DH19 Baggage Turtle released 28mm Fantasy

"Swim the seas of trade across the ocean to being the finest things to the mountain holds of the Dwarfs.  The Gnomes are masters of commerce and welcome the gold of the deep Kings."

A promised new release to cap off our overhauling of the entire Dwarf Hosts (DH) 28mm Fantasy Range is here. Something rather different and special to go with with your Dwarfs, Gnomes and Halflings.  No mere donkey with load; oh no...this one can swim!

DH19 Baggage Turtle with Gnome Rider:  One resin Turtle covered in mixed baggage and a metal Gnome rider who sits atop it.  Excellent for your campaigning and a real eye catching piece.  Sculpted by Kieran Billings.  It is 50mm long and 40mm tall with rider. You can choose from the pack or parts of the pack. Get the rider on his own or the Baggage Turtle to put other riders upon it.

An Elder Dwarf Wizard and the demi giant Fnorr for scale next to the Baggage Turtle.

The Overhaul Project has taken a whole month but it is now complete.  As well as every one of the seventy odd Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings being on the site as a single with new pictures they are also in value packs with a saving plus the mega multitude. Requested by wargamers the DHM01 Dwarf Multitude Miniature Set contains one of EVERY pose in the DH range with a bigger saving.  Get it all in one go.

Here is a line up for comparative sizing of the denizens of the DH Range.  From the smallest to the largest with sculpting by Dave Gallagher, Andy Cooper, Mike Owen and Sam Croes spanning the 1980’s to now.  DH6-05 is 25mm to top of the head as is DH13-01.

EH09 Flower of Evil III is new and totally free automatically in all shipped orders until 10th March 2025.  Above you can see it being tackled by Skeleton Warriors unarmoured and armoured with added weapons and shields from our Undead Legions Range.  Codes VNT57,58, 59 and VNT51.  You can purchase more Flowers if you want but every packaged shipped gets one free all the same.

500th Anniversary of the Battle of Pavia in 1525!  Amazing event half a millennium later which we have marked with a blanket 20% off every order at checkout (no code needed and shown on screen).  This ends shortly on 3rd March 2025.  While it honours soldiers of the time and in turn our 16th Century Furioso Renaissance Range the discount covers all ranges and everything we make.

Thanks for your time.

Halflings Gnomes and Cleric Pt3 restoring Asgard 1980s Dungeon Adventurers

The third part of restoring the Dungeon Adventurers Range is here. Following on the Dwarfs and Elves we now have the Halflings, Gnomes and Human Cleric. Mainly sculpted by Nick Bibby for Asgard in the early 1980’s these metal 28mm scale miniatures are once more back in the world as singles. All examples painted by the talented Studio Maxi. These are the last of the DA range for now as we will switch back to Fantasy Monsters (FM) and Orcs (OR) for the rest of the season.

This very large range has some ninety poses in it and we shall restore as much as we can over time. We are now up to thirty one codes including the Weapon Sprue. Here are the ‘new’ codes:

DA22 Halfling Warrior
DA23 Halfling Slinger
DA24 Halfling Archer
DA27 Halfling Adventurer
DA28 Halfling Adventuress
(Halflings are about 18mm in height and shown on 25mm square bases)

DA31 Human Cleric
DA25 Gnome
DA26 Gnome Illusionist
(The Cleric is 30mm tall and Gnomes are about 18mm tall; all shown on 25mm square bases)

If you are keen on smaller characters for your games then have a gander at CA2 Halfling Walking Party a pack or singles of six different male and female miniatures including a magician.

The Battle Crow! From the collection of professional painter Studio Maxi Costales here is his take on Babd Catha one of the Morrigan. Taken from the 28mm Erin Celtic Myth range. CM24-02 sculpted by Steve Trickett in the early 1990’s.

We like to give our customers a treat so there is always something free in every package shipped out by us here in Scotland. Until August 5th it is part two of our Devilish Imps; four any scale miniatures. Read about this in the ARTICLE. Totally free in orders included automatically.

Thank you for reading and for your continued support is keeping the golden age of British Wargaming alive and the metal flowing as it should.

