Acid Rooster: Studio Discography 2019 - 2024

Acid Rooster is an Instrumental psychedelic/kraut/ space rock from Leipzig, Germany and their heir music is solid gold from start to finish. (...) Every time you think they’ve taken a break, given

you a bit of a breather, a slow track to let you regain your senses, you quickly realise that no, the drop in tempo is purely there so they can wind it up, and up, and up again, until we are once more in orbit.
Though Acid Rooster have flown their freak flag high for many moons, the band only released their impressive S/T debut very recently.

And not to exaggerate — Acid Rooster is one of the best contemporary psych bands around, (...). Mainlining the spirit of Agitation Free, Neu! or any of the well known German psych and krautrock

pioneers, Acid Rooster’s partially-written and part-improv take on free-thinking psych is equal parts monolithic and hypnotic, executed with genuine conviction – it’s like being catapulted into orbit by wave after cosmic wave in a maelstrom of psychedelic flavors, whether it’s blistering guitar pyrotechnics or the downtempo check-ins with your consciousness. It’s Acid Rooster’s strength to relentlessly take you well beyond the astral planes.

Acid Rooster from Leipzig blast off into space like a textbook sonic joyride straight out of Alan

Freeman’s The Crack in the Cosmic Egg. With a sound evoking the spirit of German kraut and psych rock pioneers, the instrumental tracks on their partially written and improvised albums often oscillate between slow-burning, spaced out jams and mind-bending climaxes that have earned them a stellar reputation for their captivating live shows.

Demonstrating a striking level of instrumental tightness and intuitive improvisation, it is perhaps not

surprising to learn that the three childhood friends Sebastian Väth (guitar), Max Leicht (bass, synthesizer) and Steffen Schmidt (drums, percussion) share a long history of rehearsing and jamming in their native hometown in southern germany.

Praised by critics for the soaring cosmic drone-riffs and monolithic rhythm section on their self-titled

debut "Acid Rooster" (2019), the band soon got invited to a string of shows and appearances at renown festivals such as LeGuessWho and Fusion Festival. They shared the stage with bands such as Kikagaku Moyo, Acid Mothers Temple, Föllakzoid or Bitchin Bajas. Their second EP "Irrlichter" (2021) was followed by several tours through europe and the UK, the release of the live album "Ad Astra" (2022) and their brand new full lenght studio album "Flowers & and Dead Souls" (2023).

With ‘Hall Of Mirrors’ Acid Rooster (2024) presents a work made up of four individual parts of

immersive and psychedelic music. Acid Rooster’s ever-evolving template is tapping into the same transcendental minimalism but delivered with a new-found urgency as they add additional layers to their intoxicating after-midnight grooves.

The magic begins as the music unfolds, driven by the taut, propulsive rhythm whilst melodic bass lines

propel the music in a perpetual forward motion, guitars flicker and cascade from angular and razor-sharp to shimmering and forlorn, peppered by the ambient whirr of synths that oscillate subtly in the background throughout.

01. ACID ROOSTER - ACID ROOSTER 2019

Excellent album. Very well done, psychedelic space-rock, without being over-indulgently proggy or solo driven. Liquid lead guitar solos, space rock synth, and groovy rhythm chart a course into

outerspace.
The songs flow freely exploring drone, improvisation, psychedelic experimental rock, classic kraut rock and space rock. Acid Rooster is digging deep into the well of far-out psychedelic rock and has created their own dimension of this mind-expanding vibrational brew. The way the band comes together can only happen when people are listening and following their ear. The structured elements of the sound remove any sense of hesitancy or misdirection.

02. ACID ROOSTER - FLOWERS AND DEAD SOULS 2022

The nights are drawing in and the stars shine ever bright in the autumnal skies, amidst the gathering gloom and pale light that catches leaves slowly making their way to the ground there is a sound … a big heavy psychedelic sound … this can only mean one thing: a new album from Germany’s Acid Rooster has dropped and is here to light our way through dark evenings. A warm synth

sound and chiming guitars introduce “Flowers And Dead Souls”. Its rolling rhythm courtesy of Steffen Schmidt on the drums means the track almost cruises into being like a giant craft entering the Earth’s atmosphere after a long trawl through hyperspace. Echoed guitar from Sebastian Vath calls out across the solar system, as if trying to send a message to its home world. Max Leicht’s bass and synthesizer flesh out the sound, helping it springboard beyond Kuiper Belt objects to the farthest reaches of our solar system. Another stunning release from Acid Rooster that takes you on an aural journey; not just outward in to the cosmic night, but inward to your own self realisation.

