Dwarven Moustache Hobbying video review Flintloque Beir and Bones

We were delighted to be tagged on X (formally Twitter) by Dwarven Moustache Hobbying who has just discovered a new love for the World of Valon.  He recently picked up our 5028 Beir & Bones Shilling Starter Set which contains a Flintloque game book by that name plus miniatures, bases and dice as well as sample scenarios.  It is a twenty minute video over on Youtube.

The video review goes over the contents of the ninety six page book which covers the ‘Uropean’ theatre of the Mordredian Wars and features his own painted set of the Ogre and Dwarves which come in the shilling pack.

As always we did not sponsor this video and we pass on our thanks to Dwarven Moustache Hobbying for his take on the Flintloque game.  We hope you enjoy.

Thanks for your time.

Sharkes Victory 1997 set remastered released and Flintloque news

Captain Sharke of the 105th Rifles is dead!  Or is he?  Believed murdered by the infamous Half-Elf Daniel La Roo the dashing raised from the ranks soldier is in fact still alive.  He is in hiding while secretly trying to foil a Ferach plot to assassinate the Iron Duke himself.  While Sergeant Harpy and the Rifleorcs mourn they are unaware of the danger posed to Wheeling-Turn.  Will Sharke save the day?

Originally released 1997 5004 Sharkes Victory was the first scenario set for Flintloque.  It contained a booklet of scenarios and special rules along with sixteen metal miniatures.  We have now remastered those miniatures and for the first time you can purchase the set with a saving or choose any single pose from it.

Lettered A to O we have Captain Sharke, Wheeling-Turn the Iron Duke, Sergeant Harpy, Augustus O’Toole, Colonel La Roo, Major D’Kless as well as foot and mounted Elves and Rifleorcs.  Useful characters for many other adventures as each comes with a resin base.

The original 1997 booklet for 5004 Sharkes Victory has been retired as it’s mechanics do not fit with Flintloque 3rd edition. Fear not.  In the works an overhauled and expanded booklet which will include all that was in the original by Marc Bacon with Mac Coxhead and more. The three scenarios updated to 3rd edition; new special rules and fiction too.  It will feature artwork by Edward Jackson (such as the above) and be published as a free to download booklet.

51024 4er Voltiguers: This remastered pack contains four different 28mm scale metal Elf light infantry armed with muskets.  These miniatures feature in 5004 Sharkes Victory and can be part of your Ferach sections too.  Choose from the pack or single poses within it.

54027 105th Rifle Skirmish: This remastered pack contains three different 28mm scale metal Orcs of the famous rifle regiment.  These miniatures feature in 5004 Sharkes Victory and can be part of your Greate Britorcn sections too.  Choose from the pack or single poses within it.

We like to give our customers a treat so there is always something free in every package shipped out by us here in Scotland.  Until August 5th it is part two of our Devilish Imps; four any scale miniatures.  Read about this in the ARTICLE.  Totally free in orders included automatically.

Thank you for reading and for supporting the largest range of black powder fantasy miniatures in the world.

Wulfmecha starts Flintloque with video review of 5024 Escape the Dark Czar Starter Set

It is not often we feature a video but today we are!  Hobbiest Wulfmecha has begun his fun journey into the best fantasy Napoleonic tabletop game in the world namely Flintloque!

We have a really nice beginners set for new players (though most existing players have got it too for the great ten character miniatures it contains) which eases you into the frozen Witchlands.  The Dark Czar has sprung his trap and now the Grande Armee du Norde is broken and retreating through the snow.  See 5024 Escape the Dark Czar!  Your jumping off point for Death in the Snow.

Here is the Youtube video linked up on our blog for you to watch where Wulfmecha goes into detail about the contents of the set, the rules booklet, the miniatures and more.

Aren't those Flintloque figures beautifully painted!

We hope you enjoy and if you would like to learn more then see our Begin in Flintloque page where the set is plus lots of free material such as scenarios to download and the miniatures and scenics which feature in these adventures.

Mr Saturdays Flintloque painted Vampyre and Zombies

In place of this month's planned Flintloque release (which will happen in October) we are pleased to present some pictures of Mr Saturday's own collection of the Undead in the World of Valon Range. Enjoy and next month it will all be swords and pistols by gad!

