Obidiahs Deserter Cavalry and Gunners as singles plus new free game booklets!

We are delighted to follow up on last month and 5006 Obidiahs Army with two more classic Flintloque sets now in new molds and expanded out onto the website for 2021.  From the late 1990's it is 5108 Obidiahs Cavalry and 54501 Obidiahs Army.  Go HERE for the deserter army or read on for more.

The story of former Sergeant of the 62nd Foote now turned General of the Deserter Army Obidiah Hogswill is one of murder and greed.  One of the most eclectic and interesting armies in the World of Valon you will find many different races and ranks within it but all with one thing in common; that their own armies want to see them swing from a rope!

The Scumnificent Seven

Bizarre and brutal, the fourteen distinct personalities that make up Obidiah's Cavalry are a strange and unpredictable lot. Often mistaken for an escaped circus act, these seven deadly sins of the equestrian world are a maelstrom of oddities that their enemies rarely experience twice. That there is rivalry between some of the riders of this beastly bunch can not be denied. More surprising is the animosity between some of the mounts themselves. While fists often fly after an excess of ale, hooves and horns often join in as the respective animals stand up for their owners. All of the members of Obidiah's Cavalry respect and care for their beasts far more than they do for each other and this is often evident on the battlefield.  See the seven single cavalry miniatures and the full set with saving.

Bang and Boom

Drawn to the Deserter General like months to a roaring flame the six rascals who man the artillery for Obidiah are each trouble in their own right. Gorgie Best a former private in the 67th Foote and now the bucket handler for the cannon who likes a kick about. Paddhi Garcia rose to prominence as commander of the captured cannon; he has a colourful history having fought as a rebel in the Murphess Marshes and served in the Guardias de Infanteria Guinelia. Doll Floundas the legendary murdress, prostitute, folk heroine and petty thief from Londinium's slum infested rookeries has been the  subject of many a ribald pamphlet and like so many of these characters it is hard to tell fact from fiction. There are few scum bags as nasty as the fop Orie Ball.  Lyonesse was a playground for his sadism which extended beyond ill manners into the kind of depravity practised by the notorious Marquis de Slade. The Dwarves are renowned in Valon as artillerists of distinction and none more so than Henrich Blindenbuogar. The legendary Rat gunner Sweeney Bob was a fugitive from Orc justice, having been part of the army of  Bob 'Boy' McGroggy that was defeated in the doomed '45 rebellion. Having served as a artilleriest in the rebellion, and gained a useful reputation on account of the skill he displayed in laying guns against the Orcs.  See the six single characters and the full set with saving.  Use these six with any artillery piece and limber beasts.

See them HERE along with all the other deserters and a limited edition mounted General Obidiah too.

It is our intention to continue the growth of Flintloque in 2021 not only with brand new releases and with re-mastered existing packs but also with remolding and offering as singles other big sets such as these here.  There is so much to see in the World of Valon.

Following up on the excellent work Orcs in the Webbe did last month on a booklet for Obidiahs Army with 3rd edition Flintloque rules it is our pleasure in conjunction with this fantastic Flintloque resources website to bring you these! Go HERE for a new free booklet for Obidiahs Cavalry and HERE for Obidiahs Gun.  All the characters with updated (and in some cases totally new) game rules and mechanics.  Superb!

Thanks for Reading,

Orcs in the Webbe 2019 Advent Calendar

Every year Craig the 'Mad Welsh Wizard' over at Orcs in the Webbe organises an ADVENT CALENDAR made up of articles given by contributors in celebration of Flintloque and other games which are like it and feature fantastic fantasy.  These articles are all online to read for free as well as a huge archive not only of previous years advents but also masses of non seasonal content for these games.  Scenarios, optional rules, stories and more.  Go along and have a browse.

Of course it would be remiss of me not to blow my own trumpet at this time of year.  I contributed two articles to this years advent calendar both for Flintloque and on different subjects.  Here are some details and if you are keen then please have a read.

Doomloque
Playing Solo Games of Doom Squad with your Flintloque Miniatures.
Doom Squad is a solo play set of rules for special forces warfare..it covers 300 years of history including the Napoleonic Wars. I wonder if I can use my Flintloque miniatures with it?  Go HERE.

