Eric Burdon: Survivor 1977

Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941) is an English singer-songwriter and actor. He was previously

the vocalist of rock band The Animals and funk band War. He is regarded as one of the British Invasion's most distinctive singers with his deep, powerful blues-rock voice. He is also known for his aggressive stage performances.

In 2008, he was ranked 57th in Rolling Stone's list The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Survivor is a solo album released in 1977. It was recorded at the Advision Studios in London, England. Burdon reunited with Zoot Money to write songs for this album. Also his old friend Alexis Korner helped recording.

George Bruno "Zoot" Money (born 17 July 1942 in Bournemouth, Hampshire - now Dorset) is an English vocalist, keyboardist and bandleader. He is best known for his playing of the Hammond organ and association with his Big Roll Band. Inspired by Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles, he was drawn to

rock and roll music and became a leading light in the vibrant music scene of Bournemouth and Soho during the 1960s. He took his stage name 'Zoot' from Zoot Sims after seeing him in concert. During 1968, Money moved to U.S.A. to join the lineup of Eric Burdon & the New Animals in time for their Every One Of Us album, and the group soon incorporated stretched-out, heavily-psychedelicised versions of Dantalian's Chariot favourites 'Madman Running Through The Fields' and 'Gemini' into their setlist.

Money has been associated with The Animals, Eric Burdon, Steve Marriott, Kevin Coyne, Kevin Ayers, Humble Pie, Alexis Korner, Snowy White, Mick Taylor, Spencer Davis, Vivian Stanshall, Geno Washington, Brian Friel, the Hard Travelers, Widowmaker, Georgie Fame and Alan Price. He is also known as a bit part and character actor.

Eric Burdon's Fire Dept: Last Drive 1980

Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941) is an English singer-songwriter and actor. He was previously

the vocalist of rock band The Animals and funk band War
. He is regarded as one of the British Invasion's most distinctive singers with his deep, powerful blues-rock voice. He is also known for his aggressive stage performances.

Eric Burdon has one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in rock and roll. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1994, and hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Voices of All Time, Burdon's music forged new territory while also topping the charts for over 5 decades.

Highly prolific, Burdon has released nearly 50 records in those 50 years, as front man of The Animals

and WAR and simply as Eric Burdon. Through the changing sounds and genres, what remains constant is his courage as an artist to explore new sounds, leading into new territory with his unrivaled and unique voice. Eric Burdon has shared the stage with legends such as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Witherspoon and Otis Redding, and recently cited by cutting edge musicians like Patti Smith and Iggy Pop in their personal top tens.

Eric began his musical journey as a young man growing up in Newcastle, England. Listening to his

idols, Ray Charles and Bo Diddley, Eric immersed himself in American blues and jazz. As front man and driving force of the British Invasion band The Animals, Burdon helped shape rock and roll's DNA, and Eric's imposing yet soulful vocals are the driving force of the iconic favorite "House of the Rising Sun".

A long string of hits followed, including "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and the Vietnam-era

anthem, "We Gotta Get Out of This Place." Pioneering the psychedelic San Francisco sound, Burdon's classics include "San Franciscan Nights" and "Monterey". As the lead singer of the Animals, Eric Burdon was one of the British Invasion's most distinctive vocalists, with a searingly powerful blues-rock voice. When the first lineup of the group fell apart in 1966, Burdon kept the Animals' name going with various players for a few years.

Usually billed as Eric Burdon & the Animals, the group was essentially Burdon's vehicle, which he

used to purvey a far more psychedelic and less R&B-oriented vision. Occasionally he came up with a good second-division psychedelic hit, like "Sky Pilot"; more often, the music was indulgent, dating it almost immediately. Burdon's real triumphs as a solo artist came at the beginning of the '70s, when he hooked up with a bunch of L.A. journeyman soul/funksters who became his backing band, War.

Recording three albums' worth of material in the year or two that they were together, the Burdon/War

records could ramble on interminably, and would have benefited from a lot of editing. But they contained some spacy funkadelia of real quality, especially their number three hit single "Spill the Wine," which was almost recorded as an afterthought in the midst of sessions dominated by exploratory jams. Eric Burdon & War were already big stars on record and stage when Burdon, for reasons unclear to almost everyone, quit the band in 1971.

Burdon continued through the years to perform with different iterations of the Animals, while also

founding and fronting the funk group War, one of the first multiracial bands, and topped the charts again with his groundbreaking hit single "Spill the Wine". In the following decades Burdon has become and accomplished painter and author, and he continues to record and tour as a solo artist. 2012 will see the release of his new album, "Til Your River Runs Dry."
In 2012, he experienced an unexpected comeback when Bruce Springsteen made him a cornerstone of his keynote speech at South by Southwest. Burdon joined Springsteen on-stage and was soon in demand.

