Includes rare Live radio Birdman track and Unreleased tracks by the Hitmen, Lipstick Killers, 31st, Reals, Survivors, Slaughterhouse 5, Shy Omposters, The End & ME262 - plus bonus tracks from 1974 by TV Jones and Kid Galahad & The Eternals (aka The Saints)!

RADIO BIRDMAN

"Do The Pop! Redux Part One" is a double CD compilation released in December 2007 by the Australian
THE LIPSTICK KILLERS

label Shock Records under their Savage Beat! imprint. It serves as the first installment of an expanded trilogy documenting the history and evolution of the Australian punk, post-punk, and garage rock scene.

THE SCIENTISTS

This release is a follow-up to the highly successful 2002 compilation, "Do The Pop! The Australian
THE HITMEN

Garage-Rock Sound 1976-1987. While the original 2002 version featured 50 tracks, the Redux series was designed to provide a much more extensive archive, aiming for roughly 150 tracks spread across three volumes. This first part focuses heavily on the early, raw years of the scene, covering the period from 1976 to 1981.

THE SUNNYBOYS

The compilation features rare recordings, unreleased tracks, and iconic anthems of the Australian underground. It maps out the musical geography from the birth of punk in Brisbane and Sydney to its evolution into power-pop.
Some of the most notable acts and tracks included are:
01. The Saints: Features the iconic "This Perfect Day", alongside a rare, primitive 1974 rehearsal version
THE SAINTS

of "(\I'm) Stranded" back when the band was still called Kid Galahad & The Eternals.
02. Radio Birdman: The pioneers of Australian garage punk, along with tracks from key spin-off groups (splinter bands) like The Visitors, The Hitmen, and New Race.
03. TV Jones: A pre-Birdman outfit featuring Deniz Tek, providing historical context to the roots of the scene.
04. The 31st & The End
: Brisbane bands featuring members who would later go on to form the acclaimed Died Pretty.
05. Other Notable Artists: Includes tracks by the Sunnyboys, The Flaming Hands, ME262, and various other contemporaries of the punk era.

THE END

Collector's Value: The release comes with a highly detailed, informative booklet (sleevenotes) filled with
THE 31ST

rare photos, making it a valuable historical archive for collectors.
Critical Response: Music critics (such as in Record Collector and The Guardian) praised its immense historical value in mapping out a geographically isolated scene. However, some noted that because it targets the very early years, it leans heavily into raw, lo-fi punk, making it more appealing to die-hard fans than casual listeners.

The Gits: Discography 1992 - 1994 (2 Albums)

While the Gits were a band who made a strong impression with their music during their all too brief run, it was how the group suddenly ended that would come to dominate their story. Playing a unique and

passionate fusion of first-era punk, hard rock, and streetwise blues, the Gits had a sound that set them apart from their peers in Seattle in the late '80s and early '90s, when the city was hip deep in the grunge explosion. The Gits also had a fearless and charismatic frontwoman in lead singer Mia Zapata, but just as the group seemed poised to move up to the next level of popular acceptance, the potential of both the Gits and Zapata were snuffed out when she was raped and murdered in the summer of 1993.

She was not the ending dwarfing the beginning and the middle. She was an artist full of sparks, wisdom; the usual mundane and spectacular damage that the great ones turn into exquisite noise and poetry, and the kind of voice and presence you might encounter once or twice in your life, if

you’re very lucky. Mia Zapata was the greatest rock singer of her time. Mia Zapata (1965 – 1993), the vocalist and front person for The Gits (1986 – 1993), was not the type of voice one usually associates with a punk rock band. She had the sizzle, sass, shriek, grace, rasp, and fury of a classic blues shouter (what if Janis Joplin had fronted Fugazi, we must ask?).
Although there was a purity, an accuracy to her voice, she could point it at the stars and scoop cigarette butts out of the venue floor, all at the same time; it sounded like a voice on fire, it sounded desperate and angry and pleading and commanding, all at the same time.

The Gits were formed at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in mid-1986, grabbing and swapping

pieces of art, thrash, noise, punk rock, classic rock, and all the sorts of magical silly and bookish jingle bells that an old-school liberal arts education handed you; for the next few years they worked on turning it all into something tough, sensitive, both brutal and kind. Andy, Matt, Mia, and Steve moved to Seattle in middish 1989, landing in a house on Capitol Hill.