03. ACID ROOSTER - HALL OF MIRRORS 2024

With ‘Hall Of Mirrors’ Acid Rooster presents a work made up of four individual parts of immersive and psychedelic music. “Hall Of Mirrors” contains just 4 tracks, equally divided into the 2 sides of the vinyl LP album and is based on a daemonic mutated lost Pink Floyd (from their mid-80s period) riff, shimmering wah-wah guitar sounds, some groovy basslines, and rather powerful drumming

under a huge krauty prism, creating a supersonic Space Rock sounding capable enough to launch the Spaceship into the… future!  Is spacey, futuristic, and deeply electronically flavored, covered by a huge Krauty monotone cloak, this is trippy Space Rock with dreamy and floating atmos and a mysterious kind-of Psych aura all over, but slowly and progressively the Spacey soundscape is filled with pure ACID while the Spaceship males a stop somewhere in the year 2525 before safely landing into its initial state (of mind)!

Galaxy: Day Without The Sun 1976

Rare original 1976 U.S. private press progressive rock album in still sealed condition on Sky Queen

records out of Florida. This heavy progressive rock album is an important item among collectors. Originally recorded in Florida in 1976 and unearthed by the Italian Akarma label, this is a wonderful mixture of space and psychedelic rock, West Coast guitar solos and Gong-like female vocals which combine superbly to richochet around your brain. The 14 minute title track is awesome....

Galaxy was a space rock band that played their largest performances in Jacksonville, Florida. The first was in 1975 at the 4th of July street concert sponsored by the Jacksonville Beach chamber of

commerce. Galaxy was the only band performing that night, playing to a crowd the newspapers said was over 30 thousand strong. Galaxy performed 42 of their original rock songs that they had learned after being together only 3 months. They performed at the same venue the following year. Galaxy won WAPE radio's first "battle-of-the-bands" in 1976, winning the prize of a recording contract with Bang Records in Atlanta, Ga. that turned out only to be a midnight recording session.

Their winning year brought them to the concert stages to large audiences that included : Annhauser Busch Natural Light Beer debuton Jax. Beach to a crowd of over 250 thousand rock fans as thefinal

feature act following a country rock band called "Road Dust" and during Galaxy's concert Leif Garrette made a guest appearance. Galaxy also performed to a Daytona Beach crowd of more that 20 thousand fans at the city's famous band shell on the beach. They recorded only one album called Day Without The Sun which is still available to on line collectors and Space Rock enthusiasts.

When people describe this record with terms like "heavy psych," "progressive," and "space rock," they must be referring to the 15 minute title track, because otherwise this is distinctly mid-'70s trendy: funky

and danceable, vaguely hard guitars, lots of synths, radio friendly. It's more Stevie Wonder or Apostrophe-era Zappa than it is Hawkwind, let's say. But then the last track does make one think of an extended Hawkwind jam, and with someone who sounds like a dead ringer for Dagmar Krause on vocals, so, yeah. Nice indeed. Skip to side B if you're here for the psych.

Their style is an interesting mix of hard rock, space rock and progressive rock and I find the quality of the songwriting to be very solid. The female lead vocalist sounds very good and the

instrumental work is pretty strong as well.
The A-side of the record includes shorter tracks which are all entertaining. The opening song "Space Mountain" is probably the highlight of the first side but the other tracks do their job very well too. The second side has one short song and one massive 14 minutes long closing track. "Sky Queen" is a nice one but the title track "Day Without the Sun" is designed as the climax of this LP and it does just that. It's maybe the ultimate highlight of this strong disc.

Galaxy now has a new Space Rock CD called Find Another World and an "author's edition reissue CD

of their first LP Day Without The Sun. The first reissue CD of Day w/o the Sun was produced and distributed by Akarma/Comet Records in Italy in 1999. Galaxy's own record label SKY QUEEN RECORDS has always been unsigned by any major label up to the present.

