AS032 Planetary Archivist Garren Madwon: Two nearly identical metal miniatures in 28mm and 15mm scales which are both one piece.  Great for any sci-fi game system. A Human in robes laced with golden threads with an astrotech staff, neuro helmet and a holstered blast pistol The pair are one code and you may have the 28mm on its own as AS03228 in the Alternate Stars Range and the smaller one in the HOF 15mm Range as AS03215 if you desire.

With his astrotech staff this 28mm character will work as a specialist or a civilian or even a space opera monk on your table.  Above next to other Alternate Stars miniature a Star Merc and Info Bot as well as a Female Betrayer from the Ion Age and Psi Operative by Halcyon Miniatures.

Exploring alien worlds and recording their histories in 15mm scale gaming he can be a neuro-jacker or an interfacer with non-human technology. Above next to the SHM100 Security Droid as well as Security Force Alpha, Post Apoc Warrior and Rim Merc from the HOF Range.

The idea for Garren Madwon came from a pencil sketch by our dear friend Andy Gorman who is a talented chap and did (among other things) the cover art for HOF Fire Team written by Gav Syme and Bob Minadeo.  He has been rather under the weather so it was our pleasure to turn his sketch into a dual scale metal reality!

Pirate Rich Paints 28mm Erin Celtic Myth

Sometimes we get a treat and a little journey to follow on ‘X’ by getting tagged.  This happened with Pirate Rich Paints (check him out) when he came across a 30 year old blister from our Erin Celtic Mythology Range and decided to assemble and paint it followed by a few more miniatures from the range.  Kindly he gave permission to share this..enjoy!

One of the highlights of the entire Erin range is the war chariot.  Code CM11 Milesian Chariot was remolded two years ago and comes in many pieces including a driver and warrior along with two horses.  

By request you can choose the pack or parts of it on its page.  There it is in its 1990’s packaging about to be assembled and painted.

Pirate Rich did some excellent brushwork he really did.  Super vivid in its colours and he added some scratchbuilt reins as well.  A rather different take to our own.

CM15-03 Wolfhound Walking and CM15-02 Wolfhound Sitting are the ‘pets’ of Fionn MacCumhail and Pirate Rich took his ones and gave them a super deep grey tone of fur.  We went with a reddish hue on our own ones on the website.

Alternative Armies likes to foster talent and interest and to that end back in 2008 we created the SHM idea. Not Your Usual Flying Circus by Just Needs Varnish blog

It is not often that something takes us by surprise (the big Scottish spring storm of this year aside!) but when we were contacted by Just Needs Varnish Blog to show us an article he had published we were!  A flying circus indeed!  You can read the whole article on his blog where he takes a dozen Octopod Racers (HOF110) from the HOF 15mm Science Fiction Range and converts them into Steampunk or Weird War One flyers. Lovely work and a cool read too.

Sculpted in the main by Elton Waters the Octopods are an army within the HOF Range comprising infantry, casualties, jet bike and the jet flyer too.  Just as with the Rim Mercs, Cultists, Post Apoc Warriors among others the Octopods have a platoon pack ideal for skirmishing with a saving.

Franciscan Monks new 15mm Renaissance releases

Men of faith and of compassion have now made their 15mm scale appearance into our huge 16th Century Renaissance Range.  Six different poses of Franciscan Monks on foot which are ideal to add to the camps of your Italian Wars armies.

The new codes are MR174 through to MR179 and depict robed monks walking, marching, praying, standing, kneeling and with holy cross. They are all single miniatures like the rest of the range for maximum choice.

Sculpted by Sam Croes they join the array of infantry, cavalry, command, gunners, artillery, personalities as well as scenic pieces in the range.

Furioso is a set of wargames rules that covers European warfare in the sixteenth century. The rules allow players to fight large scale land battles with a simple to use and enjoyable gaming system.  Furioso can be played using any scale of miniatures. There are two books the core rules and army lists and the Italian Wars expansion with battle scenarios, Da Vinci’s machines and much more.  Print and Digital Download.  If you wish to get started quickly we have pre-assembled army packs which come with a saving and free element bases included.