Article 14 Civilians of Valon by Andy Jefcoate

The autumn comes on in and as our last news for September we present the fourteenth article in Andy's journey through Flintloque.  Following up on the Lady Wintermore from last time it is the turn of Civilians.  Putting the five characters in the 54050 Valon Civilians Set sculpted by Christian Ceullo into play with his own character profiles for the game. If you wish to read any of the previous articles (we recommend reading them in order) then follow this TAG on our blog. I would not cross her!  GBS

The Civilians of Valon

There are some excellent Civilian figures available in the Flintloque and Slaughterloo ranges which are very useful for adding something different to your sections or as the subject of a scenario. I've purchased several of these miniatures and I wanted to explain how I have used some of them in my games.

For this article I want to talk about the great Valon Civilians set which consists of a Dogman with a Blunderbuss, a Dwarf Lumberjack, an Orc in a coat and tricorne, an Orc with a flat cap and a knife, and last but by no means least a Gnome wearing glasses.  These are all fantastic castings with great detail and character.

The Alternative Armies Blog article in 2015 explains the background of each of these 5 characters so they are ready to use as suggested, but I wanted to use them all in the Witchlands within my narrative so they have different stories to tell.

How have I used these characters in my games
You may have met two of them in my earlier articles, so I'll mention these first.

Dogman with Blunderbuss
You would have originally met this guy if you read my 4th article in September 2017. When I was creating my Dogman section there are some great Witchlands figures available with the Dogman figures being some of my favourites, but I wanted a figure with a Blunderbuss as a bit of short range firepower as at that point my games tended to be smaller.

This figure merges nicely with the other Witchlands Dogman figures and has been very useful in my games. In Flintloque a Dog Grenadier Blunderbuss fires at 80/8 within 10cm range and 35/6 between 10 and 30cm range so can do some damage when required.

Johan the Dwarf Woodsman
This guy appeared in my 5th article in November 2017 along with the 1st Pugglesberg Jagers.  He has been used as Johan, a Dwarf Woodsman who had been acting as a guide for the Ferach forces but who had been knocked unconscious in a skirmish and left for dead. The Pugglesberg Jagers found him so brought him into their camp and gladly shared their dwindling rations with him. In return he has shared his considerable survival skills with them and shown them how to set ambushes for the dead.

This has been a fun figure to use and with the Pugglesberg Jagers Johan is classed as a Dwarf Veteran / Light trooper armed with an axe. Due to his skills as a Woodsman if he is outdoors and uses a slow march or a half step march he cannot be seen by an enemy over 30cm away. At +5 in melee he has been useful in taking down the undead at close quarters!

The Orcs 'Stab' and 'Grab'
The two Orcs have been used together as 'Stab' and 'Grab', Orc Veterans from the Britorcn Army of Catalucia. In the army their exploits were legendary amongst the rank and file but frowned upon generally by their officers. Comrades in their section never went hungry as their reputation for scavenging and thievery meant that they would always 'acquire' whatever they wanted. Unfortunately they pushed their luck by plundering the baggage of their own general and the rumour is that they were only saved from being hanged by their Major who intervened on their behalf. He saved their lives but they were still dishonourably discharged.

In the Witchlands their real names aren't known and they just use their nicknames. They have joined the followers of the Ferach army and can be hired as additional guards, thugs or labourers by whoever pays them, and they don't mind if their tasks require a moral flexibility which has seen them regularly called upon during the Ferach retreat especially as units compete with their own side for resources. It might be dishonourable for elves to steal from other elves but if the Orcs do it, that's a different story!

They are general rogues but appearances can be deceptive, in reality they are still members of the Britorcn Army and part of a group sent to the Witchlands to spy on and disrupt the Ferach forces. This group led by the legendary Spy Master Gorgon Lighfoote will feature in a future article.

In my present games they are used as Experienced Orc regulars and can join any Ferach Elf section having been paid by the officer to assist his unit. They each carry 2 pistols and have knives hidden all over their bodies. In close combat they both fight with 2 knives but such is their skill they get a +2 melee modifier as if they were using a sword. As a bit of fun (and due to their hidden agenda) the Ferach player has to role 2 dice at the start of each turn, and if any double is rolled then Stab and Grab are controlled by the Witchlands player that turn.

The 'Quartermaster'
The diminutive figure of the Gnome known as the 'Quartermaster' is regularly seen behind the Ferach lines. Even during the retreat he can still acquire additional rations, powder, weapons, whatever is required for the right price. On payment of the agreed fee, he and his team of Ogres appear with whatever is needed.

