THE DONNAS/TOILET BOYS split 7"

The Donnas ,towards the end of their existence ,sounding much like the Runaways and Kiss ,and other 70's hard rock outfits ,meet the Toilet Boys ,who also favor the sound of 70's styled hard rock ,put this split out thru Lookout Records back in 1999. I like the Donnas ,but I prefer the early stuff ,when they were aping the Ramones. The Toilet Boys ,well,I've never seeked out any of their other stuff ,so I can't really speak on them, other than to say ,their lead singer looks like a girl ,but is not! This is pretty rockin' though! On pure white vinyl (see pics in zip)

BUBBA FOWLER - And Then Came Bubba

Starting his musical career as part of a duo (with Chuck Woolery!) as "The Avant-Garde" with the singles "Yellow Beads" (re-done on this LP) ,and "Naturally Stoned" (a top-40 hit!) in 1967. Elkin "Bubba" Fowler, also played guitar for Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen ,both of whom he resembles ,musically ,lyrically ,and vocally on this 1970 album. "The Pounding Status Quo" ,is a Dylan rip ,and one of the best tracks here. Other standouts include ,"Listen Big City" ,"Next Year This Time" , and "The Messenger Of Life". The re-make of his former group's ,"Yellow Beads" ,is a hippy story ,and much of the material is either dated or has much to do with what's happening in the world right now! I remember snatching this up while thrifting ,and taking it over to Joel's house for a spin on his turntable. We just fell about in laughter ,looking at Bubba's front cover pic ,and hearing him totally aping Dylan's whole schtick! What a blast!

SACKTAP - Stupid Is Born Every Second

One of the dumbest bands of all time!  ,there is much to redeem this, their second LP.(The first one, self-titled,is available on this here blog, somewhweres). You have some poetry readings, some of their trademark Jazz/scat numbers, some more episodes of The Bob and Jerry show, parodies of 70's/80's TV commercials, crazy instrumentals that will trip you out (wear headphones!),a drum solo with a fat guy snoring on top of it,and covers of : The Misfits (Brian "Snax" Siders (R.I.P.) on drums and back-up vocals),Motorhead, 7 Seconds, and Black Flag! There are also some terrible songs, that are some of the worst pieces of shit you may ever hear.Or not!Total Tardcore madness!Fuckin'dumb!