Blayderunner
A special Flintloque Mini-Game.
A small game in its own right using Flintloque rules or as part of a scenario for Flintloque we present 'Blayderunner'. Can your officers spot the Repents and retire them or will they be retired instead?  Go HERE.

Lastly you may have noticed the new pictures of the superb classic pack 54013 Dismounted Dragoons. This pack has been re-molded this month and is the tip of a project which will be happening in 2020. We hope you like the new pictures on its page and these Orcs are great for skirmishing or being part of a unit in mass battle too.

Merry Christmas!

Alternative Armies titles in print and digital download

I would like begin by thanking our customers for their continued support of Alternative Armies as we near 2020 while still expanding and adding new items every single month across many of our ranges.  We do not often speak of our game titles as an entity..but they are. These titles often link to a miniatures line such as Flintloque or Furioso or they stand alone for use with any miniatures such as USEME or Doom Squad.  We offer the books in print and we offer many of them as paid digital downloads too.

We have three collections of titles on the website which includes The Ion Age which returned to Alternative Armies this year.  Here are the direct links:

Here at Alternative Armies I am often the face of the company (and an ugly mug it is too!) the little arrowhead on black next to my name.  We like to talk about our miniatures, our games, ideas and more.  We have places for this and if you are keen I would welcome you there.  Here are the links.

Thank you for Reading,

Article 13 There's only one Lady Wintermore by Andy Jefcoate

Congratulations to Andy as he not only passes the dozen count in terms of articles on his Flintloque journey but also his longest article to date which is chock full of tabletop gaming ideas, fun and material.  This time he adds the more lethal woman in the Witchlands to his collection in the form of Lady Lamia Wintermore.  In all her forms and with her skeletal bodyguard she is now on the hunt for Saindoux and his band of survivors.   If you wish to read any of the previous articles (we recommend reading them in order) then follow this TAG on our blog. I would not cross her!  GBS

There's only one Lady Wintermore

As I mentioned in a previous article I've been planning on adding a named character to lead my Witchlands force for a while as it has increased in size. The Witchlands has a large number of named Vampyre characters to chose from that all have great background stories, but I wanted a character that fit in with my narrative. Article 8 explained how I added foot and mounted versions of Marshall Ney to my Ferach force so it was about time for me to do the same for the Dark Czar's minions. I also wanted a character that I could use for Slaughterloo at a later date, just like Marshall Ney.

There are some great contenders for this role. You've already seen a picture of my Scooby Doom figure along with his faithful companion Raggy, but while he is excellent in Flintloque he is more of a lone wolf (sorry Scooby, a lone dog). I also looked at Graf von Orlock but he is more of a schemer who leads from behind, whereas I wanted someone who would lead the pursuit. That led me (pardon the pun!) to the Margrave Ivan Wintermore who would fit the bill as a leader in Flintloque and a C-in-C or General in Slaughterloo but he is also the Colonel of the fearsome Liteupski Lancers. He will definitely join my forces at some point but it didn't seem right without his lancers too and I didn't need more cavalry just yet.

That was when I found her, Lady Lamia Wintermore, the wife of Ivan Wintermore. I've always liked the idea of a character being beauty and the beast and there is no doubt that she is both............

Lady Lamia Wintermore
I've already mentioned my obsession with Vampyres in earlier articles and in my opinion Lady Wintermore is the best and worst of Vampyre kind (and I mean that as a compliment). She was born to the great house of Dracsul and has often been a favoured weapon of the Star Wraith himself, being skilled in the intrigue and espionage that the great Vampyre houses are famous for. Her marriage to Ivan Wintermore ended a centuries-long feud between the two houses and made the Wintermores very powerful, but the power means that she has many enemies and few friends, with even her husband avoiding her whenever he can.

What makes her perfect for my narrative is that she has sworn to destroy the fleeing Elves after her part in the embarrassment at Moskova and she harbours a particular hatred for Marshall Ney.  There is also a mutual hatred between her and the Lady Rosafiend who joined the Emperor Mordred after his visit to the forgotten city of Vilnau, which I am also interested to bring into my games.

Although her preferred weapon is intrigue, in Flintloque Lady Wintermore is an Experienced / Guerrilla Vampyre so while she is only usually armed with a dagger she can look after herself if need be. She is often mounted on a Zombie Horse and moves at Light Cavalry rates. She has two spells from Vampyre Magicke (generated randomly) but in addition few males can resist her of any race. In the initiative stage of the turn she can chose any male target within 15cm and captivate them, which means that they count as already activated and can take no action this turn.