No-one knows how the Quartermaster came by his initial fortune or where he originally comes from but he is easily recognised by his brightly coloured outfits.

In my games he is used more as an objective than a character in a section, with troops tasked with escorting him across the board. If he is contacted base to base by a member of an enemy section, he has the resources and influence to escape but in anger will have nothing to do with the section that was escorting him and the scenario is lost.

What's next
I hope that you've enjoyed reading about how I've used the Valon Civilians pack in my games and that I've given you some ideas to try in your scenarios. I still have plenty to tell you about in the fantastic world of Valon, I've mentioned Gorgon Lightfoote who will have an article soon, but I also have numerous miniatures and units that will feature in future articles, so until next time......

Thank you for reading.

DH15 Dwarf Runic Golem now released!

“The Guild of Spellsmiths and the Guild of Blacksmiths do not often clank tankards of Beir but when they do great things happen.  Imagine said Gumblebeard the greatest of the white wizards what we could do with an axe wielder as large as the common Troll but alas our magics will not take a physical form on the field of battle without intricate preparation.  Such preparation is hard enough without some stinking Gobber trying to cave your skull in.  Tamble 'Blowback' Rustmaker chief of the Guild of Blacksmiths replied to this impassioned speech without spilling a drop of golden hops.  Such a huge warrior would be most welcome and we can hammer and smith our way to clothing him but there is no Dwarf in the realm so big to wear it...  Sparkes or raw mind forging flew from them both and with a resounding clank of tankards they spoke in unison.  Between us we can build it and bind it with magic runes.  A golem will take to the field of battle.  A Dwarf Runic Golem!”

Following on from Octobers early supporter offers the fantastic creation that is the Dwarf Runic Golem is now on general release.  Woo!  We were really pleased with the response from wargamers.  In fact we are keeping the 50mm square resin base in with the kit meaning more value and the Dwarf Multitude (one of all the sixty plus Dwarfs in our range) with a FREE Golem in it has been kept on as we have had more than fifty requests for it once it finished.  Go HERE for the Dwarfish Hosts page. Great for any fantasy system such as classic Warhammer and Song of Blades and Heroes too.  Enjoy!

DH15 Dwarf Runic Golem
This resin 28mm scale kit is styled in the traditional manner of Dwarfs whose love of gold and mining has led them to use magic to artifice a big brutal runic golem to aid them in battle. Assembled from five highly detailed pieces with a small degree of pose choice the Golem is 65mm tall and is supplied with a 50mm square resin base.  Supplied unassembled and unpainted. You can purchase a single Golem or purchase three using the drop down menu and save 10% on screen. 18.00GBP.  Go HERE

A Runic Golem is a magic construct of the Dwarfs created by joint effort of their smiths and mages which then obeys simple instructions.  Its not a 'steam and cogs' creation its a magic one in a more traditional Dwarf under mountain stronghold.  As you can see the Dwarf Runic Golem stands about three times the height of a typical Dwarf warrior (the final model will be about 60mm tall) and is emblazoned with powerful runes all over its metal body.  It has thick steel armour making it a match for any Goblin or Orc and even smaller Trolls toe to toe.  It takes a lot of punishment to break the runes and consign this moving magic suit of armour to its end.  The form of the Runic Golem is that of a huge dwarven warrior.  Stocky, slightly hunched over and with a head sat directly onto its shoulders it is perfectly capable of fighting out in the open but it is in the caverns and tunnels that the golem comes into its own.  Able to press itself into the tunnels and using twin double headed axes to carve a path along them the golem can rid a hold of Goblins in short order.

We hope you have enjoyed looking at the concept art for this new 28mm scale kit.

Lastly this message will be across all news and releases this month.  November is a big month and will be filled with many Fantasy and Flintloque releases and offers.  All orders this month will get a free VNT31-05 Liche Lord miniature automatically included read about this HERE.  At the end of this month we will be taking part in a Black Friday Weekend event with our sister sites 15mm.co.uk and The Ion Age.  This will be a great offer and will be explained in greater detail nearer the end of November.

Thanks for Reading.

