer Gel Blanco and painted it onto the “kitty” balloon. Then I waited about an hour for it to set, and added a small piece of the flock face down on the balloon. I used my household parchment paper to make an envelope and ran it through my laminator on the hot setting.

I repeated this step for each balloon using different colors. I thought the results were super cute!

It's Your Birthday! Card by April Guest Designer Jennifer Hartsgrove | Newton's Birthday Balloons Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Next, I cut out two Stitched Scalloped Circle Frames from Lawn Fawn. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do with them yet. So I tried two different ideas. I ultimately decided to use NND’s Cloud Stencil with Tumble Glass Oxide Ink to make a cute sky background. I tried some Electro-Pop Neon Enamel on the outer circle, but wasn’t happy with the color combo, I decided to keep the scalloped circle white. I then trimmed three pieces of my Confetti stencil pieces to 1.25″ x 4″, looking for sections that didn’t have any tearing. I adhered them to a 5.25″ x 4″ base, leaving a little room on the top and the bottom. Then I added my circle and scalloped edge a little over the edge of the card, then trimmed off the overhang.

It's Your Birthday! Card by April Guest Designer Jennifer Hartsgrove | Newton's Birthday Balloons Stamp Set, Oink Stamp Set, Clouds Stencil and Confetti Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
Next, I added Newton in the sky, where the balloons are whisking him up, up and away. Then added the little piggy holding the cake with foam on the bottom left hand corner. I wanted some interest on my sentiment strip, so I decided to make diagonal stripes of color going across the sentiment, “It’s your Birthday.” I used foam for dimension under the sentiment as well.

When I assembled my card, I didn’t care for the empty white spaces. So at the last minute I added some coordinating colors to the spaces. I was very happy with this result. My finishing touch was to add three green rhinestones from my stash onto my card. Then I made a card base out of neon green Bazzill Cardstock, and glued my card panel to the base.

This is a much brighter project than I’m used to doing! But I love it! It was fun to dig out my laminator and learn how to flock!

Oink Trio of Birthday Cards by Ellen Haxelmans

Pig Birthday Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Oink Stamp Set, Frames Squared and Frames & Flags Die Sets and Confetti Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

Squeal! You'll Love with These Piggy Cards by Ellen!

Today we have a trio of adorable piggy cards created by Ellen! She used the adorable pig images from our Oink Stamp Set to create three fun pig cards! For the first card (shown above) she used the piggy with the birthday cake. She colored the image and used the coordinating Oink Die Set to cut the image out. Then she layered it over a fun yellow splattered background that was cut out using our
Frames Squared Die Set.

If you like this splattered look on this little background piece, scroll to the end of this post for instructions on how to do this technique!

For the background she used our  for the large scalloped border. She also cut out the stitched rectangle using our Frames & Flags Die Set and stenciled confetti on it using our Confetti Stencil.

For the second piggy card, Ellen used the image of the pig with the big bow from our Oink Stamp Set and paired him with a pie slice from our Newton's Thanksgiving Stamp Set. So cute! She cut the images out with the coordinating Oink Die Set and Newton's Thanksgiving Die Set. She used a similar layout as the last card, adding layers using our Frames & Flags Die Set and Frames Squared Die Set. This time she used the Hardwood Stencil for the background panel.

Pig Birthday Card by Ellen Haxelmans | Oink Stamp Set, Frames Squared and Frames & Flags Die Sets and Bubbly Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade
The third piggy card using the cute image of the pig from our Oink Stamp Set lying on the ground. This time she paired the pig with the champagne glass from the Newton's New Year Stamp Set  and party hat from the Newton Celebrates Stamp Set. She used the coordinating dies to cut the pieces out and layered them again with shapes from our Frames & Flags Die Set and Frames Squared Die Set. On this card she also used our Bubbly Stencil for the background bubbles and added the "sip happens" sentiment from our Wine a Little Stamp Set.

Here's a little tutorial from Ellen on how to make the Splattered Backgrounds!

Splatter Background by Ellen Haxelmans | Frames Squared Die Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnook #handmade

  • First apply your ink. It's best to use an ink that reacts with water like Distress ink or Oxide inks. I used Oxide inks. After that I used water. For this I use a mini mister with water. Take out the nozzle and tap with your finger on it. The water drops will fall on your paper. Wait till you see the ink reaction from the water and then dab wet areas away with a towel.
  • You can do the same ‘tapping’ technique with white Dylusions White Linen ink. The only difference is that I heat it with my heat gun to dry.
  • The last step is to apply a glimmer ink. For this I use Glitter Sprays are my favorite. After you sprinkled the ink, you dab the ink off with a towel.
