A historical band, with a presence in the field and a long discography, from the distant 1987 until today!
Greece's biggest rock and roll band back on the streets. In their career they have participated as support in many concerts, opening for big names such as: Godfathers, Dr Feelgood, Stranglers Chumbawamba, Robert Gordon and Chris Spedding, Crazy Cavan.
                                                                                  

Rockabilly from Thessaloniki, brigantine, perfecto, combed wool, alcohol and always ready to party and dance. Alexandros Perros with the Lone Stars from 1988 until today take us musically to another

musical era that they have experienced. Alexandros, for those who remember the daily lunchtime music show Jammin of ERT3, for a long time he maintained the column presenting the new record releases and is the owner of the Flip Side bar in Thessaloniki, which you will find at Proxenou Koromilas 11. Another memory of mine and musically the my first acquaintance with domestic rock n roll, rockabilly, garage rock n roll was the amazing music collection of POP and ROCK which consisted of 2 CDs with Greek rockabilly, psychobilly, rock n roll bands, from Greek gems that if you were not from some big city, you would probably never know them.
                                                                     

They have played in: France, Cyprus, Skopje with great success. They have done many live shows all

over Greece sponsored by Southern Comfort. They have also participated in many festivals such as River Party and Nestorio in Kastoria. The British Nervous Records released in two successive collections the tracks alcohol and stars are bright respectively. While the Swedish SunJay Records released alcohol.
                                                                               

And yet, the traveler of sounds and the aristocrat of the stage is more fashionable than ever, where

nostalgia meets its most modern version, that of the refined but rawly authentic, that of the successful elitist, that behind a new cd reveals the history of the secular life of Thessaloniki that brings us back to times of wild parties, stages burning with live and radio shows that made history with unsurpassed humor. But above all, they bring back an innocent era with so much soul and so much sincerity... this sincerity that is missing everywhere!

Shockabilly: Vietnam 1984 + Heaven 1985

Shockabilly was an underground avant-garde band from NYC that first formed in 1982. The band

included Eugene Chadbourne on guitar and vocals, Mark Kramer on bass guitar and organ, and David Licht on drums. Shockabilly released a number of albums during their brief existence (1982–1985); most were re-released. The music itself is mostly avant-garde reworkings of rockabilly and rock and roll standards.
                            

Shockabilly was formed out of the ashes of Eugene Chadbourne's quintet The Chadbournes in 1982, when John Zorn and the late Tom Cora departed and left a trio in their wake. Eugene Chadbourne, Kramer and David Licht carried on as the newly named Shockabilly.
                                                    

Shockabilly produced music that sounded like an unholy combination of the Electric Prunes and

Karlheinz Stockhausen. They specialized in outrageous cover versions - ‘Psychotic Reaction’, ‘19th Nervous Breakdown’, ‘Day Tripper’, ‘Purple Haze’ - and also more obscure items by John Lee Hooker, John Fogerty and Syd Barrett.
                                         

When the song seems to be familiar, it gives the listener a thread on which to hang the power trio-chaos

in which they liked to indulge. Chadbourne’s background was in rock, blues, late 60s free jazz and free improvisation - he put it all into Shockabilly with an energy and spleen that gained a response from the more adventurous post-punk audiences.
                                          

After they folded in 1985 Chadbourne, an inspired songwriter, pursued a solo career while Kramer, as well as playing in B.A.L.L. and Bongwater, set up Shimmy-Disc, one of the great radical rock labels of the 80s and 90s.]
                                                      

Vietnam is a relatively grand affair, with a huge tour-diary poster and material by Arthur Lee, John

Fogerty, John Lee Hooker and the Beatles.  
Heaven takes the terrible trio further into the realms of the truly weird.

Link Wray and The Ray Men : Early Recordings 2006

Fred Lincoln "Link" Wray, Jr. (May 2, 1929 – November 5, 2005) was an American rock and roll guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist who became popular in the late 1950s.