In Slaughterloo Lamia Wintermore is a general of average status, but is a competent commander. She can negate one Forced Manoeuvre card played on any unit in her division once per game and can also ignore two Command Indecision cards per game.

Lady Wintermore's Fangs
I couldn't go any further without mentioning this excellent and iconic box set for which the figures are all still available on the Alternative Armies web site, they contain some brilliant characters and will all eventually join my collection. There is also a free download of the book that went with the box game which has been adapted for Flintloque 3rd Edition by Craig Andrews. This is just excellent and I would recommend having a look at it.

I could write an article just on this set, but at this stage I just want to mention Madame Boniface. He was once a line officer in the Krautian Legion who after his reanimation performed so well that he was transmogrified into a Liche. He has become the Chief of Operations for Lady Wintermore and is often by her side. She likes for him to wear a ball gown and he finds this very appealing..............

What did I get?
First up I had to buy the limited edition figure LE025 Lady Wintermore on a horse. She is riding at full gallop while still looking aloof, this is a great figure.

Unlike Marshall Ney, Lady Wintermore already has a figure on foot available (5005I) from the Lady Wintermore's fangs boxed set. This shows the 'beast' side of her and she looks ready to shred anyone around her, so I had to have this figure too. From the boxed set I also bought a Madame Boniface figure (5005J). You have to really. Finally I bought a Lady Rosafiend figure (55016). While she won't join my narrative yet, I like the idea of a showdown in the future.

How did I paint them?
For Vampyres I always use a pale grey for their skin with red eyes so that it is easy to tell what they are on the table.

I looked at various colour schemes for Lady Wintermore but eventually had to use a mix of purple, pink and lilac as a homage to the artwork on the cover of 'Orcs in the Hills' issue 8. This works well and the colours stand out even amongst Napoleonique uniforms. While the clothing on the foot and mounted versions aren't exactly the same, by using similar colours they are tied nicely together.

For Lady Rosafiend I used a red and blue to match the Ferach Elf uniforms as well as giving her red hair. This was a visual indication of her 'current' allegiance to the Ferach side of the conflict.

Finally for Madame Boniface I used a pale blue and pink, and I'm not writing about dresses any more as it sounds like the commentary on a red carpet event!

The continuing narrative
Unfortunately for Saindoux, his contact with Marshall Ney has brought him to the attention of Lady Lamia Wintermore who leads a large undead force dedicated to destroying as many Elves as she can. She has therefore diverted much of her resource as she hopes that by targetting Saindoux she will also have a chance to catch Ney. If possible she would like to capture him alive as a gift for the Dark Czar but would 'enjoy' his company in the meantime

How have I converted my narrative to the tabletop
While she wouldn't dream of communicating directly with anyone other than another Vampyre or Liche, Lady Wintermore along with Madame Boniface and a small cadre of followers, has joined a scouting party made up of Cossacks and Werewolves in the hope of seeing her enemy up close. She has heard that Marshall Ney and a small relief force are en route to reinforce Saindoux and she would ideally like to catch him on the road.

The game is a simple one on a 6' x 4' table with a track leading from the middle of one short edge to the other. Marshall Ney and his force start the game on the track at one end of the table and have to cross the table and exit from the other short edge. For scenery I have just used my usual scattering of trees with a couple of small hills and some ruins.

The game is all about Ney, so if he crosses the table successfully then the Ferach force wins, but if he is 'killed' in hand to hand combat he is actually overpowered and captured so the Witchlands force wins. This means that he may not be shot at during the game as the Witchlands troops are too scared of Lady Wintermore to risk killing him. To add an extra complication, Ney is not known as the 'bravest of the brave' for nothing, he must be the last surviving Ferach figure to leave the table.

While I don't normally use points for my forces, this is potentially a big game for Flintloque points wise, so I've tried to balance the two forces each time I've played it. I also haven't set a turns limit as it's a fun game to play to its conclusion without rushing it.

