BUZZ WORKSHOP - Teenage Diaries -Part Two (Prom Nite And The Days Following)

This is part two of the diary concept album ,played and sang by Billy , Joel ,and Tall Ray,(part one is the post below this one!). So in this episode ,Prom Nite is here ,then it's off to a heavy metal party, where the loud music kinda camoflages the ringing noises in his head, and where some blotter acid is dispensed, a dose of which meets our subject's brain(thinking maybe that ,will quell the noisy ,highly-pitched sounds, ringing in his skull !) .The trip started out alright , but the ringing didn't stop, and he was headed on a bummer which lead to heavy thoughts, feelings of insanity , crossing the tracks towards insanity ,and finally succumbing to it's natural pull. Recorded the day after part one ,and the concept is not lost on me.There are vocals on nearly every track here,to further help you understand the concept, whereas on part one ,the soundtrack was all instrumental.

I didn't really go into the story on part one ,but here goes. The kid was always gawky ,and he got a nose job (several weeks prior to the prom). He gets the bandages removed ,and the doctor finds he did a shoddy job. So he has to bust his nose again ,to re-set it. The pain of his nose being broken again ,leads to a screaming ringing in his ears , which begins the quick slide towards insanity. The thought of knowing he soon will have to go to prom (Mom already picked up his tux) ,with the bandages over his nose (embarassing),and the incessant ringing noises ,he gets totally wasted drunk. Then he realizes that he can't hear anything or anyone but the noise. He falls to his bed ,drunken ,and the room is spinning. He awakens on the morning of prom ,like a turtle grumping out of his den.Everything is moving ,and his head is pounding. And the noise is louder, yet he's grown used to it ,when he was passed out.He orders a pizza with everything. When it arrives he pays the delivery guy, and inhales the whole pizza while watching a kids show about marionette puppets ,made of vegetables , climbing mountains. Later that day he gets dressed up,and heads for prom.On the way there ,he almost gets jumped, by some younger kids ,who then see his nose ,and leave him alone. He rips the bandages off ,and walks thru the school's front doors ,to the prom ,to hopefully score ,chicks or drugs!

BUZZ WORKSHOP - Teenage Diaries -Part One (The Week Leading Up To Prom Nite)

This is a 2 part concept album,as I surmised upon listening. The band line-up on this day was ,Joel Rizzo ,Billy Drake , & Tall Ray . Mike Smith plays the drums on the first 3 tracks here , and Billy's not on the first song. Anyways ,as you listen ,and view the song titles,it all becomes very apparent. You're seeing, hearing, and believing things ,a teenage boy would ,as time is creeping up on prom nite. The artwork ,was drawn ,I think , by Billy ,(small signature ,bottom right corner),but I may be wrong , and it depicts the view from Joel's living room couch. Recorded the same day as the ,"Creeps Taking Dope" sessions , April 13,1996.At 5455 studios. In beautiful mid-town Crime Manor , Ft. Myers. Really good band, they never cease to explore the options and calvacades of sound! This is part one, where the story unfolds thru an instrumental soundtrack, part two is posted above this ,and there are vocals on nearly every track. Good indie/punk/alt-rock sounds!

BUZZ WORKSHOP - Creeps Taking Dope

From 4/13/1996. The first 3 songs have Mike Smith on drums ,as well as Ed,and Joel.Mike then left and Mike "McSchwuggles" Mezaros ,and Tall Ray showed up to finish off the next 5 songs, with Ed and Joel. I recommend this release to everyone who loves rockin' songs ,I don't think there's one bad or filler track on this whole thing! Really, really, good stuff, please download it,listen to it,and come back and tell me what you think.I can't even think of a band to compare them to,they're that good!A melange of musical genres.Live at Club 5455. Doesn't the guy in the picture ,kinda resemble Chipmonk?

