Free article Skeletrov Cossacks for Flintloque and Slaughterloo

Part one of two World of Valon articles to enjoy; next week for the other.  Following the recent release of the 55524 Skeletrov Cossacks we present the ‘Uniformation’ article for these bone riders for use in Flintloque and Slaughterloo.  Giving you their uniforms, game statistics and more.  See and download here or head for the Free Downloads page for everything for every system we publish.

Like a cloud of glittering snowflakes the cossack riders of the Dark Czar hound the Grande Armee du Norde circling ever around its trudging troops.  Skeletons and Zombies drawn from all over the vastness of the Witchlands dressed in a multitude of colours and atop silent dead mounts. The Skeletov Cossacks are numerous and remorseless on the battlefield sweeping in on isolated groups and putting them to the sword.  They are hunters and chasers.

The Skeletal Cossacks follow up on the Moskova Volunteers expanding the ranks as we move towards an entire new division of the dead to oppose the Emperor Mordred and his Elves.

55524 Skeletov Cossacks: This code contains five different 28mm scale metal Skeletal riders and five Skeletal Horses.  Dressed in robes these Cossacks of the Donne are armed with curved sabres with bone hilts.  An officer with pistol, musician with horn, standard bearer with pole and two poses of trooper.

The horses are supplied with two pieces (55524H) easily assembled. As with all larger codes you can choose from the set of five riders with five horses or a unit of ten with a saving or a single pose with horse. Supplied with our resin cartouche style bases.

Uniformation Skeletov Cossacks:  A two page PDF with game rules for Flintloque and Slaughterloo. CLICK HERE to Download or visit the Free Downloads page for this and a vast array of free resources.

Get into Flintloque by taking the side of Mordred or the Dark Czar…. 5026 Death in the Snow.

The second article to come is a full size solo or two player Flintloque scenario which sees a patrol of hungry and tired Elf Dragoons having to drive off Cossacks before the infantry following them draw near....in Another Dawn...

Skeletov Cossacks new for Flintloque and Slaughterloo

Like a cloud of glittering snowflakes the cossack riders of the Dark Czar hound the Grande Armee du Norde circling ever around its trudging troops.  Skeletons and Zombies drawn from all over the vastness of the Witchlands dressed in a multitude of colours and atop silent dead mounts. The Skeletov Cossacks are numerous and remorseless on the battlefield sweeping in on isolated groups and putting them to the sword.  They are hunters and chasers.

New releases for Flintloque and Slaughterloo who take the side of the Undead of the Witchlands.  The new Skeletal Cossacks follow up on the Moskova Volunteers expanding the ranks as we move towards an entire new division of the dead to oppose the Emperor Mordred and his Elves.

A horse made of nothing but animated bone? Indeed.  You can purchase 55524H Skeletal Horse (as used by 55524) on its own.  A two part metal miniature of two halves which fit together giving a hollow rib cage. Saddled and will fit most Human sized horse riders. Now in our Battlefield Bits Range with many other mounts and other useful things.

An article will come in late May 2025 which will give Flintloque and Slaughterloo game rules for these new cavalry of the Dark Czar.  It will also feature a Flintloque scenario set in the Witchlands which sees a patrol of Elf Dragoons ambushed by Skeletov Cossacks.  This will be a free article and download.

Get started with Flintloque or expand your collection with characters using 5024 Escape the Dark Czar beginners set which comes with rules and scenarios booklet as well as ten resin miniatures with bases and dice.  An ideal core to start you.

Here is a line up of a 55508 Zombie Line Infantry with musket next to a new Skeletal Cossack and one of the mounted Zombie Cuirassiers from 5024.

The 'volunteers' of the charnel city of Moskova and other places of the Witchlands. Often effective when used en-masse the Skeletons of the Moskova Volunteers are poor troops but they are effective against lesser enemies such as Militia or Landwehr.  Choose from packs 55028,55029,55030,55031 and 55032 (with single choices within them) or 55523 Moskova Volunteers a mighty 28 miniature unit with saving.

Moskova Volunteers 20 new Undead Flintloque miniatures and more...

Often effective when used en-masse the Skeletons of the Moskova Volunteers are poor troops but they are effective against lesser mortal enemies such as enemy Militia or Landwehr. They operate in sections of about twenty armed with Standard Carbines or Dwarf MkI Muskets officers are typically Ghouls with sword. Their uniform consists of various civilian clothing along with some odd bits of military equipment, browns and blue are common.  They are legion and also have supporting artillery and other arms.

A huge end to the year for Flintloque and Slaughterloo plus the last regular releases of 2024 and the Winter Mega Event too. Added to the Army of the Witchlands are twenty new poses as packs (with single choices within them) and a twenty eight pose Slaughterloo unit with saving of all poses. In 28mm scale and metal with included resin free bases we present the Skeletons of the damned, the fleshless and the worn out...the ‘volunteers’.

55028 Moskova Volunteer Muskets: This pack contains the more ‘fortunate’ Skeletons of the Militia armed with captured Ferach Muskets.  Single poses are A to D as shown on the page.

