Kristina to New York

Found an article in DN which said that the Musical Kristina från Duvemåla is being translated into English and will be shown at Carnegie Hall in New York in September. Since I know the class has some Kristina-fans, I thought I'd post it here.

I was happy to hear that they are bringing Helen Sjöholm along and that they might tour the United States later. Maybe they'll even come to Denver.

Midsommarafton är fredagen närmast sommarsolståndet, som är den kortaste natten på året. Norr om norra polcirkeln går solen inte ner alls vid den här tiden.

Midsommarnatten är förknippat med folktro på olika sätt. T.ex. om en flicka plockar sju sorters blommor, hoppar över sju gärdsgårdar på midsommarnatten utan att prata, och sedan lägger blommorna under huvudkudden så drömmer hon om sin blivande man.

Midsommarnattens dagg botar sjukdomar. Vill du bli frisk ska du alltså gå ut och rulla dig naken på ängarna på midsommarnatten (if you end up getting arrested for doing this anywhere in Northern Colorado, you didn't hear it from me!).

Tricky Words

To get back to Sweden, I found a short article in Dagens Nyheter today about the most commonly misspelled Swedish words (by Swedes!). Click here to find out which ones they are.

Polish, not Swedish

We went to a new restaurant in Westminster, CO, last week and although it is definitely not Swedish, I still wanted to recommend it. Steven had the bigos (Polish Hunter Stew) and the barszcz (red beet soup) and liked both. I ate the potato pancakes (which were okay) and the zupa ogorkowa (pickled cucumber and potato soup) which was VERY good.

Definitely worth a detour!