54050 Valon Civilians by Christian Cuello released!

Flintloque players went slightly bonkers over Mr Cuello's last miniature 56131 Ludwig Von Barkhoven in 2014 with hundreds of castings of it winging around the world when it released and way more when it went out free as an offer too.  After that success five more civilians for use with Flintloque were created and now they are on general release.  Five diverse characters with a lot of potential uses which could be fitting in to any number of collections and scenarios.  I can see them being many things and I think this was Mr Cuello's idea as well.  There are some civilians in our range but certainly there is room for many more too. Go HERE.

From the left, in the line across images, these 28mm white metal miniatures are:

Hanz Stammerhunde
A Dogman in civilian costume with Tricorne Hat and Blunderbuss which stands 30mm tall.  A brave fellow Hanz Stammerhunde used to be a country gentledog until the war with Pudigrochumberg rolled across his small estate and ruined it.  Now Hanz has no choice but to be a highway robber and rascal and while he attempts to be harm innocents he is no stanger to danger. At home in Ostaria or the Confederation of Finklestein.

Bernurd Mucksorc
An Orc in civilian costume with buttoned up coat and Tricorne Hat which stands 30mm tall.  A shady chap Bernurd Muscksorc is a wanted Orc.  He used to work in the stamping works of the Banke of Albion until the lure of coin took his mind.  Making off with two sacks of groats he is now in hiding from the Bone Streete Rumblers.  His presentable appearance is his best asset but how long will he avoid the noose? Many uses both urban and rural but in Londinium or Wheeling-Turns Camp in Catalucia you could use him.

Alf Graxley
An Orc in civilian costume with the look of a miner or other manual worker which stands 28mm tall. Alf Graxley wears a flat cap and has a knife in hand and he is an honest Orc.  He used to be a thug and leg breaker in Skarkills Trade Onion but now he has gone back to work in the barrel cellar of the Pixie's Rear a pub in Cheapestsides in Londinium.  His accent often gets him into scrapes as he is from Yorcshire but he holds his own.  Many uses in scenarios.

Otto Von Slacken
A Dwarf in civilian costume which stands 22mm tall.  Otto Von Slacken is a lumber jack (Wood Cutter) who carries an Axe and is wearing a fur trimmed cloak and sock cap.  In the rough and tumble of Kartoffelburg the daily trades continue despite the carnage and war in the region and this Dwarf fells trees and then sells fire wood as he travels around.  He has great knowledge of the region and is willing to act as a guide for those soldiers who lose their way..for a price.

Nico Ebayrisold
A Gnome in well fitted civilian costume wearing spectacles with his hand behind his back he stands 18mm tall.  Nico Ebayrisold is from the Swizzic Republique like the rest of his kind his passion is counting and banking.  With a mind that is as fast as Mr Babborcs Differecing Engine he is currently in Catalucia assisting Wheeling-Turn in the accounts for the Army of Albion.  He would make an excellent scenario objective or assistant to any Army or perhaps a wealthy merchant with a personal bodyguard. Our first Gnome of Zoorik in the miniature range.

54050 Valon Civilians
This pack contains five different 28mm white metal miniatures for use in Flintloque or any other fantasy system.  A Dogman armed with Blunderbuss, an Orc in Tricorne, an Orc with knife, a Dwarf carrying an Axe and a Gnome wearing spectacles.  Five civilians with many different scenario uses.  This code can be purchased as a pack or as single miniatures from the pack in a choice in the on page drop down menu.  You can also purchase the pack and singles pro-painted and based by selecting those options in the drop down menu.   Go HERE.

If you have not seen Barkhoven then you can go to our website HERE.  There is a free download character sheet for him too which is on these links.  Its a rock and roll period for fans of Alternative Armies and especially Flintloque and Slaughterloo with many new releases as well as offers and much excellence being put up on our Notables Yahoo Group.  Its well worth joining this Yahoo Group and while you must apply to join this is just a formality and I will sign you in where you can pull up a virtual armchair and talk about our games and miniatures.  Here is the link:  Notables Group.

First Look at Flintloque Characters by Christian Cuello

Flintloque players went slightly bonkers over Mr Cuello's last miniature 56131 Ludwig Von Barkhoven in 2014 with hundreds of castings of it winging around the world when it released and way more when it went out free as an offer too.  After that success Mr Cuello has decided to sculpt five more civilians for use with Flintloque.  Five diverse characters with a lot of potential uses which could be fitting in to any number of collections and scenarios.  I can see them being many things and I think this was Mr Cuello's idea as well.  There are some civilians in our range but certainly there is room for many more too.