55029 Moskova Volunteer Melee:  The former villagers and townfolk of the Witchlands are in this pack armed with hand weapons.  Single poses are A with Axe, B with pitchfork, C with bladed staff and D with wooden mallet as found on the page.

55030 Moskova Volunteer Command:  It is the lowest of roles in the Army of the Dark Czar to command the militia but still it must be done.  This pack contains four poses which are Ghoul Officer (A), low ranking KGB Liche (B) and two Skeletons armed with muskets and wooden mallets (C and D).  The office and liche can be used with other formations such as Zombie Line (55508).

55031 Moskova Volunteer Colour Party:  As the battalions of the skeletal volunteers advance it is to the sound of rattling drums and the vision of ragged flags.  This pack contains a standard bearer (A), a drummer (B), a Sergeant (C) and lastly with pose D a hopping mad private missing a leg using its musket as a crutch.

55032 Moskova Volunteer Pikes:  This pack contains skeletons who are better armed than the worst but not possessing firelocks.  Two poses with pikes (A and B) and two poses with axe bladed polearms (C and D).  Typically Militia formations will have many more pikes, blades and melee weapons rather than muskets.

55523 Moskova Militia Skeletons:  This full Slaughterloo Unit contains twenty eight miniatures along with their bases included free. There is a saving off packs and singles in the unit.  Led by a Ghoul Officer with KBG Liche and full colour party as well as skeletons with muskets, pikes, axes and more.  A total of twenty different poses with eight further troopers added for the total unit.  See 5030 Slaughterloo for game rules. Codes contained are: 55030,55031,55028, 55029, 55032.

Here are some side by side pictures of other codes in the Witchlands next to the new Skeletons.  General Bardaghul as well as Stalinov and the Zombie Colour Party Sergeant.

World of Valon News for December

Any adventure in the Witchlands starts with the Flintloque beginners set 5024 Escape the Dark Czar which contains ten miniatures, core rules and more giving you General Saindoux and setting off on the Retreat from Moskova.  There are many free scenarios and more as links at the top of the Begin in Flintloque page.  Once you are confident of the game or you wish to go in with the full rules and setting then you will want 5026 Death in the Snow or its SSP02 Shilling Starter Pack.  Adventures are boundless in the barren frozen wastes of the Witchlands.

There are some treats coming during December for the World of Valon. Three articles to read, to play and to enjoy which each involves the Moskova Volunteers.  Each will be announced and given freely.  A free full size Flintloque scenario for two players or solo play which sees General Saindoux and his band of survivors surprised by a numerically superior Undead force. A ‘Uniformation’ expanding the game rules and statistics for the Witchlands Volunteers as well as Undead Cossacks in Slaughterloo as well as Flintloque. Lastly over on Orcs in the Webbe a solo play simple game in which an Elvish Drummer Boy has a bad night trying to evade Skeletons among petrified trees.  Great fun!

An Alternate Seven Years War using Flintloque Dogmen

With kind permission we share a link to a fantastic ‘Imagi-nations’ blog by a veteran American wargamer of some 45 years of play.  His setting and rules are his own but the miniatures used are all from the World of Valon range.  The blog is called Dog Wars - Alternative Seven Years War and is updated regularly with super pictures and battle reports.  Enjoy

Every article has many images covering the flow of events. The miniatures you see are all from the Pudigrochumberg Dogmen Army with a great many being the favoured 56597 Pudigroan Grenadiers in tall mitres. All Flintloque miniatures come as skirmish sets or units with saving as well as choice of single poses.

The author of the blog welcomes views and input and if you would like to see how the current campaign is progressing then pop on over and say hello.

There is his previous blog which features Flintloque miniatures as well.

Thanks for Reading!

VLE17 Major Caden Penmervorc very limited edition Flintloque release

“An amiable fellow and a fine officer Caden Penmervorc has served in many regiments since he left his native Cornwulle. Gradually raising in rank he once served as cook to General Wheeling-Turn while stationed on the Isle of Wights. As a result he makes excellent pasties and is rather a good shot with a pistol. Currently attached to the 2nd Heavy Dragoons in Catalucia.”

We are delighted to present the seventeenth very limited edition code for Flintloque and Slaughterloo. Very Limited means the code has 250 numbered packs produced and supplied numbered before the mold is destroyed and it is gone forever. It joins our range of Limited Editions which covers the standard 1000 pack limited, the very limited at 250 and the limited edition units at 100 sets only.  Above Major Penmervorc is in the high plains of Catalucia standing watch over a Handcart loaded with provisions for his lads.

Rules for the use of this character in Flintloque and Slaughterloo are on the website page for VLE17.  Try him out on the table!

VLE17 Major Caden Penmervorc: This code contains three miniatures in 28mm scale. The same character on foot and mounted (metal) on a horse (resin).  Comes with two separate hands (pistol and sword) and is supplied with resin cartouche bases. Sculpted by Nikki Chatwin.  Supplied in a pack with its unique number for collectors.  Shown on page with 5024 Escape the Dark Czar leader of the Ferach forces General Saindoux.