CAT MACHINE - Dr. Bellows

One of the "must-have" ,tapes in the Cat Machine collection, for a number of reasons.First off,the guests:on disc one,it's Ed J.,and Tony Rizzo, with guests :Dave Roth (who is here for the duration of this recording!),Tall Ray,and Nathan, who chime in on a few songs, you can tell by Nathan's goofy voices, and disc two is :Ed J.,Tony and Joel Rizzo,Dave Roth, and on the last 2 tracks Matt and Frank,of The Headlaunchers! The last track is another of those,"Everyone read something different, out loud,at the same time",things, which we always seemed to do.Some of the best songs ever are on this thing,:"Tore My Hair Out Today" , "Blinky" , "Triggernometry" , "Trying To Shit An Old Turd" , "Behind The Oven" , "Rum's Gonna Rain" , among other great ditties! But the guests are the main thing here,Dave Roth is a genius (find his solo album on this blog!),Nathan and Ray are local legends,Matt and Frank, hippies jamming in a smelly room.I highly recommend this release, especially if you are just discovering Cat Machine,as the tunes here are striving for underground excellence.Recorded straight to boom box at Cat Machine house,12/29/1990 .Stay tuned for more from this exciting outsider band, and their continuing exploits!! hear the album of the year for 1990!!

BUZZ WORKSHOP-don't let bugs ruin your life!

This is either the first, or second tape from these fools. The line-up was:Me,Joel,Billy,Tall Ray,McSchwuggles, and for some reason, Dom was there to ruin it up a little. Some covers of : the Eagles(totally unrecognizable as such, with"Hotel California"), the Velvet Underground, and even some Henry Mancini. Pretty cool, smokin, and strange. Even a little spicy. The worst part , for me, is when Dom sings on a song, "Lost At Sea(The Goods)", sounding much like the dried cum-stain in Jim Morrison's smelly leather pants, that he is! I don't know how you guys let that dweeb, weasel his way into our thing. Certainly no replacement for Me(when i was on a business trip for 5 months), and definitely not coherent or cohesive with"our" thing. I have another tape by Buzz Workshop, that we didn't even write a track list for, or any info, because once again Dom had to be there, and he did such a great job of ruinin' that one up,that he sounded like the shit stain in the back of Jim Morrison's stanky leather pants! He sang for a band done in my abscence, "Conveyor", (there is a rare reel-to-reel recording of them somewhere on this blog, if you wish to inhale deeply the smell of Jim Morrison's farts, thoroughly imbedded in his cum and shit stained , smelly beyond reason, and unwashable, leather pants), not to say the music or the rest of the guys in the band were bad, but Dom's voice is grating, like i wanna choke him. I have the 4-track master tapes, as well,if i ever get a new one or fix mine,(4-track recorder), maybe I could do mixes without the vocals! Hey,hey!, good idea! Is anyone opposed to that? Let me know! But more on this tape, only the one mentioned track gets ruined up by Dum, and the rest is pretty awe inspiring. I can't stand that fucker, though, sorry dom, if you are reading this, or anybody from Conveyor, I can't help it,the guy is annoying, and I'm glad he took the hint when i got back, that he was out, I wouldn't have wanted to have to put my foot on his neck! Some of the ghost of the sweat, from Jim Morrison's neck, might have got on my shoe, then I'd have to burn the damn things, and find a dumpster to rid myself of them in, what with the stench of Dom on the sole, you kiddin' me or what, huh? Hey I noticed I'm running off at the lip here, usually I get good response when I write a bunch of words in a row, like people leave comments and stuff, and a bunch of people down load it, cuz they see a long paragraph with like a million words, and instead of, (or after), reading it all, they figure it's some important release, that changed the face of music for years to come, or some shit. It is really a great jam tape, with a mixed bag of local,(Ft.Myers,FL), talent, as usual, and it never ceases to interest and amaze me like no other music I've heard in my life. As it is with all the Sluggisha stuff. Well, I hope you enjoyed the ride of this read, and I hope you'll jump on the Sluggisha band wagon, and immerse yourself in our little scene, and download this, and listen to it, and come back and comment, or something. There is still a slew of Buzz Workshop tapes to go yet! So stay tuned for that!