Last Drive is the first and only studio album by Eric Burdon's Fire Dept., released in 1980.

Every song title from the album is also listed on the front cover. Also some lyrics are visible on it, "Outlaw motorcycle gangs have joined forces with the citizen drivers, look out for hot Chevey panel truck" (from "The Last Drive") and "Take my spirit someplace else" (from "The Last Poet").

The front cover was drawn by Eric Burdon. The band's logo, visible on the back cover, was drawn by Gerd Grzelak. The album was recorded at the "Tonstudio", Hiltpoltstein, West Germany (April 1980) and at "La Playa", Frejus, France (June 1980). The inner sleeve photographs were taken by Jürgen V. Gzarnowski.

BIRD ON THE BEACH LYRICS

Stood with my kid on the lonely windswept beach
The winter sun was on the horizon, and we were both out of reach
She ran ahead of me looking for the next surprise
Our souls were wet from the incoming tide
She stopped and looked at me Lord, with tears in her eyes
It's only a dead bird, and his soul has gone to the sky
He's free, not like you and me
He's free, not like you and me

I never ever thought, that you would be so out of reach
And the lonely times have been like poison, child
I wish I could practice, what I preach
Then I can release these feelings, that I've been holding deep inside
Been missing you so much baby, the only healer can be time
By then you will have forgotten the dead bird on the beach
But please, don't forget your father, child, Cause he's out of reach
Yeah, my dream is to be free, free, free, freedom for you and me
Yeah free, free, free, freedom for you and me

You'll hear my music in the wind
Hearbeat like the rolling tide
One thing, you can be sure of, my love
Wherever you go, I'll hold your love inside
And I take a look, don't cry
Even if he was livin' and you had him in your hands
You'd still have to open up and let him fly
That bird must be free!

She turned around and looked at me Lord, with tears in her eyes
It's only a dead bird, and his soul has gone to the sky
He's free, not like you and me
He's free, not like you and me

Freedom
Freedom for you and me
Freedom
Freedom
Free
Freedom...

The Eric Bardon Band : Sun Secrets + Stop ( 2 Albums )

Released without Eric Burdon's authorization, Sun Secrets is nothing for the singer to be ashamed of artistically. With approximately 24 minutes per side, Sun Secrets is a far cry from The Black Man's Burdon and the rhythms of the group War. As Mountain guitarist Leslie West would do a year after this when he formed the Leslie West Band, Burdon beats him to the punch with a self-titled group that rocks -- rocks harder than the Animals, rocks harder than War.

It's innovative reinvention, and quite pleasing, not only to hear the three-piece unit blitzing behind the singer as he reinterprets Animals classics like "When I Was Young," "It's My Life," or the Hendrix/Cream riff-laden version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," but on the instrumental title track as well. The tragedy of it all is that, according to the singer's biography, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Eric Burdon with J.Marshall Craig (Thunder's Mouth Press), Burdon did not want this material out. The tapes were signed to Capitol and released without his permission.

Produced by Jerry Goldstein, they are called "rehearsal tapes" by the singer and feature the original lineup of what he says in his book is "The first in a long series of Eric Burdon band(s)." Capitol released two different versions of this disc -- the full-length commercial LP, and a "Radio Programming Aid" which has edits of everything except for the 13-minute Burdon co-write "Letter From the Country Farm." It's disheartening to read the agony for the star during these sessions and the touring from this period in his life, but it's refreshing to hear in these grooves that under adverse conditions the star still comes out on top artistically.

The other Capitol release by the Eric Burdon Band, Stop, has been added to this collection and, according to his biography, "now appear together on one CD, Sun Secrets/Stop."

Review by Joe Viglione

Stop is a hard rock/funk album by the first incarnation of the Eric Burdon Band, whose line up consisted of Burdon, John Sterling, Kim Kesterson and Terry Ryan.

They formed in 1971, after Burdon left his previous band War to cut an album with Jimmy Witherspoon. They recorded the album ‘’Guilty’’ and then, without Witherspoon, the album Stop.
It was not released until July 1975. Also it featured no hit single, but had some American chart success, reaching both US and Canadian album charts.

Eric Burdon Sings The Songs Of The Animals

As the lead singer of the Animals, Eric Burdon was one of the British Invasion's most distinctive vocalists, with a searingly powerful blues-rock voice. When the first lineup of the group fell apart in 1966, Burdon kept the Animals' name going with various players for a few years. Usually billed as Eric Burdon and the Animals, the group was essentially Burdon's vehicle, whom he used to purvey a far more psychedelic and less R&B-oriented vision.