All of these miniatures can be found in the Undead Army of the Dark Czar collection which recently saw remastered Zombie Line, the return of the classic Deadloque Set (as a set and singles) and the new Zombie Colour Party pack. All great to bolt onto your 5024 Escape the Dark Czar beginners set

55509 Vampyre Officer. From the command set this is the 'dastardly' fellow as in the officer types for Slaughterloo. Along with a Liche such as Stalinov he leads a section of Zombies and Skeletons.

5002 Deadloque – K. Putritch. One of the very worn soldiers of the Dark Czar now little more than a Skeleton clutching a musket.

5002 Deadloque – N Fresh Zombie. A new recruit re-animated from the ranks of the 9eme Regt de Ligne formally in the service of the Emperor Mordred but no more.

5002 Deadloque – M Fresh Zombie. Replacing the collapsed bones of Private Oblitaritch this new shambler was once in the Imperial Guard cavalry of the Grande Armee du Norde but instead he has a musket and a single purpose now. Great paintwork and lovely to see.

Thanks for your time.

Comparing Deadloque to Escape the Dark Czar miniatures for Flintloque by request

By players request and following up on the re-mastering of 5002 Deadloque Miniatures Set and the adding of a seventeenth pose never seen before as well as updated Flintloque 3rd edition character stats for Gerard, his Elves and Gerard with his Zombies (see our Free Downloads page for this and a lot more) another wee article on the miniatures.

How do miniatures some twenty plus years apart in the Flintloque range compare?  5024 Escape the Dark Czar is the inheritor of Deadloque taking place in the same damnedable dead march out of the snow clad Witchlands.  So you asked..here you go (click to enlarge):

General de Brigade Hugo Saindoux led the 5th Brigade of the 1er Armee du Norde until it was routed and all but destroyed. He did have a private staff of three just to cook his meals but they are gone and all Hugo has left is a family heirloom a cooking pot which he refuses to leave behind. He is beloved by those who follow his leadership.

Soldat Ayers Quinte de Toux.  The contrast between the general and the only other Elf in the small group of survivors could not be more stark. Only a boy Ayers joined the 9eme Regiment de Ligne after a recruiting party came to his village outside Lyonesse.  He was starving.

Soldat Hulmutt Jucken is an embittered soul. The eighth in his mothers litter the world has not been kind to him. There was little to go around in the smokey hut that the pup called home and he could not wait to escape. The Army of the Dutchy of Neuterstadde was small just like the dutchy and it was called in its entirety for the Grande Armee du Norde.

Captain Boell Umfrage. A soldier of some experience who had served with Marshal Sault in Catalucia before joining the Grande Armee du Norde and marching for the Witchlands. Skilled in hunting and in scouting Boell was in the process of ranging ahead of the rest of his regiment when the hammer of the Dark Czar’s ambush fell. He is the only survivor of a hundred Ogres who fought several hundred Zombies to a standstill.

"The past is dim for the captain. Within him he feels a life that he no longer knows. Like a vice the hand of the Dark Czar is in his mind but now and again he remembers the smell of flowers though none grow in the Witchlands and the auburn hair and smile of a girl he does not know. He knows the art of war and of being a cavalryman. Unknown to the Captain and to the other Zombies they used to be troopers in the 23rd Regiment of Cuirassiers in the Army of Armorica and it was for this reason that they were lifted from the blood soaked ground and carefully reanimated to serve as cavalry once more. New names and goals but the same retained skills. Now on foot and with muskets taken from those who no more need of them the Zombies stalk the mortals."

The Zombies lack individuality (not a surprise but rather sad when taken with the above) in their ranks apart from a few such as the Savants in 5024 and long term notables such as Baditch.  Their sections are led by a Vampyre such as Grigori Dracsul and watched over by a K.G.B Liche like Stalinov who keeps order.  This is all explained in 5026 Death in the Snow game book.  Captain Preserovitch leads 'smarter zombies' who do not need a Liche and you can also find them as mounted infantry in their original role as cuirassiers.

