Obidiahs Deserter Army set remolded and now singles!

We are delighted to present a classic Flintloque set now in new molds and expanded out onto the website for 2021.  From the late 1990's it is 5006 Obidiahs Army sixteen character miniatures on foot.  Go HERE for the deserter army or read on for more.

The Dwarf paused as Obidiah stirred in his sleep. The Orc‟s snoring became broken as he rolled over, mumbling incoherently “...git im muvver, shall y'no...”. Furtively glancing round the camp at the other sleeping forms of his deserter „comrades‟, Sven Nockwusrt silently thanked the gods which had seen him pull guard duty this night and thanked providence for giving him the opportunity that he craved. As Obidiah's guttural snoring rhythmically sounded around the camp once more, Sven cautiously moved towards the Orc and the object of his nefarious stalking - Obidiah's bicorne!

Since joining the deserter band two weeks previous, Sven had noticed the strange practice “General” Obidiah had of whispering and talking into his hat. Of course there could only be one explanation for this seemingly insane behaviour - it must contain some item of value, maybe gold or even a treasure map - yes, surely a treasure map!

Slowly, and with extreme care, Sven prised the bicorne from Obidiah‟s fingers and carried it carefully back to the smouldering ashes of the campfire. Sitting down, he opened the bicorne and looked inside... nothing? Nothing?!! Verdamndt!! Where was the treasure?! Surely the Orc wasn't so insane that he talked to his empty hat?! Mad enough to call a hat Muvver?!!!

It was a question for which Sven would never receive an answer. Before he could utter a sound, a swarthy calloused hand covered his mouth, whilst a knife was jammed up under his chin, burying itself deep within the Dwarf‟s brain.

Dropping the corpse to the ground, Obidiah licked his knife clean before picking his bicorne up off the floor. Stroking it affectionately, Obidiah whispered quietly;

"No one touches you Muvver, No one..."

So begins the story of former Sergeant of the 62nd Foote now turned General of the Deserter Army one Obidiah Hogswill.  One of the most eclectic and interesting armies in the World of Valon you will find many different races and ranks within it but all with one thing in common; that their own armies want to see them swing from a rope!

Giant and Loyal Allies of the Ferach Empire

The frigid, mountainous land of Skandavia is one of the northernmost nations of Valon. It is a very wild and undeveloped land known for its majestic coniferous forests and rocky landscape. Its many mountains appear to be very rounded from years of harsh weather and the grinding glaciers that once crept across the land. These mountain ranges form a natural barrier to many would-be conquerors such as the hideous Undead of the Witchlands and the snarling Werewolves of the Dieberian Tundra. It is here that you will find the Trolka, largest of the sentient races of Valon the giant relatives of the Trolls of the Darke Age. A Trolka is the nearest thing to the War Trolls that used to roam Valon. They survived the annulment of Wylde Magicke and stand some fifteen to twenty feet in height. In the struggle that exists between the forces of Albion and the Elven Empire of Armorica, the Skandavians have come down largely on the side of the Ferach and have put all of their efforts into furthering Mordred’s campaigns in Catalucia and the Witchlands. It is from the capital city Trellheim of Skandavia that officials direct the mighty industry of the nation in production for the front.

Although Trolka come mainly from Skandavia it is in the island nation of Copendaz that the majority of their more numerous but far smaller cousins the Trolkin. Most Trolkin are the height of Elves while Trolka tower over even the largest of Ogres. While the icy seas prevent incursion of Skandavia and Copendaz easily from the waters and the mountains prevent the Undead from sending large armies of conquest there are greater dangers in the Artorc Circle in the backward realm of Frozlande where monsters still roam. The massive walls of the Skandavian Imperial Palace tower above the bustling streets of the capital Trellheim and the eminently skilled workers labour in the shipyards constructing the hulls of his Imperial Majesty Mordred’s powerful warships, in an effort to reverse the terrible setback of the sea battle known as Trafalgore. These raw materials have proven vital to the war efforts of Armorica and her allies. Consequently, the Grand Alliance has recently tried to raid many towns, with massive Trolka Warriors fighting on both sides, in an effort to stop the flow of materials being shipped from Skandavia. Lord Bjornborg head of the Ferach alliance with the Trolka directs the movement of Trolka military forces from the Imperial palace until they are assigned to the various Corps in Mordred’s Armee. He has even taken to the field in order to hunt down the traitorous General Gustavus leader of the Trolka Companies that have pledged their loyalty to King Gorge and Albion.

The majority of Trolka fight with the Ferach and are the mightiest race known on Valon, they are massive soldiers with huge strength, able to uproot trees and lift items several tons in weight. While whole divisions of Trolka are rare even in the largest battles, due to the small number of these soldiers available, regiments of Trolka can be found anchoring the battle lines of the Elves in many theatres of the Wars. The ‘Rebel’ Trolka are in the service of the Grand Alliance.

Trolka and Trolkin are a great army to collect and play in Flintloque (see 5025 Death in the Snow) and in Slaughterloo (see 5030 Slaughterloo) with unique traits and the biggest regular soldiers it is possible to field.  There are Line, Jager, Artillery and Cavalry Trolka and there are Line, Jager, Artillery, Civilians and Personalities for Trolkin.  Each of them comes with a cartouche style base and is typically a single piece miniature.  Go HERE to browse.  Trolka stand 50mm tall and have a 30mm square base.