Building on the distorted electric guitar sound of early records, his 1958 instrumental hit "Rumble" by Link Wray & His Ray Men popularized "the power chord, the major modus operandi of modern rock guitarists,"facilitating the emergence of "punk and heavy rock". Rolling Stone placed Wray at No. 45 of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. In 2013 and 2017 he was a nominee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Though he began in country music, his musical style went on to consist primarily of rock and roll, rockabilly, and instrumental rock.

Three songs he performed were named for indigenous peoples: "Shawnee," "Apache," and "Comanche." "Apache" was an instrumental composed by Jerry Lordan; it was originally a hit in the United Kingdom for The Shadows in 1960 and reached #2 on the Billboard charts in the U.S. on April 3, 1961 by Danish guitarist Jorgen Ingmann. Wray recorded a cover version 30 years later, when it was also associated with The Ventures and the Incredible Bongo Band.

In 1958, Wray's first hit, "Rumble," was banned in New York and Boston for fear it would incite teenage gang violence. The record was first released on Cadence Records (catalog number 1347) as by "Link Wray & His Ray Men." Before, during, and after his stints with major labels Epic and Swan, Wray released 45s under many names. Tiring of the corporate music machine, he began recording albums using a three-track studio he converted from an outbuilding on his brother's property that his father used to raise chickens.

Jack Rose cited Wray as an influence, as did Iggy Pop and Neil Young. Jimmy Page says that Link Wray had a "real rebel attitude" and credits him in It Might Get Loud as a major influence in his early career. According to Rolling Stone, Pete Townshend of The Who once said, "If it hadn't been for Link Wray and 'Rumble,' I never would have picked up a guitar." "The only people I ever really looked up to were Link Wray and Iggy Pop," said Mark E. Smith of The Fall. "Guys like…Link Wray…are very special to me."

Drawn from the one LP and the dozen or so singles Link Wray recorded for Swan Records between 1963 and 1966, Early Recordings, first released in this configuration by Chiswick Records in 1978, remains the best single-disc introduction to this powerful guitar player, even though, at 32 minutes in length, it falls on the brief side. No matter.

It burns like a runaway gas fire, from the ragged, surging "Batman Theme" that opens things clear through to the remake of his signature "Rumble" that closes up the sequence. This is powerful, spooky, and haunting stuff. Wray is said to have invented the power chord and to have traced the template for grunge guitar way back in the mid-'50s, but what he really is, more than anything, is the precedent for players like Jimi Hendrix, a guitarist who wanted to wring every last blast and rattle out of his amp by any means possible.

The lone vocal track, a cover of Willie Dixon's "Hidden Charms" (by way of Howlin' Wolf), is a slice of sneering garage rock that sounds like metal fingernails on an electric chalk board for two minutes and forty five seconds. Powerful stuff, and absolutely essential.

The Bullets : the Story So Far 2015

The Bullets were formed in the eastern side of Thessaloniki in 1988. It was a time when rockabilly was very popular all over Europe. Although the rockabilly revival movement, which started in the 70s, lasted until the late 90s, the Bullets have managed to be active up until today. During all these years the band has performed live countless times, creating wild and memorable moments for their fans.

The Bullets' music style is without any doubt… rock'n'roll. Obviously their major influences are the trash/desperate rockabilly of the 50s and the primitive surf sounds of the 60s. Other influences include doo-wop, garage and british teddy boy rock. Their philosophy is based on having fun, love for life and on being optimistic. Certainly these are the reasons why they will keep on being together for a very long time!

 

Today Bullet Cost is the only founding member of the band that is still part of its line up. Shockin' Steve (vocals, guitar) joined the Bullets in 1992. After a Johnny Carroll gig the same year at Mylos Club in Thessaloniki, the band was rejuvenated! In 1999 Tommy (bass), a founding member, left the group. Captain-K (Frantic Five), who was already an unofficial member, took his place, temporarily at first, but he was to stay for the next five years. In 2004 Wrongman (De Sades) replaced Captain K. In 2009 Vasilis Karkavitsas took Wrongman's place, who was the band's sound engineer until then. During the same year Haris Granis (guitar,b.vocals) was also added to the line up, founding member of the BMW Rockers 57 and the Johnny Carbonaras.

