I am still stuck here,in the year 1982 ,playing and listening to ep's and demos while waiting for the garage to repair the Time Machine! This is the third 6 hour podcast of 1982 in this series,with one more 6 hour podcast to come before I blast off to my next destination! There are familiar bands/songs here,but I can bet that most folks haven't heard most of the music featured.The tunes are of their time,you can definitely get the feeling of 1982 ,although some of this holds up today suprisingly well.A lot of these songs are still relevant ,even now! Real cheesy new wave music and lyrics and vocals ,this is the shit! Included in the zip file ,is a flyer from my band ,Buzz Workshop ,and we used this band's pictures ,as our own! Ha ha!Another group of cuban/latinos ,cutting out their piece of the American dream. Power-pop for the masses! Pre-saging the use of the word "alternative" ,as it related to music ,and a premonition of the cover of the first Suede album ,with 2 androgynous faces.

SECRET SOCIETY - Too Blind To See

A new-wave ,alt-dance band ,classified as "free-style" in 1987 Miami. Sounding (and looking) much like Duran Duran ,The Cure ,and Depeche Mode ,combined ,with a few other influences thrown in the mix. I gotta say ,the last number ,the stupidly titled instrumental ,"69" ,sounds almost note-for-note like George Michael and Wham's hit ,"Careless Whispers". Apparently people raved about this cuban/latino group ,back then. Pretty fucking derivative ,if you're asking me. Memories of 80's teen flick soundtracks will fill your cranium! The album looks more goth than it actually is.

THE PANICS-Push The Button

A seminal Ft. Myers punk band,from the start,in 1980.The singer,Spencer ,was a substitute teacher at Ft. Myers High,and later moved to CA to form The Mutts (more on that on a later posting).The drummer,Jim Becker,is a local news caster.Jason Slaughter,on guitar,financed the whole thing,with his riches.Their only LP,after a few singles,this has great songs like,"Test..Test", "Kill It Before It Multiplies", "Feel For Pop",and more.Kinda 60's garage meets 80's punk/new wave.Good friends of Leo Johnson,from whom I learned of them.I used to hang with my friend's band,Nightwing,in high school,and once they were recording in the studio next to the Panics,and kept teasing them,calling them "The Pancakes"(which is actually a good band name,me thinks!)and taunting them for not playing hard rock.Recorded partially at Soundcheck studios in Ft,Myers.This rules,and is a piece of Ft.Myers punk history,as well.

I think this is his first recording,one of the earliest things done in Noise New York studios,1985.If this is the same Scott who's still playing,he now does everything from opera,to medieval music,to new age.Side a is kinda new wavey,while side b is almost an Irish drinking song!Also of note , Naux ,produced,arranged,plays bass,some guitar and keys,on this here slab. On Double Bill Records.

VILLAGE PEOPLE-food fight

Yeah I know these guys suck,and I only give you one side of this 7",because the other side is a disco ballad,that really blows.But this song,which you may find hard to believe is the real Village People,is a genuine piece of punk/new wave history,that few have heard,due to the disco connection.Probably released around the time the movie Animal House came out,seeing how the song is titled,"Food Fight".Food,you may need to cover this song,at some point!Keyboard driven,quirky new wave,with punky vocals,this should not be missed.C'mon ,2:31 of greatness awaits!

MICHAEL ALTON GRIFFIN-excerpts from the chip davis archives

this solo artist is heavily into orgonomics,and power electronics.some of this reminds me of 80's synth and new wave,mostly cabaret voltaire and d.a.f.,but i hear other influences as well.some spoken parts,guy gentry guests on guitar on one track,jimmy cochrane on keys on another track,very intriguing and nostalgic,reminds me of the 80's,waiting around some downtown area anywhere in florida,for the club to open for the punk show we were going to see.mike wrote some notes to this ,in the zip file.i have a tape of a few of his bands,schmutzigmuzik,vitreous humor,and gutbucket,that i will post at another time,none of which sound anything like this.very futuristic and spacey,yet old wave/new wave,the 80's is the decade that's repeating now,right?,so this is kinda topical!very enjoyable listen.
