El 1 de Junio es el cumple de
Alfredo Fernando Testoni Lauriti, fotógrafo, grabador y editor uruguayo nacido en 1919.
Comenzó su actividad profesional como fotógrafo en 1935, desarrollando la misma en varios diarios nacionales y como corresponsal de importantes revistas internacionales. Formó su propio taller y, desde 1940, se vinculó al ambiente artístico como fotógrafo del Taller Torres García. En 1954 comenzó sus experiencias con formas y texturas en fotos de muros y bajo relieves de Italia, España, los países escandinavos, Alemania, Medio Oriente, México y Bolivia.
En 1956 formó parte de la «Comisión Amigos del Arte» y, entre 1959 y 1962, integró con otros artistas el llamado «Grupo de los Ocho», que intentó aglutinar artistas plásticos con cercanía a lo abstracto. Desde entonces continuó su actividad alternando en la fotografía, el grabado, la pintura y en emprendimientos editoriales como editor y diseñador gráfico. Realizó exposiciones individuales y colectivas en diversos países.
Murió en 2003.

El 2 de Junio es el cumple de
Erwin Olaf, nacido en 1959 en Hilversum, Holanda, vive y trabaja en Amsterdam desde comienzos de los años 80, teniendo su estudio y lugar de trabajo en una antigua iglesia. La fotografía de Olaf es una mezcla de fotoperiodismo y estudio, aproximándose en su visión fotográfica a LaChapelle entre otros. Su alumbramiento al panorama internacional de la fotografía ocurrió en 1988 a raiz de su serie “Chessmen” por la que fue galardonado con el primer premio en la “Young European Photographer Competition”. Tras este premio le siguió una exposición en el Museo Ludwig de Colonia, Alemania. Desde entonces a continuado explorando los territorios de las cuestiones de género, la sensualidad, el humor y la desesperación en sus series fotográficas.

El 3 de Junio es el cumple de
Keith Carter, fotógrafo, educador y artista estadounidense nacido en 1948, destacado por sus ensoñadoras fotos de animales y objetos.
Elogiado como un "realista trascendente" y un "poeta de lo ordinario", Carter es un fotógrafo aclamado internacionalmente cuya obra se ha presentado en más de cien exposiciones en solitario en treinta países. Carter encuentra los objetos que usa como tema en los familiares (aunque exóticos) lugares y personas de su tierra natal, el este de Texas. Durante las pasadas dos décadas ha expandido su rango, no sólo geográficamente, pero también en los reinos del sueño y la imaginación, donde los objetos del mundo corriente permiten atisbar realidades inefables.
Además de sus libros, las fotografías de Carter están incluidas en muchas grandes colecciones públicas y privadas.

Robert Riger, célebre ilustrador de deportes, fotógrafo, premiado director de televisión y cineasta estadounidense nacido en 1924. John Szarkowski, antiguo director del departamento de fotografía en el Museo de Arte Moderno dijo: "Sus fotografías son documentos, y las mejores son también imágenes que tienen vida propia, y que podrían dar inmenso placer a George Stubbs, Winslow Hommer y Thomas Eakins." David Halberstam dijo: "Robert Riger fue un prominente artista de la Edad de Oro de los deportes en Estados Unidos después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial."
Robert dijo: "Posiblemente no podrás fotografiar un deporte hasta que lo comprendes completamente, y comprendes y conoces a los hombres que lo practican. La misma intensidad que ellos ponen en el juego, debes ponerla tú para registrarlo. No detenerlo, sino suspenderlo en el tiempo para siempre." Murió en 1995.

Hugh Turvey, artista y fotógrafo británico nacido en 1971, que utiliza la tecnología de rayos X para crear lo que él llama Xogramas, una fusión de luz visible e imágenes de rayos X.

El 6 de Junio es el cumple de
Richard Gordon, fotógrafo estadounidense nacido en 1945 que trabajó a lo largo de todo su país durante más de 40 años.
Gordon fue el autor de "Meta fotografías" (1978), "Uno más para el camino" (1996), "Vigilancia estadounidense" (2009), "Jessie lee un libro" (2011), "Notas de campo" (2012), y varios libros del artista hechos a mano en ediciones limitadas.
Gordon utilizó su cámara Leica, siguiendo la tradición y arte de muchos otros.
Murió el 6 de octubre de 2012 de un cáncer pancreático.

El 7 de Junio es el cumple de
Jean Moral, fotógrafo francés nacido en 1906 que participó en el movimiento surrealista y ejerció de fotógrafo de guerra en la guerra civil española.
En 1925 comenzó a hacer fotografías como aficionado y dos años después se hizo amigo de Roger Parry, Daniel Masclet y Robert Pontabry por lo que comenzó con temas de dunas, playas y el mar desde un punto de vista experimental.
Poco después empezó a trabajar en revistas como Vogue, Harper's Bazaar y Vu y en 1930 participó en la muestra organizada por el semanario Das Deutsche Lichtbild. En 1938 trabajó en España como corresponsal de Paris-Soir para hacer reportajes sobre la guerra civil. Tras la ocupación alemana durante la segunda guerra mundial se refugió en Cannes en la casa de Francis Picabia.
A partir de 1955 empezó a dedicarse a la pintura. Poco antes de morir en 1999 se realizó su primera exposición fotográfica en Grenoble.