If you would like to get into Flintloque then the great value beginners set is the place to do it.  Go to Beginning in Flintloque for the set as well as expansions and free material to read and download.

Despite the two decade difference in age it has been very satisfying to see and hear from Flintloque players that these newer resin miniatures fit right in with the metal ones.  We have had a number of Flintloque fans ask for a crossover full length scenario featuring both heroes.  I have some ideas and it might happen during 2022.  If you would like to read about the day that Gerard meets Saindoux do let me know.

Tabletop Fun June 2022

Across the world and the internet tabletop gamers, collectors, painters and players show off their miniatures and models bought from us or from our stockists such as Noble Knight Games. While the vast majority of these pass us by sometimes a kindly soul will show us their hobby results. Click on each picture on our blog to make it larger.

In this round up are six such results ranging from 15mm Historicals to 15mm Science Fiction, to The Ion Age as well as Flintloque and 28mm Fantasy. Where possible names and links have been provided and in each case a link to the website is present. Enjoy!

Tim Cook's Banneret of the Fleet! Tim painted up this 28mm Ion Age Miniature (IA002 in IB1 Retained Knights pack) as a Varlet Standard for his collection. He took several attempts at it but told us that he is happy with the effects and the basing he achieved. We agree!

The Failed Apprentice painted by Heroic Miniatures (see them on Instagram) a one piece miniature CA1-05 from The Wizard's Progress pack. Painted in a night time dead flesh scheme using Vallejo colours to be a Necromancer's aide perhaps. He gives more details on his account. But yuck! That really works.

The gallant South Mordor Regiment by Dances with Gnomes (see him on Instagram) his Slaughterloo Orc Line Unit using a photo editing program. One of the more famous regiments in the Army of Albion in a fierce battle with Armorican Elves and Diberian Werewolves. Featuring a scratch built Sergeant Obidiah speaking into his shako you can have your own unit with 54503 Orc Line including an officer and colour party.

Cai-Z popped up on the mighty 15mm Science Fiction group on Facebook and kindly permitted the use of this picture from his growing collection. HOF155 Dominator Sphere on the attack amid a lovely looking landscape. All those limbs will give anyone a hard time in combat!

Wargrunt Art (find them on Facebook) recently increased their 15mm historical forces with elements of Visigoths taken from our Isarus Dark Age Goths range. Lovely work on these and we often do not see these painted up. We hear he is now working on a Hun Army too.

This just in by Tony Aguilar for his DBA Army of the Konstantinian Byzantine list two stands of mounted Norman Knights. Lovely stuff and restored Tabletop Games 15mm range you can see in the Israrus pages of the website. Tony has added artillery and infantry to his army and it is looking very strong.

Theworkofshaitan superlative painting of Flintloque miniatures

It was my joy to be given permission over on Instagram where you can find Alternative Armies by a variety of hashtags to show these pictures of painted Flintloque miniatures by Mr Gladdis.  He goes by @theworkofshaitan if you wish to see more of his superlative brushwork.  See #alternativearmies for what we have been up to in totality on 'the Insta' platform.

The miniatures are taken from the Elves of Armorica Army on the website and these codes. Gui de Carcharoth leader of the fearsome Corps Imperial des Dragons elite dragoons (5105 choose this character on foot on drop down menu) with his helmet on his arm and eye patch.  There is also a dismounted Corps Imperial trooper with wolf pelt and musket (5105 single foot trooper).  The standard bearer of the 2eme Regt de Ligne (see 51041) as well as, on the left, a single Elf soldier with musket (from 51026) and a marching Elf soldier with musket at the back (from 51504 Elf Line).

The Elves of Mordred are the instigators of the Mordredian Wars and can be found in battle all over Urop and the Witchlands.  They feature in the 5024 Escape the Dark Czar beginners set as well as the 5025 War in Catalucia Shilling Starter Set too.  If you want to get into Flintloque these are the places to start.

Check out the brand new 55027 Zombie Line Colour Party. All is on our Blog under the Flintloque TAG.

Thank you for your time.

Flintloque painted by Mark Taylor January 2022

Welcome!  It is our great pleasure to present to fans of Flintloque and Slaughterloo some of the excellently painted miniatures from Mark Taylors collection.  Our thanks to him and enjoy.  On our blog click on the pictures to make them much larger and follow links if you like any of the figures.