I've used Lady Wintermore as a mounted figure each time, along with 3 Vampyres of which one is mounted and two are on foot, plus Madame Boniface on foot. With them are 8 mounted Zombiski Cossacks and 10 little Werewolves. This is potentially a devastating force due to the number of Vampyres so although Lady Wintermore is experienced, for the other Vampyres one is average and the other two are raw.

While I've kept the Witchlands force the same, I've varied the Ferach force. I've tried an all mounted force so as to move faster and included the Ogre Guard Cavalry to punch through the undead lines, but I've also tried a force where all were on foot which was slower but hugely outnumbered their opponents.

The most fun was probably the force on foot but it was a long game to play so not one to try if you're limited for time. It also created some great little narratives including a small group who were cut off from the main Ferach force, they charged 2 Vampyres and sacrificed themselves rather than delay Ney's escape but took one of the Vampyres down at the same time!

What's next
Firstly, thank you for getting this far, I know this is probably my longest article to date, so thank you for staying with me. As mentioned in my last article I still have lots of troops to tell you about including my Albion spies. I'll let you know how I get on in my next article.

Thank you for reading.

Cryptmass Eve and all about Valon the stones are falling!

Hello Flintloque Fans!

Welcome to the last days of 2015 and a treat.  A scenario from the next book in the Flintloque series of titles which will be released in 2016.  One of twelve linked and you can read it right now by clicking on this link and downloading it from our dropbox account HERE.  The scenario is the most oddball in the book and sees your section of characters not fighting any enemy but instead trying to dodge pieces of falling masonry from an exploded bridge while pack animals laden with powder charges gallop past. It is called 'Watch the Falling Masonry or Squishing in the Rain'. We hope you like it!

In addition to this sneak peek scenario from the next book presented on Orcs in the Webbe for the 24th December 2015 I have a short article that will be published on our blog in 2016 but you can read most of it now.  What will 'Retreat from Kooruna' the first campaign book for Flintloque 3rd edition be?  What will it contain?  What will you need to play it and can you play it alone?  This and more.  Please read on and Merry Cryptmass from all of us in Joccia...I mean Scotland!

See this over on Orcs in the Webbe now.

5029 Retreat to Kooruna
Flintloque 3rd Edition Campaign Book

It has been a while since the last book for Flintloque which was 5028 Beir & Bones.  Well the next book is going to be a bit different.  Its a campaign book and its title is going to be 5029 Retreat to Kooruna. The first 'campaign book' for Flintloque 3rd edition takes the game in a new direction and level of immersion not seen before.  In 2011 I put a series of questions to the Notables Yahoo Group concerning the existing parts, the narrative, expanding the scenarios, putting solo options in and more before asking for feedback and comments.  The feedback was excellent and added to the growing file of materials.  The finer tuning continued with play testing of scenarios and fantasy special rules along with character profiles and drafting during 2011.  I then ceased work on the campaign book until this year due to a number of factors including ill health.  The files have been brushed off and the cogs are now whirring once more on another new book for Flintloque.

I am going to outline the development of the Retreat to Kooruna campaign book here and on our blog each time something significant occurs you will see it here.  So from now until publication its going to be this way.  I am not setting a release date but you will see it coming as the book grows.  To those who have been waiting a long time for Kooruna I apologise (it was first muted in 2008) but we are on our way now.

Here are the salient goals of a Flintloque campaign book as decided by myself, by the rest of Alternative Armies and more than six hundred responses from the fan base for the game.  Its what you can look forward to in the packed pages of the book:

Create and Lead a Varied Section – Army of Albion
Let me start this with something that drove me nearly mad over two weeks and that was the request 'can we play as the Grand Alliance and as the Ferach Empire right from the start'.  The answer to that is no.  Sorry.  I tried and tried but to allow the creation of a section of characters who then make their way through a series of scenarios that differ widely and then try to make those same scenarios fit the same amount of creation from the 'enemy' side it not possible in the space the book permits.  It would hamper the experience all around.  In Retreat from Kooruna you will create a section of characters from the Grand Alliance or more namely the Army of Albion.  This section can be infantry, light infantry or cavalry but not artillery. This section can be Albion Orc, Joccian Ratman, Hob-Goblin or Goblin or even KGL Ogres any race in the Army of Albion. The way you approach each scenario in the campaign arc will see your Army of Albion section set challenges both big and small and developing through the experience with new characters joining and those who survive getting better.