The band's first release was the 7inch surf-a-billy single “Fuzzbitten” which came out in the spring of 2003 and was released by On Stage Records with 3 songs. In the following years Bullets' songs were included in the Compilations “Enjoy The Greeks” 1 & 2 (3 in total, volume two issued by Pop+Rock magazine) and in the compilations “White Boppin' Tower” 1 & 2 (On Stage Records). In 2005 the compilation “Their Hottest Tunes 1997-2005”, which featured almost all the group's recordings up to that time, was released. In 2007, the debut album “Final Race” came out, which featured guest appearances by some of the greatest artists in the Greek rock'n'roll scene and truly lived up to the Bullets' history and quality as a band. It's worth mentioning that the album's title song has been included in the compilation of May 2008 issue of the famous German rock'n'roll magazine, “Dynamite”.

The Blue Jeans are definitely the most well known rockabilly band that ever came out of Greece.
The Blue Jeans were formed back in 1984 by Alex Berekos initially as a four piece band playing mostly covers.. After two years of constant gigging they are offered their first deal to release an E.P. for the "Wipe Out" recording label that is released in 1986. The E.P. features two original songs plus a cover of the instrumental surf tune Wipe Out.
Today this release is considered a collector's item. The same year they play in Thessaloniki for the first time in a festival which is headlined by the mighty SLEEPY LABEEF.
1990 seems to be a crucial year for the band with lots of changes both in their line up and their sound in general with the addition of a upright bass player and an obvious direction to more authentic Rockabilly music but always played with their own style. Gigs are always well received by their increasing fans and prove them soon to be one of the hottest live bands in Greece.
In 1991 Angelos Michalopoulos (Saxophone) joins the band and they are picked up to open the gig for THE CRAMPS and so they did with THE RAMONES shows in Athens, while later on
they share the bill with THE BIG TOWN PLAYBOYS and THE BLUES BAND.

1992 is another busy year with playing live always on their agenda. RUDY "TUTTI" GRAYZELL is invited by THE BLUE JEANS to come over and play with them as a backing band a show in Athens which turned out to be a huge success. Another SUN RECORDS legend hits the ground and appear with THE BLUE JEANS as his backing band and that is the legendary rockabilly hero JOHNNY CARROLL who plays two shows in Athens and Thessaloniki (probably one of his last shows in Europe). Finally the band releases their first full album by the title HARD TIMES. One of the album's songs is featured on UK's NERVOUS records compilation "Streets of fear" released in 1994.

Υπήρχε μία περίοδος που αυτό το lp, μαζί με το "Elf" των Dirty Saints ακουγόταν σχεδόν σε καθημερινή βάση από τα ηχεία μου.10 τραγούδια, κάτι λιγότερο από 37 λεπτά και μια αίσθηση μεταφοράς από την εποχή του σε μια άλλη εποχή χρόνια πίσω...
Ένα ταξίδι στην δεκαετία του'50 σε 'κείνα τα απίθανα πάρτι της εποχής. Ιδρωμένο rockabilly, pure rock'n'roll, μουσική για να σηκωθείς και να κουνήσεις τους γοφούς σου, κάτι σαν Elvis ένα πράγμα. Τον λάτρεψα τότε, τούς γούσταρα ήδη από το "Wipe Out EP" και τα τραγούδια του μου χάρισαν απίστευτες στιγμές κεφιού και ανεμελιάς. Πείτε ότι για αυτό είναι φτιαγμένος αυτός ο δίσκος. Για διασκέδαση.
Αφιερωμένος στον φίλο μου τον Κωνσταντίνο - blues at heart - που αποφάσισε ότι ήρθε η ώρα να πληρώσει το χρέος του στην μαμά πατρίδα. Κωνσταντίνε, καλή θητεία.