We begin with Elves of Armorica the prime movers in the Mordredian Wars.  From left to right an Elf Voltiguer of the original 5001 Flintloque boxed set, a gunner from the 5101 Artillerie Cheval converted to hold a pistol, two Elf cavalry on foot taken from the 5005 Lady Wintermore's Fangs excellent set.  Lastly a veteran Elf of the 5103 Grenadier Garde de la Mordred the 'column' set.

The dead walk...in ranks!  In the frozen Witchlands the re-animated dead fight for the Dark Czar.  55508 Zombie Line carry their muskets and are joined by gunners and the officer from the 55501 Corpseov Artillery Crew.

For the Elves of Armorica light troops are vital in fighting any enemy.  Skirmishing ahead of the marching columns of infantry the 5001 Voltiguers with their tall plumes are led by an officer and sergeant of the 51518 Chassuers.

In the Garde the colours of the battalion are guarded by Elves armed with pikes and with axes such as the soldier from 5103 (pose D).  Dark Elves are enemies of the Ferach and they have some style such as the leader of 51001 Dark Elf Guerillas alongside the 53016 Hob Goblin Miser.  The men, even Elves, will get thirst and hungry so they desire the services of the 51048 Elf Vivandiere or that of the Surgeon from the 51503 Elf Field Hospital.

Standing firm against the predations of the Ferach Empire the mighty power of Greate Britorcn has legends among its troops.  From the newest 54057 Major Giglamps to the original Captain Sharke and Sergeant Harpy from 5001 Sharkes Rifles.  Lastly a sergeant armed with axe bladed spontoon from 54510 Orc Guard some big lads!

One company in every Orc Battalion is that of the grenadiers.  Typically the meanest Orcs and these 54509 Orc Grenadiers are excellent troops.

Some officers are heroes, some are aggressive or cowardly but this 54506 Orc Command officer is rather dastardly (he is certainly plotting something).  58503 Orc Deserter Infantry is an eclectic mix of soldiers who have defected to Obidiah's Deserter Army and in this case Mark has painted up his one armed artillery orc in his blues.  There are many small packs of Orc Infantry from different regiments of foot and here is a running soldier of 54007 62nd Foote Centre Company.  Rifleorc Tunge a classic from 5001 Sharkes Rifles

Lastly we have one of my favourite miniatures in the whole massive array of Flintloque miniatures a dismounted 54013 Orc Dragoon armed with a pistol; he could be a trooper or an officer.  There are many limited edition miniatures from the original Obidiah to the latest General Koda and Aide this is the VLE08 Orc Chaplin who features in 5027 Grapeshotte rules. 54019 Albion Marines such as those who serve upon the flag ship of Admiral Nelsorc can be asked for their opinions by that rarest of things a literate Orc such as 54502 Orc Camp Followers reporter 'Michal Beorc'.

We hope you enjoyed this selection from Mark Taylors lovely collection.  We did!

Obidiahs Army booklet for Flintloque updated and free at Orcs in the Webbe

Earlier this week Alternative Armies presented 5006 Obidiahs Army back to the World of Valon not only as a remolded set of sixteen characters but also as sixteen single miniatures too.  We are delighted now in co-operation with Craig Andrews over at the excellent Orcs in the Webbe resource site to offer the updated 2021 version of the free booklet that came with the box set.  Go HERE and then download from the link.

Seventeen pages of character profiles, scenario stubs, fiction and more all laid out with more pictures than ever and in a printer friendly format with no backdrops. Enjoy the read and well done to Orcs in the Webbe!

The Deserter Army makes use of races from all over Valon and thus it is the most eclectic force in the Flintloque game.  Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery and Commanders all feature.  Go HERE to see it all.

Look to our blog on Sunday for a brand new free scenario for Flintloque called 'Boom Boom Bonkins' which will see leading lady Dotti in a solo play adventure avoiding Orc Dragoons as she springs a surprise upon an ex-amore!

In the end all will submit to the tyranny of the once Sergeant Obidiah Hogswill..after all 'Muvver Says So'.