Twelve Linked Scenarios
A dozen scenarios will be in the book. A dozen varied and challenging scenarios each with a great story, narrative, map, major and minor objectives.  The scenarios will feature ideas for miniatures to use as well as ways to expand them and how to play them solo as well.  Each is linked to the next.

Accessible and Tight Angle
Flintloque is a skirmish game and as such the scenarios will be created for character sections of between five and fifteen or so characters.  Every scenario will be very accessible with options of play.  This means that every scenario will be suitable for two players or one player with a solo mechanic replacement for the other human wargamer.  Scenarios may also have optional players to add in or remove as it suits them.  The campaign book has a wide scope across the whole Kooruna campaign but the scenarios each have a tight angle with great repeat play value.

What you Need to Play
You will require a single game book to play which in this case will be 5025 War in Catalucia which will give you all the rules mechanics needed.  While the campaign book will have extra unique mechanics and character profiles suiting its needs it will not provide the basic rules.  You would also benefit from the expansion book 5027 Grapeshotte for the game rules for artillery and weapons.  On top of this you will need the usual dice, measuring device and terrain as well as miniatures from Alternative Armies.  Certainly it would be ideal to have the exact miniatures needed for every scenario it will not be vital.  Suggestions for suitable miniatures will be made and you can use any miniatures from your collection that make sense to you.  Of course if you are playing a convention game or demonstration game you should use the right characters so as not to annoy your fellow players.

A New Race for Valon – The Dryadia
There will be an introduction to a new race for the World of Valon in the Kooruna book.  While not playing a big part but a fairly important one the Dryadia will feature in scenarios and as miniatures too.  Taking inspiration from real world history and culture the Dryadia are nomadic travellers of Urop with a fair hint of Wylde Magicke about them.  While personally courageous they are not soldiers and instead act as guides which will make quite a difference to the retreating Army of Albion.  Full rules for the Dryadia will be included in the book.

So there you have it.  This book will be a brilliant read.  It will be a treasured object that provides many hours of enjoyment before you even reach a wargaming table and once you do then it will amuse, challenge and invite re-play.  I will give you something that reminds of the days when wargaming was deep and meaningful and you got a lot for your money.  I just don't think that games created by committee give you the same degree of immersion that one mind can provide much like the writing of a novel.  Perhaps its just me...we will see.

Thanks for Reading.

OITW Annual Interview 2014 with Gavin Syme GBS

Its nearing years end and Christmas Eve is the day of the year where my annual interview with Orcs in the Webbe is published as the end of a month of excellent free articles.  Articles written by dedicated wargamers and hobbyists, creators, game designers and more.  I have had a couple of scenarios in this years advent as is my due as the man behind Flintloque.  You can see these scenarios in the listing of days for Advent 2014 on Orcs in the Webbe.

My annual interview with Craig Andrews takes a look at the year now done and forward a year to this point in the coming orbit around the sun.  It has grown over a decade in size and also in scope and this year topping the scales at over four thousand words it looks at the following.  Alternative Armies goals for 2015 and the development of the Von Rotte Legion and more.  15mm.co.uk moving into more 15mm fantasy in a big way and working with Loud Ninja Games.  The Ion Age and its doubling in size, the Planetary Militia, the Zin and its ambition to do something with 15mm science fiction that no other brand ever has.  There is a lot more than that to read of course including what I do in my spare time and news on Bedlum as well.  Enjoy the read.

For you see I am Flintloque but I am also the fellow who runs 15mm.co.uk and created the rapidly evolving The Ion Age too.  There may be others like me out there in the world of miniature wargaming who have so many hats...but not many.  If you want to chat with me then drop us an email and ask your wargaming questions.  I would love to hear from you all.

From everyone here at Alternative Armies we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hogmanay too!

Lady Lightening and the Dracci - Flintloque Scenario 2014 Advent Calendar

Today is the 18th of December and that means that the rip roaring Orcs in the Webbe advent calendar has reached the second day of my own contribution to its twenty four articles at one a day for the festive month of December.  This contribution is a Flintloque scenario written by myself in celebration of Craig Andrew's birthday and his love of all things Dracci.  I present Lady Lightening and the Dracci!

So what is the scenario.  Here is the introductory strap line from Orcs in the Webbe:

Atop a mountain in Central Urop the plot of the Dracci must be stopped by some Dwarves who have no idea what could occur if a female captive is given up to ancient magickes...

