Fog of War Scenario by Vic Dobson

Welcome to Fog of War a DarkeStorme scenario for two players. In this game two groups of warriors search the ruins of a village shrouded in a thick veil of magicke fog, searching for a long lost book once owned by a infamous and powerful magician! Both sides are looking for the legendary lost Book of Borganza, an Arcane Libram (spell-book) that once belonged to the ancient and powerful Mage Borganza the Wylde. The lost book now lies somewhere in the ruins of a long abandoned village in a valley shrouded by a thick magicke fog. DarkeStorme High Fantasy Rules for 28mm and 15mm scales

“The Battles of ‘The Darke Age’ are fought in all places of Valon to a differing extent. From isolated groups separated from their Army fighting individual duels and skirmishes, to larger formations separated a great distance from others of their own Race waging private warfare in an effort to return to where they came from. Others still serve as Free Companies, Mercenaries fighting for pay and shelter.

The Dracci Hordes and Undead Legions are everywhere clashing not only with each other but also with those who happen to be in their path. Now the storm of the conflict has focused on Alevia, the region of the Central Continent that by misfortune of geography is the path both north and south between the Placidic and Karenian seas. Alevia was once a full Colony of the Crystal Empire. It borders with the outer Provinces of the High Elves and with the lands held by the Dwarves to the edge of the countless trees that form the Catalucian Forest of the Wood Elves. Alevia is not now what it once was, the fair green fields of wheat and fat grazing animals, winding tracks and villages have now been replaced by churned heaped mires of decomposing bodies.

It is in Alevia that the mighty mass of both the Dracci Invasion Horde and the Undead multitude that crossed the Tigiris at Scarsiamort met and cut each other to pieces. In addition the Dwarf Soldiers of the Krautan League attempt to repulse Dracci advances into their states. Dracci Hordes and Undead remain in Alevia in large numbers warily circling each other. They lock horns continually and they both clash with the Border Regiments of the Crystal Empire, defending the open passes into the Province of Ocame. The forces of Man fight at the side of the Wood Elves on the edge of the dense forest. The fate of Alevia was not always doomed to be this way. Before the arrival of the Undead from the north and the Dracci Invasion Horde with its Lizardman contingents advanced from the south, a brief time existed for preparation in defending the then Colony....”

28mm and 15mm Scale Play

When you decide to play a game of DarkeStorme you will need to decide which scale of miniature you are going to use in play. This set of rules caters for 28mm scale and also 15mm scale fantasy miniatures. The book is laid out ASSUMING you are using 28mm scale miniatures in your games and gives all ranges and rates of movement etc in INCHES. Use inches for 28mm scale play. If you are playing with 15mm scale miniatures then transposing the mechanics of play is very simple. All rules remain the same unless otherwise noted and all movement rates and ranges etc given in the book as inches are changed to the same distance in CENTIMETRES.

VNT40 Scorpion Scourge skuttling out now!

“The Barbarian kicked the door with a force no other member of the party could ever hope to match.  His fur clad boot splintering the wooden planks and the frame holding them too.  As the wood, now only good for a cooking fire, exploded into the room beyond the corridor the Barbarian stepped back and raised his  axe ready for any attack.  Silence came from within the room.  No Goblins or Night Horrors awaited the adventurers. “Kandar was a warrior. He was the fiercest fighter that the land of Thagul had ever produced and his name was legend among the tribes. Now he stood at the shore of the cursed lake with sword in hand ready to kill the demon which had plagued the fishers these past months. The simple folk of the lake had spoken in hushed tones of an orange rock which moved and then reached up into their boats plucking them like fish on a line out and then down into the water. From the lake came the top of an orange rock as had been witnessed. He stood his ground with no fear of a rock. The rock grew wider and taller as it moved toward him and soon it was clearly not a rock but a body. Nearer and shallower it came, legs before feet as it stepped from the water to the land. Kandar raised his sword and then paused as two black beady eyes looked down at him. What was this thing? It towered over the warrior and it stank of the corruption of crab meat. Its arms ended in pincer claws one of which was massively bigger than the other. With a roar of defiance Kandar charged, sword raised, at the monster. Its arm came up and neatly snapped the blade of the sword as if it was grass to the scythe. The warrior ducked and slammed the broken blade into its mid rift; it shattered on connection. The larger arm came down and caught the warrior around the waist and then lifted him off the ground. Where was the glory in this Kander thought as he drummed his fists against the orange carapace of the arm. Then with a simple closing snip the monster turned Kander to two with no effort at all.”

Thanks for taking the time to come to this article for this is a first for Alternative Armies and for me too. DarkeStorme our high fantasy skirmish level wargame rules is now on our website as a paid for digital download. It is excellent value containing the book, the book covers, a folder of add on files and as a bonus the scenarios of 'Murder at Innstadde' are there for free too. All for just 6.00GBP. It works with any 28mm fantasy miniatures including our own extensive range of fantasy miniatures. We will be basing our choice as to future digital downloads of our books such as Erin, Typhon and Flintloque on wargamers reaction to this release. The process of purchasing a digital download from the Alternative Armies website is straight forward and works as follows. Any product which has the digital downloads sticker on it is purchased as normal into the shopping cart and then through to checkout. ‘The Darke Age’ 

The Third Age of Valon 

The World of Valon continues to grow and deepen. The clash of sword and the nimbus of Magicke energy joined the time of muskets and cannon; The Third Age of Valon was born. DarkeStorme the Skirmish allows you to skirmish in the times before Flintloque when Wylde Magicke ruled Valon. DarkeStorme is a skirmish tabletop game in a time of Fantasy and High Adventure. Its aim is to provide a number of players with a generic fun game that is scenario driven. Within DarkeStorme are Characters and units that can be developed and a rules engine that allows a good sized scenario to be played in two hours. 

The DarkeStorme Rules use 2D6, a couple of six sided dice that all players of games will recognise for easy play. The game is designed to avoid argument and is simple in its execution without the need for reams of text on vague rules points. To avoid the need for costly and additional rules all sections dealing with Monsters, Magicke, Cavalry, Artillery, Chariots and a full Racial and Bestiary System are included here. Even a full Points System allowing any creature to be created and included in your games.