BUZZ WORKSHOP-dog tags

this is really cool!the only time ever that tony rizzo enlisted in the ranks of buzz workshop.it's me,joel, tony, tall ray,and mike smith on the first 9 songs, some of which ended up in our set list,as well as some unheard of instrumentals that go way far out.the last 6 tracks are tony, joel and tall ray,and is very enlightening.the last track,"star in a box" is a doozy!extra long doozy!

THE HOUSE THAT DRIPS BLOOD-the slacker tapes

this is sean burch's (monson) solo project from 1995.tony rizzo, and ron bohn play on a track on here, don plays on most, christy bachman is here on a few,and tall ray(i think)plays on a number.there is covers of naked raygun, and local rarities, the morbid fucks.also a couple songs written by paul deritis.and by brett.acid drenched punk that's trippy, and ever-changing.i split the tracks into side a and side b,did'nt want to disturb the continuity,as it all runs together with samples and such.most samples(especially side b)are from the movie ,slacker, but there are samples from other sources as well.a strange listen.get good and ripped for this one!and sean burch (monson),contact me via the comments box below.thanks!

BUZZ WORKSHOP-in-crowd cult heroes

more rollicking fun rock from the buzz workshop,a loosely-knit,interchangable group of fellas, who just love to record their do-goodings,to share with the world.this time round the line-up is:me,joel, tall ray, mike"mcschwuggles"mezaros, and vance, march 24th,1996.the lead-off track pinches a birthday party guitar line,to good effect.2 great cover versions of velvet underground's"sister ray",as sung by joel.and the other tracks are no slouches either.total 1-2-3-go! style, and it was all written in the stars that day,or some kinda crap like that!recorded in fantastic"you are here"sound,i shit you not, you'll swear you're in the living room at joel's 5455 club.

HEADLAUNCHERS

this little combo sprang up from joel, and i believe(joel correct me if i'm wrong)frank t.,tall ray, mike mezaros(mcschwuggles),someone else i can't recall, and later ,chipmunk.kinda alternative /psych/grunge/schwag ,with keys, guitar, bass, drums, and some vocals, where i think everyone gets a turn or two in some cases.really introspective, real life situationists, who could jam a carrot or a hat box,if no actual instruments were readily available.a cover of "wipe out" is included, kinda velvet/sonic/butts sound goin' down,i'm sure joel could add some commentary in the comments box below.check that for more info!for now, just slip this on and relax!

P O S T # 1 0 0 ! ! ! CAT MACHINE-"The Mystery,The History,& Shit" (A Chronological Look At The Greatest Underground Band,EVER!!!)