If that sounds appealing then please click through HERE to read the full memorial scenario and also my own designers notes at the end about the origins of the tale.  Enjoy!  Its a great scenario for two players or solo play.  The captive lady in the scenario was provided by the TOR1 Whipping Beam set while the Dwarves are Von Rotte Line.

There is one more article from me to go on the OITW Advent and its the annual Alternative Armies interview...will I survive against all of the probing questions?  What will you all learn about 2015? Roll on the 24th to find out.

Merry Cryptmas!

A Farewell to Two - Flintloque Scenario 2014 Advent Calendar

Today is the 5th of December and that means that the rip roaring Orcs in the Webbe advent calendar has reached the day of my own contibution to its twenty four articles at one a day for the festive month of December.  This contribution is a Flintloque scenario written by myself with assistance from Mark Lesney as a memorial to two great characters in the game world who have sadly died in the real world this year.

Yesterday I placed on the Alternative Armies blog a free PDF of statistics for both of these famous characters linked to their miniature packs.  You can find these by clicking on their names here:  Uncle Rogipoos and Bombardier Bedsforc.  If you wish to play the scenario you will need these free inserts.

So what is the scenario.  Here is the introductory strap line from Orcs in the Webbe:

Uncle Rogipoos and Bombardier Bedsforc face the evil Sproutoids and the roving Thumber Wumber Trees as they try to close the Vortex that wants to send them to the next world...

If that sounds appealing then please click through HERE to read the full memorial scenario and also my own designers notes at the end about the origins of the tale.  Enjoy!  Its a great scenario for two players or solo play.  The Trees in the scenario were represented by our own VNT5 Demonic Tree.

Today should be a day of celebration owing to the publication of this scenario which I spent a few days with and diced out the testing too but its not.  I actually feel rather sad....

Merry Cryptmass!

Preparing for the OITW Advent Calendar 2014 - Uncle Rogipoos Scenario

It is reaching that point in the year again where Flintloque fans begin to look forward to the annual advent calendar from Orcs in the Webbe.  A whole month of daily fun where the master of OITW Craig Andrews will be stunning and hurrahing his way through the Cryptmass Season with fiction, scenarios, articles, art and more all about the World of Valon.  Its getting to be a real tradition and I, on behalf of Alternative Armies, will be doing my part.

While I plan several items (no spoilers!) the focus of this post is about a Flintloque scenario for this years advent calendar in memory of a fine fellow and great fan of Flintloque who sadly passed away this year.  Mr Willcox was a very popular member of the Notables Yahoo Group who created a fictional character known as Uncle Rogipoos.  So keen were we all to know of this adventurer and to use him in our games that a set of miniatures (VLE10) were created to allow this to happen.

It is my intention to create a Flintloque scenario with the help of experienced wargames scenario writer Mark Lesney all about Uncle Rogipoos in a mad cap situation with a fellow rascal Villiam Bedsforc the 'Bombardier' (VLE12).  This also seemed fitting since the loss of the actor and comedian who inspired this miniature code also occurred this year.

The scenario will see the two of them pair up against the evil of the Sproutoids when the barriers of Magicke are at their weakest.  But will these Orcs save Valon or will the swirling vortex take them beyond their world and into the ultimate unknown?

You will be able to read this scenario for free in December.

Boundaries by Matthew Hartley at Orcs in the Webbe

Now up on Orcs in the Webbe (OITW) is the latest instalment of 'Tankard Tales' a series on Wargaming and sometimes on Flintloque written by author Matthew Hartley. These often have a special way at looking at the gaming world and this instalment is no different.  You can read it HERE.

A Hedge for Flintloque by Tony Harwood
As Craig Andrews puts it in his introduction to 'Boundaries' this is a short article in which a walk from one side of the country to the other forces a change in perception on how wargames deal with boundaries...

The Crimson Bunionette - Flintloque Mini Campaign at OITW

Captured by Ferach forces Bette awaits execution in the prison of a small fishing town, all is not lost however as her true love, Oratio 'Horny' Hornblairer, is just off the coast and is headed to rescue her with some stalwart Royule Albion Navie marines.