The second of three brand new 28mm Undead Legions codes during the Spring Mega Event is revealed with the last one and the new Multitude revealed later this week.  In this message we also present to you the newly remolded 1990’s classic CA1 A Wizards Progress in the Adventurers and Wizards Range.

Norman Quilted Infantry 28mm scale plus Weapons restored

Sculpted alongside the venerable Fantasy Warlord range in 1990-1991 we are proud to announce the restoration of 28mm scale historical codes. Norman Infantry (open handed) as well as a Norman Officer and a sprue of spears, two different shields and a saver full unit too.  11th Century and the time of the Conquest.

The infantry are supplied without bases and without weapons or shields just as with Fantasy Warlord. We are not sure who sculpted these miniatures and would welcome input in that regard.  Restored by wargamer request and now in new molds as well.  Fresh and clean.

We have created a new page just as we did with our 28mm Jacobite Scottish Range.  We will not be expanding these classics we have simply restored them as we have with Laserburn for wargamers to enjoy on the table or to complete their collections. Each of the five infantry poses are slightly different and can be had as five with a saving or choose singles. The officer is on his own with sword and shield included and the Spears, Kite Shield and Round Shield are in packs of five.

There is a full unit code NOU01 Norman Quilted Infantry Unit (20) which has a baked in saving and also comes with spears and kite shields; that is an officer with nineteen mixed of five poses of infantry.

Barbarians by Jez Goodwin restored 1980’s new pictures

We were asked and it has been done!  Sculpted by Jes Goodwin in the early 1980’s and to some among the finest 28mm Barbarians to exist in metal these codes were among the first Alternative Armies restored in Project Asgard.  

Project Asgard was in its early days and hence the pictures were not among the best (ten years ago eh!) so they have been updated.  We have just restored the three Barbarian Centaurs as well so it seemed a good time and on top of that two set saver packs.  One with a saving off the full dozen and the other with a free Midsummer Druidess included.

Every miniature has a new picture of front and rear and these painted ones are from the personal collection of Sam Croes.  Above is our second favourite of them BP2 Fire Daughter.

These work in any game system as characters or rank and file in your warband.  The meanest of the bunch is of course BP12 Hax Ragged above; our favourite.

Halcyon Miniatures releases set four 28mm Freebooters Mercs and more!

The boutique miniature range which came to Alternative Armies now makes its fourth round of releases! Halcyon Miniatures are manufactured by us in agreement with its Nottingham based sculptor. This round joins the other three in 28mm scale metal science fiction for a total of thirty one poses.

Got a star vessel?  Need some muscle on commerce jumps?  Ship Captain, first officer, ‘surgeon’ along with Freebooters, Bladesmen and Tech Gladiators. HAL022 to HAL031.  Useful in any game system.

All miniatures in this range are ‘tabbed’ meaning they use a slot base. Extra value is given by us in that we supply a resin circular slot base free with every figure purchased from Halcyon. All are on 59034 Wide Slot Base.  Base is included automatically.

The fighters in this release (HAL025 to HAL031) can all make use of HAL016 Assault Infantry Shields an accessories pack of ten mixed shields or choose single ones on the page. These fit on to Assault Infantry and others in the range as well.  We have many other Battlefield Bits and Accessories you can look through too.

Every miniature in the Halcyon Range comes as a single with its free base but there are also four set packs which contain each round of miniatures with a built in saving.

Those who field 28mm Science Fiction miniatures on their tables may find interest in our Alternate Stars Range which has thirty poses of troopers, aliens, robots, mercs, weapons pack and Warbots.  Above is Warbot I and also the Uhul which are big hitters.

Jes Goodwin Centaurs restored added to the 80s 28mm Barbarian Range

The good work of restoring the classic 1980’s high fantasy ranges of Asgard Miniatures proceeds at Alternative Armies with two more requested poses by Jes Goodwin. These followed up on his restored Barbarians Collection and fit right in with them. These lovely examples were painted by the talented Studio Maxi Costales who has done such sterling brush work on so many returned classics. In the woods below with our useful Handcart behind them.