The band's first official release was the single "Precious Blood", released in 1990 by the local Big Flaming Ego Records. This was quickly followed up by two more releases, "Second Skin" on Broken Rekids

(1991) and "Spear & Magic Helmet" on Empty Records (1991), as well as the Bobbing For Pavement compilation (Rathouse/Broken Rekids, 1991). In 1992 the band recorded and released their debut album, Frenching the Bully. In the spring of 1993, former music journalist and musician Tim Sommer had planned to sign the Gits to Atlantic Records, where he was working in the A&R department. Sommer said he had made a deal to sign the Gits to Atlantic four days before Zapata's death.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on July 7, 1993, Zapata left the Comet Tavern, a dive bar in Capitol Hill that was a popular hangout for the Seattle music community. Her body was discovered at 3:20 a.m. near the intersection of 24th Avenue South and South Washington Street. Zapata had been beaten, raped,

and strangled, and it is believed she encountered her attacker shortly after 2:15 a.m.
Her body was not initially identified as she had no identification on her when she was found. An episode of Forensic Files revealed that she was identified after the medical examiner, who was a fan of the Gits and had been to their concerts, recognized her. According to the medical examiner, if she had not been strangled, she would have died from the internal injuries suffered from the beating. According to court documents, an autopsy found evidence of a struggle in which Zapata suffered blunt impact to her abdomen and a lacerated liver.

Frenching the Bully is the debut studio album by Seattle punk rock band the Gits. It was originally

released as a 12-track album on C/Z Records in 1992 and was later reissued in 2003 with bonus tracks and different cover art on the Broken Rekids label. It was reissued again in 2025 by Sub Pop. The River Cities' Reader called it "A stunning document of the talent ... [of] singer Mia Zapata ... She sings with such conviction, ferocity, and expressiveness that the lyrics become irrelevant.

02.  ENTER: THE CONQUERING CHICKEN 1994

Enter: The Conquering Chicken is the Gits' second full-length album, recorded in 1993 and released posthumously in 1994 on C/Z Records. Lead singer and songwriter Mia Zapata was raped and strangled to

death in July 1993 during production of the record. The remainder of the band completed the album with what they had finished so far, and disbanded shortly thereafter. Enter: The Conquering Chicken shows Mia Zapata pushing the blues influences that informed her vocal style to the forefront more directly than on Frenching the Bully, with songs like "A Change Is Gonna Come" (a recontextualized cover of soul singer Sam Cooke's original) and "Precious Blood."

Penetration: Moving Targets 1978 + Coming Up For Air 1979

Penetration is a punk rock band from County Durham, England formed in 1976. They re-formed in 2001 with several new members. Their debut single, "Don't Dictate", is now acknowledged as a classic punk rock single and their debut album, Moving Targets (1978), is still widely admired. The

band's lineup was lead singer Pauline Murray, Robert Blamire (bass), Gary Smallman (drums) and Gary Chaplin (guitar). Chaplin left in March 1978 being replaced with Neale Floyd, with second guitarist Fred Purser (later of NWOBHM act Tygers of Pan Tang) joining in July. The band dissolved in late 1979. They reformed in 2001 with original members Murray, Blamire and Smallman, and Steve Wallace and Paul Harvey drafted in as new guitarists. Pauline Murray was a force to be reckoned with. Easily one of the best singers to come out of English punk rock.

After the release of their second single, Penetration recorded the first of two sessions for John Peel

at BBC Radio 1 in July 1978.
Later that year, the band released their debut album. Moving Targets was number 6 in the Sounds Critics' albums of the year; and it made number 13 in the NME critics' chart. In 1979, they toured Europe, the US and Britain but the grueling schedule began to take its toll.  The second album, was the final nail in the coffin of the original band. After the band split in October an official bootleg album called Race Against Time was released, which was a collection of early demos and live tracks.

In 1980, Pauline Murray collaborated with The Invisible Girls, which also included Robert Blamire,

as well as other Manchester musicians such as Vini Reilly, guitarist in The Durutti Column, and Steve Hopkins. John Maher from Buzzcocks drummed for the band.
In 2015, Penetration announced the release of a new album called Resolution in October. The current line-up of the band is Pauline Murray, Robert Blamire, John Maher (ex-Buzzcocks), Paul Harvey and Steve Wallace.

PENETRATION - MOVING TARGETS 1978

It took me a while to establish that this LP DOES glow in the dark - around 40 years to be exact! The

instructions, included in the Notes are: "This record, after a 3 second exposure to a bright light, will glow for an hour in the dark”. I tried holding over a warm lamp. And you know what? It works!

PENETRATION - COMING UP FOR AIR 1979

Back in the heady and incredible days of the late seventies we were literally saturated with some truly

great bands, it was a golden age of new-wave, and 1979 was the best year of the era. At the time I would have posted Penetration as 'best of the rest'. And I am very pleased to say that this album has more than survived the test of time. 'Coming Up For Air' is yet another a great album from 1979.