Now on Orcs in the Webbe you can find the last scenario of Matthew Hartley's 'A Rhyme for Our Time' Flintloque mini-campaign. Captured by Ferach forces Bette awaits execution in the prison of a small fishing town, all is not lost however as her true love, Oratio 'Horny' Hornblairer, is just off the coast and is headed to rescue her with some stalwart Royule Albion Navie marines in this classic scenario from the Flintloque Archives.

Go HERE on OITW to find this scenario and then seek the others from there.

Excellent work from Mr Hartley.

Wreakers by Matthew Hartley - A Flintloque Scenario at Orcs in the Webbe

Orcs in the Webbe: Today on Orcs in the Webbe another of Matthew Hartley's 'Flawed Gems' returns for your gaming pleasure. In 'Wreckers' we see some Orcs of Albion, forced into desperate measures by a harsh winter, lure a ship onto the rocks in a bid to claim the cargo as their own.

A classic Flintloque scenario now on the Orcs in the Webbe portal.  A great and different scenario which is well worth a read.  I have not played this one sadly but it looks like a lot of fun.  Have a look and may the gods of Valon aid you in your dice rolls. Spread the word!

Regiments of Foote in the Army of Greate Britorcn

This is going to be a big week for Alternative Armies and also when this blog really begins to move but more on that upon the morrow.  For now enjoy the above artwork by Edward Jackson and click on the link below that leads to Orcs in the Webbe.  Why you ask?

For this...

Written by yours truly in 2007 during the build up to Flintloque 3rd edition and its first book War in Catalucia I spent a weekend reading and re-reading every piece of Valon fiction from 1995 to 2007 gradually crafting a regimental list.  With over one hundred regiments each with its number, its name, its nickname along with lace colour and facing colours its a great resource now on OITW.

Have a look and see, if you are in the Untied Kingdom, where you would have been recruited from.

Thanks for Reading.

Orcs in the Webbe now hosting Barking Irons sci-fi content

This message was taken from the Notables Yahoo Group and I will wanted to tell all of you who are not members about it.  Craig Andrews is continuing his good work and expanding the Barking Irons Online material that is now at his Orcs in the Webbe.  Click on through if you are interested.  Thanks for Reading.  GBS

Heya Folks!

Three years ago today saw the launch of Barking Irons Online, an official online gaming portal for all of Alternative Armies' rulesets. When BIO passed into the West last year most of the Flintloque, Typhon and Erin content moved over onto Orcs in the Webbe with AA's blessing.

Today I can announce that we have also agreed with AA to host the science fiction content that previously graced BIO's hallowed pages. As we build up to Salute (where you can pick up the miniatures required to play through most of the scenarios) you can enjoy more and more of the BIO's sci fi content on it's new home within OITW. There's scenarios, campaigns and rules expansions for a swath of systems including The Ion Age's Firefight 2.0 and Moth as well as USEME and HOF Fire Team.

In this, the tenth year of Orcs in the Webbe, things are going to keep getting bigger and better. We have some great plans coming up and I can say with my hand on my heart and with more gusto than normal...

Keep the Flag Flying! (trust me, it'll be worth it!)

Orcs in the Webbe

OITW Homepage
Many people when they speak about Flintloque mention Orcs in the Hills.  A venerable and now deceased magazine that Alternative Armies used to promote and expand the game system back in the 1990's.  Though the magazine is gone one guy decided to make a little tweak to the name, calling it Orcs in the Webbe, and launched an online portal about his favourite black powder fantasy wargame.

Craig Andrews, known as the Mad Welsh Wizard to some, is that fellow and his Orcs in the Webbe portal is now probably the biggest free resource for those who seek the lore of the game.  I have personally contributed a lot of content to OITW over the years and all of it is there to read.  Previous editions, extra rules, scenarios, uniformation articles, background, interviews, fiction and more to browse.  There is also a Flintloque Archive for the way back when and such joys as Tankard Tales too.

In short I will be referring to Orcs in the Webbe on this blog (calling it OITW for short) and also Craig so I just wanted you all to know what it was about.  You can spend quite literally hours or even days on OITW reading, printing out, playing and lurking about.  It is a fantastic resource.

This December OITW will be doing its annual Advent Calendar of a month of articles and content, one per day.  The biggest month of the year for OITW in my opinion and I will be making my own contributions as always.