Part of the Fantasy Monsters (FM) Range of which we have now restored about eighty percent of the one hundred poses each of these Centaurs is part horse and part man standing about 40mm tall.  Have a gander at the FM range for all manner of monsters and creatures.

Shown for scale DA18 High Elf Adventurer from the Dungeon Adventurers Range which is 28mm tall.  The new codes are FM99 Centaur with Bow and FM100v2 Centaur with Spear which follow up on FM98 Centaur with Sword.  These are our last restored releases for this month.

One of the first collections Alternative Armies returned to the world was the twelve pose strong Barbarians by Jes Goodwin.  These are offered as singles and two different sets of all twelve.  The first set gives a small saving and the second set gives you FL24-01 Midsummer Druidess for free included (one of the FL24 Winter and Summer Heroines set).

Adventurers Party 1993 by Andy Cooper remastered returned to website

We are delighted to present returned to our website the ten poses of the Adventuring Party sculpted in 1993 for Alternative Armies by Andy Cooper.  Along with remastering them we now have them in new pictures and they are as singles and a set of all ten.  See them along with Evil Adventurers, Halfling Walking Party, a Wizards Progress, Deadly Foes, Classic Fighters and more.  Great for any game system in 28mm scale.

FL22 Adventurers Party:  Made up of the original codes of FL13 and FL14 you can enter the dungeon or the wild woods with Fighters, Thieves, Cleric, Bard, Barbarian, Half Orc and Female Halfling.  Metal miniatures in 28mm scale in the 90’s style.

Save with the set of all ten or seek out the singles as codes FL22-01 to FL22-10 such as FL22-02 The Bard above.

Our ongoing process of offering all miniatures as value packs and singles is now just about complete on the Adventurers and Wizards Range which includes the remastered Winter Knight (FL10) on foot and also mounted on a superb armoured horse.

Right now we have not begun on the Dwarfish Host Range as it still has its original images with packs (choose singles within the packs) but we have refreshed the molds of the Dwarf Runic Golem.  This magic construct stands 65mm tall and is easy to put together.

Five new Espaten Portable Weapon kits for 28mm Ion Age Range

“During the ancient Ban of Prejudice the Espaten was a powerful tool for support in the street fights which raged in underground cities across the Precinct.  In recent years the original gun has been present in all campaigns and it has been broadened as well.  To deal with Battlesuits and larger infantry formations as well as indirect fire missions there are now six variants.  These are  the same weapon systems as used by the new Havelock Type 57 being rolled out to Muster Regiments right now.” Academy Auto-Trainer Series 07, New Glastonbury, 4325IC

Now that we have restored all of the original 28mm Ion Age Range codes in the Prydian Army and added motive units to the existing gun platform as well as new gun teams for Retained Knights and Planetary Militia we have five, yes five, further portable weapon platforms now released.  These five take the 28mm range into line with the 15mm Ion Age Range for portable weapons.  The new codes are:

IB72 Moth 88 Rotary Espaten Portable Weapon (Platform Kit)

IB73 Angis Cannon Espaten Portable Weapon (Platform Kit)

IB74 Bodkin Howitzer Espaten Portable Weapon (Platform Kit)

IB75 Valerin Laser Espaten Portable Weapon (Platform Kit)

IB76 Fretan Railgun Espaten Portable Weapon (Platform Kit)

Each kit has a built in saving of ten percent as all the value packs in the range do.  They are composed of resin and metal pieces and are easy to assemble being approx 50mm by 40mm and 25mm tall.  They will go with any of the gun teams in the range.

Move your guns on the battlefield using IB77 Tracked Espaten Propulsion Unit or IB78 Anti Gravity Espaten Propulsion Unit.  These fit all the weapon platforms.

Evil Adventurers ten 28mm miniatures painted by Sporehammer