finally,we made it to post # 100....over a month in the works,199 tracks clocking in at 9.9 hours of ridiculous goodness.the picture above shows all the tapes(minus 2 i found after the picture, bringing the total to 47 tapes) that i pulled this together from, and believe me there's much much more.for the downright greatest hits of all, grab "litterbox",a compilation found elsewhere on this blog.this here thing tho',being split into 10 zip files, runs thru every era.cat machine b.c.(before chipmunk),the chipmunk era,4-track era, live rehearsal era.it all started one day when a friend stopped by and happened to bring joel rizzo with him,we hit it off and even jammed a little on a few things i was working on at the time, and he said to come to his place and rock with him and his brother, tony.i was there soon and we took off on a year long spree of music making as cat machine.gramp's house where we usually recorded, became cat machine house to all who knew us.we had many guest stars,as anyone who showed up when we were recording was in cat machine.dave roth, katie ball, nathan adams, tall ray, chris nicholson, philbert ze chocolat clown, brian"snax"siders, sean sommers, dave antelope leaps, chuck connell, and more people joined in on various songs.more frequent collaborators were billy drake, shane carwile, vance burdge, who were all practically full fledged members, they played with us so much.we recorded direct into a boombox usually, but as you'll hear,we hit our stride on the 4-track sessions.when chipmunk joined,on the 19th tape,"a chip off the old monk",he brought with him to the group, great knowledge of guitar and music, and added a new dimension to our sound.between billy and chris ,we had a couple of the greatest guitarists i've ever known in my life.also imbibing substances and alcohol fueled our furor, hell,we were tripping on the "god's afterbirth"tape(i should post that in it's entirety,it' s a blast!).we would trade instrument and vocal duties after each song, even live on stage, which probably made people think we were totally nuts(we were).chris also wrote some of the greatest and funniest lyrics ever, but could sing anything and make you burst a blood vessel laughing, using many voices and personas.the first gig we ever played was the best anyone could hope for.(oh.yeah,gramps was also a frequent "guest",as he would bust in on the proceedings with a shocking regularity.once i walked in on gramps in his bedroom,he had a dirty blue fuzzy blanket laying on his bed, with about 6 cooked hot dogs and 6 buns ,which he was in the process of constructing.)we played for about 35 disgruntled youths in a juvenile detention center,i wish we had a recording of THAT! 2 kids liked us, the rest just sat there brooding,we felt like the cramps at napa state mental hospital,it was swell.then we got a show with myopia at visions,a nightclub.no recording of that either, probably for the best,as the owner said we were too loud and rattling every window in his establishment, and we weren't allowed back, but myopia played ther a few more times(cat machine pre-made flyers for a few more shows there, before we found out we were 86'd).we were supposed to do a benefit gig at norma jean's for some dead chick, but we fizzled out before that happened(me,chris, and joel played there as one fell swoop tho')we existed sept.90-sept.91,then me, joel ,and tony re-formed for a reunion tape(projek pimps)some of which is featured here,in mid 1992.we also re-grouped again with vance and did "the last newest one",to be found elsewhere on this blog along with our xmas release"poolside yuletide".cat machine was very important for many reasons.first off,we spawned over 100 bands and projects featuring one or more of us,before, during and long after cat machine.we heavily influenced many young kids just getting into the scene into starting their own bands.we were at the very beginning of a scene which died as we knew it by 1997.we were somewhat of a mysterious bunch, kinda secret society stuff,in our little cat machine world.the name cat machine came from the 1st tape, when we took a bunch of crazy mary's cats and put them in a pillowcase and recorded it.thus we invented a cat machine.it's the first track on "litterbox",if your'e interested(also now included here! track 00).we all wrote lyrics, mostly me ,i had notebooks full,i used to bring to every session, tony wrote some, chris wrote some, joel kicked in,and we all passed around a note book and took turns writing lines in some instances.we all sang,we all played any instrument or non-instrument that we could get our hands on.we experimented with many styles of music, blending them into the signature cat machine sound.at sessions usually someone would come up with a riff, then it was 1-2-3-go!,making for some crazy ,sometimes improv, songs.even this makes cat machine important, the name"sluggisha"came from a song(included here)called"let me be your soybean buddy"and the line,"eat meat, makes you sluggish-a",which was a thing we picked up from listening to the fall.the singer, mark e. smith, has a habit of adding "uh" to the end of each line."3 mark smiths-ah"(included here) is me ,tony ,and joel going off at the same time, spouting lines from books, mark smith stylee, just laugh ,dummy.anyway in conclusion, september 25th,2010 will mark the 20th anniversary of the band.i always hope for the big reunion gig,so guys if you're reading this, let's set something up,we could rule the world about now.but on that date i will post a comp. of the weirdest,strangest,mind-bendingly off the wall tracks we ever laid down, there are so many to choose from.i'll put up more before that, but until then try dissecting THIS! also in the zip files is a bunch of flyers, info on which tapes the songs came from,a list of guests and the tracks they appear on,and the original sluggisha logo, drawn by steve reed.there are many gems here, and everything we did pretty much rules,so you can't go wrong .oh and one more thing:PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS,WITH YOUR NAME ,E-MAIL,ANY INFO YOU WANT TO LEAVE,BUT PLEASE GIMME FEEDBACK ON THIS AND ALL POSTS!!THANKS-----G O D.click here : https://archive.org/download/POST100CatMachine-theMysterytheHistoryShita/100CatMachine.zip