Burdon's real triumphs as a solo artist came at the beginning of the '70s .

As a solo artist , at the beginning of the '70s, he hooked up with a bunch of L.A. Journeyman soul/funksters who became his backing band," War " .
Recording three albums worth of material in the year or two that they were together, the Burdon/War records could ramble on interminably, and would have benefited from a lot of editing.

War defied expectations and became even bigger when left to their own devices.

Burdon wanted to act in the movie" Blowup " (1966). Director Michelangelo Antonioni wanted to use him as a musician in a club scene. Burdon turned the role down, because he had acted in movies before, where he sang songs.
He disbanded The Animals and went to California where he met Jim Morrison and came to the realisation that his real inspiration was acting.

Later, he turned down major roles in" Zabriskie Point " and Performance (both 1970).

In 1991 he had a cameo appearance in The Doors.

In 1998 he acted as himself in the Greek movie" My Brother and I ", followed by a bigger role in the German motion picture Snow on New Year's Eve (1999).

In 2007 he performed the traditional "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" in the drama festival film The Blue Hour and in a documentary about Joshua Tree

The Animals : The Complete Animals 1990

Formed in Newcastle upon Tyne during 1962 and 1963 when Burdon joined the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo, the original line-up comprised Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (organ and keyboards), Hilton Valentine (electric), John Steel (drums), and Bryan "Chas" Chandler (bass).

In June 1964 by the transatlantic number one hit "House of the Rising Sun". Burdon's howling vocals and the dramatic arrangement created arguably the first folk rock hit.

In November 1964, the group was poised to make their American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show and began a short residency performing everyday in theatres across New York City.
By May 1965 the group was starting to feel internal pressures. Price left due to personal and musical differences as well as fear of flying on tour; he went on to a successful career as a solo artist and with the Alan Price Set. Mick Gallagher filled in for him on keyboards for a short time until Dave Rowberry replaced him and was on hand for the hit song "We Gotta Get out of This Place" and "It's My Life".

A group with Burdon, Jenkins, and new sidemen John Weider (guitar/violin/bass), Vic Briggs (guitar/piano), and Danny McCulloch (bass) were formed under the name Eric Burdon and the Animals (or sometimes Eric Burdon and the New Animals) in December 1966 and changed direction. The hard driving blues was transformed into Burdon's version of psychedelia as the former heavy drinking Geordie (who later said he could never get used to Newcastle "where the rain comes at you sideways") relocated to California and became a spokesman for the Love Generation.

Some of this group's hits included "San Franciscan Nights", "Monterey" (a tribute to the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival), and "Sky Pilot". Their sound was much heavier than the original group.

By February 1969 these Animals had dissolved and the singles "Ring of Fire" and "River Deep Mountain High" were internationally released.

On 12 December 1982, Burdon performed together with Alan Price and a complete line-up. They reunited again in 1983 for the album Ark and a world tour

Chas Chandler died in 1996, putting an end to the full original line-up.

They can't take away our music  Lyrics

Oh, theres one thing that I'm sure,
Its so proud and its so pure.
And it comes from deep within,
Its got no hair its got no skin.
As we travel far and near,
We bring the world for you to hear.
And the message that we bring,
Is the light in the words we sing.
And no matter how bad you feel,
We got something, they cant steal.
No they cant, no they cant, no they cant,
Take away our music, no.
No they cant, no they cant, no they cant,
Take away our music.
In the ghetto, it gets cold,
But we got something to warm our souls.
Like the blanket of our faith,
Keeps us covered when we shake.
Though they take my brothers life,
And deny his given rights.
Yes, the message will be heard,
As the four winds spread the word.
And our spirit, they cant break,
Cause we got power to communicate, yea.
No they cant, no they cant, no they cant,
Take away our music, Lord.
No they cant, no they cant,
I say, they cant take our music, music, little baby (unintelligible)
But his message is my book, my book, is your book, is everybodys book. Come on.
Music is fine, music is alright, alright with me, yea.
Come on, come on, sing it mom, sing it pop, sing it brother, sing it sister.
Everybody, come on. Get up on your feet, now, and stomp your feet, clap your hands, come on. Oh.
Sing it to your man, sing it to your woman, sing it to your baby, sing it to the sky,
Sing to ev, sing it to the ground, sing it to the earth, my, my, my, my, come on.
They cant take it away, they cant take it away. Oooo. Come on, come on, come on.