Hoy, 8 de Junio es el cumple de
Angus McBean, fotógrafo galés nacido en 1904, asociado con el surrealismo. También realizó la portada de Please, please me, primer álbum de los Beatles.
Clem McBean era supervisor en las minas, y la familia se mudaba frecuentemente por Gales debido a su empleo. Fascinado por las aparentemente mágicas propiedades de la fotografía, Angus quería ser capaz de tomar fotografías de personas, y vendió un reloj de oro que le había regalado su abuelo para comprar equipo.
McBean se convirtió en uno de los más significativos retratistas del s.XX, y se le conoce por su fotografía de celebridades. En la primavera de 1942 su carrera se vio temporalmente arruinada al ser arrestado en unos baños por actos criminales de homosexualidad. Fue sentenciado a 4 años en prisión y salió libre en el otoño de 1944. Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, fue capaz de continuar con su carrera exitosamente. Murió en 1990.

On June 1 is the birthday of
Alfredo Fernando Testoni Lauriti, Uruguayan photographer, writer and editor born in 1919.
He began his professional career as a photographer in 1935, developing it in several national newspapers and as a correspondent for major international journals. He formed his own workshop and, since 1940, he joined the art scene as a photographer of the Torres García Workshop. In 1954 he began his experience with shapes and textures in photos of walls and bas-reliefs from Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Germany, Middle East, Mexico and Bolivia.
In 1956 he was part of the "Friends of the Arts Committee" and, between 1959 and 1962, he joined with other artists in the so called "Group of Eight ", who tried to unite artists with proximity to the abstract. Since then resumed trading alternating in photography, printmaking, painting and publishing ventures as editor and graphic designer. He performed solo and group exhibitions in various countries.
He died in 2003.
On June 2 is the birthday of

Olaf's photography is a blend of photojournalism and studio, approaching in his photographic vision to LaChapelle among others. Keith Carter, American photographer, educator, and artist born in 1948, noted for his dreamlike photos of people, animals and objects.
Lauded as "a transcendent realist" and "a poet of the ordinary," Carter is an internationally acclaimed photographer whose work has been shown in over one hundred solo exhibitions in thirteen countries. Carter first found his subjects in the familiar, yet exotic, places and people of his native East Texas. For the past two decades he has expanded his range not only geographically, but also into realms of dreams and imagination, where objects of the mundane world open glimpses into ineffable realities.
In addition to his books, Carter's photographs are included in a great many public and private collections.
On June 4 is the birthday of
Robert Riger, celebrated sports illustrator, photographer, award-winning television director, and cinematographer born in 1924. John Szarkowski, former director of the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art, said, "His photographs are documents, and the best of them are also pictures that now have a life of their own, and that would have given intense pleasure to George Stubbs and Winslow Homer and Thomas Eakins." David Halberstam, said "Robert Riger was the preeminent artist of a golden age of American sports in the years after World War II."
Robert said: "You cannot possibly photograph sport unless you understand it completely, and understand and know the men who play it. The same intensity they have to play the game you must have to record it. Not stop it, but suspend it forever in time." He died in 1995.
On June 5 is the birthday of
Hugh Turvey, a British artist and photographer born in 1971 who uses x-ray technology to create what he calls Xograms, a fusion of visible light and x-ray imagery. More images and information in the previous post.
On June 6 is the birthday of
Richard Gordon, American photographer born in 1945, who photographed all over America for more than 40 years.
Gordon was the author of Meta Photographs (Chimaera Press) 1978, One More for the Road (Flâneur Bookworks) 1996, American Surveillance (Chimaera Press) 2009, Jessie Reads a Book, (Chimaera Press) 2011, Notes From the Field (Chimaera Press) 2012, and a number of limited-edition, handmade artist's books.
Gordon has used a Leica camera, following in the traditions and craft of many others.
He died on October 6, 2012 of pancreatic cancer.
On June 7 is the birthday of
Jean Moral, French photographer born in 1906 who participated in the surrealist movement and worked as a war photographer in the Spanish civil war.
In 1925 he began taking pictures as an amateur, and years after became friend of Roger Parry, Daniel and Robert Pontabry Masclet so began to work with dunes, beaches and the sea from an experimental point of view.
Soon after began working for magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Vu. In 1930 he participated in the exhibition organized by the weekly Das Deutsche Lichtbild. In 1938 worked in Spain as a correspondent for Paris-Soir to make reports on the civil war. After the German occupation during World War II he took refuge in Cannes at the home of Francis Picabia.
From 1955 he began to devote himself to painting. Shortly before his death in 1999 his first photo exhibition was held in Grenoble.
Today, June 8, is the birthday of
Angus McBean, Welsh photographer born in 1904, associated with surrealism. He also did the cover for Please, Please Me, first album by The Beatles.
Clem McBean was a surveyor in the mines and the family moved frequently around Wales with his job. Fascinated by the apparently magical properties of photography, Angus wanted to be able to take pictures of people and sold a gold watch left to him by his grandfather to raise the five pounds necessary for the equipment.
McBean became one of the most significant portrait photographers of the 20th century, and was known as a photographer of celebrities. In the Spring of 1942 his career was temporarily ruined when he was arrested in Bath for criminal acts of homosexuality. He was sentenced to four years in prison and was released in the autumn of 1944. After the Second World War, McBean was able to successfully resume his career. He died in 1990.