Trolkin Civilians are Flintloque release for July 2016!

The Trolka Army of Bob McAlister

As well as being a personal friend of mine from across the pond in the USA Mr McAlister, or Bob to his buddies, is a long term player and fan of Flintloque and Slaughterloo.  Recently he took some pictures of his impressive collection of Trolka and Trolkin.  The mighty Trolls of Skandavia and Copendaz are one of his favourite armies to field along with Joccian Ratmen and Von Rotte Dwarves.

This is Gen. Sven Svensson i'm here to tell you about my division of new recruits . I have only taken these new recruits out for field manoeuvres once and we did not have a full division, I was at half strength when I got the orders to engage the red line of Albion. The infantry unit of Fearch elves led the way with my smaller brethren the trolkin leading up the charge on my left. We advanced towards the enemy our flintloques belching out their smoke and ball but with so few troops we were not able to do much damage to that line. The moose riders tried to get in but were cut off and retreated.

My Trolka brothers got up and took many wounds and had to retreat in order to save themselves but not until we took some of theirs out. I think we surprised the Albions with our great strength, to take so much damage and not flinch. But as I said with a bunch of new recruits and at half strength we had to retreat to fight another day. I just received our order to advance into battle with an army of short legs. Now at full count I feel that it might be a victory.

Trolka of Skandavia released in Resin

As we announced a week ago and its now time the whole range of mighty Trolka of Skandavia have been re-mastered and now re-released in high quality resin. The Trolka of Skandavia are the biggest single piece miniatures in our huge 28mm scale Flintloque range standing an average 50mm tall and some 25mm across the belly. Big lads! Go HERE. 

The new price of each Trolka including a base is fifty percent less than it would have been as of this year remaining in white metal. So every Trolka will come with 30mm square resin cartouche base (or a 50mm by 25mm Cavalry base of the same type) and all of the infantry are resin with a few retaining white metal separate hands and weapons. The cavalry are mounted on a massive resin moose while the riders remain white metal. The gunners are all resin but the leather barrel cannon kit for them remains white metal. Trolka now in Resin re-releasing this month for Flintloque

Late on last year Alternative Armies withdrew the largest soldiers on Valon from regular release on our website.  The Trolka of Skandavia were the biggest single piece miniatures in our huge28mm scale Flintloque range standing an average 50mm tall and some 25mm across the belly.  Big lads! Fighting on the side of the Ferach Emperor Mordred they had line infantry, light infantry, cavalry and artillery all in white metal.  But no more.....

In a little over a week we will be re-releasing these miniatures re-mastered into high quality resin! While we will not be doing this with almost everything else in the range as we love white metal miniatures as do many wargamers for these huge fellows it made sense.  As a result the new price of each Trolka including a base is fifty percent less than it would have been as of this year remaining in white metal.  So every Trolka will come with 30mm square resin cartouche base (or a 50mm by 25mm Cavalry base of the same type) and all of the infantry are resin with a few retaining white metal separate hands and weapons.  The cavalry are going to be mounted on a massive now resin moose while the riders remain white metal.  The gunners are all resin but the leather barrel cannon kit for them remains white metal.

Trolkin Artillery Crew released for Flintloque and Slaughterloo!

Another release for the finest black powder fantasy range in the world for use with Flintloque and Slaughterloo. Alternative Armies is proud to present to you the newest addition to the Trolkin of Copendaz range following up on the Lergo Jagers last month month we have the Lergo Artillery! 57818 Lergo Artillery Crew 

This unit pack contains six one piece 28mm white metal miniatures and two grey tone resin 28mm limber beasts with separate white metal horns for a total of eight miniatures. This is a Trolkin artillery crew composed of an Officer (arms folded), Match (lit and pointing), Rammer (kneeling and pointing), Sponger (sponge and bucket), Ball (with cannon ball) and Trailspike (with wooden pole). Two identical Muskox's in limber harness suitable for pulling any field gun. Each Trolkin is larger and bulkier than an Elf and stands 30mm to eye level while a Muskox is 40mm long. LERGO ARTILLERIE 

The Trolkin are unlike any other race on Valon they are still somewhat Magicke and their differing skin colours (from grey to red and yellow too) show this along with their distinct fashion sense. Trolkin soldiers always seem to wear uniforms that are too small for them despite their outfitter the ‘Marske’ trading company delivering as many as they need. Lergo refers to the way their troops are raised, a unique modular system that choosing the Trolkin by standard height and different colours to make up formations that can be re-purposed again and again. The Trolkin gunners organise themselves into the formations that the Armorican Elves use and make use typically of medium weight cannon. All Trolkin serving the guns are designated as Gunners. The gunners are armed with their normal artillery implements with officers armed with a hidden pistol too. The Trolkin Artillery uniform consists of a dark blue tunic, white breeches, a black shako and black shoes. Facing colours (cuffs, collars, etc.) are green, trimmed in yellow. Equipment is black and brown, with equipment straps being of white leather.

The natural place for the Trolkin is in colder climes so it makes sense that the majority of their soldiers are in the Witchlands fighting against the Undead. Trolka and Trolkin enjoy some advantages in battling against Zombies and Skeletons and indeed their physical size and resilience stands them in good stead against Vampyres too.