Hawkwind: This Is Your Captain Speaking (11CD Box Set) 2015

Formed in 1969, Hawkwind are a prolific and pioneering space-rock group from the UK. Within weeks

of their formation, the band had made a name for themselves on the free festival circuit and would perform live without fee wherever they were able. By the time of their 1971 album 'X In Search Of Space', Hawkwind were infamous for their science fiction themed music and theatrical concerts, the latter renowned as exhibitions of pulsing electronics, dazzling light shows, LSD consumption and (from 1971-75) a nude dancer in the form of Stacia Blake .

Despite a near-constant revolving door of members, Founder member Dave Brock has been the sole

mainstay and the core of the band since its inception and has steered the band from its psychedelic rock roots into flirtations with heavy metal, new wave, ambient and techno. Notable contributors have included "accidental" bassist Lemmy (who would go on to greater fame with Motörhead), Cream's Ginger Baker and science fiction writer Michael Moorcock.

Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable

musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton.
However, the band are most closely associated with their founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, who is the only remaining original member.

The seeds of the group were planted when guitarist/singer Dave Brock and guitarist Mick Slattery of the group Famous Cure, which was playing a gig in Holland in 1969, met

saxman/flutist/singer Nik Turner, a member of Mobile Freakout, on the same tour. Once back in England, Brock, Slattery, and Turner hooked up again and, adding John Harrison on bass, Terry Ollis on drums, and DikMik Davies on electronic keyboards, called themselves Group X, later changed to Hawkwind Zoo, and finally to Hawkwind.
They secured a contract with United Artists/Liberty Records in England. Before the group recorded, however, Huw Lloyd Langton replaced Mick Slattery on guitar.

Hawkwind are best known for the song "Silver Machine", which became a number-three UK hit

single in 1972, but they scored further hit singles with "Urban Guerrilla" (another Top 40 hit) and "Shot Down in the Night".
The band had a run of twenty-two of their albums charting in the UK from 1971 to 1993. Hawkwind have retained a loyal following and enjoyed periodic surges of popularity, in the '80s with the Moorcock-inspired concept album The Chronicle of the Black Sword and in the '90s with their embrace of rave culture and electronica on albums like Space Bandits.

The group's early sound, characterized by their singles up through that point, was essentially hard rock

with progressive trappings. They slotted in perfectly with the collegiate and drug audiences, putting on the kind of show that acts like King Crimson and ELP were known for, but with more of a pure rock & roll base (not surprising, considering Lemmy's background). Their commercial breakthrough took place when a version of the hard-driving rocker "Silver Machine," sung by Lemmy, made it to number three on the British charts in August 1972.

They were unable to maintain this unexpected flash of mass success, particularly when their follow-up

single, "Urban Guerrilla," a surprisingly melodic rocker with lots of crunchy guitar at the core of multiple layers of metallic sound.

The band's '70s recordings were starting to show up in profusion, in competition with their then-current work. Ironically, it was in 1985, just as Hawkwind were starting to compete with their own early

history, that they released their most ambitious record yet, The Chronicle of the Black Sword. They were left as a trio after a falling out among the bandmembers at the end of their 1992 American tour, and apart from periodic reissues of Hawkwind's classic material, the surviving group achieved a serious following on the underground, drug-driven dance/rave scene in England, ironically returning to a modern version of the band's roots.

The 2000 reunion event Hawkestra saw the coming together of multiple eras of Hawkwind personnel

and begat Space Ritual, a spin-off group of former members. Space Ritual competed with Brock's ongoing versions of Hawkwind, who continued to release both new and archival material throughout the decade. A contract with Eastworld Records in 2010 seemed to renew Hawkwind's commitment to new material, as they entered another prolific streak that included the 2016 concept album The Machine Stops and its 2017 sequel, Into the Woods.

For 2018's Road to Utopia, Hawkwind teamed up with composer and conductor Mike Batt to reimagine

songs from their catalog with new orchestral arrangements. The following year, the band issued an album of new material, All Aboard the Skylark, which included a second disc of acoustic versions of classic Hawkwind songs, titled Acoustic Daze. Sax and flute player Nik Turner died on November 10, 2022, at the age of 82.