Add to your Greate Britorcn forces the untied kingdom of Orcs, Ratmen, Hob Goblins and Bog Orcs with their Ogre allies. The 2nd Heavy Dragoons have mounted riders and foot infantry among their codes which you can see on this refined search for DRAGOONS.  Dragoons are excellent for Flintloque for skirmishing as scouts and rescue scenarios.

In the service of the Dark Czar death is a certainty for all.  In fact most are dead before coming into his service by courtesy of the Graviski Re-animator crew.  Zombies rot away and become skeletons before crumbling to snow pattered dust.  The loss of a head is the end in all cases...but not quite.  Something of an oddity even among the Undead is Nikita Hedloski who has lost his noggin but keeps on going.  Attached to the 9th Corpseov Fusiliers he aids in command.  VLE16 Nikita Hedloski Zombie NCO.

We like to give our customers a treat so there is always something free in every package shipped out by us here in Scotland.  Until August 5th it is part two of our Devilish Imps; four any scale miniatures.  Read about this in the ARTICLE.  Totally free in orders included automatically.

Thank you for reading and for supporting the deepest longest and largest range of black powder fantasy miniatures in the world.

The Demon Drink a Barrel of Booze in Flintloque and Slaughterloo

As requested by fans of the World of Valon a playtest rules article containing rules for using 59547 Barrel of Bottles from our 28mm Terrain Range in your games of Flintloque and Slaughterlo.

These rules can be used in play with all players agreement.  Enjoy and we welcome any questions to sales@alternative-armies.com and we are happy to help.

(54050 Valon Civilians protecting the drinks...)

Keeping the discipline of an army on the march is a hard task indeed, and few aspects of keeping discipline are as challenging as the lure of alcohol. Soldiers of all kinds love to drink, the ‘demon drinke’ as the Joccian’s call it (and they imbibe more than most!) and ensuring that these soldiers arrive for a fight sober is not easy. The constant threat of death, injury and receiving pay that is often worse than that given to an Otharmann galley slave makes the attraction of booze all the stronger.

For Flintloque the following game mechanics:

‘Woz that? I smell’s juniyper!’

You can place the barrel of bottles into any scenario you wish in any setting from the Witchlands to Catalucia to the streets of Londinium.  You may place more than one barrel if you want but ensure no barrel is within 30cm of any other.  Place the first barrel on a road as if it has fallen from a cart or at the wall of an inn or somewhere that makes sense; even in the woods as it might be a secret stash!

During play any mortal character who comes within 5cm of the Barrel of Bottles can choose to drink something from it.  This is in the case of characters who are Elite or Regular or higher experience level.  Raw characters and Civilian characters will automatically choose to drink.  Othari characters will not take a drink.  The Undead will not but Vampyres may if they near.

The effects of a random bottle are not always for the bad.  They could be good or they could be useful.  It takes one action to try a bottle and then make a D10 roll for its contents and effect.

0 – It is pure firewater!  The character spits it out but the bottle can be used as a Fyre Grenade in play.

1-2 It is cordial water.  The character drinks and it tastes just fine but does nothing else.

3-6 It is the Demon Drink.  The character rolls a D10 on an odd result they drink deep, on evens they do not.

7-9 It is Good Stuff.  A fortifying remedy.  The character is refreshed.

If it is Firewater then it cannot be drunk but can be lit and thrown which is very useful in the Witchlands.  See the game books for Grenade rules.  Cordial Water is safe to drink but does nothing at all though if you choose it might be valuable in a hot climate.  The Demon Drink on a result of drinking deep means the character is enfeebled by booze for rest of the scenario.  They lose 20% of their movement rates and suffer a -3 to Melee Combat and -20% accuracy on all shooting and they may not aim.  The Good Stuff is a tonic possibly slightly Magicke in its making.  The character chooses one of the following boons which lasts for the rest of the scenario.  +10% Accuracy on all shooting or +10% to Movement Rates or +1 to Discipline.

A character may spend as many actions on drinking bottles as they wish BUT.  They may not pass a bottle to another and they may not take any bonus more than once and if they get a Demon Drink enfeeblement result TWICE they are then rendered unconscious for the rest of the scenario and fall where they stand.

(Todoroni of Nepolise are fine diners and use their servants to eat well even on campaign)

For Slaughterloo the barrel of bottles is more of a temptation or a treat for a lucky or unlucky unit on the battlefield.  The barrel is placed on the battlefield in a suitable place as with Flintloque on a road or near a building or where it makes sense to the player.  It is recommended only one barrel per game but you can have several if players agree.

The following game mechanics do not apply to Undead units or Othari units.  All other units which are on foot and not artillery (not cavalry) will act upon the barrel if their movement action takes their edge within 10cm of the barrel.  When this happens the barrel is moved into the ranks of that unit and a D6 roll is made upon the unit’s activation for the next three turns.

1 to 3 – Demon Drink!  The unit loses its free (no form roll) action for this activation.

4 It’s Bloody Water! No effect on the unit.

5-6 – Joyous Tonic!  The unit gains one additional free (no form roll) action for this activation.

‘Only a Drop, sir, honest...hic!’

You can use any model to represent the barrel of bottles on your table such as 59531 Beer Barrel Barricade or 59523 Abandoned Beer Wagon for instance.