From the left these as yet untitled miniatures are:

Dogman in civilian costume with Tricorne Hat and Blunderbuss.  Could be a country gentleman or a highway rascal in Ostaria or the Confederation of Finklestein.

Orc in civilian costume with buttoned up coat and Tricorne Hat.  Many uses both urban and rural.  I see him in Londinium or Wheeling-Turns Camp in Catalucia.

Orc in civilian costume with the look of a miner or other manual worker.  A flat cap and a knife in hand suitable as hired muscle or thug.

Dwarf in civilian costume who could be a lumber jack or such trade carrying an Axe and wearing a fur trimmed cloak and sock cap.  Could also be festive fun!

Gnome.  A Gnome of Zoorik! A first really and could make an excellent assistant for an Elf, Orc, Dogman or anyone else.  Wearing squared glasses and merchant's garb.

If you have not seen Barkhoven then you can go to our website HERE or see a blog posting about this miniature on our blog HERE.  There is a free download character sheet for him too which is on these links.

This set will be released as a pack code with the option of single miniature purchase from it.  This will be during our convention season which starts this month and the details of this convention season will be published soon. So you will be able to purchase in a few weeks time. Its going to be a rock and roll period for fans of Alternative Armies and especially Flintloque and Slaughterloo with many new releases as well as offers and much excellence being put up on our Notables Yahoo Group.  Its well worth joining this Yahoo Group and while you must apply to join this is just a formality and I will sign you in where you can pull up a virtual armchair and talk about our games and miniatures.  Here is the link:  Notables Group.

Gnome Cannon by Tony Harwood

I pick this post up from the talented Tony Harwood over on his own blog.  A lovely little set for Flintloque which he converted and painted up as his November 2014 project.  Three miniatures and a cannon all on the small side.

The cannon is made from many pieces from the 'bitz box' and has a custom base while the miniatures come from different codes.  Looking at them I see from the left: a Halfling gunner with sponger and a Halfing in apron then a Dwarf with sponger.  These are from 57000, 57001 which you can see HERE and also from 54501 Obidiah's Gun HERE.

There are currently no Gnomes in the miniature range and they would be literally the smallest miniatures in the Flintloque game.  We may do some in the future but at present Tony's are a fine stand in.  Actually I see them stacked on top of each other inside a trench coat style.  Ah, the madness of Flintloque eh!

Thanks for Reading,

DH2 Gnomes of the Gnomish Legion at Alternative Armies - Project Darkhelm

“Not all warriors in this blood soaked world are massive and brutish.  Some are slight.  Some are so small you might discount them as a threat but that would be an error.  An error that might cost you the fine and intact finish of your skin.  In the wars against the King of the Grave Mound the Dwarves used legions of Gnomish origins both Gnome and Halfings.  They fought tooth and nail and though your sword can kill them as easily as any other foe of flesh they were often the survivors of the battle since those in frenzy did not see them!”

This code contains four different 25mm/28mm white metal miniatures.  Great quality, great choice and great value too.  Go HERE.

Poses in this code are as follows (approx 18mm tall):

DH2-01: Gnome with Bow.
DH2-02: Gnome with Torch and Dagger.
DH2-03: Gnome with Dagger and Shield.
DH2-04: Gnome in Cloak.

These miniatures are not supplied with bases and are supplied unpainted. Select your choice from the drop down product menu.  Choose from a pack, three packs with a 10% saving applied and single miniatures.  Total choice!  Assembly is required with some white metal miniatures.

The Alternative Armies classic high fantasy range dates from the period of the early 1990's through to the end of that decade.  Designed by leading names in the wargaming industry and highly successful in its day this range has been on hiatus.  Alternative Armies, under the name 'Project Darkhelm' is dedicated to re-mastering, re-molding and re-releasing this entire range back onto the market.  We will be doing this work at a measured pace and a weekly rate maintaining high quality and excellent pricing. During and beyond this process Project Darkhelm will see the range continue to be expanded in the mediums of white metal and high grade resin using top industry designers in new releases.  Every pose in each pack is unique with no duplicates making them perfect for skirmish wargaming, roleplaying and unit building for any battle system.
